- SidRamage (8/5): Where old and new meet. - A very comfortable, arty hotel with excellent, friendly staff. The room was more compact than our previous hotels but a spacious shower was lovely. Breakfast was served rather than buffet so allow more time for this. Restaurant food was good but not particularly exciting (we ate in the restaurant one evening). They provided a wide range of free, Ecuadorian snacks in the room. The hotel was close enough to the Historic Centre that we felt comfortable walking between the two although I did have my backpack slashed in the centre of town (but didn't lose anything). The hotel itself is a wonderfully converted old mansion. A very pleasant place to stay.

It was nice to be greeted by enthusiastic staff and a welcome glass of spiced juice when we arrived. The room we had was very clean and a perfect size for two of us. The bathroom was also a good size. The provided breakfast had a good variety and, again, the service staff were very attentive and polite. I would definitely stay here again!

The staff are always at the front door to welcome you, available for any needs and able to keep track of when the guests are leaving and always offer to have boxed breakfasts if you are traveling early. They always want to make sure you are fed! Ivan worked a lot during our stay and was so helpful. The rooms are beautiful and there’s a restaurant and roof top bar. Dino, the bartender provided the best service we’ve ever had with dining. He was so kind and eager for us to have a good experience. We stayed 4 nights before going to the Galápagos and then 2 nights afterwards before going home. I really can’t say enough wonderful things about the staff here.

A 5 - 10 minute walk to the "old town" or a quick taxi ride at a very reasonable cost. The breakfast buffet was delicious and dinner and drinks at the rooftop restaurant was excellent. Highly recommend!
- Jatinder (10/5): Awesome hotel Mama Cuchara! - Excellent service! They run out to get your luggage, explain the amenities at the hotel, and show you to your room and the room’s features. Very clean! Very reasonably priced which included a bouquet of flowers, lots of snacks, a bottle of water, and a bottle of wine in our room. Hotel restaurant is almost as good as some expensive restaurants in large USA cities, but reasonably priced. The food and drink choices were plentiful and delicious.

The hotel is beautifully renovated with all the modern conveniences but still retains an abundance of local charm. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The hotel Is very comfortable and welcoming. The food is excellent with a beautiful restaurant in the center courtyard and a rooftop bar/restaurant with an amazing view. They have many gluten free and healthy options on the menu. The hotel is not that close to the airport so I would recommend staying more than one night. We stayed 2 nights after a Galapagos cruise and it worked out perfectly.

A lot of small touches made the stay extra memorable and rewarding. The location is a bit off the main old town but the hotel makes up for this in absolute charm. Very well done.
- Ar (9/5): The staff was very gracious, courteous and helpful. The rooms were very spacious and beautiful - The breakfast had a wide variety of items and good tasting coffee. The dinner upstairs was good, however couple of the dishes were a bit salty for my taste. They also ran out of the yellow fin tuna, which was one of the highlights of the menu. Like I stated earlier, some of the dishes were a bit salty for my taste. When I ordered the scrambled eggs without any salt, the dish came out perfect! The music in the courtyard restaurant was a bit too loud, but they did turn off the music at a reasonable time.

One of our party had a problem with luggage that didn’t make the connection and we spent our day replacing clothes, medication,etc. she helped with every aspect. Can’t say enough good things about her. This is our second stay in an art hotel. Top notch experience in both Quito and Otavalo.
- Grunge131 (10/5): Outstanding hotel - Mama Cuchara was our home base during a recent visit to Quito and the Galapagos. This boutique hotel is wonderful - clean, relatively quiet with wonderful staff. Easy walking distance to the historic downtown area of Quito, and the rooftop bar/restaurant has the most amazing views of the city. Be sure to visit amazing bartender Dino for a signature cocktail!
- robcrankin (8/5): A beautifully renovated hotel, in the historic centre but not quite in heart of the action - This hotel is beautiful, newly renovated with a very distinctive sense of style. Our rooms were lovely, large and comfortable, with welcome snacks and flowers. We also enjoyed the rooftop bar/restaurant and viewing platform. The staff were very warm and helpful. Our only reservation is that the hotel is in an offbeat section of the historic center, a fair hike away from the main attractions.
- Karen (10/5): Beautiful hotel with exemplary service. - A beautiful hotel which is on the edge of Old Town.it’s very stylish and has large comfortable bedrooms which are immaculate and are very quiet at night. Breakfast is wonderful and with excellent choice and is served in the central area. The highlight however was the staff who are very helpful, friendly and professional. We ate every night on the roof terrace, which was beautiful overlooking the skyline of Quito. Ponchos and heaters were a lovely addition and the food was amazing! The service was exceptional, Dino in particular made our stay memorable! He managed to anticipate all our needs and we loved every minute of our stay. A truly amazing hotel! Nothing
- DON (10/5): - Excellent hotel. Staff is tremendously helpful - helped counsel us on things to do and transportation and were actively looking out for us. The rooms were wonderful for our family. The interior courtyard was inviting and the rooftop restaurant was delicious. All staff were so warm and welcoming and Dennis in particular was wonderful when we ate at the restaurant. Lunch was delicious - breakfast is fine but not as differentiating as the rest of the experience. We could hear a woman’s choir singing when we left the hotel in the morning. Would love to come back.

- Sue2807C (10/5): A Gem in Quito - This hotel is charmingly furnished and has very comfortable rooms. Art pieces are liberally placed throughout the common areas and in the rooms, giving us the opportunity to enjoy and reflect on them. The service of its staff is truly exceptional and everyone has a ready smile for its guests. A light local snack is thoughtfully provided in the late afternoon and dinner which is up on the roof top allows diners to enjoy the lights of Quito by night while dining from an extensive menu featuring local produce. A shoutout must be given to Dino who serves the diners with unfaltering professionalism. The only distraction is the loud blaring pop music that repeats itself every night; if music is to be played perhaps some light Ecuadorian instrumental pieces could be selected.
- debsurrey2018 (10/5): Best hotel in Quito - We stayed 4 nights in all. We arrived in Quito and used this lovely hotel as a base. We travelled to the rainforest and the Galapagos Islands and back to Quito. It is well placed for city sightseeing. It's a lovely unusual building , very comfortable with lovely rooms. The star of the show is the roof terrace with amazing views over Quito. The restaurant and bar service up there (and downstairs for breakfast) are excellent. The food was great. Dino makes wonderful cocktails which is an entertainment in itself. He brings out the patio heaters and ponchos when it gets chilly. They provide entertainment some evenings. The reception staff were so helpful and kind. We were sorry to leave.

The rooftop bar was amazing! Such a great vibe and it had live music. It isn’t in the best area of Quito. Daytime is fine but you shouldn’t walk outside at night. Even the front counter was shocked when I told them I was going for a walk around 11PM.

The courtyard was decorated with amazing glass sculptures and other art. The room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated with paintings and unique glass fixtures. - The_Erb (10/5): A Welcoming, Comfortable, Elegant Hotel Full of Style - We have just stayed at this wonderful hotel. Overall we spent four nights there between visits to The Galapagos and the Rio Napo. Staying there was a true pleasure - the perfect home base in a foreign city. 1) The staff are all smiling, friendly, efficient and very professional - the management should be proud of them, from the doorman and receptionists to the waiting staff, barmen and housekeeping. On arrival we were welcomed with a refreshing face towel and a drink. 2) The catering is tasty, attractive and imaginative - every dish has a local twist, whilst presented in a modern style. The Lacro de Papas is a meal in itself and the Ceviche is the fresh taste of Ecuador in a bowl. Breakfast is a never-ending selection of prepared fruit, homemade breads, grains, plus a cooked to order breakfast of everything you can think of and more. Eat in the hotel’s airy central courtyard/plaza or on the roof terrace with amazing views over Quito. 3) The bedrooms are very comfortable - excellent mattress. Everything you could need. Being English we missed not having a kettle for making our morning tea, but there was a good coffee machine. Every evening there was a tasty amuse-bouche waiting for us in the room to welcome us home. 4) The general ambience is fresh and clean. Old-fashioned whilst totally contemporary. The sculpture and artwork throughout the hotel is quirky and idiosyncratic. 5) The location is a short walk (10 - 15 mins) down the Rocafuerte and through the Plaza de Santo Domingo to the Old Town. The area feels very safe. It's a 30 to 45 minute taxi ride from the airport, but traffic can be heavy at peak times. The only sad part of our visit was the number of unnecessary cancellations all the hoteliers had suffered due to the problems of unrest elsewhere in Ecuador - we were totally unaffected by the political situation. Visit Ecuador, it is safe and so welcoming.
- Travelaround59 (6/5): I like the hotel but is was a bit disappointed! - Now the hotel has a lot of nice points: First the location that is perfect to discover Quito Old Town (just a 10 minutes walk downhill); Second the staff at reception couldn’t have been more helpful and smiling (and to them a 5 star plus…I could come back just for you guys!); Third the decor that is interesting and arty (as per the name of the hotel) albeit not at the top of my liking (but nothing with to go with my score!) Breakfast was ok (I rather prefer a buffet offering that is quick!) What let me down was actually the size of the room and bathroom!! My booking was for a Deluxe room and we had one with a wonderful view but my God…once the bed was in (very comfortable by the way) there was no room for moving and for our rather large suitcases (3 weeks travelling South America require lots of things!) and the bathroom too was rather on the small side (to put it simply!). My point is that the hotel was, unfortunately for them, rather empty and there were only one bedroom taken on the Deluxe side…all the other were open and perfectly appointed and so generously large with ample space to open suitcases and bathrooms again very very large…I have been envious of them. Frankly I couldn’t complain about mine but my stay hasn’t been comfortable as it could have been.
- gerrymc2017 (10/5): A gem near the the old city in Quito - An excellent all round stay. Staff are among the best, very helpful, experienced and professional. Rooms were very tastefully decorated, comfy bed and cleaned to a very high standard (there as no AC but we didn’t need it). There is a central, airy, enclosed courtyard (the restaurant area) and rooftop terrace with bar and meals served there too. Food was excellent and beautifully presented. It’s a real oasis in the hurly-burly that is Quito Located within 10mins walk of the old city but best to taxi at night. We’d highly recommend! Gerry

Each room is unique and has art work and furnishings that make the rooms feel cozy and inviting. The food was excellent and the wait staff and bar tenders were accommodating. I would stay here again without hesitation!
- Francisco (10/5): - This hotel and its staff are truly amazing. My wife and I felt safe and very well taken care of. There was no limit to what the staff would do to comfort us and take care of our needs. Rooms are spotless and very comfortable, there is a doorman there constantly as well as on the front desk. The breakfast was and included with the room, their cappuccino and orange juice was also very good and the orange juice is freshly squeezed. They have trips they can call and organize for you if you ask at the front desk. They have an amazing bar, and view of the city on the roof top. Great restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and stays open late. They even surprised us with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries for a birthday and we didn't ask for this but they just did it and it made our evening. Their decorations and ambient is also so well thought of as well as their flowers and plants. They have professional ladies they call to come to the hotel and give you a massage in a massage room (must pay separately and make and appointment for this). We will definitely be looking forward to staying here again.
- Charles (9/5): Quito Boutique Hotel - Beautiful building with renovation to bring modern amenities that support at first rate hotel. The roof top bar is terrific, with views in all directions. The size makes this a botique hotel experience. The rooms are small. Decor simple, but functional. The location is a challenge. Not a neighborhood for walking. Get ready to Uber to get most anywhere in Quito.

- Dr Christian (8/5): Architektonisch gelungenes Luxushotel - Hochpreisiges Hotel mit dafür zu kleinem Zimmer ohne Minibar. Sehr sauber, sehr hilfsbereites Personal, sehr gut gelegen in der Altstadt. Sehr schöner Aussichtspunkt auf dem Dach, von der Bar zu erreichen.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A surprising gem of a hotel located at the quiet end of a long street, calle Rocafuerte. Walking distance to many nice visit spots in the old city. The hotel itself is well equipped and the staff were all very friendly, very helpful and intent on ensuring our stay there with them, though short, was the best experience that we had. I would go back in an instant!
