Guest Reviews
- Helen (9/5): Lovely relaxing stay. - There was a lovely atmosphere. The staff, particularly Steve and Victoria were so welcoming and helpful. The food was very nice
- Angela (7/5): Mixed Bag - Central to Totnes and some wonderful walks . Staff are very friendly and the food in the restaurant is okay. The soundproofing is terrible, we could quite literally hear our neighbours talking and the music from the bar. It’s listed as luxury accommodation but is dated and needs a lick of paint.

- Christian (8/5): Court mais agréable et le personnel sympathique. - Confort, calme et près des chemins menant dans les champs. Rien à signaler
- Lois (8/5): Stay in the Sea Trout Staverton - I liked the cosy room and the decor . The staff were friendly the bed comfy. It felt secure for a single female traveller. I find this in almost everywhere I stay . Because of fire doors there is a bit of noise in the corridor. And the walls between the rooms were not really sound proof . Its a thing in most hotels and accommodation. .
- YIQING (8/5): - 房间很安静 床垫很软,睡觉会腰酸

- ALISON (9/5): - Restaurant was expensive for contractors but I am sure the food was worth the price

- Roger (8/5): Comfortable but isolsted - The atmosphere of this isolated pub and the food made it a pleasant place to stay. I would normally prefer a buffet breakfast but the a la carte breakfast worked well for me on this occasion. Good with ensuring gluten free meals including two of my favourites not widely available gluten free, battered fish and apple & rhubarb crumble. The location is plessant but butisolated. Being without a car I depended on taxis to get to Buckfastleigh and a lift back, and taxis from and to Totnes. The infrequent bus didn't go as close to Totnes station as I expected.
Bedside lighting was excellent, but there was no light over the dressing table, nor was there's free electric socket to charge my computer at the most convenient place to work.
- lizzzz84 (10/5): Great value clean rooms and comfy beds - Breakfast was amazing
- Steve (6/5): The 4 keg beers at the bar were all off. Was told the pumps in cellar weren’t working, thing is the keg beers are pumped - Quirky themed bar and restaurant. Rooms were a little basic
- Nick (6/5): Room was value for money. Food and drink pricey for a rural pub. - Atmosphere in the pub was good. We felt the food and drinks were expensive. £26.00 for the cheapest bottle of wine, or £8.00 for a medium glass!
- Rachael (9/5): - Welcoming atmosphere. Good menu and nice quiet room A bit more flexibility around having breakfast outside would have been good, but I was able to take my coffee outside after I’d eaten and it had a lovely sunny courtyard
- Ali (10/5): Unexpected delight - Its convenient but quiet location. The whole ambience of this lovely olde worlde inn There was nothing to dislike
- Lee (7/5): - It was exceptionally clean. I came by train and this was a little too far outside of Totnes than I wanted .However it would be fine for anyone with a car.
- john (9/5): - Food is ready good for a pub ,lovely and quiet staff are very polite

- Rob from Honiton (8/5): - Lovely pub and nice quiet location within easy reach of Staverton station and Dartington. Good good and comfortable room. Lovely bathroom with large bath and separate shower. Friendly and cosy bar area. Nice restaurant area and outside space. We were aware but was a shame there were no breakfasts available especially considering the price.
- Suezy (9/5): Pretty location - The location was lovely and the member of staff i met was very helpful and friendly.
Asked for room change which was carried out quickly and without fuss.
Food excellent, recommend the steak pie. All ok
- Paul (10/5): We had thoroughly enjoyable stay and will return. - We didn’t have breakfast, but the evening meals were excellent!
- Courtney (8/5): Lovely stay - Very friendly staff and comfortable bed
- Keith (9/5): A lovely place to stay and explore the South Devon countryside. - The location is excellent, it's a really lovely place, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good but a little on the pricey side.
- Vihing (10/5): Absolute gem of Staverton... - Beautiful pub in a quiet, beautiful village. A warm welcome at reception. Our room was spacious, well furnished, and over-looking the pub garden. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious. Highly recommend the pork belly. Loved all the highland cow decorations, plus woolly sheep from local artists that were on sale. Great art gallery whilst you dine. Had the best night's sleep in the most comfortable bed ever. Did not want to get out of bed in the morning. Having to re-hang the shower doors that were sitting off their rails and not closing...!!!

- lizzzz84 (10/5): Great value, lovely pub and comfortable large rooms -
- CLAIRE (10/5): Lovely place, lovely staff, will be back. - We arrived late so the restaurant was shut but the staff kindly said we could eat our takeaway in the bar. They were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice, good size and clean, and breakfast was good. Although out of season, I still feel the nightly rate was very good value. We would certainly come back. Corner shower cubicle was quite small, bit of a squeeze, but only slight issue we had; not the end of the world!
- Andy (10/5): -
- Popiolek (8/5): - Lovely location, fantastic local walks and short drive to Totnes and Dartington, or A38 for further afield. Lovely staff, very good breakfasts and quiet, comfortable room. First night very cold, couldn't get the radiator on. Further nights a little too hot.....
- RICHARD (7/5): good wil return - Good size, clean and quiet. No batteries in tv remote TV very small
- Jake (10/5): What we needed where we needed it. - Very good breakfast, and prepared to make minor changes to the Full English (swapped black pudding for more mushrooms)
- karyn (10/5): Fantastic! - A lovely large pub in a rural setting, which serves fantastic food. The manager Barry was very welcoming the minute we arrived, and kept our friends and us smiling throughout our stay. The breakfast was locally sourced and beautifully cooked. I wanted to stay an extra night and try their evening menu, which looked amazing. Next time.... Difficult to get taxis if you're eating at the Coppa Dollar 9 mins down the road, however Barry kindly sorted our taxis for us - we couldn't have asked for more!
- Helen (8/5): - Great staff, helpful and efficient Room was blisteringly hot and there was no fan
- Bernadette (7/5): Very pleasant -
- John (7/5): Pleasant - Friendly helpful staff Rooms a little tired
- Ruth (9/5): - Beds very comfortable. Food was delicious. Hosts very friendly. Hot water was scalding.
- Karmen (7/5): - Hospitality was fantastic. Friendly and welcoming staff. My room was terribly cold. Had to crank up the heating and eventually had to get a portable heater.
- Shirley (9/5): Wish it could have been longer. - Pleasant dining room. Good variety of food. Friendly and helpful staff. Very happy with everything.
- Coulson (9/5): -
- Peter (8/5): Nice old pub for a short stay -
- Jenny (10/5): We spent a very comfortable night here and enjoyed good food - It was clean, very comfortable and very nice staff Nothing not to like
- Colin (7/5): Very pleasant, relaxing, good general location. - the included breakfast was OK, the paid breakfast was a bit expensive. Evening restaurant meals were good, served & well presented by staff. Vehicle access, some room facilities were did not work, TV remote (battery? ), radiator TRV, bottom two draws on dressing table were jammed, one of them had a handle hanging off, We did not mention them as we did not intend to use them.
- ChelseaMick59 (8/5): - Location ,car park ,room and bed all really good Food was a little pricey for effecively a village pub.
Key dislike was at breakfast,as I was passed the menu I was askexswould uou like a drink with your breakfast ,so ordered tea.
Then found it charged at £3.75 extra on the breakfast cost.
I could have had a cup of tea in my room before breakfast.,in the room price.
Nice location, good rooms but I will.not be back
- Ros (10/5): -

- Susan (10/5): Will go back when I can - Evening meals where very good, Staff very accommodating and friendly. Plenty of free parking. Quilt on bed a bit heavy.
- Nick (9/5): -
- Mark (9/5): -
- Julie (6/5): - Lovely hotel with great facilities, food is amazing but the noise at night, slamming doors and general disturbance made it hard to sleep. It’s my second stay here, and unfortunately the night time noise was an issue again, which isn’t ideal when you’ve got work the next day
- Margaret (10/5): -
- Colin (10/5): - The rooms were very clean and pleasant. Brian and all the staff were great, helpful and nothing was a problem. ANOTHER WONDERFUL STAY. We will be back for sure.
- Nicola (7/5): -
- Steven (9/5): -
- Jo (10/5): Good fish pie 🥧 - Good food nice pub Rooms a little dated but fine
- John (8/5): -
- D (9/5): -
- neil (7/5): - Pub was great Rooms are a little tired
- Hannah (10/5): - Barry the manager was so welcoming and friendly, the room was exactly like the pictures. Food was delicious. Will definitely return.
- Alexander (4/5): Dreadful - Approaching the Sea Trout Inn it looked pleasant with its white washed stone walls but, drawing into the scruffy unkempt car park with broken furniture and wilderness garden, I started to worry.
Inside the pub wasn't much better with a general state of grubbiness. The bar area was filthy and my pint of local bitter was £6.70!! My room resembled something from the late 60's in decor with uncomfortable twin beds and the smallest tv available. Very thin unlined curtains.
The food was nice but overpriced and small portions.
Breakfast was another disappointment: expensive at £12.00 without any juices, cereal, fruit etc. Surly service, a single cup of dreadful, weak 'pour and serve' coffee (one cup only) at an extra £3.25.
The Sea Trout Inn is well worth avoiding!
- Kimberly (10/5): Loved it! - The staff were friendly & very helpfully Lovely pub with rooms above & fantastic food
- Andrea (9/5): -
- Claire (10/5): - This is a fantastic place to stay. Extremely quiet of an evening, which gave us both a lovely nights sleep. We had a meal with family there and it was amazing.
- Debbie (10/5): -
- Jenny (10/5): Absolutely fantastic! - The Sea Trout Inn is fantastic! Extremely friendly and helpful staff. We had dinner which was delicious and breakfasts are to die for with a great choice. I would highly recommend! I couldn’t find any fault with it!
- Michael (9/5): Loved it, would come back again for relaxing break. - Breakfast and dinner were delicious and serving staff helpful, polite and friendly. Room comfortable. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and outside garden. Not hotels problem really, but, taxi back from wedding venue proved a problem. Advice would be to secure taxi if needed well in advance and confirmation they will actually turn up.
- Paula (10/5): Absolut fantastischer Aufenthalt - Einfach alles…. Absolut garnichts!
- Christopher (10/5): Great place to stay - Great location and peaceful All good
- evan (10/5): -
- Alwyn (8/5): - Food was good and a sensible price. Better size room than expected. Pretty patio garden. There were steps up and down in the bathroom and bedroom that was tricky and unusual. Negative attitude from staff when asking for help with problem. Eg hanging rail in the dark wardrobe fell down. Had not been fixed correctly. Response was we must have put too much on it. Just 3 lightweight items!
- Alan (8/5): Love staying at the Sea Trout. It’s a real gem. Food and Staff are excellent. - Really enjoy the relaxed environment. Staff are lovely. Food excellent value for money. Maybe a coat of paint is needed in hotel corridor but I am being picky.
- Lee (5/5): -
- Derek (8/5): - The hotel was ideally positioned with easy access to the Torbay area although difficult without your own transport.
On arrival we were asked to pay an additional £40 for the dog which I understood was in the price we paid in advance and were then charged for a cup of tea and a cup of coffee with our £12 Breakfasts when we left which was the first time I have ever come across this charge as it has always been included with a breakfast.
- Amy (6/5): - A lovely, homely inn set in dense countryside. Beautiful surroundings, you can hear steam trains and church bells. However you must have a car as it’s terribly remote and it’s a struggle to get a cab
- Mike (9/5): Superb -
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel room was nice and spacious, shower a little small. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious and excellent service.
- Maria (10/5): Quality stay for a fair price - I has a dance workshop at Hartington center and this was the only available place close by. I wasn't sure about it at first, however I must say it was one of my best stays in the UK, amazingly friendly staff, good food for fair price and they listen to all your requests w.r.t. the food, I had both breakfast and dinners there. Very quiet rooms despite the fact that the building looks quite old. On the first day, I couldn't find a cab to take me to Hartington and the staff was so lovely that they gave me a lift. Thank you so much for a lovely stay. The connection is poor in the rooms, however I didn't mind, as I wanted to chill and rest anyways. You can always sit in the bar or the garden if you need high speed internet.
- Justin (10/5): - Had a lovely stay for few days and good location to explore local area, especially Steam train with Staverton station walkable distance. Food really good and we were pleased with how well they catered for gluten intolerances. Really friendly staff.
- Michael (7/5): Good food - Very narrow roads Very narrow roads
- Edward (7/5): Good -
- Claire (8/5): Very good -
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
