Guest Reviews
- Steven (9/5): Wonderful stay in a gorgeous, welcoming home overlooking Kandy. - Beautiful homestay in an incredible house overlooking Kandy. The family are welcoming and provide all the help you could want to enjoy your stay. Gorgeous gardens and verandah for enjoying meals outside.
- Leonard (10/5): A room with a view! - Location and host! Nothing.
- Christine (9/5): Great views in Kandy - The views are obviously amazing - day and night. The room is very spacious and everything is very clean. The host is a nice lady - the family lives in the buidling, the room is on top of the house. Breakfast was served in the garden - a nice mix of local and western food. We were even given breakfast packages the morning we had to leave early for a train. it is a bit off locationwise. Walking down to the city is about 15-20 min, up the hill I would recommend a car/tuk tuk. Funny enough it is quite noisy as the sound travels up and you are on top of the hill - so take earplugs if you dont want to be awaken by 5:30h from the chanting.
- Stefan (10/5): Rooftopkamer met 360 view in prachtige villa hoog op de berg - Heel charmante villa hoog op de berg, net boven het drukke Kandy.
Room with a 360 view!
- Elena (10/5): Host ospitale e molto accogliente. Ci ha dato molte informazioni su Kandy e consigli. Ci ha anche trovato un ristorante - La stanza all’ultimo piano era molto pulita e curata, con vista sulla città
- Imran (8/5): -
- Stefana (9/5): Amazing views, lovely hostess, fantastic breakfast - Amazing view from the room, very hospitable lady, superb breakfast and only a 15 minute walk down to the city. For the way back up, a tuktuk is easily arranged. Just great!
- Yuika (9/5): Superb - The owner was super nice and her breakfast was the best!! We are really thankful not only for the owner but who helped and arranged us during the stay here:)
- Mohamad (10/5): Exceptional - First, the host, Anoja, was very friendly, and we had a very nice conversation. Second, the place was spotless, felt homey, and it gave me a sense of comfort the second I walked in. The 360 view where you can see the whole city, including Kandy Lake, is unmatchable. Lastly, I was offered a Western or Sri Lankan breakfast but ended up going with a fusion of both, which was excellent on the porch with a little bit of sunlight.
I definitely recommend this place.
- Sina (9/5): Very confortable and nice stay in Kandy! - The house is very nice and everything is very clean. The people are very nice and helpful. The place is located on a hill which means it has a wonderful view onto Kandy. The walk down to the city center is easy and fast. For the way back up, we preferred to use a Tuktuk :) We definitly recommend the accomodation.
- Fiona (9/5): Superb - We arrived a little early but the host was really accommodating. We had a lovely stay.
- Mukhtiar (9/5): Superb - This was home stay, good views, excellent breakfast (freshly prepared)
- Gillian (10/5): A comfortable stay in Kandy - Beautiful views and an excellent breakfast.
- Lucia (10/5): Amazing Stay 🤩 - The house is amazing, Anoja great and incredibly kind host with big patience. Room was super clean, Anoja was helpful and sweet and she prepared great breakfast combination of western and Sri Lankan. She also found for us driver Tushar with whom we spent 2 days and it was definitely highlight, that we can recommend too 🙂
The room is on the top of their house, but we did not feel unwelcomed or that we would be disturbing anybody, so it was not an issue at all 😊 We liked everything and following are just things for travellers to consider, but for us it was not problem at all:
- it is true that it is up to the steep hill, but that is a price you pay for the beautiful view and you can take always tuk tuk.
-The deluxe room is little bit humid, but it might have been caused by lots of rain while we stayed. If you need to dry clothes, you can ask Anoja to put it out for you.
-Take earplugs, because at 5:30 you will hear a lot of music from mosque and buddhist temple, but I think that is issue for many places😃 With earplugs the sleep was good😃
- Jacalyn (10/5): Amazing stay with a fabulous host - Amazing stay! We booked the room at the top of the house, on top of the hill, with 360 degree views. It was stunning. Comfortable bed, desk, kettle, tea and coffee making facilities best view from the loo (!) - go!
Breakfast was included and Anuja made us traditional delicious Sri Lankan food and beautiful fruit. It is on the top of the hill so yuk yuk up, walk down to Kandy or Big Buddha. Nothing. It was amazing.
- Sridharan (9/5): Superb - The hostess was very kind and helpful
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zoe (9/5): 5 star views in beautiful home walkable distance to Kandy centre - Beautiful home with large room amazing views of Kandy. We were lucky to catch sunrise (photos) which were breathtaking. Anoja was a super friendly and warm host, ready to make your stay special. She also gave us a lot of recommendations to make sure we got the most out of our short stay in Kandy! Beautiful breakfast in the garden provided. Quite hard to drive to if you have hired your own tuktuk due to the hills - but worth it!!
- Tarikur (10/5): Great stay with great views. - Great property if you are looking for peace and quiet. Anuja went out of her way to help. She makes excellent breakfast and has great banter and chat. You won't be bored. Not a criticism of the property but if you like to walk in the morning, evening this isn't the place for you. Having said that, the town is a short tuktuk ride away.
- Sudharaka (9/5): Excellent and Chill Place with an Extremely Nice Host. - The host Anoja was extremely nice and we had a very good stay here. The breakfast each day was marvelous, the location is perfect if you are looking for a chill time. The posting on booking.com mentioned that there's a room with two double beds but unfortunately this is a mistake as there's no such room available. But the host quickly remedied the situation my giving us two separate rooms. However ideally we wanted one room with two beds so this is the only issue we had.
If you are a couple or a single person looking for one room (with one bed) then this is the perfect place. However it should be noted that there's no such room with two double beds; so it's better to message the host and verify beforehand if you are unsure.
- Jessica (9/5): Superb -
- Sulz (10/5): Lovely stay at The Views Kandy - We had a lovely stay at the Views Kandy! The host family was so nice and welcoming. They gave us many ideas what to do in Kandy, organised drivers and met all our needs. The breakfast was lovely arranged in the garden and even through the curfew due to presidential election we got a delicious fresh cooked dinner because all the restaurants were closed. The view from the private balcony of our room over the city was stunning. If we are returning to sri lanka one day, we'll definitely come back to the Views!
- Nina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): A tranquil haven just outside the bustling centre of Kandy - Anoja was a fantastic host - nothing was ever too much trouble. The house was beautiful, in amazing surroundings - a peaceful haven outside the busy city centre of Kandy. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. The view from our room was excellent.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Our hosts were so lovely and kind and the accommodation was spotlessly clean with a very comfortable bed / lovely shower and magnificent views. We arrived after a very long, delayed train ride wishing to find somewhere for dinner and we were touched by the help we received to find somewhere nice. The breakfast was also superb and we left feeling very refreshed. On arrival it seemed the house was quite a long way out of the city centre in a very peaceful location but the following morning we walked into Kandy centre - it didn’t take long and was a nice walk.
- Tania (9/5): Superb - Our stay at the View with Anoja and her family was wonderful. The room is exactly as described online. The view is excellent, the bed is very comfy and the shower is great. The location is also top notch as it allows you to escape the heat and craziness of Kandy city centre. Anoja's house has a great garden and terrace which can be enjoyed at all times. She prepared incredibly delicious breakfasts for us every day, kindly provided tea whenever we asked and helped us navigate the city and organise activities. It is a true homestay, so if you're looking for an impersonal hotel experience, this is not it!
- Kerri (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eoin (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible views overlooking Kandy. Book if you want somewhere quiet and peaceful. Anoja and family are so friendly. I really enjoyed my stay here. It's a tuk tuk into town or about 15mins walk down and up hill.
Best place I stayed in Sri Lanka
Thank you
- Álvaro (10/5): Amazing and unforgettable stay with Anoja! - The 360º room in the top floor is stunning: breathtaking views of Kandy and surroundings, everything was super clean and modern and great AC. Sunrise and sunset from the room was priceless.
The only thing even better than the room and views was Anoja, the lady owning and managing the house. She is the most lovely and charming person I’ve met in Sri Lanka, we chatted for hours and she was really inspiring. She also cooked a delicious breakfast that I enjoyed in the porch!
Definitely a great place to stay and rest from the hustle and bustle of Kandy.
Don’t doubt to book your stay here because not only you will not regret, but it’ll be one of the best experiences you’ll have in Sri Lanka. That I had to leave :(
- Jess (10/5): 1 night in Kandy - We arrived in the afternoon during a rainstorm and didn't have much time in kandy before leaving at 6.30 the next morning. We stayed in the 360 view room and it was cool clean and comfortable The homeowner (sorry I don't remember her name) was so lovely, welcoming and kind, and offered us lots of helpful advice about places to visit during our very short visit and how not to get taken advantage of by local tuk tuk drivers etc. As we left too early for breakfast, she also gave us some fruit from her garden to take away (soursop) which was DELICIOUS!!
- Coriolan (10/5): Exceptional - The friendly and homy atmosphere, and of course the stunning view.
- Emma (10/5): Best place in Kandy - Incredible 360 views. Incredible host. Incredible breakfast. All round incredible lady and Homestay. Made our stay in Kandy. Don’t think just book it. Nothing
- Charles (10/5): Exceptional - This is an exceptional location.High on a hill overlooking Kandy. The upper floor bedroom has a wonderful panoramic view and is comfortable, spacious and clean.
We received a warm welcome from Anoja, a sweet, attentive owner who also provided, at additional cost,an excellent breakfast.
"The Views" is to be strongly recommended.
- John (9/5): Superb - We had a very friendly warm welcome and interesting chats with Anoja. We felt very much at home and well looked after during our stay. Really beautiful house and amazing location with spectacular views. Nothing, all good.
- Marit-inga (10/5): Exceptional - Great views, big and clean room, friendly staff. There was nothing we did not like:) the place is a bit high up in the mountain, so the tuktuks had some difficulties getting up there. But you could walk or get a car to drive you.
- Martin (9/5): Fabulous Views! - The views over Kandy and the area are fantastic. It is very quiet above the city noise.
The host was very helpful and pleasant. We chose a Sri Lankan breakfast option, which was very tasty and enjoyable. The property is high on the hill ( hence the views), but the GPS signal is poor. Suggest you put the location in to your map in advance when you have a good signal, as our sat nav got confused. The owner gave directions, so okay in the end.
Suggest you use a Tuk Tuk to go into Kandy and particularly on the return, as it is a steep climb.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional room with 360 view - Stunning views from 360 apartment, very well equipped and maintained, in grand town villa; permanent breeze (at times storm) to cool down; good value for money; good WIFI
- María (10/5): Great stay in Kandy - Beautiful house and gorgeous garden. Spectacular views. Everything is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Breakfast is marvellous. Mrs. Anoja is the perfect host, she is a very agreeable person, makes you feel very welcome and helps you with anything you may need. Everything was perfect.
- Sayan220 (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (9/5): Beautiful location, breakfast and host! - If you like being out of the hustle and bustle of the busy noisy city the The Views is the perfect place. We loved the quiet neighbourhood and being surrounded by nature. Our room had a balcony looking out on the valley and the mountain which was pretty spectacular. We spent many an hour bird watching and even saw fire flys one night.
We were so well looked after too. Breakfast was AMAZING! We were offered a kettle so that we could make hot drinks in our room too.
It was so lovely to stay in what is essentially a beautiful family home. Great value for money too. It's a 15 minute walk down the mountain into the heart of Kandy. We didn't walk back up, we got a tuk tuk!
Worth getting the Pick Me app to save on the journey
- Buse (10/5): If I come to Kandy there is no place that I would rather go. The best place I’ve ever stayed! - Anoja was so helpful, I’m glad we met her she helped us and guide us in our Kandy visit and her house is so clean that my white socks didn’t even get ruined😂 Nothing🤍
- Max (10/5): Exceptional - Our host was a pleasure
Very sweet
The view is also great The bathroom window was a bit weird but ok
- Maclaine (10/5): Tranquil - The location, high above Kandy Town, brought wonderful views. However, it wasn't so easy to locate. Mrs. Anojin was helpful in responding to calls from drivers for directions. The house and hosting can best be described as genteel and the setting was a pretty flower-filled garden. Breakfast served on the terrace was delicious and accompanied by little black and white finches. Wifi was available in public areas but intermittent in the guest room. This was a stay with a difference and highly recommended to visitors seeking sophistication and quiet.
- Stefan (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful house, with an beautiful view to Kandy. Very polite owner and staff. One of the cleanest places I have ever been to.
- Cornelia (10/5): Exceptional - Anoja is so polite an honest an a very respectful person. I celebrated my birthday there alone. She was waiting for me with a cookie an a candle singing happy birthday late at night. Breakfast was perfect.
- Nadin (10/5): Exceptional - The view was beautiful, the house is big, very clean and quiet. The room as well was spacious, clean. The hosts were very welcoming and kind. It felt like being at home.
- Irena (8/5): Good stay :-) - Nice house, nice room, good view over Kandy Bit too far (you need a tuk tuk to get there), you can hear trains from the station at night honking (it wakes you up)
- Ksenia (10/5): Exceptional - This is a house with a high quality renovation, and tastefully decorated. inside is quiet, calm.
- Leo (10/5): Exceptional - The 360 degree Mountain View room was absolutely beautiful, even better than the pictures. The owner is also very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in Kandy.
- Anneke (9/5): Superb -
- Tiia (7/5): Quiet and peaceful place. At the top of the mountain with wonderful views. - A beautiful 360-degree view of the city and nature opened from the windows of the room. Silent. A beautiful garden. Breakfast was served on the garden terrace. The toilet flush box system did not work very well. It must be taken into account that the accommodation is located uphill.
- George (10/5): I found my Shangri-La at The Views, in Kandy! - My hosts Anoja and Upali really could not be nicer people. They treated me as one of their family, cooked lovely authentic Sri Lankan lunches for me and gave me great advice on what to do and see in Kandy - and the surrounding region.
If you are the mature sort of person who would appreciate living in a grand colonial-style, peaceful, homely residence in a beautiful, hilltop location overlooking Kandy, with a quiet, serene ambience, fabulous gardens and VIEWS to die for - look no further!
I have found my perfect Shangri-La in Sri Lanka! I will be back next year for a whole month !!!
Please note: Although Booking.com is showing me as a Sri Lankan for some reason, I am actually British and live in the UK and Canada! It could be because I bought a Sri Lankan sim card on arrival here and they have my SL phone number ??? No downsides for me, but be aware that this is a family home and it's perfect for quiet, mature guests who respect the family and the house.
If you are seeking to create a loud, party environment every evening and you need a modern-look hotel, or noisy nightlife - you should look elsewhere and maybe find a place in the town.
- Yusuf (10/5): Scenic and spacious accommodation with the loveliest host - Our host was the most delightful and sweet person weve had the good fortune of meeting. Much like the rest of the Sri Lankan population!
She was very kind, happy and gave great advice. Not to mention delicious breakfasts tailor made to our preferences with lovely fresh fruits and juices.
The views from the garden were incredible. Perfect hillside view of Kandy. The spacious bedroom had panoramic views of Kandy which was stunning day and night. Not to mention its comfortable beds.
Conveniently located a short distance from kandy with an auto/tuk tuk uber. It was perfect for our stay in Kandy N/a
