Guest Reviews
- Rebecca (10/5): -
- Richard (9/5): great stay in a unique hotel - lovely stay in a fabulous building so much history and lots of character
the bedroom was well equipped comfortable with a lovely bathroom, powerful shower and complementary soaps etc
all the staff were very friendly and helpful sone paintwork looking a bit tired in the bedroom
Pulizia ottima. La stanza era un po' buia.
- Stewart (9/5): -
- Matt (10/5): - Stylish and great location. Great breakfast
- Nardulli (5/5): Disappointing. - Breakfast was adequate. The dinner restaurant was very good, as was the bar. The exterior of the building was grand and made for great pictures . The room was plagued with gnats and the staff was indifferent toward our concerns. The interior was fairly rundown.
- Alex (10/5): - It is a fantastic setting, being the old county council building with some unique period features. Breakfast and dinner are served in the council chamber, which was a great setting with good food. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
- Wendy (8/5): -
- Joanne (10/5): Unique Hotel - Love the Hotel Indigo in Durham such a gorgeous building blending both old and new. The location is fab too 5 minute walk to centre of Durham. Nothing.
- Matthew (10/5): My go to place when - Everything Nothing
- Chris (7/5): Enjoyed - Conveniently situated A bit like a rabbit warren
- Janda (9/5): More attention to hospitality detail needed to match the splendour of the building - The most incredible historic building. Absolutely beautiful. The extremely grubby carpet that wasn’t cleaned to get into our room. The unimaginative (and often left in a mess) cold breakfast buffet.
- Imogen (10/5): - great breakfast. Room was fab. Whole experience was extremely good. weird airfreshener smell / chemical aroma in the room when I arrived.
- Marjan (8/5): Comfortable stay for a city trip - The best hotel shower ever! Very comfortable room for a few days city trip. We enjoyed cocktails in the bar, next time we'll try the restaurant. The food in the Neighbourhood Coffee House was a little underwhelming. The avocado on toast seemed more like a shop bought spread than fresh avocado. All sandwiches lacked creativity.
- LESLEY (10/5): -
- Kate (10/5): Really lovely hotel, warm friendly staff, lovely food and clean, comfortable rooms with good amenities. - A real nice mix between old and new. Nothing.
- Ellen (8/5): -
- Samantha (10/5): -
- Nick (8/5): -
- Philip (9/5): Location and room ideal for for us visiting Durham. Staff so friendly and helpful - Staff were very friendly and helpful, room was a good size. Location idea to walk to the castle and cathedral A bit hard to find reception. We parked on the street and walked in an entrance but had to ask directions to reception
- Tashana (10/5): Really lovely and clean hotel. - It was very clean, great location also. Nothing
- Scheherazade (8/5): -
- Farhad Mansour (10/5): -
- MAURO (9/5): A very pelasant stay (and a good quality breakfast) - I was very satisfied with all services offered by the hotel: my room, in particular, was very clean, spacious and quiet.
I also have to mention breakfast: you have to pay an extra, if you want to have it, but it's really worth it
- Clara (9/5): ALBERGO OTTIMO, CON OTTIMA POSIZIONE, PERSONALE E SERVIZI OTTIMI - PERSONALE MOLTO DISPONIBILE
MOLTA ATTENZIONE ALLE INTOLLERANZE ALIMENTARI ODORE, TIPICO UN PO' DEI LOCALI INGLESI CON MOQUETTE/LEGNO
- Julie (10/5): -
- Tom (10/5): Excellent. Recommended! - Beautiful and unique building. Bit of a maze to navigate at first but that is part of the charm. Great room, felt very private. Location is prime with views of the cathedral and right in the city centre. Only tiny complaint is curtains wouldn’t close fully which let in light earlier than we’d have liked.
- Paul (9/5): Great staff amazing building lovely room - Hard to put into words very old building very carefully and considerately restored Nothing
- Zoe (10/5): -
- Robert (8/5): -
- Junming (9/5): -
- Richard (9/5): - Friendly staff, great rooms and fantastic restaurants
- Amanthi (10/5): Perfect location for seeing Durham - Beautiful property and great rooms - ideal location
- Catriona (10/5): Lovely two night stay in this beautiful hotel. - Beautiful, historic building. Lovely, comfortable rooms which were well equipped with everything we needed. Very good breakfast, excellent dinner at the steakhouse. Friendly and attentive staff. Nothing
- Patrick McGurk (9/5): -
- Anna (8/5): Very pleasant - would return - Staff were very welcoming and friendly at all points of our stay
Breakfast delicious
Comfy beds and nice bedding
Good shower, nice towels etc Room needed an overhead light
Pillows hard and lumpy - I should have asked if there was an alternative
Not enough water in the room/fridge
- Janet (10/5): -
- Danny (8/5): Very enjoyable - Unique Elements of the cooked breakfast were very ‘dry’ and tough to eat. I didn’t complain as we were last in so felt that this was probably the reason. Food drying out over time!
- Rhona (8/5): - Lovely property in an excellent location. Staff were extremely helpful I did discover a bit of cheese under the wardrobe - we didn’t have cheese so this had been missed in cleaning! Minor niggle, stay was lovely
- Martin (7/5): Enjoyable - Central and convenient Could do with getting bottled water in the bedrooms
- nancy (10/5): - this quirky and historic hotel was a really satisfying place to stay in Durham. I’d be happy to go back there anytime.
- Alex (10/5): Great short stay. ! - An amazing and friendly hotel in the heart of Durham. Great service and facilities and polite staff. Very relaxed and with suitable extensive parking
- Claire (10/5): Excellent Stay - Amazing location. Superb breakfast. Lovely staff!! Nothing
- سالم (8/5): تم استغلالي من قبلكم للاسف ؛ ولن اقع في هذا الفخ مرة اخرى -
- Tony (10/5): Great experience in all facets. Would definitely stay again. - Staff were welcoming, warm and friendly.
The room and buildings are fantastic.
Location is very good. Parking was limited.
- Philip (7/5): -
- Juliet (8/5): -
- D3540PJseank (6/5): Over promised, under delivered. - Yes the old parts of the building are lovely and the location is very good but other than that it was pretty average and therefore overpriced in all aspects - rooms, food and bar.
The website images suffer from over use of estate agent photo techniques when the reality is a little tired. The refurb should have referenced the timeless older parts of the building rather than relying on the fashionable grey, grey, grey of the time which inevitably was going to look dated pretty quickly.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, showers were good and the staff helpful and friendly.
- Raymond (10/5): Great location and lovely building in a lovely city. - Comfortable room, lovely bathroom,, comfy bed., tea and coffee facilities. Room was quite dark. Could have done with more lighting.
- Daria (10/5): - Very clean, beautiful, updated room with cathedral view in a historic building.
Great dinner at the hotel steakhouse and delicious breakfast the next morning.
Amazing location.
- nicolajeand (10/5): Incredible from check in to check out - I would just like to say what a fantastic stay me and my bestie friend had last night from check in to check out it was amazing we had an hour to wait for our room so headed to the bar where we were welcomed with open arms given a table and our drinks and food order were take we ordered an aperol spritz and an elderflower 75 they did not disappoint as we were heading to brunch later in the day we ordered a few side dishes we had mac and cheese bites they deserve a review in it’s self absolutely amazing some fries and onion rings all amazing and I would just like to give a massive shoutout to Kirsty thee operations manager she is absolutely incredible you can tell the women loves her job from the second she greets you very bubbly fantastic personality and credit to the hotel indigo as a women myself who’s worked in hospitality for over 20 years it’s lovely to see the passion that someone has for a venue they love and the job they love 10/10 will definitely be staying again infact iv already booked as she recommended the restaurant to us so we will be trying and its a stones throw away from the cathedral as we were attending a concert that evening
- Guest (7/5): -
- Zisis (10/5): -
- Jack (10/5): Loved it, second time stopping here. Will be back again. - We enjoy the location being so near everything we love. They’ve changed the system due to some bad apples giving them issues but now that means other guests have to deal with the consequences when it’s not our problem, such as putting a deposit down; this was not a requirement last time.
- Clare (9/5): -
- Kay (8/5): Good breakfast. Very helpful staff. - Handsome building. Good location. The lighting in the room
- Julian (8/5): -
- David (9/5): Lovely stay. Would happily visit again. - Beautifully renovated old town hall building built in 1896, converted into a lovely hotel.
The room was very comfortable with very good amenities. The Marco Pierre White restaurant was incredible and all the hotel staff were brilliant. The room was very nice but it was a bit dark in the evenings because there were only side lights in the main bedroom area (No ceiling down-lights or pendant).
- Newman (10/5): -
- David (8/5): - Great hotel perfectly located for exploring Durham.
Lovely characterful old building
- josemA5399ZO (10/5): Exceptional Hotel - I stayed at the hotel indigo in durham and had the most delighted experience. As we arrived we were welcomed with a warm greeting and very nice receptionist Katy. The atmosphere was giving a very old and rustic theme keeping the buliding in orginal shape realy brings the theme together. We stayed in room 412 with the bath inside it the room was well kempt with amenties that were well stocked. the value for this room was really good. the cleanliness of the room was exceptional. there was no noise through the night and was overall really peaceful. We had dinner at the resturant wich was beautiful and made the night really come together and the servies was more than better. The location of this hotel is right next to the city center wich only takes 5 minutes to walk to. I would definetly stay again
- Carol (10/5): Great hotel great location great experience - Room was very comfortable clean and spacious with a fabulous view from the windows. Ate at the Marco Pierre White restaurant in the hotel and the food was excellent. Chateaubriand was fabulous. A truly exceptional breakfast served there too. Location is very convenient with a few minutes walk over elvet bridge to all the shopping areas. The staff are super friendly and efficient Absolutely nothing. Stay again anytime and thoroughly recommend
- Alyson (10/5): -
- Garraghan (10/5): Fantastic hotel - Location was perfect for Durham city cente. Breakfast was really good, hotel looked spotless, really happy with stay. Only slight negative which is more personal than the hotels fault was the matrass was too soft.
- Z9975FNtheresas (10/5): Great location for a short stay in Durham - Really central hotel, easy walk into the city with large bedrooms and friendly service.
- Mark (8/5): -
- LIWEI (7/5): It was a nice stay, very friendly staff, but we didn’t expect the rooms are in the Ground floor. - Quilt room Tiny flies in the bathroom.
- enrica (9/5): - Struttura favolosa, camera accogliente, bella la sala ristorante
/colazione, a 10 minuti dalla stazione e meno di 5 dal centro di Durham. Scelta perfetta! nulla
- Carol (10/5): -
- Climber66892284785 (10/5): Excellent service from barman Stephen at Indigo Durham - We popped into Indigo bar tonight for a quick drink. It’s a Beautiful bar with incredible original features.
The barman (Stephen ) was working alone but did a fantastic job of keeping everyone served! He was friendly, attentive and professional and made a great cocktail.
- Rachel (9/5): Great experience overall and will definitely return! - Friendly staff, clean room, great storage etc (mini fridge, safe, supplied hairdryer, etc), staff tidied and replaced towels while out, etc. Room service options are limited/non existent if you're vegetarian/vegan. Means reliant on eating out.
TV and WiFi can be a bit slow sometimes.
- Ralph (10/5): Great stay in Durham - The room, the Cathedral view, the nice staff Nothing
- Sam (10/5): Attentive, friendly staff and relaxing experience. - Exceptional staff, very attentive throughout. Never without a friendly conversation and smile. Reception staff took time to explain everything and were very on the ball. We dined in the restaurant and it was excellent. Again, service from the staff and our waitress Jess was amazing, nothing was too much trouble and had everything under control. Slept so well as was ready for the break and relaxed immediately. Visited the hotel bar, such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and breakfast and service excellent yet again. Didn’t see one unhappy face at all. We even chatted to the maintenance guy, Dave, who took time to ask after us and enquire about our visit. Such lovely, friendly members of staff.
- Olwyn (10/5): Excellent - Excellent service and great staff.
- Paul (10/5): -
- janice (8/5): Very pleasant. - Breakfasts good, plenty of choice. Dinner menu understandably meat centred. Quantities generous. Sensible and well priced wine list. Comfortable bed and good shower. Loved the sense of history. Service at dinner very slow and reminders required making it extra difficult for an insulin dependent diabetic to manage. Service in the cafe was brusque. Inevitably the building interior Victorian gloomy.
- Adam (9/5): Leaning into its heritage - The room decor, the standard and the location
- 240jrobinson (6/5): Adequate but disappointing - Although cost would suggest this is a premium hotel in Durham, I was somewhat disappointed by our experience. I phoned in advance about parking availabiity and was correctly advised parking on site was not guaranteed - we didn't secure a space for the whole of our 3 day stay which is less than ideal, particularly when arriving early evening after a long drive. The reception was not obvious to find - and when we did find it it was alongside a cafe closed for the night and the reception desk is manned by someone who stays behind the door so the area is empty when you walk in. This doesn't create a warm welcome as the place felt a little abandoned and it doesn't feel particularly secure. On the whole, we encountered few staff on our stay - just those we met at breakfast and on checkin/out. The building itself is undoubtedly impressive but the refurb has retained the dark Victorian interiors and this creates a rather depressing atmosphere. Our room had only low level and low lumen lamplighting in the bedroom area - it was just too dark. Dark panelling and furniture made this worse. The bathroom had bright lighting and was clean and modern. We never saw another soul on our corridor for the duration of our stay - all bedroom doors looked shabby, and the seating in the restaurant was particularly worn with some chairs having totally worn through upholstery. It felt tired as a result. There was a duster left on the banister outside our room when we arrived which was moved after 24 hours. The hotel worked for us in terms of location for the area of Durham we needed to be in but I was disappointed - it was not cheap, felt rather cheerless due to dark, shabby interiors and unfriendly largely due to us encountering few people, and the cold, unmanned reception. I would not return.
- Mike (3/5): Not impressed - Good location, easy to walk into town. Needs refurbishing. Historic building but not very well maintained. Rooms dark and small. Shower not very powerful. TV had only basic channels. Carpet stained. Room cold. Window drafts. Cafe on LG not in keeping with a hotel of this class.
- Kerry (8/5): A very comfortable stay, percect for a mini break - The building was amazing, lots of history and very quirky. Staff were very friendly and helpful at reception, in the bar and at breakfast. Breakfast was a little overcooked and only warm.
- Odile (10/5): -
- John (9/5): - Superb hotel, great food and drink, good location, friendly staff Nothing
- Agnes (9/5): - Sehr schöne Zimmer, sauber
- Richard (10/5): Very enjoyable - Good location, staff were excellent being professional ,attentive and just nice people. Cant fault it
- Anthony (7/5): Great location. Friendly staff. Good breakfast - Great location. Friendly staff. Good breakfast.
- Gemma (7/5): Nice but could be better - The rooms are very spacious full stocked with everything you need* room service was lovely very prompt great central location The “mini bar” was 2 cans of ipa and 4 cans of water.. they were using a flat sheet as a fitted sheet on the bed so it kept coming off every night, the pillows were like sleeping on a piece of paper we couldn’t turn the heating off and the lowest the thermostat went to was 19 degrees and because it’s right in the city centre if you opened the window it was very noisy
- Jennifer (10/5): -
- Karen (9/5): Great amd will definitely go back - Great location and such a beautiful old building - so glad all the original features were still in place. The tiled staircase, stained glass windows and rotunda bar and dining room were spectacular Could have done with more staff on at breakfast as tables not cleared and buffet needed a bit of refreshing
- David (9/5): -
- Simon (10/5): Excellent stay with Excellent staff - Superb service, all staff were exemplary Car park not great
- Naomi (7/5): Great location, friendly staff and comfortable room - Lovely welcome and nice room The curtains were so small that that they did not draw across so the light streamed in! General complaint about the hotel, insufficient lighting in the bedrooms.
- ANDREA (9/5): -
- Marie (9/5): -
- Janet (9/5): -
- Gilly (10/5): Super stay in this historic building - Friendly welcome, amazing building, sympathetic decoration, excellent central location N/A
- Nicola (8/5): 1 Night stay - The building was beautiful, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast was delicious, with a great variety of options to choose from. The TV wasn’t easy to set up. We would have preferred a simpler “switch on and watch” experience with a selection of basic Freeview channels readily available.
- Hannah (10/5): Janet was the warmest of welcomes! The room 227 was gorgeous and interesting. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom w - Everything, it is beautiful! Nothing.
- Maud (9/5): -
- Doc.D (10/5): - Very welcoming staff. Dinner (MP White's) was excellent, as was breakfast. Room very comfortable thank you.
