Guest Reviews
- Bethany (10/5): Peaceful stay at historic inn. Fun to relax and explore - Gorgeous historic mansion, well maintained with comfortable simple amenities Loved everything! Only thing is the only coffee available is a Keurig, but not that big a deal because there’s plenty of coffee shops downtown. Would be perfect if they added a Nespresso machine!
- Beeck (9/5): -
- Leah (10/5): -
- Laura (9/5): The staff person was very nice, and our room was beautiful and comfortable. - Breakfast coupon at a restaurant/hotel nearby. The water in the hot tub could have been a little warmer/hotter.
- Donald (10/5): We had a very comfortable stay and the house was historic and lovely. - Breakfast was off-site, at the Lowell Inn. It was delicious. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, and the owner was warm and welcoming. The temperature of the bath water was warm -ish but never got hot, and cooled off quickly..
- Carolyn (10/5): A wonderful and romantic getaway, perfect for staycationers who just want to get away from it all for a weekend! - It was very private and welcoming! Clean and comfortable too. The Carriage House is wonderful for a romantic getaway or anniversary! There isn't much not to like. Everything was perfect for us!
- Ashley (10/5): It was fantastic and perfect! We would highly recommend and visit again ! - Beautiful, cozy, and clean. Close to downtown for easy walking. Easy in and out access. When turning on the jets for the amazing giant tub it would expel an aweful sewer smell. So then we learned to let the jets run, drain the water and refill it again and that seemed to fix the issue when the jets would be turned on a second time . Happened both days- I just felt bad about wasting water !
- Judith (9/5): Pleasant, peaceful, clean, and cozy. - Quiet, peaceful lodging and safe feeling neighborhood.
Cookies and coffee included. Chapstick was also a bonus gift.
A nice variety of soaps, hair products provided.
Quaint, cozy.
Shoe coverings were provided so we didn't have to take off our shoes which was required otherwise.
Breakfast voucher at the Lowell Inn was nice since no meals or personal contact were available from staff. It, to me, is always nice to be greated by staff and assisted with any questions I might have. All communication was done by text, a bit impersonal.
- Steve (9/5): Wonderful - Room was a little too warm and air-conditioning didn't help much.
- Lisa (9/5): -
- Jeff (8/5): -
- owl (8/5): As expected -
- Thomas (8/5): -
- Michael (10/5): Beautiful get away! Probably perfect when it’s slightly warmer - The room was beautifully decorated and cozy! Cold bathroom
- Paula (8/5): -
- Anne (6/5): - The mattress in our room was soft and lumpy. We both experienced back pain after sleeping on it.
The owners were very nice and responsive, the house is beautiful and beautifully decorated and furnished, the other guests were very friendly, parking was easy, and you could easily walk downtown. If they can fix the mattress issue, they would get a 5 star rating from us.
- Christensen (10/5): We had a wonderful stay! - The historical building was fantastic. Would have liked to have heard abut the history of the house prior to taking the Trolley Tour. Only communicated with staff through text messages.
- Sue (10/5): Great Place to Stay - Everything was so wonderful
- Alissa (10/5): - We only communicated with the staff by text, but they responded very promptly.
We enjoyed that they allowed us to park in their lot earlier than check-in so that we could walk around and enjoy the town-- very walkable location.
- Victoria (10/5): -
- Amanda (10/5): Highly recommended - Was a great stay in the carriage house, so quiet and peaceful. Loved the property but heads up it’s up the hill if your plan is to walk to/from downtown.
- Gerald (10/5): - This establishment is situated in an old restored home. It still has the original wooden floors, doors and fixtures. Internet access was very simple and worked perfectly. Location of this house is within walking distance of Main Street, home to many restaurants and antique shops. A walkable linear path over the lift bridge.
Very good customer service. We experienced a power outage which lasted 5 hours. We received a partial refund. Even though it did not affect us, a tree was blown down during this recent storm. It was clear out before midday.
Would recommend this place for quiet stay.
- Steve (10/5): - Charming house
- robert (10/5): - Great location. Quiet. Great hosts.
- Julia (10/5): Lovely, quiet suites in a beautiful home. Great location to shopping and restaurants! - Loved the location and the room was so charming! Love the decor! The price is pretty steep but you pay a lot for nicer lodging in Minnesota!
- Thompson (10/5): -
- Jill (7/5): My daughter and I were in Stillwater for a wedding. The location was perfect for all of the activities. - Location was great - The bathroom had an unusual swinging curtain rod arrangement for a door
- Miranda (10/5): - Aurora Staples was very quaint, with beautifully preserved Victorian architecture. It was clean and quiet, and within walking distance to restaurants and shops downtown. Rachelle was a wonderful and accommodating hostess. My husband and I would definitely stay there again.
- Steven (8/5): Enjoyable stay for the most part - It was like staying in a museum! Mad respect for the proprietors (whoever they are?), for the magnificent job they did using all authentic pieces for this Victorian/Edwardian styled BNB.
We stayed in the St. Croix room only because it had the only king bed in the B&B. Plenty of room.
Breakfast was a voucher for the Lowell Inn, about two blocks away for a preset breakfast menu, which was more than adequate and delicious! Property was located on a hill about two very very steep blocks from the riverfront so plan accordingly! We never did meet the proprietors as everything is self check in (albeit with very good check-in instructions sent the day prior, and any questions are promptly responded to within the hour). Personally, we found this very impersonal.
Also, I’m sure it was done with good intentions, but, you should not assume that your guests need a Bible on the nightstand next to the bed. We did not!
Central Air conditioning was good the first night we were there, but the second night for whatever reason, the central air conditioning was turned off and we had to use the window box air conditioner, which was very loud and kept us up half the night!
- Sam5UK (8/5): Quaint and lovely - We stayed here for 2 weeks whilst visiting our son. Generally the lodgings were good and my wife and I would describe it as quaint.
We stayed for 9 nights in the carriage room and 5 nights in the St. Croix room.
We found the carriage room a tad dark so really it needed some more day light.
In the main house we found it to be so much better and lighter.
Wi-Fi worked much better in the main house.
Rochelle, the owner was a delightful lady and was always obliging.
Due to the distance between the Inn and the cafe’s I would have preferred to have eaten on site.
The 11 breakfast we had at the Lowell Hotel were lovely but very limited to the value of the voucher, but what was provided was more than ample.
As we didn’t have a car we were limited as to how far we could walk and we are both 75 years young with hips and knees of the same age.
Stillwater as a venue was a fabulous place and the Inn is located near to the river and the town. We felt very safe there and all the local people were so friendly, we felt we knew everyone.
When booking you should realise that the Aurora Inn is a very old wooden building and is furnished accordingly. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the beds were really nice. Please don’t go there expecting 65” televisions with Netflix, it’s not that kind of hotel, it’s simply nice.
- Laurie (6/5): - There is no staff at this location. You let yourself in with a code. You had to go to the Lowell Inn for breakfast. No ice or wine glasses available. Our room had jetted tub but no shower. This is advertised as a bed and breakfast but since there were no host in my mind should not be advertised as such.
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amber (10/5): - Quiet place to stay! Great service!
- Megan (10/5): Exceptional - I had booked thinking it might be cooler for Mother’s Day weekend since it’s our anniversary as well. I was happy to find out they must have central air because it ended up being unseasonable hot! It was very close to all the action in Stillwater. We walked by the river and enjoyed the extra space we had versus some of the local hotels. They give you a card for breakfast at Lowell Inn. It is very close by and they had a delicious breakfast menu to choose from. I was surprised by it at first, but honestly I think I preferred it. My husband and I don’t get much time alone, so it was nice to have the privacy of our own table and to choose what we wanted to eat. I would stay again! Everything was great.
- Gina (8/5): Lovely carriage house! - The carriage house was very spacious with a lovely tub and shower. The bed was very comfy. We never met the owners. That part felt kind of impersonal. They were out of ice (per text) and there was no water supplied in our room like there was in the house. Otherwise, the room had most of what we needed.
The breakfast coupon was for a truly spectacular restaurant with incredible service.
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Jeff (8/5): True to the description - landmark, historic, destination. - The BnB & town is a time warp, historical adventure. Minor issues regarding housekeeping in the room but no biggy & overall the room was spacious & stay was quiet and comfortable. I was all good.
- 130rebeccaj (10/5): Wedding anniversary stay - We stayed to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a romantic step back in time. We loved sitting downstairs and exploring all the details. Comfortable bed with quaint linens. Our breakfast at the historic Lowel inn was delicious. Highly recommend staying here.
- Robin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nick (10/5): - Nice place
- Luke N (10/5): - Really nice place and nice hosts. We had a great time. Hope to be back again.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trisha (10/5): - We had a great one night stay to celebrate our Anniversary. The Gvierney room was so comfortable, the bed was soft and we enjoyed the jetted bathtub. Would definitely book it again.
- holleed2023 (10/5): Cute and romantic stay - My husband and I came here for my birthday weekend. The inn is very cute and a great location. We really liked that we were close enough to walk to Main Street (five minutes or so but there are hills) but far enough that we had more privacy. The decorations and detailing in the house is so darling. We really liked the added touch of complimentary drinks, coffee, chocolates and cookies. My favourite part was the huge jacuzzi in our room and the cozy fireplace. One thing to note however is that we still had to pay for our breakfast outta pocket. The gift card is nice but won’t cover drinks (we got tea and coke) or a tip. So just keep that in mind. The gift card was $30 and our bill came to $39 + a 20% tip so we paid about $20 outta pocket. Which isn’t a big deal, but would’ve been nice to know ahead of time, since other places in town offer full complimentary breakfasts and since my husband likes to keep track of finaces😂
Also check in being at 4 is a bit inconvenient, since 3pm is usually the standard for hotels, but we knew ahead of time and were able to plan accordingly.
We really enjoyed our cozy and romantic stay and hope to back again some day!
- Verna (10/5): We highly recommend this very historic and well preserved bed and breakfast! - The house itself is so historical and well kept! Our room was upgraded to the St. Croix Suite and was so comfortable and cozy. Thank you, Rachelle! Nice jacuzzi tub, dual fireplace, and king size bed. The owners were very friendly and helpful. There was Keurig coffee available in the foyer. We were given a voucher for breakfast at the nearby Lowell Inn. It was fantastic!! Wish we could have spent a couple of days at Aurora! The bed was really comfortable, but I think it was a memory foam mattress which is too warm for me. :( My husband loved it. :)
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jim (7/5): Good -
- Tracy (7/5): It was fantastic! We had a wonderful time. Would highly recommend. - The inn was beautiful but a little chilly. Close to everything you could want. A little chilly, breakfast there would be nice ( maybe consider a buffet where they can help themselves but still not have a lot of contact. Hot cocoa pods where the coffee is for those that don’t drink coffee. If you enjoy meeting the guests, perhaps an evening before bed offering Irish coffees, hot cocoa w/ peppermint schnapps or mimosas where guests can gather and share their day experiences. Get to know each other. Maybe consider screens or closing off bath tubs and showers for privacy for when friends visit together or siblings are sharing a room.
- Kathy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lois (10/5): Perfect Getaway - We booked the St Croix Suite to celebrate a milestone birthday with mom/adult daughter. The room was lovely with a seating area and fireplace, so we settled in before walking to a nearby restaurant for dinner. It was dark, but we felt safe.
A good hill climb, and more time relaxing. We didn't use the hot tub, but it is big enough for two.
The bed was a King, and very comfortable. You do not feel movement of the other person, and we slept great.
I would definitely book here again!!
Also breakfast at the Lowell inn, just down the hill was delicious. We both ordered the eggs benedict and were not disappointed.
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional - The suite was nicely decorated, the bed and pillows were comfortable. We appreciated the coffee and snacks. The breakfast at Oasis was very nice! There was a lovely fireplace in the room but it was only for "show". It would have been nice to have a little fire glowing in the room.
- Alan (10/5): - Great accommandations
- Cassandra (8/5): We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again if we are in Stillwater. - We loved that it was close by to downtown. We also really appreciated the excellent breakfast at Lowell Inn. The owner was very friendly! We also loved the original flooring in the home. We tend to like a more firm bed, so we thought the bed was a little soft. I'm sure people who like a softer bed would love this one though!
- Mark (10/5): Awesome!! - Breakfast was fantastic. The Lowell Inn was amazing! Nothing. Our experience exceeded our expectations. Loved our stay.
- Steven A (10/5): - It's a beautiful inn. We enjoyed our stay very much.
- Ronald (8/5): Relaxing - Location . Lovely furnishings. Private Putting shoe covers on while in the house. They are too slippery for older people navigating the stairs. No instructions for using the tv.
- Kristen (10/5): Loved it! We'll be back! - Gift certificate to cute little cafe, Oasis. Wonderful food and service. Great idea to bundle together. A must the pumpkin caramel rolls!
Also the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. It was so relaxing. Everything was fantastic
- Thomas (8/5): - Loved the jetted tub.
- Margaret (10/5): Really enjoyed my stay there and the Host was great. - Location was great , not far from Downtown. Everything was Great.i
- Gwen (10/5): Absolutely wonderful and exceeded our expectations! - My mother and I stayed in the St. Croix Suit for a mother daughter trip. Our entire stay was absolutely wonderful and exceeded our expectations. The check in and out process was very easy and clear due to the helpful information provided ahead of time. The house and our room was immaculate and perfectly decorated and equipped with anything we might need. I felt like I was stepping back in time to stay in a room at Downton Abbey but with all the modern necessities for an easy comfortable stay. Although the Aurora Staples Inn wasn’t providing breakfast during our stay, we received a gift card for the Lowell Inn for a complementary breakfast instead. This was located just down the road within walking distance in nice weather, and it was a lovely breakfast and location as well. Overall wonderful experience I would highly recommend! Hopefully I will get the chance to come back again in the future. Only downside for me would be that breakfast wasn’t available at location during our stay but both my mother and I still enjoyed the Lowell Inn for breakfast as it was very good!
- chuckb954 (10/5): Great Stay! - We had a lovely stay in the carriage house. All the special little touches made it like home. Bathrobes, chocolates, water bottles, snacks, battery operated candles, and air freshener by the toilet! It was a beautiful room. Bed was comfortable. Pillows were nice, firm and soft for your preference. Would definitely recommend and visit again.
- Eric (9/5): Beautiful house and clean - Beautiful and clean The fire place wasn’t working and the 7 am skidsteer outside an unexpected wake up call
- ROBERT (6/5): - Front door has no lock-broken. No shower in room-hand held in whirlpool tub. Old sheets and pilllow cases. Worn out bench seat. No housekeeping. Lighting in stairways is minimal. Noisy room. Drafty window air conditioner on sides of window.
- Cary (9/5): Great place to stay - Beautiful rooms that are very comfortable Price was high for one night’s
- Eliud (10/5): Charming, historic, beautifully maintained. - Beautiful. Everything was well done. The room was clean and the little extras were awesome. Chocolates and a coffee bar was exceptional. We love it. Not much.
- Laura (9/5): Superb -
- David (9/5): We stayed there for our HoneyMoon and it was wonderful / granted, we were on cloud 9 from just having been married, - Beautiful historic property in a great location. Comfortable beds, clean and lovely. No breakfast offered in-house, super small TV.
- Kori (7/5): Good - It was nice and quiet, even though you could hear every creak in the floor; somehow it was still quiet at night. It was very clean and elegant. I felt bad that I could only leave a meager tip, but I didn't have a lot of cash. The cleaning crew did a great job. Kudos. It was cold in the room. The window fan only blew cold air even though we turned the temp up to 80 degrees. One of the jets in the whirlpool bath (the one in the back) spewed the water out like a fountain so I couldn't use it. It would have been nice to know that there was no separate shower in the bathroom and you had to use the bathtub as a shower. That was not ideal, especially given the location of the bathtub, which could be seen when you open the door and the coffee station is right outside the room! Perhaps that could be moved to a different spot?
- Victoria (9/5): Superb -
- Judith (10/5): Exceptional - I enjoyed the breakfasts at both “the Oasis” and the Lowell Inn!
It was nice to be so close to Stillwater …!!! I enjoyed every thing at the house! No complaints!!
- Joann (10/5): Beautiful Stillwater history is evident throughout this home. Thank you for making a girlfriends stay comfortable. - Very comfortable bed. Very pleasant ownership.
- kathy (8/5): - I love old houses
This one is a meticulously kept architectural dream . Well kept and wonderfully decorated. Bed was comfy. Breakfast at the Lowel inn was delicious.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- John (10/5): - We had a wonderful visit to the Aurora Staples. It was just a little away from the main area, so it was quiet and convenient. Very Charming. We stayed in the Riverview room which had a small porch and a hanging swing. Very nicely decorated.
Touchless entry was convenient and flexible.
- Edward (10/5): Exceptional -
- O'leary (9/5): Superb -
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Beautiful house and porch. I recommend that a door be added to the Riverside Suite bathroom.
- Day (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (8/5): - Contactless entry was easy with passcode. Only available beverages were a kureg coffee maker and bottled water in fridge. Did get voucher for breakfast at a nearby restaurant.
Recommend for those who like victorian style B&Bs. Lovely old furniture and decor. Bed was king and very comfortable.
- David (10/5): - It was unique, quiet and comfortable accommodations
- Mike (9/5): A terrific place for a romantic getaway for my wife’s birthday. - Voucher for breakfast at Lowell Inn. 2-person spa in room. No shower.
- Tamera (10/5): - Everything
- Joseph (8/5): OK - good location TV is 24" Way too small
- Thomas (10/5): We had a great time and will be back again!! - Very well kept and inviting. It is a very beautiful property!! Nothing
- Nicole (6/5): Pleasant - No room services
The pillows on the bed were dusty
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Judy (2/5): Disappointed - Great, but had drive to get there. Stayed 3 nights and our room was never cleaned or fresh towels or any human contact at all. A strange b&b experience. Way over priced too!
- Bonnie (10/5): Great place. We'll be back! - This place is so comfortable, so clean, extra little touches in the room, neat decor, games, cards, Keurig coffee, snacks, extra drinks in fridge (water, soda). Very well kept Victorian home. Nice porch came with this room to have coffee and read in, Great location to downtown Stillwater. Everything was exceptional.
- Renee (8/5): We really enjoyed our night!! - Breakfast was very good!!!
- Leann (8/5): Very nice - The bed was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly. Our room didn’t have a shower, which I didn’t realize when I booked it.
- Tanner (10/5): Exceptional -
- Myers (9/5): Superb - The floors are beautiful and the porch was nice to sit out on.
- Kelsy (8/5): - The property is quaint and rustic. Very close to downtown and very walkable to all things. If you are coming from out of town and Uber-ed from the airport as we did, there are little options to assist with luggage. They did ultimately let us check in early which was helpful. However, if you assume you can drop your bags prior to check in, that is not an option. It states BnB but the breakfast is at another hotel a few blocks away and you have to make reservations 24 hours in advance. Also, the check in check out is all done on your own. Feels more like a shared air bnb than a BnB. Nothing wrong with this but it’s not as transparent online.
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (10/5): Quiet and comfortable - Super comfortable room. Beautiful house. Everyone was quiet the night I stayed there. Walking distance to the central district. The sun room off the Riverside Suite has a nice table for work and the territorial view is quite pleasant. Would stay there again.
- Richard (10/5): - Beautiful room, good price easy access.
- Connie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Homey bed and breakfast feel without the early communal breakfast meal. Absolutely loved our time there!
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
