- Artem (10/5): Perfect place to stay in Hakone - Luxurious but friendly, a place with unexpected history. The room was spacious, the view from our onsen very calming and beautiful. The staff is trying very hard to provide the best service possible. The food is exquisite. We enjoyed ourselves very much! Loved everything, but of course it is pretty expensive (for us)

- Elle (6/5): - Breakfast was good overall. I once asked for to fried eggs in my room because I had to leave early for a day trip, but they only offered a lunch sandwich which was not very good but eating downstairs. Breakfast was good. The dining was nice, but overall the hotel was not worth it.

- Diana (10/5): Excellent service and fantastic food made us really feel like home! - The location, being so remote and quiet, the excellent and attentive service, and the food which had a great blend between French and local Japanese cuisine. There wasn’t anything we disliked. It would be great if there were more on-premise facilities, like maybe a spa or a swimming pool, particularly as it’s more remote, but the space may be a constraint.

- Cameron (10/5): Great if you want a quiet getaway. - Beautiful environment. Quiet as can be. Did realize that there are no walking or biking trails to anywhere else. You need a cab to visit other local sites.

Everything is good or excellent. the comments here are really minor and aimed to help: - it would be good to have a map of the area with suggestions of walks or run courses. the resort is lacking of sport oriented suggestions. - Tracy (10/5): Fabulous 2 day break - We had a fantastic stay! The hotel provided a shuttle from the station and to Gora, even dropping us off on departure day. A warm welcome awaited us, and the room was excellent — with free minibar drinks, a coffee machine with biscuits, and a brilliant hairdryer. The private onsen on the balcony was amazing and so relaxing, especially after busy days in Tokyo and surfing around Gora and Hakone. The food in the restaurant was exceptional, and breakfast offered both Japanese and English options — some of the best meals we’ve had in Japan. Staff were friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to make our stay perfect. Highly recommend! Can be a little inflexible on timings breakfast etc Fot some strange reason room service didn’t make our bed although this could have been due to a misunderstanding on booking in .

We got two rooms: a regular and a suite. Both had private onsens and both were very nice. The smaller room had a beautiful view out to nature. The suite had a roll set up behind the onsen so did not have much of a view. Can’t say enough great things about the staff. They would bend over backwards for you. Welcome to you with delicious tea and cookies, explained every dish they brought out at meals, arranged, transportation, etc. Not sure the suite was worth the extra money. We probably just get the regular rooms next time.

- Edward (7/5): A quiet retreat with private hot spring spas and Japanese fine dining. - Kanaya is a westernised ryokan with private onsen facilities for each room. The room was luxurious and spacious and the hot springs spa was located on the balcony overlooking the garden and woodlands. The staff were very attentive and everything ran smoothly. The restaurant has a set menu of "fine dining" quality Japanese dishes, which are delicious; and is quite different from the typical type of Japanese restaurant food which we were used to. The spa is gloriously hot in the afternoon and evening; but not hot enough in the early morning. There are no other "wellness" activities, such as massage, yoga etc, available at the hotel. Apart from inside the room, there is no guest space to just sit and enjoy the surroundings and gardens while having a cup of tea or a glass of wine. The hotel's expectation appears to be that guests will spend their time relaxing in the private spa or in their rooms. The hotel does not provide information on local transport such as buses and trains, which are essential for getting around. Even the 3-times daily free hotel shuttle from Gora Station appears to be a closely guarded secret, which is not relayed to guests even after check-in. The hotel does not provide information on local activities or things to do and see in the area, apart from the art museum which is down the road. The restaurant is oppressively quiet with no ambience. Everyone needs to whisper to avoid being overheard by the other guests in the restaurant. It is not a place to enjoy being in. The wine and beer list is limited and expensive.

- Christine (10/5): Incredible! - This was the most incredible hotel experience I have ever had. The location is absolutely stunning and surrounded by nature. The staff and service are beyond exceptional- we were treated like royalty! The rooms are just beautiful, relaxing, and the beds were super comfortable. Of course we enjoyed the private onsen and did not want to leave. The food was such a treat- truly a culinary masterpiece for both breakfast and dinner (both included in our stay). They provide you with everything you need- all standard amenities, pajamas, bath robes, water, free drinks, even a free midnight snack! How could anyone not love this place and the people. I will be dreaming of my stay for a very long time. Absolutely nothing to dislike.

I was surprised with all the staff attitude from beginning when I arrived (from the driver to the house staffs) I would love to see a varity of dinning menu in the future. There indooor private onsen is really nice and clean, however, there is no public onsen that people can experience like tradition bath house but its understandable and not a big deal. Overall, this was pleasent experienment and I would recommend everyone give it a try. The price is reseanable included breakfast, dinner, mini bars and cars to drop you off around gora station area. I gave it 8.5 +

- Verified traveler (6/5): Not sure what is appealing here - Looking at their official website before we booked our stay, we thought this hotel is a place where you can enjoy the highest quality of French cuisine combined with nice onsen experience. The latter part was true - beds are clean and very comfortable, room is very clean and tide, the bath within the room is simply awesome. But the remained half of our expectation turned out false after we had the French dinner. Apparently all the dishes looked great, but everything was simply too salty, thick-tasted, and sometimes too fatty. We, two adults, paid USD900 ish in total for everything including the dinner, and we would give USD400 more or less for other stuffs apart from the dinner, then we couldn't justify the remainder of USD500 for the dinner for two adults... You can have way better dinner experience for two adults at many restaurants in Tokyo only with USD150. Even in this Hakone area, USD300 would afford you way better French dinner courses for two. We liked the hotel staff and their services but this place is simply overpriced given the disappointing food quality.
- masa (10/5): - 山の中の落ち着いた素敵なホテルです。 部屋に露天風呂が付いておりゆったりくつろげました。アメニティも揃っていますが、女性用の化粧水一式は部屋には無くロビーにお願いすると届けて下さいます。私は自宅から持参しましたので貰いませんでした。お茶やコーヒーも種類豊富。特にお茶は時間毎に違うフレーバーの物を用意して下さっている拘りが。 ディナーはお箸で食べられるフレンチ。一品一品工夫が凝らしてあり目でも楽しめ、量もちょうど良かったです。 夜鳴きそばやミネストローネが食後お部屋で食べられるサービスも有りました。お願いした主人が、急須に入った蕎麦つゆをお茶だと勘違いしたのはご愛嬌。 ホテルの方々は皆さんにこやかでとても親切で、気持ちよく過ごす事ができ良かったです。 又伺う事が出来たらいいな、と思います。
