- Christopher (8/5): - Really lovely, authentic Japanese homestay. The host is friendly and welcoming. House is well-equipped. We liked the quiet location, traditional house and the private onsen was an excellent addition. We were delivered coffee and eggs in the morning directly to our room.
- MASAKO (10/5): -
- Salomón Hernández (10/5): Definitely want to go back, but dinner can be difficult - Very convenient location, the room was very large and comfortable, for one person, but it could easily fit more. The owner was very kind and tried her best to communicate despite my limited japanese. The breakfast was not amazing, but good enough to start the day. Despite going in the winter, the room warmed up once the heater was turned on. I was worried that I would be cold because of the large windos and the wooden floor, but that did not happen. The room, and the house in general, were very quiet. There are vending machines a small walk away (aprox. 5 min), but no convenience stores and very few restaurants. The hotel offers breakfast, so it isn't a big deal in the mornings. However, eat dinner before heading back for the night. Since there are few restaurants, they tend to have waiting times.
- Patricia (9/5): Lovely Peaceful Japanese Homestay Close to Gora Station - Kinreisou was very peaceful and clean. The room was spacious and bright, and the bathroom had a private onsen. The owner was very nice and kindly provided a small breakfast each morning which was unexpected. The homestay is about a 10 minute walk to Gora station.
- Krishnakumar (7/5): Good for 1 night. - . For the price, it is good. Also there was no breakfast in the morning as other reviews say and they also never mentioned it. But they do provide tea. WiFi has issues and many insects joined me at my bed at night. Maybe this is normal and I am complaining for no reason. Thankfully I had insect spray and I was able to stop the biting. Even if windows are closed, insects and mosquitoes somehow found a way to enter.

- Filip (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing homestay within local family - was surprised by inhouse onsen and small breakfeast wating infornt of my door in the morning. The japanese room was gorgeaus.
- Simeon (9/5): Bargain for a relaxing stay outside of Tokyo - The location has convenient transport to the rest of the area. The room was big and felt traditional. The onsen/bath was great.
- Jialiang, (7/5): Good -
- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Guillaume (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed the place !
Confortable accomadation with traditionnal room and onsen.
A lovely host with kind attention.
We will come back for sure!
- Ruslan (10/5): I arrive very late, it the morning I had light breakfast - It is absolutely Zen place
And silver onsen in the bathroom !
I were staying on second floor and I love that place
I’ll come back again for longer time, it is magical place to practice Serinyoku meditation cos forest around I like the spirit of the family
- Petr (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely stylish ryokan with great host and private hot onsen. We enjoyed the typical room and wardrobes. We also got a decent breakfast in the morning. It is a bit uphill from the train station. Also the whole area (Gora) was deserted after 6 PM, we couldn't find anywhere to eat, luckily there is one convenience store open til 10 pm.
- Nicholas (9/5): Superb -
- Staiko (7/5): Good -
- Steven.z (9/5): Superb -
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Elke (7/5): Pretty ok - The private onsen was a bonus. The host was very kind and last day even boiled two eggs for us. The area was quiet after sunset about 4.30 pm with no activities available to do. We normally reach back by 6 from other areas because just the tram ride us from hakone town centre takes 30 minutes.
- Zi (7/5): Good value for money - The hostel is located on uphill. Hence u have to walk and climb for 15mins from Gora Station. I love the private onsen as well. And the host is able to speak simple english. Overall, i am happy for the price i paid. Even with the heater is on, the room is still cold (december) due to its location and its traditional japanese architecture.
- Ye (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tianyu (5/5): Long distance to nearest train station, common bath area is so shabby and we didn’t dare to use it. The facility is with - Shabby
- Ta (10/5): Exceptional - The old lady is very nice and accommodating. She let me leave my luggage after checkout. The room is pretty good for the price as well. The onsen is relaxing and you can also wear a yukata. It's far away from any convenience stores and you gotta plan ur dinner accordingly.
- Jovita (10/5): Would happily stay again. - I really enjoyed the authentic aesthetic of the property. The kimono provided and the tea were lovely as well. I did not expect any breakfast, so getting the simple breakfast was an added bonus. The host was lovely and welcoming. Onsen was really hot and it was great to experience it. I was not a fan of the buckwheat pillow. I understand its healthy but not my cup of tea. I still slept througout the night. Also the wooden frame of the window cover was moving with the wind causing some noise.
- Helen (8/5): Japanese Reginal lifestyle - Place nearby station
Traditional Japanese reginal town lifestyle
Reach place with cable car ride was interesting
The park in town worth to visit Nothing really.
Surrounding by natural, early morning can hear birds singing
- Valerian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elisa (10/5): Great ryokan - Cozy and quiet room, great position and hospitable hosts. The onsen was really nice and really hot. They provided yukatas and a simple breakfast of tea and hardboiled eggs.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Akhan (6/5): Pleasant - found no one at check in
- Eliam (9/5): Superb - Private onsen was great, friendly host. Close to cable car. Very authentic old Japanese ryokan Steep walk up to Ryokan, but definitely worth it.
- Diego (8/5): Very good -
- Summer (9/5): Lovely accommodation, great host providing hot water for green tea twice a day, kimonos and small sn -
- Saveli (9/5): Superb -
- Hei (10/5): Exceptional - The staff are so nice!
- Jared (10/5): Incredible gem in Gora, 💯 recommend - The owners were so kind and hospitable and the house was a beautiful traditional home with private onsen!
- Wai (9/5): Peaceful Jaoanese 'home' stay in Hakone - A comfortable ryokan that is 2.cable car stops from Gora Station. A very peaceful and quiet place if you lwant to get away from all the bustles of city life. Very hospitable couple managing the place who will let you go about doing your own things. The home bathtub was piping hot, looking milky with all the minerals in the water. If you want a real feel of staying at a Japanese house, sleeping on tatami n futon, this would be a good place to try out, at a reasonable price. A simple breakfast is served every morning too. Well, Gora in Hakone is not exactly the best terrain for easy walking, most places are up or down slopes. Convenience store is also 1 station away. However, I found quite a lot of people walking around, up and down slopes. I guess if you are mentally prep for that , it's ok.
- Kendall (9/5): Superb - Loved the traditional feel of the ryokan. It is simple but comfortable - our room was spacious for us to spread out, eat, etc. Lovely to have the private onsen - very mineral rich and hot natural hot spring water. And our host was very gracious, appreciated the simple breakfast and attention to our needs.
- Igor (8/5): Very good - Very good price for the Hakone area. Spacious traditional room with a small onsen. It's a bit farther from the train station than it seemed, and it's also uphill, which makes it a bit cumbersome to climb with luggage (walking is a stroll).
- Jean-christophe (8/5): Very nice stay at Hakone -
- Vismantas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Владимир (10/5): authentic Japanese house. - Everything. The property is in authentic Japanese style, with onsen and comfortable futon beds. The host was very friendly and nice. She unexpectedly provided us breakfast in the morning.
You will feel like you have a proper Japanese experience. Nothing.
- Jimmy (10/5): Overall is excellent experience highly recommend. - Private onsen is superb. The breakfast (additional fee but reasonable) is traditional Japanese breakfast which is very delicious. The landlady can speak a bit English and is very friendly. No train access after 7 pm. You need to walk uphill for 13 min to get there.
- Sergei (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vincent (10/5): Exceptional - If I could rate above 10, I would. Such a nice place and felt so authentically Japanese. I slept so well & the onsen was so nice and the host made everything that bit extra special. Morning and evening tea and snack was such a nice touch - I was sad to leave.
- Guzy (10/5): Exceptional - Great place to feel authentic Japanese house. I would definitely stay once again! Nothing. All was good
- Rick (8/5): Very good -
- Louis (9/5): Excellent stay at Kinreisou. - A very pleasant stay. The location is very nice. Close to the city, but there is no sound disturbance. Very calm with a nice view from the street on the valley.
The house itself is very cosy and the rooms are extremely comfortable. Everything is nice : the tatami bed, the room itself, and the decoration.
And there is even one more big plus. The owner. She is the nicest, most helpful person. She brings you a very nice little breakfast not long after you're awake. She brings some tea and is always there if you need anything. She is interested in what you do here and is, in general, an exquisite person to talk to.
The onsen is very agreeable. Made out of stone and equipped with a shower, it's the perfect place to sit back and relax in the evening.
Overall, it was a very, very nice stay.
- Niels (9/5): Superb -
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maksim (10/5): Exceptional - Very cosy place in traditional Japanese style. Lovely and hospital owners. Highly recommend everyone to feel yourself closer to country’s culture. Temperature of hot spring is so hot that it’s really difficult to get in. Probably it’s better to mix it with some cold water.
Since rooms don’t have central heating it’s better to use portable heater during the night.
- Anastasia (7/5): Good facilities, but a bit dated. - The location was great and a little home made breakfast was a bonus. The property is quite dated and there are electric heaters in the rooms, which smell like petrol, so there is quite an unpleasant smell all around. The curtains are old and dirty, you need to sleep on the floor next to a wardrobe, I was concern with some spiders or insects crawling over us at night.
- Daniela (10/5): Exceptional - Traditional stay which we greatly enjoyed. Room was big and we had complimentary tea throughout the stay. Onsen was wonderful and private which you'd normally have to pay a lot for! Close to 2 cable car stations so if you are using a freepass then you never really have to walk uphill. The beds were comfortable and we had some privacy. Shino-san was very kind and attentive and the small breakfast was always very nice. The bean filled pillow is not for everyone, my dad liked it but I did not so much, but it was not a big issue at all I still slept well.
- Cindy (10/5): Shino san is amazing ! We loved staying there and would 100% recommend. -
- Dennis (10/5): Proper japanese experience - Nice onsen, little breakfast and tee.
Amazing and calm vibe
- Ran (6/5): Pleasant - It's OK for one night.
A bit far from everything.
Traditional beds were very comfortable. Was a bit cold and gloomy
- Zemin (9/5): Superb -
- Gabriele (9/5): Superb -
- Chin (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely host, they're sweet and try their best to serve you and speak to you in English. If you love traditional houses - this is as authentic as it can be at a budget price. Room is super spacious.
- James (4/5): Everything but the heater was great. - very convenient with a short walk to the cable car. The heater. It produced a noxious smell that really bothered my wife. Especially troubling is the need to turn it back on since it only ran for two hours. At night we simply used the ample blankets in the closet to stay warm, but it was 6 degrees in the room when we woke up. When we returned from being out for the day, it was 3 degrees on in the room. Both temps came from the heater display when it was set for 17 but not running. Unacceptable. Would not recommend unless they fix with a heater that operates on its own when the temperature is selected.
- Chaiyapat (9/5): Great place with a fantastic and helpful owner, but do prepare to face the coldness of winter - The place is tiny but cozy. The vibe was a Japanese house, where the guest room where we stayed was on the second floor. The owner of the place was welcoming and full of Japanese hospitality. She recommended us a place to eat and also helped evaluate our travel plans. The service was minimal. There was some snack (it was really delicious) and hot tea when we arrived, and some boiled egg with tea for breakfast. The room and the place are filled with the Japanese vibe that some might look for. As Gora is near the onsen source, the bath (with onsen water) is located inside the house, which is small but private. We were surprised by how well-maintained the toilet looks. We traveled during the winter and were not entirely adapted to the cold. The room is equipped with a kerosene heater (I believe, not sure how to call it); however, it was small and couldn't keep up with the outside 5-degree Celcius temperature. Also, we wouldn't want to leave it on for too long as the smell was unpleasant. The comfiness of the futon helped quite a bit. We had to wake up in the cold, which wasn't ideal.
- César (9/5): Superb -
- Tan (8/5): Is a nice place to stay n kove the onsen - I like the room, the hospitality of the staff Is a bit of walking distance from the station. Please bring a light luggage as the place quite hilly. Make sure u buy some food or had your dinner before going back to the hotel. This is because the closest restaurant n convenient store is like 1.5km away.
