Guest Reviews
- helen (10/5): Zenned out - The bed was super comfy and the room was very big with a sofa in it. There was a bath and lots of hot water as well as very nice toiletries.
In the communal dining area there was a handy fridge freezer for all to use and breakfast making facilities. The whole place had a period feel with lots of memories from the host's travels and history. The little pond outside was a very calming place to sit too surrounded by fragrant blooms. Couldn't find any issues
- Weronika (10/5): Beautiful place - The whole building is aesthetically pleasing and visually appealing. It's only a short walk from the promenade and beautiful Morrab Gardens. I got a comfortable and spacious room on the first floor. It was quiet and serene. They have a beautiful little garden for guests to enjoy. I'd love to come back sometime! The radiator in the bathroom wasn't working so it was a bit chilly in the evening. Old windows aren't airtight so it was draughty.
- Neil (10/5): Recommended thank you - Efficient check in and lovely hosts N/A

- woody (10/5): - Estoril was easy to find, checking in, using the keysafe system perfect 👌 the room was nice, with tea and coffee facilities and bottles of water for use, the beds were extremely comfortable.. like laying in a fluffy cloud ☁️, Estoril is close to both the centre and also the seafront, we stayed on a room only basis, but if you wanted you can use the dining room to eat your own food.
- Christopher (4/5): Very good location. Would go back -
- Anthony (8/5): Welcoming, everything needed for a short stay. Thank you Nong and Eddie! - Welcoming, comfortable, clean

- William (9/5): Lovely hotel, close enough to the town, but far enough to get a good nights sleep. - Quiet, yet close to the centre, was pretty much everything I was looking for us. Parking on the road was a bit tricky at times, not the hotels fault I understand, but one night I did have to park where I had to get up the next morning to move it.
- Nina (7/5): Convenient location, nice touch of some of the antique styled furniture - View of the sea, pleasant antique style, convenient location Room is small, so mind this. Also light green ikea lamp didn’t benefit the beautiful antique furniture))

- Sharron (9/5): Lovely. - Good location within walking distance to the main street, we were lucky enough to get parked on the opposite side of the road for free every time we returned to the hotel, room was spacious and plenty of storage if needed. Tea and coffee facilities in the room and Lovely little garden too. Please mind the seagulls, they will swoop and steal anything from your hands. Could hear the people walking around upstairs very easily but didn't disturb us too much. Couldn't get the TV to turn down and too a while to work out how to change the channel. Loo roll holder is a bit too far behind to reach and was broken. The pillows could do with an upgrade. All minor things and didn't ruin our stay at all.

- Nigel (8/5): A delightful establishment set in an ideal location 😊👍 - Very clean and comfortable. In an excellent location
- Kate (9/5): Estoril is very well placed for Penzance and the promenade. - The location was excellent to where I needed to be
- Graham (8/5): Suited me,would return if I get to Penzance again. - Great location…just 5/6 minutes from the centre of town but in a lovely leafy area…. Would have been nice for the host to say hello during my 5 night stay, but thats 2026 for you I suppose?

- Antonio (9/5): Lovely time lovely place and very lovely and helpful host! - Charming house perfect location Nothing was perfect
- Oliver (4/5): Just about satisfactory - Bed was comfy and pillows good firmness Window didn't stay open, yoghurt made me throw up, didn't see a single member of staff, towels like sandpaper, everything chipped or peeling, bathroom too small
- Monika (8/5): - Sehr liebenswerte Gastgeberin!
Ältere aber charmante Unterkunft.
- Jinu (8/5): - The stay was very good….a peaceful area for good holidays….❤️❤️ The check-in and check-out times did not align with our arrival time.
And have no place where we can get fresh… after the arrival…as rooms were only available at3pm.
- Angela (8/5): Value for money and friendly staff. - We loved the welcome and quirkiness. A mixture of Thai and British culture, The beds were a bit soft.
- Alistair (5/5): - Initial stay was for two nights -£126. Arranged to stay for an additional night, £63 you'd have thought? No, £70 which I felt was a little mean to charge a measly additional £7. Not sure why this was but pretty poor.
No wi-fi for two of the evenings which was a real hassle trying to arrange travel etc.
- Linda (10/5): -
- Eileen (7/5): - Slight sewer smell in our room.
Carpet needed cleaning or replacing.
Inconvenient to town.

- Barbara (2/5): Disappointing but maybe could work for one night for a hiker. - location.. perfect, two blocks from sea. I have hiked the SW Coast Path and the location just off the trail would have been good. The room wasn't very clean so coming in after a day's muddy hike might not be so bad, shower, out for dinner, sleep and a packaged in plastic breakfast/lunch might be OK. The room was not clean. Bobby pins on floor from prior guest. Sugar on coffee table from prior guest. Cobwebs. Looked for lost shoe under bed, very dirty. They did change out kettle on my request as it was corroded. But, the bathroom and bedding seemed clean. The breakfast "hamper" was a plastic cafeteria tray either delivered to your room at 8 AM or left in the dining room at 8 AM. No other time was permitted. There were selections to be made by checklist the night before. Everything was in plastic containers. The freshly baked goods were store bought but heated --the only warm item offered. The simple sandwiches could be used on a hike later in the day. No variance from the checklist though. Never used so much plastic in my life. Coffee was only instant nescafe which I find undrinkable. Not much if any interface with host. Heat only worked sometimes and the room was too cold for me at night.
- Nigel (10/5): Highly recommended. I shall return in the New Year - A lovely, comfortable house, set in the established area of Penzance ( the delightful Penlee Gardens are just up the road).
A lovely welcome from the Hostess. The room was very clean, comfortable and quiet
Breakfast was bespoke and most enjoyable
- Judy (8/5): Well placed hotel happy to stay again - Lovely house, large room, kind hosts, good breakfast Couldn’t shut the window
- Paola (9/5): -
- michael (8/5): - Clean & comfy Bit dated
- Coert (10/5): Excellent -
- Michael (7/5): -
- Veronica (5/5): N/A - N/A No one at the reception
- Quentin B. (10/5): -
- Robert (6/5): -
- Eleanor (2/5): Dirty room and bathroom, left after one night. - I left mid-trip because of the state of the room.
Below photographs are from my room which was an attic room with a musty smell, poorly ventilated.
There were cobwebs and dust across the ceiling.
Linens appeared clean but there was a sticky (🤢) substance on the bedside table. The shower and bathroom (pictured below) was pretty grim. Dirt had built up where clearly there was no care in cleaning. Whole place needs renovation.
It’s not worth the risk of booking even as a budget stay because the owners of the property have firstly denied any issues with cleanliness and second have not engaged with me about these problems.
No staff were actually on property when I arrived as check in is automated, so the place had a weird vibe.
Location is decent, but if you have luggage it’s about 15m from the train station so location doesn’t offset the other issues, in my opinion.
Can’t rate breakfast as the general standard of sanitation didn’t make it seem appetising at all.
- Denise (1/5): It was extremely grim and distressing - Location only everything else was horrid. Dear Customer Services
Please see my reply to this question below.
You know we had serious issues with our stay at this property and I have already received a partial refund, I believe a full refund should be given.
The description of the accommodation at Estoril on the booking.com website, is a misrepresentation of what it truly is. When we booked we had noted that the accommodation was highlighted for its cleanliness, in reality it was extremely dirty.
The photographs on the website of the room were misleading, as were the photographs of the breakfast.
We had no choice but to stay in that filthy accommodation for one night because it was late and raining. We were freezing cold due to the window being jammed open, obviously to try and mask the smell of damp.
The dirt in the room was so ingrained, there was thick dust and dirt, everywhere and the carpets were particularly filthy dirty.
There was mould everywhere in the bathroom, it was on the walls, as well as in the cracked tiles on the floor and shower. Even the bottle of bleach in the dirty cupboard was covered in mould. It was so horrible that we did not use the bathroom!
My sister suffered from a lung condition and spent most of the night coughing and using her emergency medication.
The next morning, we had no option but to trudge around penzance with our cases in the rain looking for alternative accommodation.
If we do not receive a honourable reply from Estroril I will be pursuing a claim under the Misrepresentation Act.
- Rikki Northward (7/5): Comfortable enough - Interesting old house very close to the sea and number of restaurants. Not too far from bus & rail stations. Liked the bottled water supplied in room & easy access to more tea, coffee, sugar No cooked breakfast, although the pastries egg roll fruit & yoghurt good quality. No fresh coffee (only instant Nescafe). Pillows & towels not great & some maintenance issues
- Jim (10/5): - I stayed here August 26th to 30th under the care of hosts Eddie and Nong.
Good communication re self check in on the days leading up to my stay.
Fabulous location, the promenade 3 minutes one way and the town centre 3 minutes the other way. The Penzance School of Art at one end of the road and delightful subtropical gardens at the other end.
I was in Rm 7 (single room), which was accessed up a steep flight of stairs.
The room was clean and comfortable with a single bed, a large armchair, all amenities, and a good-sized en suite bathroom with a powerful shower.
A continental breakfast was included in the price, either delivered to the room or taken in the dining room.
I'm bound to return to Penzance at some point as this is where I'll stay.
Highly recommend, but just be mindful of the stairs .

- David John (8/5): Pleasant, comfortable , quiet. The location is near to the Marine walk along the shore - Clean , pleasant and homely. All facilities needed for a comfortable stay. Breakfast is pre ordered and is a light type , no cooked food, there is a downstairs dining room or one can have the meal delivered for a specific time , to eat in the room. There are coffee and tea facilities in the room. The stairs up to the room that I occupied are very steep and if you have heavy baggage you should take great care , there is no elevator.
- George (10/5): - Easy check in & out and a lovely breakfast delivered to our room
- Jan (4/5): - Ok breakfast. Very bad cleaning.
- Alison (9/5): Friendly hosts - Nice area Steep steps
- Xiomara Lissette (9/5): Excellent service and location. - The kindness of the owners. They helped me and made it easier for my early arrival. The facilities are clean and good. I highly recommend this place. For me everything was excellent, except the bed was sagged, but for sure if I'd stay longer the owners would resolve the situation.
- Subhadeep (9/5): - Good location and communication. a) The bed should be a more comfortable and
b) preferable breakfast should have more options (including hot beverages like coffee, and includes scrambled egg/ omelette)
- Daniel78 (9/5): Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location - Really lovely hotel on a beautiful street right next to the stunning Morrab Gardens, and a nice small walk into town.
Perfect for a few days stay. I hadn't been back to Penzance since I lived there 30 years ago so was very happy to have this as a base to go out exploring memory lanes. It seems all accommodation in Penzance is very expensive, so this was the best deal.
It was lovely to get a packed breakfast, though I'm a big lad and could have eaten quite a lot more :)
- Andreas (4/5): -
- Keith (8/5): Good value for money - Good value for money , nice staff and flexible breakfast.
- Gerda (8/5): Very satisfied - The room was large and comfortably furnished, and the bed was very comfortable. Plenty of storage space, including in the bathroom. Breakfast was okay, though filter coffee would have been nice. The Landlady was very nice! A lot of waste was generated at breakfast, as everything (fruit salad, yogurt, milk, cereals, etc.) was repackaged as individual portions in plastic containers.
- WOLFGANG (7/5): - Gute zentrale Lage, ruhig. Bett nicht sehr bequem. Raum Nr.6 wirkt abgewohnt.
- Kathleen Jill (7/5): - Beautiful building in a quiet road, near lovely Penlee Park and not far from sea front. I was happy with the breakfast in carrier bag as was able to use dining room to eat, and the savoury filled rolls were delicious, bread and viennoiserie of excellent quality. Enjoyed chatting with Nong, who was charming, well worth the effort to understand. My single bed in Room 7 was very comfortable with foam mattress, and ideal for my spinal injury from many years ago, which I always have to mention before I stay away. Whilst the garden flowers were absolutely beautiful, it was sad to see such a messy path with dead bamboo leaves. Stairs to the top floor are steep, but this is made clear. In artificial light it is clear that the carpet in room 7 is very soiled. A bedside rug would improve the look of the room after cleaning the carpet as well as possible. I personally don't mind assorted unmatched old items of furniture; but I will never be happy with self check-ins at establishments.Perhaps at 78 I'm too old-fashioned!
- Peter (9/5): Tell all my friends & look forward to return visit. - breakfast was great with helpful hosts, Location ideal for coastal access. NIL
- Adrien (3/5): - the location was very good Very small bathroom and a sink outside of it (in the bedroom). Everything was quite old and not really appealing, the breakfast was a joke.
- Katherine (9/5): -
- Ashokan (10/5): -
Anders zoeken.
- Marlo (10/5): -
- Tina (9/5): -
- mila (7/5): Old style Cornwall - Atmosfera Anglosassone, posizione molto comoda, giardino fiorito incantevole. Camere umide, pulizia non accurata.
- Nguyen (7/5): -
- Jensen (9/5): -
- SANDRINE (9/5): Great ! - Tout était super !
- Consuelo (10/5): -
- Deb (9/5): Very good. - Location, friendliness breakfast and decor.👍 Nothing.
- Angel (2/5): -
- Jennifer (7/5): We had a nice stay here, I think it is reasonably priced. - The house was beautifully presented and the garden had lots of nice plants and a pond with koi karp. Our room was comfortable, and had all the amenities we needed. There was a form in our room for breakfast the next day, there was a wide variety of choices, you had the option to have breakfast brought to your door in the morning or to have it in the dining area. It's very close to the sea front, and has some beautiful parks near by. When we interacted with the staff, they were very friendly. When we arrived, the bell on the desk didn't seem to work, and we couldn't find any staff, so we went for a walk until we could self check in at 15:00. Our room was clean in every other way, but it was very dusty, and the inside of the drawers smelt quite musty.
- Gary (6/5): - Closeness to parks and the promenade The hotel served its purpose
- Grg (9/5): -
The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. And we received a very friendly welcome.
The location is also good, with quick access to the harbor. Unfortunately, I have to say I was disappointed with the room. However, the damp room was impossible to ventilate because the window required considerable force to open and fix. In front of the window is a door, lots of plants, and refrigerators that beep all night long. This makes it impossible to ventilate or sleep with the window open. You can see that the damp is already forming mold on the walls, and—thank goodness—a "silverfish" (a bug that lives in damp conditions) crawled across the pillow just before we left. Furthermore, the right bed is sagging, forming a depression that causes back pain.
- Anna (7/5): - Clean, tidy and stuff was friendly. Beds could be a bit more comfortable. Maybe some light snacks in the evening?
It felt more like b’n’b than hotel
- Wang (4/5): It's not worth the price. - The house has a free breakfast, but it is prepared in advance by the landlord in a bag for you, similar to what you would buy in a supermarket.
We stayed in a deluxe room, which was enough for two people, the bathroom was a bit small. I found the landlord's service to be very bad and impersonal. We arrived about two hours early and could have actually given us the key and put our stuff up, but had to wait until 3:00 to put it in the lock in front of us and then we were in front of her before removing the key, which I thought was silly.
Secondly on the last day of checking out we handed the keys to the landlord at 10:00 but as our train was at 2:00 I waited a little longer in the communal dining room to go to the area and asked the landlord when I wanted to go to the toilet half way through only to be evicted and told that we hadn't paid for the day so we couldn't borrow the toilet, and with that I was kicked out of the flat and the door was locked.
I thought this was very rude and discourteous, I didn't ask for anything, I just wanted to borrow the bathroom!!
- Steven (7/5): Unexpected in all sorts of ways. The breakfast is unusual with no hot food but the owner works hard - The owner was very helpful and worked hard to ensure we were happy. The rooms are a little tired and need some work.

- Curtis (10/5): Festival weekend - I felt very safe as a solo traveller, a quiet location, and close to the parks Nothing it was great
- Sophie (10/5): -
