Guest Reviews
- Martin (7/5): Clean & accommodating. Do try it out, but don't expect 4* standard accommodation. Food excellent - Dinner: Really good; the spicy Korean chicken is to be recommended. It's on the menu as a starter but they offered to do it as a main course for me when I asked.
Breakfast was also really good with lots of options.
Location: Close to the village which has local shops, pubs, etc.
Staff: Very accommodating Room: Really small; a bit cramped. Feels very much like student accommodation. Bathroom is tight on space including small wash-hand basin, limited shower space.
Mice? When the occupant of the upstairs room arrived and banged the bedroom door shut there was an all mighty slithering, scratching and kerfuffle with some things, mice presumably, running across the ceiling and within the void 'tween the rooms.

- Guest (5/5): Pay for what you get - Location - close to pubs / shops & secure behind barriers
Cheap to book Small room, dated bathroom, not overly clean
Shared areas with a wedding

- Kenneth (7/5): It was ok, but not worth the money, I have stayed in more modern hotels for less. - The breakfast was great The rooms are very dated, no hairdryer in room but one was sent to the room after I told reception, my daughter had her room changed due to pubic hairs in her bed. The bed we had was a small double or you could say a large single, not a full double as expected.
- JJ (7/5): Decent room, warm, well equipped if not a tad small. Fine for a nights stay in lovely surroundings - Converted coach house building in the grounds of a stately home. The room was clean, well lit, decently equipped and the bed was nice and soft plus coffee making facilities, a TV and several electric sockets available. Room itself plus bathroom were a bit on the small side and I did find the absence of a bedside table to be a bit strange. Also, the room was a tad noisy as can be the case with thin walled conversions, and I could hear a noisy conversation next door, though not an issue once they went to bed.
- Jenni (6/5): Was fine for one night while we attended an event - Check in was friendly and efficient Room was small, no bath only shower, breakfast was limited
- Guest (6/5): Good place for a place to sleep and a great breakfast - The breakfast Small rooms, rooms dated and could do with a revamp, to help to modern day standards
- Emma (9/5): -
- Edward Midgley (8/5): Fantastic value for money, sadly you've probably missed it. - It's fantastic value for money. £75 for B&B in south Bucks is unbeatable. OK, it's a conference centre venue in the main, so the rooms a very basic and in need to refurbishment. Unfortunately it's being sold and shuts end of October 2025. Breakfast is also great. Unbeatable value for money. Staff are lovely too. Grounds are stunning. It's in desperate need to renovation (coach house)
- Theresa (9/5): Beautiful location - A very nice cooked breakfast, and a very good choice of pastries and cold meats. Cold plates! I like to put my cooked breakfast on a hot plate, otherwise it was excellent.
All was good with the bedroom. The bathroom could be a little cleaner.
Shower and toilet let it down some.

- Guest (7/5): - Buffett breakfast is a bit tired and is the food fresh every day ... no
- John (9/5): -
- David (7/5): -
- Robert (8/5): - Enjoyed our stay. Friendly staff. Fantastic breakfast. Room on the small side, but comfortable.
- Peter (7/5): -
- Steve (8/5): OK - Location, bed comfortable. Not a criticism, but it felt like a Conference Hotel. We were not informed about breakfast service times on checking in (we arrived at around 22:30). When we went for breakfast at 09:35 we were told that there was no food available, couldn’t even offer any toast as they had ran out of bread. Quite disappointing.
On check out, the reception staff offered to source some food, but we declined (didn’t want to cause a fuss)
- Marjon (7/5): -
- Judy (3/5): - Lovely staff
Beautiful outside facilities The room was so small. Bed against the wall. No bedside table. A real squeeze. Bathroom tiny. Generally run down.
- Guest (8/5): -
- Peggy (7/5): Krappe kamer maar mooi kader - De rustige locatie en niet meer ver van Windsor Castle. Krappe kamer maar netjes. De bar was heel duur, nodigt niet uit om te blijven gangen.
- John (9/5): -
- Tony (8/5): An enjoyable stay, would use again if in the area. - The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was great. The bedroom was small but clean and everything worked.
- Guest (3/5): Disappointing - Breakfast was delish, frequently saw the chef topping it up with freeing cooked breakfast.
The location is beautiful, Great Missenden is a beautiful village, grounds of the hotel and beautiful too. .
- Agnew (6/5): - The location was perfect. Good price. Enjoyed breakfast. Friendly staff. No heating, room was freezing at night. No electric sockets. Only 1 chair between 2 in the bedroom.
- Jessica (6/5): Lovely staff and beautiful area - but dated - Lovely bar and grounds and the staff were lovely and so helpful. Views were amazing and walks around were lovely too. The breakfast wasn’t great and the bathroom of the room was dirty and very dated.
- John (9/5): -
- Nicola (8/5): -
- Mark (4/5): - The location The rooms were outdated. Very difficult to find the room in the dark for the first time
- Richard (8/5): -
- Mollief1995 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melanie (7/5): Good -
- Helen (9/5): Lovely room, beautiful grounds! - Lovely place, in lovely grounds. Room was lovely if a little dated. Clean and comfortable overlooking a pond. Ate in the garden which is extensive and lovely. Food was really good quality and staff were very friendly. Hear that it is due to close later in 2025, a real shame!
- Georgia (1/5): Awful - Not much at all other than the fact that it was cheap.. but I guess that explains why it was so awful. A perfect example of you pay for what you get. The hotel had a weird smell like window's hadn't been opened ever. Stale and stuffy, a bit like an old people's home.
The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in in my life and when mentioned to the receptionist on check out her reply was "oh, was it the springs?" as though she had heard it before..
DO NOT STAY HERE - would be more comfortable to sleep in your car!
- Natalie (7/5): Good -
- Kmsw6 (6/5): Pleasant - Location was good and plenty of parking Small room. Dated decor and no aircon. Breakfast very poor. Hotel looks very tired and basic inside.
- Charlotte (7/5): Absolutely fine and good location - Location and beautiful setting. Basic but comfortable. Quite pricey for the basic nature.
- Christine (9/5): A relaxing weekend in a beautiful location. - The location is wonderful. The view from the bedroom window onto the ponds and trees was lovely.
The grounds are well cared for and varied from lawn to wood and stream.
The staff were excellent. Special thanks to Sean for his attention on Saturday evening.
The Roald Dahl museum is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Nothing
- Anuoluwapo (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Staff very welcoming. Very picturesque location. Nil.
- Janice (7/5): Ok for a one night stay- nothing more - Location and the grounds Exceptionally small rooms in need of refurbishing. Door locks difficult and confusing . 10.00 is too early for a checkout. Cleaners were outside ready to clean the rooms .
- Oluwatoyin (7/5): I had a peaceful night - I love the cleanliness The location is farther than envisaged
- Stephen (7/5): Good -
- Walton (9/5): Superb -
- Nicola (8/5): 5 day stay at Missenden Abbey Conference &
Hotel - Overall experience was very good, really comfortable bed, good breakfast. Very professional and friendly staff, in particular Rebecca at reception who was most helpful when one of our party was feeling very unwell. Everything was good. Rooms are small, however this is understandable given the buildings history and we knew this prior to booking.
- Zoe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (6/5): Acceptable for one or two nights - Plenty of choices but quite commercial Directions as to where to go .
Rooms and beds on the small side
- Shields (6/5): Pleasant -
- Caroline (3/5): Poor - Nice surroundings. Helpful member of staff on reception who dealt with my complaint well and moved to another room for the second night. Room was a totally unacceptable standard. A list of complaints about security, cleanliness, bathroom in particular was disgusting which I will add photos. A lot more than I can show here. I would like a refund for my first night as I couldn't have a shower or use the basin and the door to the outside was rotten and had massive gaps all around the bottom. The complimentary toiletries were a half used bottle of body wash! Kettle had to boil on the floor. When you turned the tap on it smelt of bad drainage. Even in the second room, I had to keep turning the shower off as the shower tray was full and the water wasn't draining away properly. I think it's in need of a total revamp and was certainly not worth what I paid for the room!
- Rachel (8/5): It was a relaxing stay, with lots of little touches and celebration of its uniqueness. - Gorgeous building, lots of character. Great location. Quiet room with lovely view. Amazing grounds. Would benefit from a few minor upgrades and I found breakfast layout a little intimidating for people who would rather sit quietly alone!
- Helen (9/5): Superb - Loved the grounds and peaceful atmosphere.
Only one night there but would stay again
- Cameron (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (9/5): Great scenic location and historic building - Breakfast buffet included and good choice
- Colm (6/5): Great budget option with hard workingstaff - A few days before arriving at the property we were emailed to say there was an event on at the premises so half of it was shut off and we wouldn't be able to get food or drink service. The staff were very helpful and courteous and its obviously not their fault but we ended up having to leave the premises to get dinner. The venue was fine, the fact there was no offer of a rate reduction to cover the fact that half the venue was off limits was a bit disappointing.
- Gijsbertus (8/5): Very good -
- Amy (1/5): Disappointing - It was clean. I paid for a double room and expect the pictures shown to represent this however my room only had a 3/4 size bed, not a double and it was pushed up against the wall. The room looked like a single room that they had squeezed a slightly bigger bed in and I feel it has been miss sold
- Anonymous (8/5): Really enjoyed my stay. Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. - Good quality hot food in the cooked breakfast. A nice variety of cereal and fruit to choose from. Toast slices could have been better by simply using full size slices of bread.
- Rod (7/5): It was okay. - Good location, pleasant staff. Very dated, it’s currently for sale and will close in November if not bought. If it is bought it would need to be refurbished before I would use it again.
- Richard (7/5): A good place for a night or two. Lovely surroundings. - Location and surroundings are great. Rooms are basic but fine for a short stay. Breakfast is nice, and evening meal food is pretty ok pub style grub. On a sunny evening it’s gorgeous sitting outside with a drink. The walls of the coach house rooms are very thin. Hear everything.
- Gary (5/5): Passable -
- Andy9170 (1/5): Never judge a book by its cover - The road out of there Looked nice on booking.com but far from it. Very dirty rooms when to the toilet when we go in our room to be greeted with a turd. The shower was dirty and very small. the bed was a small double some food wad left in the room and I went to the bar for a drink to be told we couldn't have a drink as its closed for a function. Save your money and stop elsewhere. I would have to be paid to stop there again
- Sarah (8/5): Good location and value for money - I booked with no problems and all was in place when I arrived. It's exceedingly hot at the moment and the rooms could do with fans. I like the place and it is very convenient when teaching at Missenden and I am sad to hear it will be closing later this year I its current format. Breakfast is always good and this time I had an evening meal as well and it was pleasant. As breakfast is included it is good value for money. Staff were welcome and helpful. The decor is dated and tired in places and the bathrooms need updating and improving. The rooms in the Coach House are small but for short stays are just fine. Don't forget to register your car within 15 minutes of your arrival as parking rules are strictly enforced.
- Debra (9/5): Pleasant but mattress to small for the bed kept falling down the side - Great location Self service breakfast used to be waitress service
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Shane (3/5): Great first impression but lack of detail shown as was checked into a non made up room and expected to wai t until clean - Frontage of property outstanding Rooms small and housekeeping very poor
Lack of staff and meals cancelled as a result
- Cranwell (8/5): I absolutely loved this hotel and will not hesitate to stay there again. - Breakfast was excellent - very well cooked and a diverse selection.
Staff very friendly and willing to help
Location - stunning - historic and beautiful - great position for accessing my work commitments
Room - clean and quiet - all you need The bathroom was clean - showing signs of needing renewing, but for the price I have no complaints
- Thacker (8/5): Very good - Wondered setting.
Very relaxing. Bathroom very basic and small.
Shower needs updating.
- Glen (8/5): Very pleasant. - The price and location. Staff were friendly and there was a good breakfast The rooms are on the small size. Ok for us as we were only there for 1 night.
- Anonymous (7/5): Peaceful, tranquil, friendly and the perfect location for visiting family - General Location and grounds, staff, peaceful and tranquil room location and breakfasts could not be faulted. The bed was so small, possibly a small double rather than a double and the mattress very lumpy and uncomfortable. Not really suitable for two people. This is our only criticism though we would not hesitate to visit again if we could secure a bigger bed.
- Happywanderer (9/5): Superb -
- Pauline (8/5): A place where you can feel special and important - The room was fine as we just needed it to sleep and shower.
Our room included breakfast which was excellent quality and delicious. There were options for a Continental breakfast, cereal, and all the ingredients for a cooked breakfast or even beans on toast.
The staff were amazing and always had a smile. It was a busy weekend because of a prom as well as a wedding. This did not affect the way we were dealt with, we were made to feel just as important.
Parking is ample and the grounds are beautiful, a real manor type building, mainly well kept.
The flower beds were beautiful and well maintained. We did have to ask for clean towels and we had to make our own beds.
There was also some kind of leak behind the toilet and this affected the flush
- Samantha (3/5): Lovely location, breakfast was okay. Such a shame we couldn’t sleep in such a small bed. - Beautiful grounds and great location Very very old, tired, small room and bathroom. Very small uncomfortable bed. Very small bathroom, shower filled with water after a short time. No way to watch TV in bed, as was on the side.
- Nayeem (10/5): Exceptional - It's was beautiful place to stay N/A
- Bryan (8/5): Comfortable, would be excellent with a little updating. - Fine building and grounds. Tired room decor and bathroom in need of TLC
- John (3/5): Poor -
- John (3/5): Poor -
- Richard (8/5): Excellent value in a high priced region - In this area of the country you will be hard pressed to find anywhere that gives the excellent value for money that Missenden Abbey provides. Yes the rooms are a bit snug, but the gardens and staff are welcoming. Nothing
- Graham (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (1/5): Rude staff and outdated - Central in Great Missenden Disorganised and very poor communication. Arrived after check-in time to be blocked getting into the building as you can't check in during weddings? Eventially managed to get someone to give us a key outside in the car park so we could get ready to go to our event.. Went for breakfast around 9:40 only to be told it finished at 9:30, which obviously we didn't know as hadn't been properly checked in. Rooms are basic, outdated, and hot with no air-conditioning. Apparently, we (and others) shouldn't have booked as they don't allow people not from a wedding to stay. Not sure why we had to suffer for their mistakes. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
- Jane (7/5): Good -
- Ghislaine (8/5): Very good - Location and value for money Small double bed
- Cranwell (7/5): Good - The hotel is in a lovely location and the staff friendly and helpful. It is priced correctly - free WiFi, breakfast included, which was substantial and delicious
- Edward (6/5): Pleasant - It's geared for conference stays and overnight wedding parties. It's fine for what it is. The Abbey and grounds themselves are stunning. Nothing, as long as you know what you're getting.
- Elaine (9/5): Superb - Lovely location in it's own grounds. Enjoyable breakfast but stone cold plates which was a disappointing.
- Bernadeta (9/5): Superb -
- Victoria (8/5): Ideal for a night to get rest before work. Nice breakfast. Friendly staff. Nice setting. - I like being in the ground floor with the pond outside.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful scenery and building, staff friendly, bed comfy as I slept well, breakfast was plenty, shower was just warm and not much pressure but I did not get spoil my stay, I enjoyed my stay and would stay again and recommend to others.
- Hannah (8/5): Adequate facilities but lovely grounds and location. - Location was good & bed was comfy Was a bit tired looking and breakfast was weird sitting with guests on the morning after a wedding & would significantly benefit from a proper coffee/tea/hot choc machine not flasks. Felt a bit like queuing in a college canteen.

- Harwinder (9/5): Superb -
- Rosalie (4/5): Disappointing -
- Graham (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (7/5): Very comfortable bed - A brilliant breakfast selection It would have been so much better if it was hot as opposed to barely warm
- Andrew (7/5): Basic but in a fabulous location. - A very good breakfast and a beautiful location. Rooms were quite small for the cost of the stay.
