Guest Reviews
- Alban (8/5): Très décevant - Le personnel L’hygiène
- Teigan (8/5): Our stay was amazing, and I would definitely return to this Riad! - The location, staff, and facilities were incredible. I can't fault anything. Also, the food they serve is amazing, especially the Morrocan salad - definitely recommend. I had booked a massage with the riad, and the masseuse kept going on her phone and accepting calls during the session, which was not very professional.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Christian (8/5): -
- Cécile (10/5): Parfait! - Extraordinaire!
- James (9/5): Amazing whirlwind taste of Marrakech and a fab Riad. - The location was fabulous and so relaxing. The night manager Armit (apologies if it’s spelled incorrectly) was amazing, helpful and kind. The hammam was one of the best experienced anywhere I’ve travelled. Highly recommend. It was moist right.
- John (8/5): Lovely relaxing stay in beautifully restored building. Haven from the melee of the Medina. - Swimming pool. Breakfast. Staff. Roof area. Central bath/shower is difficult for older people.
Ben & Lila Ras
- Kathryn (10/5): Beautiful Riad, Abdu fantastic, really helpful, couldn’t do enough for us. - Lovely old quirky Riad
Very comfortable Doesn’t sell alcahol
- Samantha (8/5): -
- Justin (10/5): I booked this as another property (locally) let us down and had no room for us despite our reservation. We turned up 10 - Friendliness and politeness of staff. Traditional and charming, but beautifully presented and recently renovated Nothing
- Apolline (10/5): -
- Ana Katherina (9/5): Great and peaceful - The property is gorgeous, and the staff is very fiendly The riad entrance is in a dark alley that doesnt make you feel super safe.
- Emma (9/5): Brilliant stay at a beautifully restored Riad! - Amazing food and hospitality! Pillows could have been a bit better if I’m being fussy!
- Remelgado (10/5): Heaven in the Medina - Amazing place and staff with very familiar environment. Abdullah and Bouchra treated us with care and attentive all the time. We also opted to have 2 dinners in the Ryad and the food was amazing, the best way to relax after a day walking around the Medina. Location is very central and you can reach out everywhere walking. Couldn’t recommend more!
- Clementine (10/5): Todo perfecto!
- David (8/5): initially we were rather non plussed but then were beguiled. - Every body we encountered went beyond the call of duty, calm, clever and helpful. Abdul made our stay ably assisted by the day staff. The room and bath were comfortable and our adjacent private terrace a joy for reading and especially for the delicious breakfast. We ate deliciously on the roof terrace which was candle lit and charming. Finding one;s way out and finding ones way back took a couple of days to master but the hotel staff would accompany us on the our way out and home later at night to the taxis. WE did get it after a couple of days.
- Virginia (9/5): - The riad is absolutely gorgeous. Our room was fantastic and the staff were second to none.Very welcoming. Nothing.
- ADRIAN (9/5): A wonderful riad. Great location. Tasteful decor and great comfort. - Delightful breakfast. Beautifully served. Fruit. Freshly squeezed juice excellent coffee, pastries, pancakes, yoghurt. All delicious. It was all superb.
- Vanessa (9/5): Tranquil, beautiful rooms, super staff, great food - Abdul and the staff were wonderful, knowledgeable and made our stay a real holiday from start to finish. The dinners at Dar Housnia were also the best food we had during the whole trip - delicious fish. And gorgeous breakfasts. Thank you!
- Jennifer (8/5): -
- Sreedevi (10/5): -
- Jacqueline Ann (10/5): Lovely, quiet, private riad, with wonderful breakfast on sunny terrace - Beautiful Riad in Authentic Marrakech location. A haven from the outside world. The communiction was not good ...response to emails or phone calls could have been much better and the owner in Belgium when contacted could have been more helpful especially when calling Belgium from Marrakech via mobile phone.
- Claudette (8/5): Wonderful peaceful and relaxing stay! - Loved the pool and terrace. Make sure to book meals at the Riad. The food is absolutely delicious! The cook is excellent, her food was tastier than the food in one of the 3 top restaurants in Marrakesh. We had spa treatments and enjoyed those too. The therapist is friendly and well trained. The staff were all very courteous. The riad is extremely clean. There are little birds flying around that brings a special charm to the riad. Not many staff who speak English which is tricky if you do not speak French. Our stay lacked a personal touch and warmth due to this. Nobody checks in or offer advice on places to visit for example. Communication is limited and comes across as purely transactional. It would have been nice to have received a price list for drinks.
- Layne (9/5): Great hotel - Superb hotel and very helpful staff. Beautifully decorated and furnished with amazing small pool to cool down.
Lovely roof terrace for breakfast. Super quiet relaxation just near the Souq. Added %'s for credit card payments are a bit steep
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philippa (9/5): Superb -
- Victoria (9/5): Beautiful stay would highly recommend - Loved the property staff were super helpful, pleasant.
and accommodating. Zenab is a great cook the food was really good and great value. The whole property, particularly the roof top are beautifully furnished. The pool area although small was relaxing.great to have a good hairdryer in the bathroom too Would have like the pool heated, as it was a little cold. Would have liked better quality products in the bathroom e.g hair conditioner not just shampoo and cotton wool pads
- Laurent (10/5): perfect quiet and elegant haven in the midst of bursting medina - the space
peacefulness
the kindness of the staff team
the food nothing worth noting. maybe felt a little cold at night
- Rawsthorne (9/5): Stay here! - Beautiful riad just like in the photos. Amazing staff who were always available but respected our privacy. Calm oasis in the midst of the chaos of the medina! A bit noisy from the sounds of the medina at night but we soon got used to that and just slept in on the amazingly comfortable bed!
- Chris (7/5): Nice service, lovely facilities and sensible price ! - A small bespoke Guest house of 4 bedrooms. Nice people, clean and tidy and the room was excellent ! We had an amazing sauna, massage and scrub. Dinner and breakfasts were good and private. Rather difficult locality to get to !
- Richard (10/5): Really pleasant place to stay. - The staff were very friendly, breakfast was excellent, very clean and tidy Not a lot really
- Jane (10/5): Wonderful calm oasis in the middle of the Medina. Attention to detail is second to none. - What an oasis of calm. Walking in through the door you would never know you were just metres away from the noisy motorbikes belching smoke and the hum and buzz of traders in the medina. The detail, the quality of the furnishings and the understated elegance of the decor was outstanding. And the peace was wonderful.
A fabulous dipping pool that was not heated at the time we stayed and a wonderful terrace for breakfast and aperitfis. We had dinner one night. Too much food for three people, but excellent quality and a fabulous range of Moroccan cooking - topped off by one of the best Tiramisu's this side of Italy! There is a mix-up between the drivers and luggage carriers regarding who is responsible for paying—this needs sorting out.
- Ismet (10/5): - Eine tolle Unterkunft. Sehr nettes Personal und super Lage.
- Anthony (8/5): The Riad was peaceful after a busy day in the Medina. Evening meals were excellent. - Breakfast was delicious.staff very friendly, kind and helpful.
- Heather (10/5): I hope to return. - Everything. A superb location, exceptionally comfortable and staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay. Nothing. But people with limited mobility might have trouble with the steps.
- Gary (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful rooms and food. Staff very attentive.
- Elizabeth (2/5): - Air conditioning worked..
- Mercedes (10/5): - Beautiful property with incredible staff. We don’t like the Medina so much to stay. I have to say that despite the surroundings being sketchy, we never felt scared or in danger. Abdel made sure we were always taken care of. We also had a great driver called Nabil. In short, great place with great staff but you must be ok with staying in the mayhem of the Medina.
- Kate (8/5): Very good - We stayed in the Douiria - it was a beautiful set of two bedrooms, sitting room area and roof top terrace, with access to the shared pool. Staff very friendly and always helpful (lots of mint tea and helped with local advice and restaurant reservations) Price of a bottle of water. 60 dirhams (~ 6 euros) on end of stay bill (when a bottle costs 6 dirhams a few minutes walk from riad and the information pack in the room stated 25 dirhams) seemed a bit much.
- Abdulla (10/5): -
Dar Housnia exceeded my expectations in every way. The room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed with modern amenities. The staff was friendly, professional, and went above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. The location was convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions and transportation. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a memorable and enjoyable stay.
- Lauren (7/5): Good - Breakfast was very generous, and the location was great. The wait time for service was very long at times and our bath didn't fill up which was disappointing.
- Blake (10/5): - The staff at Dar Housnia were wonderful and made us feel right at home! The Riad itself is as beautiful as it is authentic with intricate detailing, lovely pool, and beautifully gardened roof terrace.
I strongly recommend dining at the hotel at least once, as the chef prepares delicious traditional Maroccan dinners and breakfasts. Getting to the hotel is an interesting and immersive experience, we arranged an airport shuttle with the Riad who drove us to the square nearby, where we met a person who couriered our luggage the rest of the way (~500m) through the Medina to the Riad.
The location is excellent; close to some of the best places to visit in Marrakech including Le Jardín Secret, Badi Palace, Souk Semmarine, and many others.
I would strongly recommend this Riad to anyone interested in staying in the old city of Marrakech.
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abi (10/5): A beautiful oasis with amazing staff - Everything. We were given the warmest of welcomes and looked after throughout our stay. The staff were amazing especially Abdu who was always happy to help us with anything or give any advice on where to visit, or to arrange transport for us etc. We were given the most wonderful home cooked food on the first night, which my children enjoyed so much, we asked for it again before we left and the staff were more than happy to cater to our requests. The location was just perfect, a short walk and you were right in the middle of all the madness of the medina, but the riad was so peaceful, a lovely little oasis. We felt very safe walking to and from the riad.
Our apartment was just beautiful with everything we needed, my children especially loved the roof terrace and pool. I must mention breakfast too….one of the best breakfasts we’ve ever had and so much of it, all bought up to our roof terrace for us to enjoy in the morning sun.
Thank you all again for a wonderful time and we hope to visit again. Nothing!
- May (10/5): Our stay was amazing. We hope to go back - Our stay at Dar Housnia was amazing. We hope to go back. The decor was beautiful, the staff were friendly and we had excellent service from them. The food was delicious and the room was stunning. The location is within walking distance of the Souks and main square. The rooftop was peaceful and comfortable to sunbathe with a drink. Thank you Abdul for our lovely rooftop breakfasts, it was a lovely way to start the day.
- Dolores (9/5): Superb -
- Kathleen (4/5): Not the best area in the medina - . I booked this for my birthday weekend in marrakech and after visiting just two years ago I was very excited, unfortunately I think the facilities had been a bit misleading and so I wasn't satisfied upon arrival. A few notes as to why below
1. We had the room with the stone tub, we booked this room specifically to use the beautiful tub but when we arrived there was no hot water, we asked for it to be fixed but it just became slightly warmer and not suitable for using a bath.
2. The door that lead directly onto the patio had about a 3 inch gap so there is no real privacy/noise from inside and outside is heard both ways.
3. The toilet in the room doesn't have a door, it is covered with a curtain, so for those who are perhaps a bit shy doing a number 2 this isn't ideal with your partner sat in the bedroom.
4. Except for tea/coffee you can't actually order any snacks or something from a small menu - I think a small snack/drink menu would be good just because the riad is not that close to anything like a shop and the walk to other establishments isn't that close by.
5. The location of the riad itself is quite a distance from anything/a main road to grab taxi. We had plans to be out in the evenings and noticed there isn't much lighting and also unlike on the other side of the medina (near the koutobia mosque) where there are many roads and hotels and plenty of lights in the alleyways, this side doesn't have as much, so if you are a bit less adventurous those won't be suitable for you as it's a little scary.
I have no qualms about the staff as they had been kind and lovely, just a bit misleading as a 4 star riad I expected more of a hotel feel and yet it was more like a serviced airbnb... there are people to help a bit but not hotel standards.
Recomendaciones y excursiones privadas.
- Catherine (9/5): Superb -
- Gillian (10/5): Lovely riad in great location, great staff and fabulous dinners - Everything Nothing
- Sharon (10/5): Stunning apartment with brilliant staff and facilities. A wonderful family stay. - A beautiful property which exceeded our expectations. Loved the two separate bedrooms each with ensuite, the lovely family room, the terrace and the shared pool area. Staff were so welcoming and friendly. Nothing - it was all amazing!
- Jeremy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eirik (10/5): The staff at Dar Housnia delivered the best service we have ever experienced - The staff was super nice and was always there to help. Abdul who I assume was the manager always made sure we had everything we need. The service surpased our expectations.
- Amanda (9/5): Fabulous experience. - The riad was beautiful and extremely peaceful. The staff were very welcoming and attentive providing 5 star service. The location is ideal, in close proximity to attractions, restaurants and souks. We felt very safe walking the area at night. We will definitely be back!
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (8/5): Lovely stay in a friendly, homely Riad - Located in a quieter less touristy area of the Medina, although still near the hustle and bustle…in the old town you are never far from the busyness of the City! Porters were arranged to take luggage to and from the nearby small square to the Riad ( a short walk through a busy covered souk/alley used mainly by locals for food/provision) and this was efficiently done. We had a private transfer to/from the airport that the Riad arranged which was timely and efficient, the drivers were always prompt and courteous and escorted us to the Riad.
Breakfast was fresh, plentiful and delicious, especially nice on the rooftop terrace.
We had two dinners at the Riad, lovely home cooked food, plentiful, and the staff were happy to take requests for certain dishes which were always fresh and well presented.
Staff were always on hand for questions, concerns and requests and were polite and helpful.
Room was beautiful, lovely traditional style decor and features, bed was comfortable, room always clean. Sometimes, later in the evening, the comings and goings of staff and guests could be a little noisy - our room was located near the entrance/kitchen, but this is an old building with a courtyard so it’s to be expected that noise would travel. But this is a minor point and did not spoil our stay.
- Paula (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Judith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kristina (10/5): A wonderful holiday in a beautiful Riad that feels like home. - The Riad was amazing from start to finish. The personal touches were wonderful, the food was delicious, the staff were amazingly attentive and super helpful. We had an absolutely wonderful time. The wifi was strong enough to facetime home. They helped to accommodate any wish or request we had. We got to experience the beautiful private hammam they have and got massages which were great value. Overall a very relaxing and beautiful vacation! Be aware that you can't arrive directly by car, you will be dropped off and taken by foot and luggage cart through the medina. This was a surprise and if i had been a solo female traveler would have been very intimidating as no one had mentioned this should be expected. Ultimately it was totally safe and normal but having not known this it was nerve wracking.
- Christopher (10/5): - Dar Housnia is a gorgeous Riad that is well-run by hospitable staff. It is a wonderful location from which to explore Marrakech and I definitely recommend it to others.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely calm and friendly oasis in the medina. Excellent evening meals.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - 5* home away from home. this is a wonderful hideaway in the heart of Medina. Mustapha and Ali are the kindest and most helpful hosts. they gave us all the tips and trick to survive in the crazy Medina. All suites are unique and very comfy with beautiful design. Delicious brekkie. Love chilling in the evenings on the patio. Make sure you use their airport transfer to connect swiftly as taxi won't get you to the doors and medina streets are very difficult to navigate.
- Debra (10/5): - Amazing place, tranquil and beautifully appointed. Staff are fantastic, really helpful and very friendly. Highly recommend the Dar Housnia.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful property, with wonderful service. We had a very romantic dinner on the roof.
- Sophie (10/5): Beautiful, homely and fabulous food! - Dar Housnia is beautiful and we were so well looked after by Mustafa and Ali throughout our stay. Rachida cooked us the most delicious meals, the best of our whole trip. My rooms was beautiful and very comfortable, the only slight downside was that the rooms were a little on the chilly side (even with the extra heaters provided) and I wasn’t quite prepared for the lack of a stand up shower! But if I return to Marrakech I would definitely, without hesitation, stay here again. We were made to feel like we were at home, with the added benefit of a private butler! Overall, fabulous!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice on the surface but a few unexpected items on the bill and my necklace went missing...
- Verified traveler (4/5): Rude, Unsafe - Unfortunately, we had a terrible stay at this hotel. While the space is beautiful and well kept, the service was awful. Specifically, Ali was very, very rude during our stay. We were ambilant of his behavior during the stay, however, we were pushed past our limit when we were locked out of the hotel on our final night without another way to get in (they don't give you a key). After ringing the doorbell, we were left for 20-minutes standing late at night in a dark alley (where the hotel is located) with no answer. We had no choice but to walked back down the dark alley to the main street and asked a vendor to call the hotel. After two unsuccessful phone calls, Ali answered that he was at the hotel. Instead of apologizing for the inconvenience once we were safely back, he said he was in the lounge and could not hear the doorbell. He insinuated the situation was our fault and again said we could not expect him to hear us. If he had only apologized, we would have been upset but understood. I expected much better service from an establishment that purports to be a four-star property.
- Amit (6/5): Disappointing Dar in residential part of medina - Dar Housnia is a good choice for those looking for a traditional house style hotel in a residential area of the medina.
I was a little disappointed as the pictures of the hotel seemed to show a luxurious hotel. In reality Dar Housnia has a rustic feeling. In the bedroom, the rustic ceramic tile floor, the torn rug and the rustic finishing of the walls made me uncomfortable to walk barefoot. It did not help that the slippers in the room might have been white once, but now were grayish.
The breakfast was ok with fruit, fresh orange juice, jams, traditional breads and eggs to order. We also had lunch in the hotel in our last day. We wanted to try the food in the hotel as other guests raved about it. Again, we were a little disappointed as the food was good, but nothing out of the extraordinary (The sardines and the lentil salad were good, but the strawberry desert was uninspiring), considering we had great Moroccan food in many restaurants in and out of the medina.
Communication in english can be difficult. For some reason the manager would always revert to talking in french until we made a confused face. The lunch was a case in point. We ordered the sardines and the chicken and one strawberry and one orange desert. The chicken and the orange desert never arrived.
