Guest Reviews
- Gessica (10/5): - I highly recommend this hotel. The architecture is stunning and unique. The rooms are beautiful, the bed is very comfortable, and sleeping surrounded by the sounds of the jungle is a truly special experience.
The staff are the highlight of this property. Everyone is kind, welcoming, and always ready to help. I spent my birthday here, and they prepared a surprise cake for me, which I really appreciated.
A special mention goes to the food: every day there is something different, all organic and absolutely delicious.
The activities offered are interesting and highly recommended. A special thanks to our guide, Ghan, for accompanying us throughout these experiences and for going above and beyond to make each one memorable.
- Sophia (10/5): A Wonderful Place, Heaven in Nepal - Tiger Tops was one of the absolute highlights of my travel in Nepal. We had a wonderful time. The lodge is elegant yet relaxed, the staff are so kind and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and happy. We had so much fun going on jeep safari with our guide Sam, who was exceptionally knowledgeable, professional and fun. I’d recommend a stay at Tiger Tops to anyone, and I can’t wait to come back.
- Sean (10/5): - The staff and guides were phenomenal! Our guide, Sam, managed to find a leopard, tiger, all deer, monkeys, rhino...all within a day drive Safari, and during a season where the grass is high and finding animals is more difficult!
The lodge staff and cooks were phenomenal, and every meal was a treat!
This was my second trip to Chitwan and it was even more memorable than the first thanks to Tiger Tops!
- Andrea (8/5): Fantastic place with superb service and food. - The staff were excellent, extremely helpful and kind and efficient. Couldn’t fault them. The food was superb and very plentiful. The guide Maan was excellent and very informative. Safaris were great fun. The grounds and gardens were lovely but could have done with comfortable furniture so you could sit and enjoy the wildlife. Also the pool furniture needed updating to something more comfortable. The beds were too hard for us and needed new mattresses.
- albertosala83 (9/5): Tipico lodge in stile nepalese - La struttura è in stile tipico coloniale indiano.
- Kate Michael (10/5): An amazing location - highly recommended - This was a very special place and we loved our stay.
Accommodation was good - a proper bed for my 12 year old - not a camp bed. Good hot shower.
Food: lots of it and very high quality.
Cocktails : lovely - really tasty!
Pool : really lovely and clean.
Elephants: so special, sundown session was brilliant. Also visiting the Elephant Camp was great.
We were unlucky with the weather on the second day - we got very wet during our half day safari - hot tea and coffee and snacks appreciated. Nothing - if the weather had been better I woukd have loved to stay longer.
- Katy (10/5): Incredible wild life experience - Absalutely incredible if you love nature and wilife. Staff were amazing, very comfortable facilities and delicious food. The elephants are treated so well.
- Grant (8/5): - The staff are amazing. Whether that’s the guides, or the restaurant staff, everyone is lovely. It’s a much quieter area than staying in Sauraha, which is one of the reasons we picked it. We also picked it as it has a much better reputation for how it keeps its elephants compared to most lodges and was one of the the first to ban tourists riding them which I liked.
The safari experience was epic, saw tonnes of rhino, as well as gaur and birdlife. We also heard tigers. The lodge gardens are full of birds.
The lodge rooms are clean but quite basic. I do think they need a bit of an investment upgrade - eg painting a H in tippex on the hot tap isn’t really what you expect given the cost. There was also a bit of noise on the second night, but minimal compared to what we’d had in the rest of Nepal. The stay is inclusive of all meals, all drinks (except filtered water) are extra, the food was pretty decent.
Great place
- Alexandre (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stacey (10/5): Beautiful location and amazing experiences - The service and experiences were amazing! The staff paid attention to every detail to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The guide on the safari was great. The food was excellent. We especially enjoyed walking with the elephants and the sundowners. Nothing
- Konstantin (9/5): Superb -
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - The staff , food and ambience was just outstanding Nothing
- Upama (9/5): Superb -
- jessica (8/5): - We had a lovely stay at Tiger tops and the staff go above and beyond to make your stay pleasant. We are glad we stayed 4 nights so we had plenty of time enjoying the safari. We couldnt have asked for a better guide, Sam was genuine and you could tell he loves his job. The only thing I would wish for to give it a 5 star would be air condition and wifi that works in the room.
- Cecelia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Highlight of visit to Nepal. Lodges genuine respect of animals and dedication to teaching tourists and locals about cons - Serene setting. Genuine care for animals. Fabulous staff and food. It was all amazing.
- Jessie (6/5): Over priced for what it was, and not made clear what was/wasn’t included - Old fashioned
Lovely staff Far from anywhere else and terrible road access.
Not as luxurious as suggested
- David (9/5): Beautiful, stay and a wonderful setting with fantastic staff and great food - Beautiful property in a very peaceful and tranquil location with wonderful staff. Food was excellent and we had three days of peaceful downtime. Also wonderful being so close to nature. We arrived at a time when it was very hot and humid and the property has no air-conditioning which is in line with its environmental credentials. However, this did make out stay somewhat restless in the evenings. Also the only Wi-Fi is in reception which is a blessing and a burden.
- Heather (10/5): Incredible stay and special in my heart - We stayed in the lodge as a belated birthday present for my boyfriend and the staff went above and beyond. They baked and decorated him a cake and even brought out the elephants so he could feed them fruit and elephant sandwiches. This place will be a special place in my heart because as a double surprise, my boyfriend actually proposed to me on the first night during the elephant sundowners and it was incredible. We had the place to ourselves and Sam our tour guide looked after us so well and helped create magical memories.
The food is amazing and tastes so lovely and all the staff are very friendly and polite. They let us stay late in their main hub to use their Wi-Fi to call back home to tell them our engagement news until the late hours.
My fiancée particularly liked the hammocks and chilling by the pool to top off the stay. We went on a jeep safari which was very good but seriously expensive, it was $135 each for just a half a day and I’ve been on a few safaris before this was ridiculously expensive- the safari is no different to others where I have paid much cheaper for a full day and it included lunch so this was a rip off.
Although the elephants are treated well, when you visit them to make elephant sandwiches and say hello, you can see that they are kept in small spaces and this was hard too see as I love elephants which is why we picked this lodge as we were against the elephant trekking!
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Everything, perfect location with every opportunity to do just what we wanted re. safaris. All the staff, in whatever area they were involved in, were excellent. The food was outstanding and their elephant camp is certainly worth visiting as well. We would not hesitate in recommending this wonderful place. Nothing
- Joshua (8/5): Very good -
- Erin (9/5): worth the trip. - cosy, very cute and they did communal dining very well. food was delicious and they made sure my dietary requirements were met. USD prices. the USD is much stronger than the AUD, so everything was 25% more expensive for me
- Davud (8/5): Very good -
- Ece (10/5): MUST STAY. AMAZING EXPERIENCE.MOST OF THE STAFF HAS BEEN WORKING THEIR MORE THAN 15-20 years. FET LIKE I HAVE A HOME IN - MUST STAY. AMAZING EXPERIENCE.MOST OF THE STAFF HAS BEEN WORKING THEIR MORE THAN 15-20 years. FET LIKE I HAVE A HOME IN CHITWAN!!
- Michelle (9/5): Wonderful staff and so much wildlife to explore - We initially booked a tent but because the lodge was so quiet we got upgraded to a very nice room instead. The staff are wonderful and friendly and the guides are very knowledgeable. Being so close to elephants is a once in a lifetime experience and you get very close! there are complimentary activities included like kuchi making and feeding and also walking with the mahouts to cut and collect grass - these were our favourite activities along with the jeep safari where we saw a tonne of rhinos, birds and monkeys. The website makes the elephant camp sound like it will be outside your window (spoiler - its not! its just a short walk down the road) The food is very...well...ho hum. Its not bad, its just western food and i wish it wasn't. Nepali food is delicious and I think the offerings could have been a lot more diverse. The lodge is on the expensive side but hey, when are you ever gonna hang out with with 8 elephants that close?
- Laura (10/5): A special and unique place on Earth, where all our worldly worries disappeared in the calming power of Nature and the ge - Beautifully decorated, quiet, location right in the middle of pure nature and wildlife, friendly and very attentive staff (especially Puspa our guide and friend), delicious food, and time spent with the wonderful elephants! Not applicable , we loved everything!
- Jeremy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nichole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sara (10/5): Incredible experience in the Chitwan - Beautiful setting and amazing experience in the Chitwan. Very hospitable team. The safari tents are super comfortable and great outdoor shower! Perhaps that the activities were on top of room rate but it all goes towards supporting the elephants so it's all good.
- Jessie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sara (7/5): Delighted by Nepalese staff, disappointed by everything else - The food and the service was great!!! There was one set menu per meal, and it was very tasty food. We also really enjoyed meeting the other people staying at the lodge. We booked the tent - and were very excited about that- and arrived to find out we had to stay in a main room, which was pretty boring of a space and had black mold on the ceiling. One of our neighbors had a rat living in their room. We also chose this lodge because we thought it reflected responsible travel…that the elephants roam free (they do not, they have handlers that include utilizing sticks and chains around the elephant’s necks- even during “jungle walk”) and social responsible practices are used. A few things really bothered me with this last part- for example, the same staff who served breakfast at 6:30 -8 am, also served lunch 11-2, and dinner 7-9…and they’d be around before and afterwards….so it made me wonder what time they have off. They also had two white women as staff there - they had the Nepalese staff wait on them like they were guests and these staff did not have to wear a uniform like the Nepalese staff. I’ve worked in other countries where there were foreign and local staff, and this is definitely not an equitable practice.
I guess this was particularly bothersome because of how kind, warm, generous and welcoming the Nepalese staff were - and in contrast to how rude, unprofessional these two other women were.
I think it also bothered me enough to write this in a summary, because I was REALLY looking forward to this stay and to see the practices they market in play. Especially for the money it costs. One of the things that drew me to this location over other higher priced locations (that likely had much more luxurious accommodations), was the lodge’s involvement with the community….but as far as I could see while there- there wasn’t much of that. The lodge did all of the tours. There were no community walks or cultural shows (as did other lodges - which usually is another way of including communities in benefiting from tourist money). All of the tours were through the lodge and very set. After 1.5 days, we had done 3 out of 4 activities.
- Anna (9/5): Superb -
- Sian (7/5): we really enjoyed our stay, however felt it wasn’t quite worth the price paid. seemed to be legitimately eco friendly. - very friendly and accommodating staff swimming pool could be cleaner
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Tiger Tops Elephant Camp was amazing. Walking through the jungle with the elephants and getting up. Lose and personal with them was an unforgettable experience. We saw rhinoceros on the Jeep Safari. I would highly recommend this experience.
- Deb (10/5): - One of the best experiences of my life! The moment we stepped foot on the grounds, we were very well taken care of. I chose to stay at Tiger Tops because it seemed to be where elephants were treated well, a very important piece for me. The entire experience was phenomenal. The naturalists were outstanding. The food and service was amazing. In addition, they support their community, funding a school and medical clinic! We had multiple encounters with wildlife, sometimes very close and intense! If I could, I’d stay forever!
- Micheline (10/5): - Although it seems initially expensive compared to other lodges in the immediate area, you are not comparing apples with apples. Tharu TigerTops Lodge prices include all meals and all activities, from which you have a very varied choice. In particular these include the famous sundowner where you sit on the riverbank after a tiring day and watch an amazing sunset, and elephants playing and washing themselves in the river as a waiter brings you a beer or a gin & tonic. Definitely the English luxury experience you find only in places like Kenya or Zimbabwe.
The trip guides are very seasoned bird watchers and wildlife experts who will make your trips very successful in finding and observing the rich variety of wildlife in the area adjacent to the Chitwan national park. We never managed to enter the actual national park, however. The most important benefit was that we hardly saw any other tourists and were able to enjoy our safaris far from the tourist crowds of the many Chitwan lodges on the Sauraha side.
Personalized service was at its best. The staff ensures that you are accompanied to and from the lodge in utter comfort, however you come and wherever your next destination may be.
Tents were extremely comfortable, clean and well equipped with comfortable beds and linens. Adjacent bathrooms were also of top cleanliness and comfort.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful staff, food and grounds. Tents basic but lovely and romantic.
