Bathroom had a very strange smell and there wasn't much by way of toiletries provided, especially in comparison to other hotels we stayed in.

The food that we had for both dinner and breakfast was fantastic and the service at both sittings was great! The room was comfortable and quiet. We would definitely return in the future. -

- Michelle (9/5): Gem of a hotel - Where can I start? From the easy check-in to the exceptional breakfast to the comfort of the bedroom and bathroom and the ease of parking, this hotel was truly a gem. About a 40 minute drive to the city centre, I think for the price of our stay was well worth it. The staff are attentive and kind and make sure you are taken well care of. I loved the complimentary shortbread biscuits too - the effort of ensuring guests have a little treat does not go unnoticed. I also want to add that the staff were super accommodating to our religious dietary needs and when asked for a prayer space (as we arrived 2 hours earlier to check-in than expected), we were kindly given the room earlier at no extra cost since the cleaner had finished cleaning the room, otherwise the male staff member at reception was looking for a space for me to pray in if the room wasn't ready. Bed could have been bigger even though me and my sister are slim in build, we still found the bed to be too small. Nevertheless, the bed and pillows were comfortable. Also, a box of tissues would have been useful. Can’t say anything else that I didn’t like though.

Our included breakfast was excellent with a very comprehensive menu. Both the bar and restaurant had the same menu and while it was fairly limited, the food was excellent with very generous portions. We ate in both, the bar and restaurant. Both were nice but I preferred the ambience in the bar. A good idea to book at weekends. Dogs are allowed in the bar, and the staff had a friendly welcome for them. We didn't find anything to dislike.

- Aisling (10/5): One of the best hotels we have stayed at.... Loved it - We had 5 rooms in all for 3 nights and all of us had such a great experience. The rooms were all spacious, bright, good mirrors, good lighting, accessible plugs, good heating, amazing showers, comfortable beds and pillows. We were attending a wedding and all of the above are important. Breakfast is made to order, great choices, tasty and fantastic. The staff all exceptional and friendly.... nothing to much. Helped arrange taxis. We had bar snack, dinner, drinks and cocktails all top quality. I have absolutely no complaint, loved it. Enjoyed returning every evening. We all 8 of us loved everything!! Wonderful

The hotel itself had a cosy feel with lovely staff and a great breakfast menu. Our rooms were cosy and well stocked. The only consideration would be the slightly dated interior and single glazing windows, however we would come here again gladly. Value for money is great.

- Jenny (10/5): Fabulous two night comfortable stay perfect for sightseeing - Located on edge of Penicuik town. Directions easy to find property and plenty of parking. Hotel is lovely and up to date and staff very friendly and welcoming. Our room was on top floor overlooking side garden (Used stairs). It was very nice and comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. Had tea, water and coffee facilities (Coffee machine was a hit) .Bed huge and comfortable with nice sheets and towels. Had a lovely bath and shower which was tastefully decorated. Breakfast was very impressive could pick anything on menu all which was delicious. We also booked evening meals. There was a good choice and again all food was delicious. Credit to their chef and staff. We had a few drinks in the bar which was comfortable and also managed to watch a rugby match. Location is great for visiting places. We went to Edinburgh which I gather you could catch a bus nearby. We drove to nearest park and ride then caught bus in. Would definately recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. I couldnt fault anything.
