Guest Reviews
- Warren (7/5): - The food was delishious, we were able to get the lunch price for our dinner meal, otherwise pricey. We enjoyed the bird hike and waterfall hike.
- Matthias (10/5): Ideal zum Entspannen. - Einfach nur wow. Tolle Bungalows, liebevoll eingerichtet. Sehr abgeschieden.
- linda (9/5): -
- William (9/5): You will remember the food & stunning location -excellent !! - spectacular view, super delicious food, and accomodating staff. Attention to detail on the rustic decor in common eating area was impessive. Background eating music was soothing & appropriate.
- Wallis (8/5): A beautiful and peaceful eco-lodge with breathtaking views and a perfect place to relax and reconnect with nature. - The property is beautiful and peaceful, surrounded by nature with an amazing view of the mountains. I loved the eco-friendly atmosphere and how quiet and relaxing it felt. It was the perfect place to disconnect, enjoy the fresh air, and go hiking nearby. The staff was also very welcoming and helpful. The Wi-Fi can be a bit limited because of the remote location, but it also helped me disconnect and enjoy the peaceful environment more.

- David (9/5): Well worth a stay especially if you like nature. - Friendly staff, great food, beautiful view! Birding with Juanine was excellent. Saw 28 species including a half dozen Hispaniola endemics! There is some traffic noise noticeable at night.
- Grad (7/5): Mountain stay - We loved the view and the open air concept. The food and service were excellent. We loved our hike whom has loved in the community for years. Enjoyed the jazzy music that played in the dining area and the coffee was excellent. The pool was refreshing and very clean. We didn't like the noise that came up from the roads below...the bed could have been more comfortable and the water was either scaulding hot or too cold. Also would've been nice to have a few extra towels.

- Markasa (10/5): - Staff was nice
- Rosmeri (10/5): - clean/staff is there to help you,my second time and very pleased.
highly recommended for a couple getaway.
- Delsy (10/5): - If you like nature this is as good as it gets. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food is amazing.
- Michele (10/5): - I stayed in one of the larger units; it had a fantastic view. Even though it was hot when I was there, we were high enough on the mountain to have a fresh breeze and I slept soundly with the help of a standing fan. Although rustic, there were plenty of hooks and space to unpack and settle in. Although there were about 25 steps to get to the lodge I was in it was totally worth the effort to get to the view and privacy! The food was delicious and the open air dining room also had beautiful views. The staff were kind, friendly and accommodating. We took a hike to God’s Swimming pool; the guide was patient and knowledgeable. The owner also curated a trip for us on another day to the nearby cigar factory and coffee plantation. I had an unforgettable time and would love to go back; this is definitely a place not to miss!
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gerritt (8/5): - We booked a single room for 3 adults. The queen-sized bed was nice. Two twin beds were located in a loft that was very cramped. Definitely a tight squeeze for average-sized adult men. No hot water, which is to be expected. The property is beautiful. As eco-lodges go, this one was not as secluded as some. You will definitely hear noise from neighbors, road noise, dogs, roosters, etc. View is spectacular. Staff excellent. We were glad we opted for the family dinner. The food was good and the portions generous. We were not bothered by mosquitoes in our room at all, despite it being completely open-air - however we appreciated the mosquito netting around the beds. The few mosquitoes lurking in the common washroom were the only ones we saw.
- Jessica (10/5): - Great pla
- Remis (9/5): Exciting stay, we enjoyed it a lot! - Sophia (the host) and all the staff made this place super special. Initially, we didn't know to expect but eventually were very sad to leave. This is amazing place, with super tasty food (breakfasts, dinners) and we enjoyed it a lot. We went on a couple of hikes with our friend now Juanin (please talk to the host to arrange you those hikes). The views are mindblowing. Feels very remote, and relaxing. N/A
- Van (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emely (6/5): - This place has so much potential, but unfortunately they need to do some sort of revamping. If you are looking to connect with nature without caring for comfort/ cleanliness, then this would be a good spot.
- Pablo (7/5): Good - Location, views
- Joseph (9/5): Superb - Everything was amazing. Wish we could have stayed longer How loud the cars were from the highway
- Bertram (5/5): Not recommended - Nice view Close to a noisy mountain road, the rooms very primitive and not very clean, the bathroom a nightmare, the beds uncomfortable, bedroom without curtains or blinds.
- Jenniffer (10/5): - Its a quiet place with an spectacular view.
- Yency (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wilfredo (10/5): - Beautiful place keep up doing great job
- Claudia (10/5): - This was a great place to stay. Really enjoyed it. Very pretty view.
- Abhinav (1/5): Bad -
- Katrina (10/5): Exceptional - Very easily accessible from the main road but still retains a strong connection to nature - best of both worlds. Beautiful views, kind people, excellent service, delicious food .. what's not to love! We initially booked for just a quick stop and ended up extending our stay for several more days .. & would love to come back one day! Gracias de nuevo! This is just an advice for future guests - if you can rent a car when you go to the ecolodge, we highly recommend it as it will allow you to do wonderful day trips around the area. We were travelling by public transport on this occasion so at times this limited our movements but even then we were able to go on a beautiful hike and visit a nature park while there!
- favio (10/5): - What a gem from the city hustle and bustle .. none the less the lovely family and its history that runs the place amazing !
- Katherine (5/5): Passable -
- Chris (10/5): - Great views nice people
- David (9/5): It was amazing! Staff are top notch! -
- William (9/5): Superb - Lovely people, great food, Amazing view!
Lodge was confortable.
- Ivan (9/5): Relax and enjoy real Dominican food! - The real Dominican food experience! It was a 9/10 for lunch and dinner. The breakfast compared to lunch and dinner. Otherwise we only had once breakfast, therefore, I cannot give a complete review.
- Harvey (10/5): Would highly recommend - Lovely hosts, amazing views, well maintained rooms and excellent attention to detail Nothing!
- Roger (8/5): Very good -
- Ibolya (10/5): Nice experience - Beautiful location, well-equipped houses, very clean everywhere, nice staff, and delicious food! -
- Mark (10/5): fantastic 3 days exploring local area and resting at the lodge - family style hosting and dining no concerns.
- Isabel (10/5): Exceptional - Softer bed and pool restoration
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jolene (8/5): Very good -
- Rejan (9/5): Phenomenal food - We enjoyed the fresh and healthy food really much and had at any point more then enough food to choose from. Water and Coffe where also included.
The stuff was really friendly and organised very spontanious diffrent trips for us. Nothing
- Dserbano (10/5): Eco-friendly and Rustic place immersed in Nature! - Loved this place! It offers an eco-friendly and rustic experience and is located in a prime location with stunning ocean views from its mountain chateau. Only 20 minutes from Puerto Plata! There are many flies... but the hotel provides fly protection deodorant.
- Jonas (10/5): - Un lugar ideal para descansar
- Karen (10/5): Expansive peace - Glorious setting and fabulous views across the landscape to the ocean. Open air casita was great - but my favorite was the open air shower! The lodge is above an active village and highway and sound travels. The donkeys wake before the roosters.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Excellent service ..excellent food
- Leslie (8/5): A different experience - I liked the view and the experience of the hut in the nature. I loved the view from the bathroom and the room. I liked the common area. Tasha and her husband were very helpful and kind for which we are very grateful!! It was a bit far so no much restaurants options. It is recommendable to have a car.
I didn't like that the electricity and water supply went off. But they found a solution very fast.
The first day we got only one van so I slept a bit unconfortable. The next day I requested one and got another one and slept much better.
- A_simao (8/5): Very good - whole set up and general vibe.
- Van (10/5): Great spot to explore Santiago and Puerto Plata - Great family run place. Great sunset view Nothing
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Alma (5/5): The place has beautiful views and is good for just resting privatly, super quite and nice, but the facilities need an ur - I liked the views and that it was very private and quite. I didn’t like the facilities, bathrooms need work and also the rooms are pretty rough, I know the concept is ecological but still those areas need an upgrade.
- Wesley (9/5): Superb - Total relaxation, surrounded by nature! Amazing views! Friendly staff! Jessy made sure we felt at home. And chef Norma's local homestyle cooking is delicious! The hiking trip to the waterfall was also really great! The room near the road can be noisy due to traffic, but it's not every night. Still wish we could have stayed a bit longer.
- Ninoska (10/5): very nice peaceful place with the nature - we like everything and the stuff super cool we had no comments
- Randall (10/5): Ecolodge Tubagua Puerto Plata is magic carved into a Dominican Hillside - The entrance to the Ecolodge is plain and unassuming, but give it a chance. As soon as we shut the car doors and started down the natural stone path carved into the hillside, you begin to get your first glimpses of the magic that's to come.
This place is no-joke-charming. I could have stayed there for a week without driving off of that hillside and been very content. The fresh air and connection to nature were recharging me in ways that I didn't know I needed to be recharged. I've made a note of this before, but I am easily contented with a good view and peace. This property had those in spades.
They have beautiful communal gathering areas. A huge outdoor dining space under a garden pergola, a quaint lounging area beside the pool that has a cascading view of the valley below out to the ocean, and the larger dining room, bar, and lounge area under the main pavilion.
There was also a strong familiar atmosphere. Some cute and energetic puppies ran around, getting into trouble while providing the guest with smiles, as unannounced table guests wagged their tails, waiting for some generosity of table scraps. The friendly staff and the communal environment made us feel very relaxed and welcomed.
Unique Feature: The bar is self-service and operates on an honor system. You simply log what you drank on the notepad, and they'll add it to your bill. The ease-of-stay factor here is off the charts. I don't mind serving myself and, in most cases, would rather do so.
Food: Carmen, their local cook, did a phenomenal job with every meal we had there, especially breakfast. The mashed yucca with pickled red onions for breakfast were out of this world delicious. So delicious, in fact, my date, who didn't order them for herself, ate half of mine!
The Ecolodge Tubagua gets a Charming Score: 1000 out of 100 There were no dislikes. We had appropriate expectations for our stay. This isn't a luxury resort, but I mean that in the best way possible. The facilities were clean, and the staff was super friendly and accommodating. This place is full of charm. i hope to return someday soon.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional - Staff was very helpful, food was AMAZING!
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- becky (10/5): - Our stay was so unique~we loves everything! It was family friendly, the staff, the pets, the coffee and the food were outstanding! The view was amazing and Juanine’s tour to Gods pool and the Coffee plantation will be the most memorable part of our trip. The room was very simple but had great beds and the view was spectacular. Tim, the owner has great information about DR and the staff make you feel at home and like you’re part of the family. Our 12 year old said the breakfast and lunch was the best food on the trip. I can’t say enough nice things, it just was a really cool experience.
- Dimitrios (9/5): A very nice, cosy place to spend few days - An excellent alternative place to stay. 20 minutes from Puerto plata and 15 from the closest beach. Don't go if you are searching something fancy or luxury. You won't like it and your review will be unfair for the guys that owns the place. The owners are very kind and adorable. The view from the restaurant is outstanding. Breakfast and dinner are very tasteful. The bar is self service and it is based on your good will!!!!!!!!! There are plenty of excursions and activities nearby so you can spend your days without to get bored. The lodge is close to the highway and the noise from the cars don't let you get rest. You are getting use of it after a day.
Also i didn't like that the bill, at the check out was in USD and the exchange rate was high. They make a discount if you pay in cash but with the high exchange rate you lose this discount. And i can't understand since i live in DR and i use pesos i have to do all my transactions in USD
- Michaela (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place to be...
Very helpful and friendly staff...
Delicious food... -
- Melissa (8/5): Hidden gem! - Great place, attentive staff and awesome food. I highly recommend staying at least 2 nights to fully enjoy the place and activities in the area.
- Georg (4/5): - Realy beautyful Lodge with very friendly Personal and an absolutely stunning view.
A Place you could feel well
If yes if there would not be that highway through your bed
I did not sleep one second that night and we left the place next morning.
I feel very sorry about that because I liked that lodge a lot
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Location, food and staff were fabulous. Nothing!
- Manuel (8/5): Very good -
- Juliette (10/5): I had a wonderful, relaxing experience. It allowed me to re-center and really take a second and a break from the outside - The property was absolutely stunning! It overlooks the valley all the way to the ocean from the mountains and it’s just one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen. And the vibe of the property perfectly fits the environment. Highly recommend! there was not one thing I did not like. The property is beautiful. The food was fabulous. The staff is so warm and welcoming and amazing! I would definitely go back!
- Yodaska (10/5): - Great place to be to rest and relax.
- Avia (9/5): Superb -
- Jean-christophe (9/5): rustic gem + breathtaking view + delicious food! - the awesome view, the great food, the friendly staff, the tours offered (charco de los militares: waterfalls, and coffee plantation/ amber mines with a fun ride in motoconcho, but can be done by taxi I think). more than a stay: an experience! not a negative point, but you have to know (and actually enjoy!) that you’ll sleep in rustic cabines with common sanitary- btw even the open view on the hills from the toilet is incredible :)
- Micevski (10/5): Exceptional - It was very clean and very peaceful. The staff was amazing!
- Ana (9/5): Superb -
- Michele (9/5): Superb -
- Yair (9/5): Superb - The view and the relaxed feeling is amazing, the crew is very friendly, and the food was "home" like really good. Maybe would have been nice a better shower head 😅 and some more relaxed couches to sit on in the shade.
- Agneris (10/5): Exceptional - Everything from the people who run it to the area ita located.
- Agneris (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was amazing from start to finish. The view was exceptional.
- Guy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Camille (9/5): Amazing spot, perfect for day trips to the beach while resting in the nature. - The view is unbeatable from the rooms as well as the common areas. The food is excellent and the staff very nice. We did not notice it was shared bathroom at first. there are a couple of casitas with ensuite bathrooms and bigger space. These are really nice and allow more privacy.
- Ramon (10/5): Jessy and his wife are so helpful, when me and my fiancé arrived, they made all the check in process easy and fast. We d - The views, the food, the location.. everything was top notch 🙏🏻 Never mind, everything was outstanding
- annie (2/5): - The place is below average, and The service is lacking.
- Rosemary (8/5): - Excellent place to feel relax and peace. For enjoying the nature.
- JESUS (10/5): - Perfect weather.....too noisy during night, too close to the main road and a lot of motorcycles with no mufflers
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I liked everything. I love ghe concept znd harmony with natural
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I think with this property, you have to understand that it is a Ecolodge, so you should adjust your expectations. Overall, I was impressed with the location as it provided a very nice view of the Puerto Plata region and it was not too far from it. That said, there’s much that could be done to make this a desired lodging destination for my next trip. For example, I expected to pay a certain price, but with all the other charges added to pay using a credit card, I ended paying way more than I expected. Also, I had read that having dinner there would be an experience, but we were charged $15 USD a person for a pasta and sauce dinner (nothing special), and same with breakfast, which is not included, but you’re almost force to eat there because there isn’t anything near for breakfast. I didn't mind paying for breakfast or dinner, but when you’re in an Ecolodge in the Dominican Republic, you expect to pay reasonable prices, not European prices. On top of that, I would definitely incorporate the Dominican culture into what it is provided, breakfast was nothing but a normal continental breakfast, I expected some mangu, avocados, local fruits, etc. Again, overall the location and service of the Ecolodge is great, but closed attention should be paid to what is advertised in Expedia as a price and what you’ll actually pay, and don’t expect this Ecolodge to be the ecotourism destination expected of other ecotourism destinations.
