Guest Reviews
- Rebecca (8/5): Clean, well appointed and comfy stay - The room was clean with a lovely array of complimentary drinks to choose from. Everything was cleanly decorated and a comfy bed. There was no secure entry system or receptionist so anyone could walk in off the street right up to room
- John (10/5): Warm friendly welcome and departure from staff. Spacious and spotless room. - Great location for visiting Beamish Open Air Museum.
Exceptionally clean and spacious room. Comfortable bed. Nothing to dislike

- Janet (9/5): Handy place to stay. - Lovely staff.vey handy for visit to Beemish No food available on the days we were there. Door lock very awkward to operate. A new sink, plug and tap..both need adjustment. Please think about some hooks in the bathroom. ( and some hot water to the sink would be nice!)
- Helen (9/5): - I've lost count of the time,s My husband and I have stayed here. It's very convenient for visiting my son and hos wife. It's a self check in with a code for a key safe. No one is onreception. But there if a phone number if you need assistance. The rooms are functional and clean. Comfy beds . With no one been on reception we always bring extra tea coffee sugar etc. The cleaners we met were lovely and did ask us if there's is anything we needed. Range,s next door is lovely place to eat . But its not open on a Monday or Tuesday. There's a one stop 5 mins walk if you need anything and a start bucks asda Aldi close by . Our room number 18. Has a table and chairs. The plastic chairs are not the comfiest so it would be a idea to get more comfortable chairs to sit on to have cuppa and read . Another small thing would be to have a extra lamp in the room rather then having the main light on. . There's are not critics but more personal preference. . Overall the room is comfortable clean and functional.
- Standley (10/5): Overall , very good. - Self contained and clean. The email link for the keys.
- vanessa (10/5): Excellent stay for my employees, home from home would definitely recommend -
- Joanne (10/5): -
- jamie (6/5): Ok, may stay again - Close to town Centre and Golf Course
Very Clean room Check in Confusing due to being Digital
Had no Access to Emails
No bar facilities as advertised
No breakfast due to restaurant being closed

- Olga (3/5): - We had a mixed experience at this hotel. The room itself was relatively clean, but unfortunately very humid. The window couldn’t be opened due to it being a fire exit, and the door also didn’t allow for ventilation, which made the stay quite uncomfortable.
The most disappointing part, however, was the check-out process. We were delayed for quite some time because the reception staff were unable to confirm our payment through Booking.com. While we understand that technical or system issues can happen, the situation was handled poorly. We were asked to pay again in full and then reclaim the money ourselves from Booking.com, which is not acceptable. I’m glad we refused to make a double payment.
This resulted in us being held up unnecessarily, with young children waiting in the car, while staff contacted their manager and tried to resolve the issue step by step.
Overall, while the room was passable, but inefficient handling at check-out left a negative impression. I hope the hotel has since addressed these issues for future guests.
- Sharon (6/5): Hotel was in an ideal place to where I was going. The restaurant next door to the hotel was nice - It was ideal for where I wanted to go. The telly could have been bigger and ideally air-con would have been good. The drains was quite smelly aswell
- Emily (6/5): - The staff were very welcoming they also suggested the restaurant next door and that was great. The room was very clean. In our room there was a green light in the center of the kitchen with the bed facing it. The light flickered all night and was extremely bright I barely got 3 hours of sleep. Me and my partner both looked around and flicked many switches and we couldn't get the light to turn off. Other than this we both had a really pleasant stay.

- c7ed792c2cc670a19a851b32f2adcb29 (5/5): A clean and neat room - The room was clean and bright We found the door locking messy and confusing.

- 07c89b479c8a70e961baab9951b9098c (7/5): - Comfortable bed, clean room generally a good stay Several issues, basin plug and shower screen leaked, toilet seat loose, bed and bathroom windows draughts and whistles clothes hanging rail inadequate
- fb71c02b317b73af2eaa67b0fe40e645 (8/5): Very good for what was required. - Obtaining key and instruction were very good. Room was good size. Comfortable bed. Room was clean. Some signs of wear and tear in room but nothing major. Heating worked and room temperature was comfortable.Shower room and toilet clean and in a good state of repair. Tea and coffee facilities good More milk cartons - suggest 10 off. More than 2 biscuits - suggest 4 or 6. There is receptionist after certain time but service can be obtained by phone.

- Joanne (10/5): Nice surrounding value for money - Nicely decorated Accessibility and kitchen facilities in the room
- BabsyBaby (6/5): Good location if you are travelling to Beamish - The area was excellent for travelling to Beamish.
The room was clean and the staff were friendly. Plenty tea and coffee in the room.
The food was excellent from Rangos next door. We ate there both nights. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Thank you! The bed was a 3/4 bed, not a double bed, which we paid for a double room. The lady on reception did ask us if we wanted to move on the 2nd night due to them having a spare room, but we were on our way out for the evening, so just stayed where we were.
We had 3 deep steps down to the bathroom, which should have been advertised when we booked the room. Anyone with mobility issues would not have been able to use the bathroom. The handrail in the bathroom was starting to come off the wall, which didn't bother us, but could be a problem for others.
There was a large cigarette burn on the white table, with a book over the top of it.
The walls are very thin, allowing you to hear what others are saying.
- Peter (6/5): - Pretty cheap price. Tea and coffee maker. Clean. Double bed was on the small size.
Its an unstaffed hotel. The stated tel number would not connect to offsite staff and 2 emails went unanswered for a (albeit fairly non-essential) query. This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE if a hotel is choosibg an unmanned operation mode. I also felt the automatic main door was a very poor security feature. Anyone coukd get in or follow a resident in.
- George (8/5): - The staff was really helpful and the lady at reception even went out of her way to show us where to go. The bed was 2 singles pushed together instead of a double we booked.
TV remote doesn't work back missing of the remote and I think the batteries were flat.
- Cara (8/5): -
- Jim (9/5): - Clean and tidy rooms very friendly staff helpful
- Christine (10/5): - The staff are really helpful
- Walker (10/5): - All good 👍 staff were brilliant and very helpful 👍 location just what we needed 😃 We liked it all but could have been just a little more warmer 😁
- Lorraine (9/5): -
- David (8/5): -
- Michelle (8/5): - The hotel is great , lots of space in the room , comfy bed , very clean , loved the shower gel etc
Good location for visiting Beamish
Great tea selection The lock on the door was very tricky amd we thought a few times the door wasnt going to open .
A full length mirror and more plug sockets would be a good addition.
There were fabulous tea selection but very poor coffee choice , coffee bags would be a lovely touch.
- shazza (10/5): -
- Vanessa (8/5): Great access to the C2C cycle trail - Location to the C2C trail and Durham.
Room was lovely and clean with plenty of tea, coffee etc.
Beds really comfy - see below regarding pillows The tv would come on by itself in the middle of the night. (Maybe someone else's remote activating it from another room)
Could have done with some hooks in the bathroom and possibly a shelf or stool to put things on whilst using the bathroom instead of on the floor.
The pillows were the biggest let down as they were a bit like bricks - we had to get one for my Mom as she could not sleep. Left in room as we were travelling home by train.
- ching-ping (5/5): -
- Mountain (10/5): - It was clean and tidy, just what we needed. Nothing
- Hedina (5/5): - Kein Fön vorhanden.
Kein Personal vorhanden.
- shazza (10/5): -
- Jade (10/5): High recommend this hotel for stay/long period stays - Love the location where the property is, second time staying will be booking again for a longer stay in the family apartment always clean and the staff are always there incase need anything before they go home also staff make you feel so welcome I liked everything not a bad word to say about it
- Ian (4/5): Disappointing, its cheap but not good value - The attached restaurant was pretty good, Two lights not working in the bathroom for 2 days, TV remote control didn't work properly and couldn't be fixed. Walls were very thin and the place is noisy, shower was a dribble. Limited parking. No staff after 7 PM. Complicated online check in.
- Tony (6/5): Good place but poor customer service - Very clean Don’t reply to messages and the telephone number doesn’t work. Promised 1pm check in which i had to pay for but this wasn’t possible. Was then told its 2pm but on all paperwork it was 1pm. Asked for invoice but no joy at the moment.
- Stan (10/5): -
- leanne (10/5): - Clean Small bed
- Jade (10/5): Overall would stop again - Clean and tidy and warm Pillows were abit hard and someone smoking cannabis outside which was coming in through the window
- joyates1971 (10/5): Great clean hotel - This is the second time we’ve stayed at Hotel 52. The staff are incredibly helpful and polite. The room we had was immaculate. Plenty of tea and coffee available in the room. New and fresh furniture and decor. I’m a bit of a clean freak and was more than satisfied with en-suite bathroom. I noticed the shower basin was super clean as was the taps and toilet. I’m booking another stay for next week. I recommend this hotel.
- leanne (10/5): Leq - Got to. Stay in the same room for. 2 nights Everything was kk.
- tracy (10/5): Comfy, cosy stay at a gre ad t price. Thank you. - Friendly welcome always. Staff always so accommodating. Clean comfy and warm. Nothing.
- angiebaby101 (10/5): Hotel 52 - Stayed for two nights at Hotel 52.....fab stay ! Spotlessly clean and nothing to much trouble....have stayed before and will definitely stay again
- leanne (10/5): -
- Nicole (4/5): We wouldn’t book again. - The room was very clean and spacious. We ended up leaving at 1am and driving home due to the noise from the guest above.
- Louise (10/5): Amazing place to stay - Room was amazing seperate living room to the bedroom. Had everything you would ever need from kettle to cutlery oven to microwave, coffee, sugar. Great location. Best nights sleep had in ages the bed was that comfortable. The list goes on would definitely recommend and if I'm ever staying near that area again il will definitely be booking again. Thank you. Nothing absolutely loved this place.
- Eleanor (8/5): -
- Jack (9/5): -
- Lee (8/5): -
- Irene (10/5): Perfect - Ideal location and excellent quality /choice of breakfast Nothing
- Chris (10/5): - Lovely spacious, comfortable place Nothing
- Tracy (5/5): Clean, central for me, but lack of info and hairdryer not good - Breakfast was lovely, only had it one day as unable to get in, but apparently you enter from the main outside door when, the enturnel door is locked. Staff in the restaurant were lovely. The rooms and building inside were beautifully clean. There was no information booklet about anything to do with the hotel, ie times of breakfast, where its located. Information about the gym, can guests use it? Just the basic information that people need. No hairdryer, the only time I don't bring one there isn't one, almost every hotel I've stayed in has a hairdryer. I had no spare toilet roll, looked like half a roll on the holder, so had to think about the amout I used, (finished it the morning I left). Could not turn the TV off with the remote, all the other buttons worked but unable to turn off and on had to do it on the TV.
- Lorraine (10/5): - Used once before hence this booking. Attended a wedding locally so was ideal. Room was a good size, bed was very comfortable, plenty space, tea, coffee, milk 😁. More than other places we have stayed. One thing that was missing was a chair in room.
Had breakfast in rangos, hubby had the full English. Was plenty and hubby really enjoyed it.
Would recommend 😁 All was good nothing to dislike..
- Kathryn (9/5): -
- Alan (8/5): -
- Joshua (1/5): -
- william (8/5): clean, efficient, relaxing. - the food in Rangos was very good.
The whole place was clean especially the room.
The lift was a godsend as I struggle with stairs.
This was our 2nd visit and we will definately come again. We would have preferred someone on Reception even just to help with local info, but the cleaner was very helpful.
- Ste (7/5): Good value, nice bright room - Plenty of space, bright, clean rooms. Friendly staff when we arrived. Radiator valve in bedroom didn’t work, so heating on fully all night, very hot room making it uncomfortable to sleep.
- leanne (6/5): No sleep - Bed was comfy There were stains on the floor when we got in the room last night the extractor fan wouldn't stop all night so no sleep
- Helen (8/5): Good location for our needs. - There is no breakfast on a Monday Tuesday as Rangos is closed but we have had breakfast there before and its lovely.
We stayed at hotel 52 because of the location.
I requested a double bed as last time we got 2 single beds pushed together and I had bad back. We did get our double bed . There was only one lamp so it was either put the main light on or just these one lamp. Another lamp on the table woul have been a nice touch.
- leanne (10/5): - Having the extra bed Struggled with stairs
- leanne (10/5): Lea - Collect key wen ever Noisy residents
- Smith (10/5): -
- Newa (1/5): -
- Kieran (8/5): -
- Richard (8/5): -
- Daniel (9/5): -
- Gemma (9/5): Great - The lady greeting us we remembered from last time, lovely and friendly, the keys are easy to get, and the rooms are clean with everything you need
We were surprised it got cleaned for a 2 night stay, that was a bonus
We love how close to Beamish this hotel is Our rooms were across from each other so I had a stranger as a neighbour and he was shouting down the phone early morning and late night which I could hear through the wall, angry and swearing so I didn't feel I could approach him myself and having no 24 HR reception I had noone to go to
- Guest (7/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Very nice -
- tambhoy (7/5): - The staff are very friendly and helpful The room was small and basic for £100 a night
- barry (6/5): Was a pleasant stay apart from heating and no hot water - Staff were lovely couldn’t fault them. The room was clean. There was no hot water in room or bathroom at Room 22 at all. Even letting run no hot water would come through. I turned the radiator down to 0 as the room was roasting. The room cooled down and I put radiator back up to 5 on our last night and the heating wouldn’t come on The radiator in bathroom didn’t work. We had 2 broken chairs in the room too.
- leanne (8/5): - Liked everything People slamming doors at 1am n shouting tgen slamming doors at 6am not goid
Also blood on bed sheet
- Tracey (10/5): - Easy check in There was nothing
- Helen (8/5): Clean hotel - The hotel is very close to were my son lives and ideal we stay here a lot .Rango restaurant is really nice . But not open on a Monday or Tuesday. The fact there's no Staff on reception can be a issue if you have any problems. I bought little milk cartoms to take with us luckily enough as we ran out .I booked a double room expecting a double bed. But it was 2 single beds pushed together which wasn't very comfortable. This is something I will mention when booking again.
- Cara (2/5): - Room was lovely, clean and spacious Walls very very thin so was noisy from approx 5am, people showering and using toilet etc
- DeeDee (9/5): Good stay. Great value . Recommend. - Great value. Clean .warm .tea coffee . Nice towels .comfy bed. Clean smells. Good. Quiet . Will deffo stay again. This is great value hotel . No one on reception but someone on the end of the phone , constantly available. It's basic. But I will definitely stay there again.
- eric (8/5): -
- Roger (9/5): - Central to town
- Carleton (10/5): Great stay - Jeanette was very helpful and informative. It would be helpful for disabled people have access to a seat in the shower. My wife is wheelchair bound.
- Joanne (10/5): - The location was excellent for what we wanted it for . We did not have breakfast . There was plenty of coffee/ tea and milk available in the room . We were only staying one night so didn’t have anything negative to report.
- brooks (8/5): -
- Gareth (8/5): -
- leanne (10/5): - Everything so clean and tidy
- James (8/5): - The room was clean and tidy, everything needed was in the room such as towels soap, coffee and tea and biscuits were supplied and when called upon the staff were very friendly and helpful. Had a small problem with the shower, but the staff rectified the issue .
- Waterhouse (8/5): - Location. Check in arrangements Wasn't sure what to do with key when checking out
- Simpson (8/5): - Nice room comfy bed No breakfast
- Stewart (4/5): - Had a gym The sink basin was ripped off in the main toilet.
- Malcolm (8/5): Very corfomfortable - spacious, modern comfortable room, excellent lighting. No breakfast.
- Brian Robert (8/5): Comfortable stay. A fairly basic hotel but absolutely adequate for our needs. - Breakfasts in the restaurant were very generous size.
The manager went out specially to buy a hair dryer as there wasn't one in the room nor any spares in the building. There could have been a hair dryer in the first place.
- Helen (8/5): - The location is good.Easy to check in. Key box Comfortable beds . Rooms adequate Weve stayed here a few times now. But this time there was no one on reception and I didnt realise there was no breakfast on a Monday or Tuesday as the restaurant next door Rangos is shut. This was the key reason we actually booked for the breakfast. It was made clear until I had booked it .So this is something that would probably stop us from staying here again.
- Barbara (7/5): -
