Guest Reviews
- Tony (10/5): Place to be - Best hostel in Lonnie, came back often Can’t stay forever
- Muhammet (4/5): Disappointing -
- Livio (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jonna (1/5): Very bad expiring - The staff was friendly The place was filthy and broke down, the showers didn’t work, cockroaches were in the bedroom.
The kitchen was dirty and you had to clean every single plate before use.
- Leandro (2/5): Bad - The hostel was really dirty and the shower and bathrooms were in really bad conditions
- Shaufi (6/5): Pleasant -
- Michel (10/5): Exceptional - Nice , central and friendly .
- Toby (4/5): - Incredibly noisy, impossible to sleep.
- Shaun (3/5): Glad it's over. - It was cheap . Bookings.com is impossible to contact to change reservations. Deliberately so to avoid issuing refunds. Will never use them again. People shouting into their phones at 11pm outside my room.
- Marnie (3/5): Poor - Good location. The hostel was not clean at all. There was a huge black mould spot above my bed, bathrooms and kitchen were dirty.
- Tashrif (7/5): Good -
- Thomas (1/5): terrible - Nothing This was one of the dirtiest, most disgusting environments I've ever stayed in.. if not the most. Please just spend the extra money and stay somewhere else.
- Phillip (1/5): Cheap and disgusting - Location and Price Seriously dirty - a bandaid in the shower for 3 days - no joke - I can’t understand how there was literally no cleaning of anything in the 4 days I was there
- Shalini (6/5): Pleasant -
- David (9/5): Superb - Everythong was okay, as expected. The washing machine didn't work well for me, I lost $5 on it.
- Rei (7/5): Good - Actually the inside looks old, but outlooks is good. And the shower pleasure is excellent. And also I had good time at the balcony that every room has. Only the kitchen is dirty, not enough spaces to dry dishes for the amount. Or most of people just leave them there, I’m not sure. But the cleaners are coming to clean instead.
- Minh (1/5): Bad - The dirtiest most filthy place that I've been to. Give key but no work so why key?
- Seamus (8/5): Very good - Better than sleeping in a tent on a wooden platform, which is the most important thing. Nothing to complain about, staff were friendly, it was a very cool little building. Would definitely stay there again.
- Valeria (1/5): Bad -
- Mon (1/5): What a dump - this place should be condemned - Nothing about this venue. Absolutely atrocious
No one respected the rules the place was a complete messed as black mould everywhere the places falling apart how it is not condemned I don't know.
I got no sleep in the room I was in I left the room and went into the common area to try to get some shut eye only to then hear music still at 1:00 a.m. and then have backpackers in and out finishing their fruit picking coming in at four A.M.
People are basically living in this space and leave their s*** everywhere and don't care about other people that come and use the rooms are common areas.
I complete dump in my worst experience sleeping somewhere.
Would not recommend whatsoever.
- Heather (9/5): Warm welcome early of official hours and peaceful night little noise from other guests. Facilitiesok -
- Camilia (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, charming building and pleasant staff. Very fair price for the service provided. Good on you, I'll be back! Some customers not respectful of the rules, like not taking care of clean their own shit. Unfortunately, hard for the staff to have a look on everyone, especially at people showing no education. I don't blame the venue as the team try her best. Thanks !
- Kapil (2/5): Very poor -
- Eleanor (6/5): Pleasant - Nice location. Good lounge area and dining. Property was slightly dated with the rooms and kitchen needing some refurbishing. And the equipment in the kitchen was faulty
- Mccormick (8/5): Very good -
- Anterpal (1/5): Bad -
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Nice central and cheap. A few things didn't work well, but it was no big deal
- Philipp (1/5): - - - Smelled like mold. Left immediately.
I was told, the Room was cleaned afterwards. Should be ok by now.
- Letitia (9/5): Superb -
- Mariam (4/5): Cheap accommodation, friendly staff, incredibly unclean. - Cheap accommodation - I guess it’s the main selling point here. Staff were very friendly - it makes me kinda sad to give a poor rating, but it is no reflection of the staff and everything to do with the state of the place. Cleanliness was the biggest issue here. I’ve stayed at many hostels even those at exactly the same price point but this one really took me aback. It’s such a shame since it is a beautiful building with so much potential. I frankly can’t understand how it could be this dirty. Kitchen and dining was horrid-sticky floors and all. Huge hole in the ceiling in the corridor which seems to have been around for a while based on previous reviews. Carpets are very worn out (not asking to have these replaced necessarily but they need a serious deep cleaning). Walls next to my bed had some splatters I tried not to think too much about.
Not sure what’s stopping the hostel from cleaning the facilities and maintaining the place at the bare minimum standard but if it’s $, I’d be more than happy to pay an extra $10 a night and I’m sure many others would as well in order to not feel disgusted by the kitchen and by the idea of having a shower here. It would still be cheap and it’d certainly bring in more business, so please make the investment. I don’t like to leave negative reviews but this really needs to be addressed. I’ve read previous reviews and supposedly there’s been an action plan implemented but it certainly doesn’t look like there’s been any progress.
- Cliona (3/5): Poor - Nothing Run down property
- cyrille (6/5): - Espaces communs sales et délabrés
- Milly (8/5): Overnight stay - Good location for getting into the city, parking outside and who we belive was the owner was very friendly and welcoming. Good for an overnight stop over Few ware and tare marks and could do with a few renovations. Mattresses were a little springy but okay for short term
- Lotti (5/5): Cheap does the job but not the cleanest - Location was good and staff were friendly Was a bit unclean staining on bedding, walls etc. fridge stunk of fish most of the time.
- Imre (1/5): Really REALLY BAD hostel - Close walking distance to inner city Run down building, peeling paint on walls, dirty walls throughout, rotten foul smelling food in kitchen refrigerators, had to bring it to the attention of the part time staff, broken taps, tepid rather than hot water, except in kitchen, but there it was challenging to say the least to turn on!!! From previous reviews this has been an ongoing issue, that has been ignored and not addressed. Gas stove top rings not cleaned or maintained, resulting in most not working, and the few that do needing constant attention to make sure it doesn't go out. The multiple micro wave ovens, all encrusted inside with previous usage food spillage etc.
The dim lighting in the dining room, the lack of adequate heating and the general dirtiness both there and in the reception lounge area does not encourage anyone to relax and linger.
The dorm was a six bunk (three double bunks) but they have capped it to a maximum of three persons. Which was a relief!!
However during the week I was there not once was the room cleaned, and judging by the accumulation of detritus from previous occupants had not been attended to for a very long time!!
Launceston is a very beautiful place and I'm glad I visited.. The accommodation was cheap, but I don't believe this absolves it from having to attend to any of the above.
As an Australian I felt ashamed that the state of the hostel could be seen by anyone as acceptable modus operandi.
One could blame the subpar staff, but I lay the responsibility on the slumlord owner.
I can't see how a health inspector would allow it to operate.
- Markus (2/5): Look for a room somewhere else! - the bed sheets were clean and we had a 4 bed room for ourselves. It was very dirty, the whole property clearly hasn't been cleaned in a while. the showers were disgusting and most of the kitchen as well. Furthermore, the heaters did not work properly and it was rather cold. we left in the morning as soon as possible. Avoid if you can afford it.
- Aidan (5/5): Passable -
- Troncoso (1/5): I would like to finish my stay soon. - Nothing This is the dirtiest place where I have ever been before.
Also, many things were broken as a shower.
Extremely dirty It’s looks like no one clean.
Bathrooms, kitchen, furniture are old, broke and dirty. Bad smells.
I don’t recommend book in this place. The property looks very pretty for outside in pictures but inside is not good.
- Isaac (10/5): Exceptional -
- Niki (7/5): Good -
- Ryan (7/5): Good -
- Sophie (4/5): Disappointing - Not clean
Mold lost of dust and smelled
- Louise (7/5): Good - Interesting architecture, helpful staff and a large kitchen/dining room. Easy walk into town, and ample on street free parking. The bunk beds were adequate and showers had unreliable hot water.
The building has seen better days.
- Amaia (6/5): Pleasant -
- Billy (10/5): Great Staff, Perfect Location! - Perfect location, great staff. Value for money.
- Max (1/5): Don't stay here, spend some more dollars to get a better place - Nothing, everything in a really bad condition Rooms, bathrooms, sooo baddd
- Gav (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jinging (10/5): Exceptional - Everything its good,room,kitchen,reception and location,awesome 👍
- Abdul (8/5): Very good -
- Thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Linna (8/5): Very good - Well equipped kitchen with fridge, toaster, microwave, stoves, cutlery and pots & pans. Good value for money, I extended my stay for a few extra days. Hot showers with good water pressure. Paper towels provided in the bathrooms. Decent communal dining area. About a 20 minute walk into town. Interesting choice of signage, quite aggressive but fits the overall vibe of the hostel! Floor has probably never been vacuumed.
- Joris (4/5): Disappointing -
- Winton (5/5): Good for short stay and budget traveler. - Luckily, we have a room that have heater. It is pretty cold. Lighting in kitchen and communal area are dim; very hard to see. They respond well to my request for a lower floor. Wifi is weak. The place will look much better if they fix it up.
- Sophie (1/5): Bad -
- Yu (10/5): If you wanna stroll around the city, here is the best location - Best location, friendly staff Nope
- Yu (10/5): Best place - Great location Nope
- Heloise (1/5): Not good - I can’t think of anything that I liked at all. 1. The room wasn’t clean.
2. The blankets were very old
3. The heaters weren’t working
4. Curtains weren’t torn and everyone could see inside the room
5. The kitchen and bathroom were terrible
6. No heating in the common areas
7. Hole in the walls
- Mercedes (4/5): Disappointing - Good location. The Cleaner did the best in the hostel. The hostel seems abandoned, the facilities are poor, dirty and broken. The water in the showers does not last long so you will probably run out of water in the middle of your bath. And above all, inside the hostel it looked like a refrigerator, it has no heating. Only in the rooms does it have a heater. If you only have to spend one night it may work, I don't recommend it.
- Nichapat (6/5): Pleasant - Staffs are so friendly Dirtiest place that i have ever stayed
- Gabriel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abdul (8/5): Very good -
- Renata (2/5): Cheap but dirty. It’s ok to sleep for one night. - Good location and comfortable bed It was really dirty, you can tell they only change the sheets and don’t clean the rooms or the common areas really often. Bathroom dirty and with water leakings. Public bathrooms are cleaner than these. I didn’t see anyone from the staff during my stay, just backpackers living there.
- Lou (3/5): Poor - Too much dirty, cold, some showers without hot water and kitchen gross… very creepy
- Johanna (7/5): Good -
- Ruiliang (4/5): Disappointing - Price Dirty
- James (8/5): Lovely hostel - good value for Launceston - Pete and James were both helpful and friendly. The hostel is in a lovely old building, close to the museum and planetarium (must sees), and a 15 minute walk to town. Beds were comfy and there were enough outlets. Kitchen busy but well equipped. Bathrooms clean but need a bit of maintenance. Cleaning let this hostel down. Cleaner concentrates on kitchen and bathrooms and toilets. Bedrooms don't seem to get attention. Our room smelt great, air freshener which we discovered on our last night was masking the smell of a dead rat in an old boot under the bed which had obviously not been cleaned or swept for weeks. The cleaner also didn't seem to like people daring to brush their teeth at 9am. Check-out at 10am means the cleaner should keep out of guests way before this time. Don't let the cleaning put you off, this is a good hostel, and the staff do their best to give you an enjoyable stay.
- 昱秀 (5/5): Passable -
- Binh (5/5): Passable -
- Greg (7/5): Good -
- Meryl (6/5): Loads of potential to be a great hostel. Needs a good scrub up & better routines in place. - Staff helpful & responsive to queries. Bed firm & clean linen. Good storage space in rooms. Toilets & bathroom clean, but not all were working. Really helpful in returning an item left behind. Good location being only 15 minute walk from downtown.
Busy with working travellers, all of whom seemed very happy with their circumstances. It wouldn't take a big effort to really improve this place. Overall, the common areas just needs to be cleaner. It would be handy to let people know that towels are not supplied. Luggage storage available, but we felt this should be more secure, although, everything was fine for our gear.
- Theophile (10/5): Good for a short stay - Clean and well located Lots of noise in the evenings
- Alessandro (3/5): Poor -
- Danz (4/5): Budget stay if you just need a bed and shower - Value for backpackers. Female dorms not full so could spread out. Bed quilt thin but warm. Small oil heater for dorm. Clean enough sinks and loos with toilet paper and hand towels. Good water pressure in shower. Great WiFi. Plenty of kettles and microwaves. Friendly guests. Short walk to Seaport precinct. Bus stop nearby. Lumpy flat pillow. Bring your own if you are a fussy sleeper.
Shower hot but wish it was hotter in the cold morning. Moldy silicone around shower cubicle.
Kitchen/dining room rather grotty (shelves grungy and tables sticky, floor unswept). Microwaves so dirty. All fridges chock-full. Hard to find a spoon or coffee cup.
- Francesco (8/5): Very good -
- Lennon (5/5): Interesting building, shame to let it fall into disrepair - Interesting heritage building - a great example of early colonial architecture.
The communal living room was comfortable.
Rooms are large. Desperate need of maintenance throughout the building.
Kitchen/bathrooms actively dirty.
There's no lamps/lockers in the bedrooms.
Photos are not current or accurate.
- Ann (5/5): Cheap but not clean and the staff hour is not really much. - Cheap The room and the public room is not clean….
- Jose (8/5): Very good -
- Marcos (8/5): Nice hostel for backpackers in Launceston - Large common areas. Really nice backpackers environment! A bit old and needing repairs but still ok, the beds are ok which is the most important thing
- Mei-hui (7/5): Good - There was a staff member named James who was very friendly. Thank you very much for taking care of him many times.
- Jan (3/5): Poor -
- Mailys (5/5): Passable - good price and room is ok very dirty, everything in the kitchen and shared parts are in very bad condition, so difficult to cook something here ..
- Samuel (7/5): Overall pleasant stay. - Very spacious dorm room, man on reception was friendly and helpful. Toilets cleaned well once a day. Common areas were filthy, I wouldn't eat off of a single table in the dining area...
- Linda (7/5): Good -
- Lisa (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (9/5): Superb -
- Terry (6/5): Amazing value but comes with low expectations (and plan to wake up early!) - Amazing value for money Full of long term travellers who all seem to get up and stomp around/slam doors between 530 and 730!
- Marlene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kan (5/5): Passable -
- Danique (4/5): Disappointing - Loved the building and the staff were lovely The cleanliness of the kitchen many guests did not clean up after themselves
- Amelie (2/5): Never again - The hostel kitchen was disgusting and a complete chaos with a lack of amenities and nothing was clean...
- Joseph (5/5): Okay for a day - No breakfast Cleanliness
- Sylvia (8/5): Very good - Overall I enjoyed my stay at the arthouse hostel and the location was walkable to attractions and city centre.
- Bamford (7/5): Good -
- Phoebe (5/5): Passable - Upgraded to a 4 bed which was nice to have a private room as a group. Stayed in the same room as 2 nights prior and there were still the same bits of rubbish on the floor (unused cigarette parts) as when we had stayed previously so the room had clearly not been cleaned in the 2 days since we’d last stayed. Could feel springs in bed. Kitchen was marginally cleaner than when last stayed but still a mess of utensils and bags. Bathrooms not particularly clean.
- Theden (6/5): Pleasant -
- João (1/5): Bad - The staff are really helpful and empathetic. Unfortunately the hostel itself looks awful.
- Phoebe (4/5): Disappointing - Upgraded from 6 bed to 4 bed dorm as a group of 3 which was nice for privacy. Good space for a 4 bed dorm. Good sized communal spaces. Very dirty kitchen with minimal kitchen utensils and bags of food lying around everywhere. Kitchen was closed 9-12 every morning for cleaning and so would expect a clean kitchen as a result. Some of the microwaves were disgusting. Needs stricter kitchen cleaning policy for residents. Bathroom also had dirty floors and sinks. Despite being able to feel each of the springs of the dorm beds did manage to sleep through the night.
- Chia-hsuan (9/5): Superb -
- Aydan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (8/5): Very good - I don't understand all the negative reviews. For the price it was good. Comfy bed. Easy to sleep. Big common areas. Great value for a short stay. Kitchen is a bit small and grubby.
