Guest Reviews
- jeffrey (10/5): - The staff and room were excellent
- rahul (10/5): - Good hotel
- Jerome (2/5): - No one available to check in
- Bennie (10/5): Very Presently Surprised - If you are a traveler that is used to scrapping to find affordable accommodations and you put up with mediocre amenities...... so yourself a favor and book a room at the Nordic In. It might... and I stress "MIGHT" be only slightly more that you will pay for what you think is less.... but..... you really should try the Nordic.
Clean?..... absolutely..spic n' span
Comfy Bed? Dang right Goldie Locs. Not too soft, not too hard. It's just right.
Shower? It's a nice hot waterfall. Super great.
Roomy Room? Most definitely. King Bed, two apostropherd sitting chairs, nice table, huge dresser, sift but very adequate lighting,
accessible closet space, lots of room near the sink, comfy big toilet for delicate figured people like me... and with all of that, still pent of floor space.
Plus the room is very nicely decorated with local photos, beautiful wall coverings.... and the pillows... YES! PLENTIFUL AND VERY COMFORTABLE.!!
Too to it all off, the ceiling fan gives the traveler complete control over their environment. Again, do yourself a favor.... get a reservation at the Nordic.... treat yourself to a bit of 5 star luxury at an economy price.
Nice young folks at the desk too.
Sincerely Yours,
Very Pleasantly Surprised.
- Stephen (8/5): - It was a clean room very small bathroom
- Kyle (8/5): Family friendly pleasant stay - Although July is still a little warm there was no air conditioning. It wasn’t bad. Very clean and update d some. Updated bathroom. Nice little place to stay and while you’re there, check out handlebars and the woodfired pizza place. They were amazing.
- Kent (10/5): - Great in town option with all the basic amenities you would need. Special call out to the staff who helped me by mailing me my toiletries bag back to me that I left behind.
- jennifer (8/5): - No remote so couldnt use TV
- Sarah (10/5): - Clean and safe. Walkable to many restaurants downtown!
- cristina (10/5): - Good
- Robert (10/5): - Nice
- Milton (6/5): - Very small place
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Property outside was very dumpy we were worried inside was going to be bad but we were pleasantly surprised. Very clean! Gals were pleasant checking us in at the gas station down the street and the gentleman offered us coffee no charge at the gas station when we checked out. Overpriced for amenities since there were none. Very remote area so I suppose I shouldn’t complain.
- Lizbeth (6/5): - Check in was quick and easy! Front desk was friendly, beds were more comfortable than previous places we have stayed at. Some of our towels had what looked like make up stains on them which was disappointing. Overall, not bad for the price though and you can’t beat the views surrounding you!
- Darin (8/5): - Great little spot
- davidfT2078RW (10/5): Stay in silverton prospector - Rooms aren’t the best but they are clean and the views outside are amazing. Lady in the front office is super nice and always helpful. Would definitely recommend staying here if you’re ever passing though. For a small town it’s a nice hotel.
- Ronald (8/5): - It looked like a rat hole at first and my wife she would pay for another hotel, just anything else please. I said, let’s not judge a book by its cover, at least men are around doing improvements.
Inside, the room was nice, clean and comfortable. As good as any mid priced room anywhere. Stay was fine, slept well.
- Helene (10/5): - Prospector Motel is rather old, but this is not necessarily negative. First of all, it is affordable while hardly anything else is in Silverton. The rooms are spacious (all of them have 2 Queen size beds), well lit and equipped with fridge and microwave. Very clean environment. Very comfortable bed. I really enjoyed my stay.
- Federico (8/5): - Needs last minute accommodation I was a bit apprehensive but the room was very clean no bed bugs and the staff was great
- Richard (10/5): - This was a very last minute booking for me and I had to find a place that was pet friendly. I found the Prospector and hit "book" the day before I was to arrive. There weren't many options in Silverton, in fact this is the only one I could find on such short notice. When I actually saw the property I wasn't super impressed and wondered what it was gonna be like inside. I gotta tell you like my momma did "don't judge a book by its cover". When I opened the door to my room I was shocked.....spotless. It was so super clean and I couldn't have been more pleased. Who would have thought that I would have liked this place so much. I was only there for a night but if you are looking for a room thats clean and in town, this would be a great place to start. Thanks Ya'll
- Teresa (6/5): - It was convenient to Silverton. But the shower floods the bathroom.
- Sally (8/5): - It was ok
- Jason (10/5): - Always clean and always easy to work with because we typically come in late to register.
- David (10/5): Charming, clean, newly renovated Silverton motel - This motel is nicely renovated, with a few changes still needed, but definitely going in the right direction! Need to have recycling cans somewhere on the property, that's important.
- John (6/5): - Had to go offsite to check in, deadbolt did not work and as we were the only room occupied did not provide feeling of safety
- Pauline (8/5): Prospector Motel - All rooms are ground level, walk in showers make it easier for older or mobility challenged individuals.
Only complaint is room was too small for 2 full-sized beds .
Rooms have been renovated and clean.
- alice (8/5): - Didn't know that breakfast was included. Found out when we checked in. Took awhile to figure out the 2 remote controls for the tv. Phone call to the phone # provided, left a message & they never called back. We finally figured it out. Room was a nice surprise. Very clean and fresh.
- bennett (2/5): They won’t get another penny of my money! - My worst experience ever.
There is no onsite office. You just drive a mile down the road to check in, or to talk to anyone if you have an issue.
I was here for work, and their wifi was not working I called several times. They said they were going to come down and reset it, but that never happened. Myself and my wife called several times, left several messages and no one ever called us back
The next morning I called hotels.com, and they were zero help. As I was loading up to leave a young lady showed up with the same wifi code, that did not work from the day before..
I ended up having to call my back to get my $933.00 back.
Hotels .com offered nothing
I lost 2 days pay to inconsiderate, disrespectful people with no integrity what so ever.
Do yourself a favor and do not waste your time and money staying here.
- Peter (4/5): - Good location but no chairs or table in room. No privacy as only window on public sidewalk on the main street. Paper thin walls. Heard neighbor’s TV all night long. Housekeeping did very good job. Stayed three nights. Rates too high for what you get. Would not recommend.
- Walter (8/5): - Great place to stay in Silverton, clean and quiet. Only complaint is that the mattress is memory foam and it is not very comfortable.
- Linda (10/5): - From the outside it doesn’t look like much. But the rooms are wonderful. Clean, great beds. You can tell it’s been recently updated. Bathroom was big! Lots of in room amenities
- Bridget (4/5): There has to be something better - just expensive for what you get.
- Kenn (8/5): - Clean room and friendly service.
- Chad (10/5): - Old school motel.
- Janis (8/5): - Clean, quiet, centrally located
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No
- Paul T (8/5): - No
- Keith (4/5): How desperate are you for a room? - There is no air conditioning and it is mid-August with temperatures in the 80's. Being from the deep south, we are accustomed to heat, but we also have a contraption called an air conditioner. We had to open the windows to try and stay comfortable. However the garbage can sitting in front of our room filled the room with sour garbage odor. Over priced, and would be considered a "cheap motel" anywhere else in America. This room was a luxury price for much less than Motel 6 quality! In hindsight, sleeping in our car would have been preferable. Travellers beware!
- Roy (6/5): It was a roof over our heads..... - Booked our trip last minute so not like I can really complain, however I normally wouldn't pay such a high price for a bargain basement motel. There isn't even an office on site, instead you have to check in to another hotel down the road. This place hands down had the most uncomfortable beds that we've ever slept on, and walls are paper thin so doesn't matter if its traffic out front or neighbors next door you are going to hear it all night long.
- Angel (4/5): - Stayed for 2 nights and at most motels when staying more than 1 night they come clean the room, make the beds, bring clean towels the next day but not here and we paid 2x as much as we did with the previous owner, and he took way better care of us! Kind of disappointing!
- Valerye (10/5): - Super clean, newly remodeled. Small and cozy.
- Marvin (6/5): - Had no idea that the office was down the street
- Travis (10/5): - Very clean big rooms.
- LittletonCoBillb (4/5): Bare minimalist, including very limited WIFI. Not a good value for the price. - Prospector is the bare minimalist in accommodations in Silverton in summer and
over priced for what you get. We won't be back.
Including the wifi which has very limited bandwidth.
I tried joining a zoom call and constantly got dropped.
Eventually gave up.
It's barely good enough to check your email and that's it.
The bath towels are thin, rough and small, barely good enough to dry you off.
We didn't get any soap. Fortunately we had our own.
On the plus side it was a good sized room and had a good size refrigerator.
The beds were ok but not great. They were a bit unevenly worn.
- codysmom603 (2/5): Awful accommodations - If you don’t want to get any sleep at night, then this is the place for you. The mattresses were the absolute worst we have ever slept on! There are only 2 lamps with 25 watt bulbs in the room, so not enough light to read. The TV is a “smart” TV, but there are no directions on how to use it, so we sat in silence in the room. The bath tub is a slippery death trap. The bathroom is barely large enough to turn around in. There is no air conditioning, you’re told to open the window. All this for only $139/night! What a rip off!
- Mainetravler (2/5): Terrible beds. No tv. No AC. - Stayed a night. Old motel that is very worn. It had terrible beds. No AC. Rooms are dark and old. Door handles didn’t work half the time, from the inside or outside. Locks were difficult to lock. This is definitely a motel of last resort…. Look for a better option.
- Sandra (8/5): - No frills but it was clean and comfortable and served its purpose. No complaints at all.
- Randy (6/5): - It was a pretty basic hotel. Not bad, but I'd just call it a place to sleep in an emergency.
- Mich (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay at Prospector Motel. We stayed 2 nights. The room was clean, dated, and fairly comfortable. Bed squeaked quite badly but was comfortable when sleeping. The TV worked. There is coffee in the room. Plus a terrific breakfast offered down the street at a sister location: fresh coffee, juice boxes, milk boxes, a selection of mini cereal boxes, fresh bananas, packaged muffins and such. With a few locations claiming they cannot deliver promised breakfasts during Covid, this motel came through beautifully. Friendly, accommodating employees.
- Michelle (8/5): Clean, Nice little motel. Breakfast provided. - We enjoyed our stay at Prospector Motel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean and simple, nice added bonus of continental breakfast down the road. Might need to sleep with the window open as there is no AC, there is a fan in the room. All the necessities in a great location!
- Bap (6/5): - Easy in and out. Had to go a couple blocks to get a key & Check-in. WiFi was not very good at all.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Expect a very basic motel room- similar to 1950s style. Old furniture, thin walls, hard bed. Way over-priced because lodging in Silverton is so limited. On the plus side, the heat was good, satellite tv was good, breakfast had lots of choices and an excellent breakfast pizza slice.
Wifi was ok but not for streaming.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Don't park your car.. check in is somewhere else - The location is great, right in town. There was no one in the office. There was a note on the door saying to go to another hotel to check in. There was a half roll of toilet paper in the room. Thankfully, we had our own. The pillows ( 2 for a double bed) were as flat as can be. We didn't sleep well. The view is beautiful. Liked the celling fan.
- Shelley (10/5): - Our stay was amazing! Staff was very helpful and pleasant they made us feel right at home.
- Ionus (8/5): - Great beds. Comfortable. Our short stay was enjoyable and the breakfast was phenomenal.
- Brian (6/5): - Needs serious updating. But bed was comfortable.
- Denise (8/5): - We had a great time and our motel was clean and comfy even for an older place. I would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No frills place to stay in downtown Silverton. Other hotels in town were way over priced, so we picked this one. They have recently updated most of the rooms, and everything was nice and clean. The owners handle several hotels, so you need to to to a different location to get your keys, etc. and get some coffee or packaged muffins in the am. Only complaint is the bed pillows . They were like flat rocks. I had to pull out a soft jacket to put under my head so I could at least get some sleep. Don't look for great service, or even a blow dryer...but it was fine for one night.
- Jodie (8/5): - This a great location in Silverton. Checkin was quick, and we were on the trails in no time
- Kenny (10/5): - Nice comfortable clean room, centrally located
- Barbara (6/5): Silverton get away - This is an older building. Our room had 2 queen beds, decorated cute with a log style desk and bears on the sheets. It was clean and neat. We requested a fan, we like it cold. So at night we opened the windows, and had the ceiling fan and floor fan going. That was real nice. Things that didn't bother us but should be fixed: when flushing the toilet it kept running till you wiggle the handle. And if you took a shower, you had to be careful, it was so slippery and had very little flat surface (tub / shower combo) so you couldn't really move your feet around & wash your hair. But for a inexpensive room, it was great, and very roomy. Close for our off road daily drives in the mountains. We were room #1, right behind the office. However, need to know you don't check in at this locations office, but that was easy enough to drive down a block and check in at the other red motel & gas station. not a problem at all. No frills, but clean and cute.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Looks can be a little deceiving. Old hotel but had really nice, reasonably priced renovated rooms. Will definitely be back!
- jetset114 (6/5): Silverton Sleep - My husband and I had planned on staying in another town but accommodations were full. I called the Prospector and a nice female employee said they had a room available. She was very helpful and reserved the room for me over the phone. I was a little nervous because I hadn’t seen any reviews but we were desperate.
Upon arrival, I found our key at the office. There were several guys hanging outside but found that they were just guest who had come in from riding ATV’s earlier. The room was #12. Large but dated and basic but for the price and last minute, it was fine. We found it all to be clean and everything was in working order. It was also quiet through the night. I would stay there again.
- Donald (10/5): - I have stayed here 3 times. Never disappointed, great location. People you meet are very cool.
- Dale (8/5): nice - Basics were all there.
- Gregory (10/5): Nice stay at the Prospector - Room was very nice and clean. Check in was easy with requested hair dryer waiting. Very pleased with this property.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was clean and just what we needed, a bed, a toilet and a shower :)
- duke44 (4/5): - The place is old and unkempt. At least it was clean and quiet
- Jane (2/5): - VERY EXPENSIVE, for a Very old, run down room, uncomfortable bed, door would not lock/unlock, no blow drier, thermostat didn’t work, had to check in 2 blocks down, not quiet.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - TV did not work. It would not turn on. It was on the shelf and did not come on
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very simple motel room with basic amenities. The shower had lukewarm water which was disappointing after a long day of skiing. Otherwise it’s located right in town so easy to walk to get food.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Easy check in, parking right at room, and good price for a basic, but clean room.
- JocelynTT (2/5): Worst place I've ever stayed. - Hotel in disrepair, owners don't care. Shower is standing water, won't drain, no air circulation, large crack under the door, BUGS. Owners could of cared less that the motel was in complete disrepair.
- Douglas (10/5): Hotel in Silverton - Theyb have rennovated the property nicely.
- Lisa (10/5): - We reserved the Prospector Property. The season for the town of Silverton ended the weekend before our stay of 10/18 and most stores/restaurants closed the weekend before our stay. We had to go to the sister property the Triangle Motel to check-in. The checkin gal said only one other reservation had been made at the Prospector and she switched our reservation to Triangle Motel so we could be closer to the breakfast at that location. The Triangle Motel may have been newly remodeled because everything appeared new and/or well taken care of. Very comfortable and clean.
- Jccarlin (8/5): Great value for price - Room 6 was a good basic room for 4 days base in a fun town. Across the street are fun vehicles for rent! Good food within walking distance and beautiful views all over town. This is where the wild west was created!!
- Fred w (4/5): Way past it’s prime - No one was ever in attendance in the office from the time we got there to the time we left. Our keys were taped to the office door when we arrived. It then took several minutes to get the lock to open on unit #8 and I was almost ready to give up. I then made the mistake of locking the deadbolt because it took several minutes to get it open when I was ready to leave. Everything in the bathroom was extremely worn and dirty with the linoleum curling up in the doorway
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good value for money, excellent location for renting UTV's.
- Colorado (4/5): - Unsafe electrical outlet in shower, floors sweep real bad , very small , gap under the exterior door
- Bill W J (10/5): Silverton - First off an Amazing staff that accommodated our very late arrival. The town was breath taking and everyone was very friendly. The room was great, the beds are a little hard. Check out is very simple as is check in.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The beds were terrible, pillows worse. TV from the 70's.
- Ray (8/5): Good Location - It served it's purpose - clean room, shower, and bed. The motel is a bit outdated, and the price was a little high for the Silverton area. The staff were friendly. The breakfast was ok (pizza. yogurt, bagels). The coffee was good. The only issue is that staff could be a little better organized with monitoring the counter. The location to town is excellent.
- southsidehog (10/5): Location, price and cleanliness - We stayed two nights. Room was good size and very clean. This motel doesn't look like much from the outside but carpet looks new and we had no complaints. Great rate. Easy walk to everything in Silverton. If there was anything at all negative, it was that check in was a block away at their sister property. Triangle Motel. I suggest they inform you of that at reservation so you don't have to backtrack. After riding a motorcycle all day, I was just ready to check in. Also, request a blow dryer at check in, ladies. All in all, a great stay.
- jeffreyn967 (10/5): Great place to stay - We only planned on staying in Silverton one night but we ended up staying three nights at this motel. We felt very comfortable here. The room was clean and very quiet. The owner was very friendly and helpful, made you feel at home. Don't expect this to be a fancy place, it's a basic room but it all added to the charm and fun of staying in Silverton. Four wheelers and side by sides are going up and down the streets!
- ddknip (8/5): Nice place - The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. Very quiet area, walking distance to all the shops in town. Wonderful people at the hotel and around town. Great sunsets on the monument above the hotel.
- 510edw (10/5): "Dirt Biking Silverton" - (See YouTube video by same name). Andy and the Prospector Motel were the perfect hosts for my son, a buddy and me as we spent a week in the mountains above Silverton. Andy could not have been more accommodating, and the other guests were equally friendly. The rooms are basic with no frills, however everything we needed was provided. The price was an excellent value, with access to the town always a very short walk.
- 146julianj (10/5): great room in beautiful location - Rooms are basic but very good: clean, comfy bed, decent size, DirecTV, etc. Andy is extremely helpful, and friendly but not intrusive. Silverton is a great town to visit. Have been several times and always stay at the Prospector. Highly recommend. Only upgrade I would suggest is faster wifi (at least for the room I'm in).
- FredG67 (10/5): Best room I've ever snagged last minute! - On a Jeep/hike/skateboard trip in July 2016 where I had been staying in Leadville for over a week I happened upon some very lovely ladies climbing a ridiculously steep 13er. Stopped and ate lunch and chatted with them when they started asking me where I was from, what I had planned, etc. They all got very excited at finding out I was travelling alone and could go anywhere and do anything I wanted...so the suggestions started flying. I hadn't been to the southwest part of the state in a very long time and had already been thinking of trekking to Silverton/Ouray for some Jeep time there. Their enthusiasm over this sealed the deal. The next day I packed up camp and headed south through Wolf Creek, Pagosa Springs, up through Durango and into Silverton....with no place to stay or camp planned. The campgrounds looked packed with RV...ugh...and I didn't really feel like driving around find a spot in the woods, so....I pulled over and stopped at the Prospector. No one was in the office, door was locked and there was a post-it note on the window with a phone number to call if you needed help. I called and got Andy whom I found out was the owner/manager.....and a transplant from Chicago! I think I caught him headed to dinner but he came back and set me up with a room on the spot. Andy was very cordial and helpful...as well as talkative, lol, but I enjoy hearing peoples stories and enjoy interacting with locals when I travel, so I found it quite nice. After I paid my $50 even for the room (number 4) Andy informed me that the door was open, they never lock anything because there is never any crime, and that the key was on the bed. And if I wanted coffee there weren't any of those coffee pouches in the room, because Andy fills the coffee pot with coffee every day....just add water and turn it on! The room was much as I expected for a mountain town with tons of tourists and costing $50. It was perfect for me, bed, very large bathroom actually, and a tv so small I had to put my glasses on to see it....but I don't watch tv anyway, so who cares. Everything appeared clean to me, even though dated and a few details could have been fixed up a bit, but nothing that affected my stay, it was all cosmetic. Being July at 8,000 feet or so I didn't have any need for heat....or ac....not even sure if there was ac, so I can't attest to how well that worked. I had dinner and a couple whiskeys at a local restaurant that evening, then drove around checking out lots of other Jeeps and the town before turning in. I sleep like a log in general but no traffic or other commotion disturbed me during my stay that night and I got up ready to hit the trails....after some of that coffee and another shower, just because sometimes I wind up pitching a tent in the middle of nowhere and might not get another for a minute! Check out was another nice convo with Andy and then I was out to the mountains again. The price and the way Andy treated me would bring me back again if I need a real bed and shower in next time I'm in Silverton.
- 426shellyr (10/5): Great stay - Not your luxury hotel but just what we wanted!! A very clean room, super friendly owner, Andy. He is there to help with whatever you need. Stayed last year also. If we come back that way , we will stay again.
- DavidF262 (8/5): Plain but fine - This motel is a bit homely and plain but the rooms are clean, the bed is very good, bath is fine. Really no problems. Andy, the manager, is great which seems important somehow. Its all very casual but thats the way it is in Silverton.
There is nothing more to say here, there is no pool, no breakfast. Just a plain decent room.
- 594cyndia (10/5): Stay Here!!! - "My friend Carole and I traveled to Silverton together, which had been on the bucket list for quite some time. We decided all we had to do was get in the car and LEAVE! We are so happy we did – it was all we expected and MORE!
Nothing, no words, no descriptions, could adequately describe our experience, of which Andy Hanahan, the gracious proprietor of Prospector Motel, was a vital component. He acted as our concierge, confidant, and adviser. Actually, if it hadn’t been for Andy, we would not have been able to ride the Durango-Silverton Train, which was a very delightful experience (again, no words).
Andy is the Heart of this cute, quaint, comfortable and secure haven of rest. He is just incredible and he loves his town and the motel, which is demonstrated by his “energizer bunny” activity around the place.
Silverton is very charming and everyone is very eager to answer any questions you might have about anything at all. My friend and I had some dietary restrictions and the Brown Bear, as well as the Bent Elbow, were very accommodating. We aren’t exactly foodies, so we didn’t really try any other restaurants, but there are quite a few to choose from.
We highly recommend making the trip to Silverton and staying at the Prospector. It is the ideal home away from home, nestled away in big pillows that are the San Juan Mountains.

- bcwill10 (2/5): Owner is nice, but this place needs a serious upgrade - We stayed in room #1 and the bathtub was disgusting. Mold and stains. We could not use it and we ended up taking sponge baths. The room had no lamps or nightstands--only overhead lighting that was way too bright. At check-in, we were asked "What level of housekeeping do you want?" The room faced the street and the sidewalk was inches away from our room. We never opened the blinds. Too dark and unkept for us. Like a Motel 1-if there is such a thing. The wifi was intermittent the first day and after that was very slow and we were in the room nearest the router. Slow like it took minutes to load a page. We would have gone to another place, but Silverton does not have a lot of choices and every place was booked solid every night we were there.
- nycmbx (10/5): Value value vakue - What an amazing town and I don't know anywhere this beautiful that you could stay for this price. Andy, the owner is a nice guy Who has lived there for a number of years and is always willing to help or guide your adventure for the day. He's also very flexible and willing to work with you on your study/travel plans. It is not the Ritz Carlton, so if you're looking for something fancy, this is not your place. If you are looking for a base for all of your adventures in the area, this is your spot. Unlike a Number of other places to stay in the area, there are no steps to walk up, so you can back your car right up to your front door and unload. Traveling with kids it made things much easier! Thanks andy and I will be back!
- angiem703 (2/5): Family Vacation - Wouldn't stay there again. Strangely loud. No screens on the windows so bugs bugs bugs. Clean for as clean as old and out dated could be. And not outdated in a historical sense. We had three rooms and we were all thankful the short stay was over.
On the good side, the manager was very very nice and accomadating.
Here is a look into our less than private room, lol. And the beautiful church from our bathroom window.
- Eric308Madison_WI (10/5): The best in town! - Why pay up and stay at a stuffy "B&B"...stay here and meet a real owner who cares. Andy makes it fun and that is so cool. Walk around Silverton and explore some local pubs and local pubs. After seeing some local pubs you might want to take a nap in your wonderful king size at the Prospector.
