Guest Reviews
- Eileen (10/5): Exceeded Expectations! - This place blew our minds! Staying in a 16th Century castle is a once in a lifetime experience. Highly recommend!
The staff Alexandro and Yenny were top notch!
- Maryna (10/5): A fabulous place! A stunning combination of historical atmosphere and modern comfort. - “An extraordinary historical atmosphere! The especially sensitive ones — like me — may even encounter a ghost :-) The castle stands far from any residential area, surrounded by open fields and an ancient olive grove. The silence is something a city dweller can hardly imagine.
Near the castle there is a charming small lake and many mysterious carved stones that will spark your imagination.
The hotel itself is beautifully restored; the rooms are dry, clean, and comfortable. The staff are friendly and attentive. There aren’t many rooms available, which creates a wonderful sense of privacy. The cozy inner courtyard is home to countless songbirds — waking up to their singing is truly magical.
An incredible experience! Despite my original travel plans, I extended my stay for an extra day just to enjoy the fairytale atmosphere and the peacefulness. This has never happened to me before.
If you ever have the chance to visit — don’t miss it!” The only drawback is the limited check-in time, but given the friendly staff, I don't think it's a problem if you arrange your arrival time in advance. In my opinion, this isn't even a drawback, but a definite plus. It feels like you own the castle all day, until the early hours.
- William (10/5): - Something really different a great conversion nice people very helpful a lovely place to wander around on a nice sunny evening as we had
Not hard to find at all.
Absolutely recommend

- Nuria (10/5): Maravillosa experiencia - Todo.
- MARIA ELENA (7/5): - The views , the place , the rooms, the quietness Dont serve dinner

- Nicholas (9/5): Lovely room in a spectacular location - Beautiful room in a spectacular location, good breakfast, friendly, helpful staff. Directions from Booking.com were unclear and led us to a nearby castle with a similar name. We phoned and were given more details “it’s the second castle you want”. We could not find the exact location on our SatNav.
There was a sofa but no chairs in the room, this was not a problem for us as we were only staying overnight.
No wi-fi but phone signal was ok.
- Eric (7/5): -
- David (9/5): - A wonderful building, huge bedroom, very helpful receptionist, beautiful gardens Draughty and cold in the bedroom
- Katy (10/5): Great stopover. Amazing rooms - Amazing castle outside of Caceres. Our room was incredible. Very peaceful and quiet. Great air conditioning in room which was essential! Unfortunately when we were there it was very hot so the kids didn’t fancy doing anything, but the place is beautiful
- Kevin (8/5): Very good -
- Kate (10/5): Glorious old Castillo with plenty of modern day comfort ❤️ - Our second stay here at this fabulous Castillo and it won’t be our last (hopefully!). A truly magnificent and atmospheric castle, loaded with history, but also modern day comforts like great heating, hot water and wifi. We splashed out on the Presidential Suite this time and it was definitely worth it. Great views out of the windows, very good shower and a comfortable bed. We were driving from Bilbao to Tarifa and it made the perfect half way stop over. No suppers provided but a grand old kitchen you are welcome to use to cook up your own food. Plus help yourself to breakfast in the morning. Easy, safe parking for our large van. We loved it - 10/10 Thank you Nothing
- Clark (10/5): Unique opportunity to stay at a historic site! - Historic stay at a privately owned 16th century castle! Room was huge with very comfortable bed. Quiet and dark so slept great. Small self serve breakfast buffet. Need to plan ahead for dinner— no restaurant for miles. We biked there and had to bring our own food.
- Albert (7/5): Good -
- Kate (10/5): Wonderful stop over en route to the South - v comfortable bed, great shower and easy parking - ancient and atmospheric, but with all the modern conveniences.. loved it nothing, it was great
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luke (10/5): Amazing, you are staying in a Castle, experiencing history with some lovely added extras! - Amazing property, a very niche hotel / Castle experience. Staff amazing, and amenities more than expected with such an old property. What an experience!! That I didn’t book for longer to enjoy the gardens in more detail the following day.
- Alison (9/5): Superb -
- Annelle (8/5): Pretty cool to stay and be in a real authentic castle - I like that its a real castle, its history and that it was converted into a rural house to stay. Also the check in person was great. The breakfast, the location too far from places to eat especially if you don’t have a car, but that’s nothing to be done with that, not enough hot water in the shower.
- Val (7/5): Interesting building but overpriced for the location and level of service - A very imposing castle and a big room (superior) which was described as a suite, but it was just a big room. It was warm and comfortable enough but you wouldn’t describe it as luxurious. It was a very interesting building though. We were not told about the grounds when we checked in, but before we left in the morning we had a wander around and it was well worth exploring. After we booked we were told that we had to check in between 5pm and 7pm as the hotel doesn’t have a 24 hour reception! That suited us but what would happen if we couldn’t make that time?
Breakfast was help yourself and not particularly good. We had to go downstairs into a kitchen to make a cup of tea. There were many options of wrapped cakes and bread, so if you have a sweet tooth you will be happy. There was not a member of staff in sight in the morning.
We used this as a stopover when traveling back north to the Santander ferry. We don’t regret booking here but won’t repeat as we’ve experienced the building and can get the same level of comfort for less money elsewhere.
- Rowena (8/5): Once In A Lifetime Opportunity - We are a family of four and a child and we booked the presidential suite and suite. Both rooms did not disappoint and was exactly as advertised.
The staff and grounds are lovely. An ideal stay for couples or families with children.
The property is not ideal for people with mobility issues as there are steps to get to the kitchen and dining areas. There are only 5 rooms in this 16th century castle and even with the rooms on the ground level there i still the odd step involved.
The castle is operated as a guest house and not a full fledged hotel. As the name suggests the castle is in the rural area with no food options nearby hence the check in at 5pm.
Do manage your expectations and pack
your dinner and drinks for your stay or you will be living like a King but eating like a pauper, ( tap water was surprisingly undrinkable and cloudy ) and their breakfast options are pretty standard.
There is a full kitchen upstairs you can use to reheat or cook in and two dining options further up that one can choose to dine in or you may choose to eat casually in the room. Do save an apple or two for Bethalai the black horse on the grounds. She will be so happy to see you!
Overall if some improvements could be made in the comments below this would be a five star accommodation thou currently it warrants only a four. We would highly recommend the experience thou. Checking hours are advertised from 5 - 7 pm and check out is 10am.
While a check in at 5pm makes sense, a check out at 10am is way too early.
Thankfully the housekeeper mentioned we could stay till 12pm.
While the presidential suite was was impressive, the door lock and shower on/off tap should be improved with a lot less struggling.
There is no bottled water in the rooms. Considering the tap water is undrinkable I would at least expect two glasses and a flask of filtered water for drinking.
Breakfast was no surprise if the ratings were anything to go by. Breads etc left outside the night before was a good idea if one arrived hungry.
Some cold meats/fruits in the fridge and some bottled juice options is all. Some effort here is welcome.
- Kirby (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning location and a real privilege to stay in a castle. A little disappointed with breakfast.
