- Gina (1/5): Couldn’t stay, not acceptable accommodations. - We couldn’t stay here, it wasn’t like the photos, I guess they have a new side and an old side? We didn’t see any rooms but the one they gave us and decided to leave and go to another property. Still determining if we are going to have to pay for it. We requested a refund but Booking.com hasn’t been able to reach the property. Dirty, mold, smelled bad. Neatness counts! This is our first time having to leave a property after hundreds of hotel stays. The Starfish was nice!
- Gabriel (10/5): Fantastic accommodation with lovely owners who made us feel very welcome - We had a great stay at this lovely accommodation. The owners are wonderful, friendly people who made us feel very welcome. The rooms are large and clean, and were cleaned everyday. The reception area is beautiful with hammocks that you can relax in and water and coffee were offered to us. The location is great, just a short walk from the beach and our hosts were very helpful with recommending restaurants and things to do/see. You can also book tours with them for a reasonable price. I must mention breakfast which is a lovely selection of fruit with eggs served how you like, fresh cheese and delicious bread! Also coffee, tea and fresh juice available. Thanks so much for a great stay, we would definitely come back if we ever return to Isabela.

- Suzy (10/5): Vale a pena! - Muito bem localizado, é possível chegar ao centro da cidade a pé e também aos principais bares/restaurantes. O porto não fica tão perto, mas dá pra ir caminhando, também, se não houver pressa. O café da manhã é bom. Tem serviço de lavanderia (um pouco caro, mas salva quem está viajando há mais tempo). Poderiam oferecer mais coisas no quarto (frigobar, toiletries). As tomadas não são adaptadas para o Brasil (assim como em todo o país).
- Daniel (7/5): - Sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. Laundry hat super geklappt. Wir konnten die Tour sehr kostengünstig direkt über das Hostel buchen. Klimaanlage hat super funktioniert. Sehr kulant da wir später auschecken durften, da unser Boot erst um 15 Uhr ging. Wir hatten eine Zimmer im Erdgeschoss im Nachbargebäude ohne Fenster welche man öffnen konnte. Dadurch gab es leichten Schimmel im Bad und im eigentlichen Schlafzimmer.

- Bianca (8/5): Schoon en net hotel op prima locatie. - Locatie is goed, makkelijk aan te lopen. Wasservice en tourdesk in het hostal. Supervriendelijk personeel. Lekker (simpel) ontbijt met lokale gerechtjes erbij. Goede bedden. Elke dag schone handdoeken en opgemaakte bedden. Gefilterd water kun je pakken wat je wil. Het is een hostel, maar er is geen gemeenschappelijke keuken of koelkast. Dus ook lastig boodschappen mee te nemen of klaar te maken. Zeker met jonge kids was dat een gemis.

Staff were super friendly and really accommodating letting us check out later so we could still have the morning before leaving for the ferry. Breakfast is 6:40 - 8:00, great as a lot of trips leave at 7:00 but not great when you hear everything being prepared at 6:00 every morning.

They made everything EASY... from a delicious breakfast in the morning to the ease of booking group excursions to the hot shower you came back to it was great experience. I already miss the hanging chairs. A short walk to the beach, and restaurants. My room was about 10 feet from a WiFi single, but the WiFi worked great in the common areas so maybe it was not a bad thing to be able to disconnect.

They cook to order eggs, get fruit, coffee, fruit juice, delicious bread each morning. They clean the room every day. They scheduled shuttles for us. Very hospitable.

- Casey (10/5): Loved it here! And will most likely rebook when I return! - Gran Tintorera was everything we needed during our stay at Isabela! The breakfast was delicious and fresh each morning. The staff were amazingly helpful & always kind. Our room was clean and spacious! We were on the first floor, so heard quite a bit of noise when breakfast was being served (but we were up anyways). Also would have preferred to be closer to the beach but overall, wasn't a big problem.

Property is "far" from center or ferry port, but the whole town is very small, the "far" is only 4 blocks away, 5 minutes walking, so, this is not a problem. The overall environment is quiet and you live in a garden with a couple of small yard with healthy plant. You can hear dog barking (there seems no way to avoid anywhere in island). We don't call it noisy. The noisy is actually from construction. If not in construction season, probably much better. And some add-on benefit staying here is: The host seems overall organize the Volcano hiking tour, he prepared the lunch box for the tour as well. And the hiking tour we booked from him directly is $35/p.p. The tour bus is parking in this property. Due to the ongoing construction, hotel have working noisy the whole day when we stay. Which might also the reason result the room is cover by dust. And seems not all room ready to welcome guest, missing a lot of necessity. But you can ask for and they would fix it immediately. And for some bad lucky, 1 of the room having bedbug, but another room is ok. And the shower not working in 1 room, after we reported to host, who move us to another room, which was having much better shower water flow. Check out time is 10am, but we were allowed to stay till 1pm for free to catch our flight scheduled on 2pm. Which is very friendly and appreciated. Staff are very nice and helpful. Overall, I should say, we get what we paid. :)

- BigFatFoodieFlorida (10/5): Yes! Yes! Yes! - Excellent place to stay on Isabela Island. Walking distance to the port Restaurants, bars, souvenir shops and flamingo park. Front desk folks are so very nice and Tawney, the young man who is always available to assist with anything speaks fluid English. There’s water outside to rinse your shoes if you do the volcano tour or turtle tour there is soda and water to buy. However, you can walk 100 feet and buy it for half the price but it is convenient to have close at hand. Air-conditioning works great hot water great And fresh fruit grown there for breakfast. Purified water always available. Breakfast has specific times. Coffee is ready and hot very early and the services is excellent. Construction going on next door but you will be gone during the day. Would stay there every time on Isabel island. Enjoy!

- Bradley (7/5): Good - The rooms were spacious, especially considering the money. The rooms were very clean and cleaned daily. The laundry services were especially useful to travellers. When we arrived, we had lots of dirty clothes - $1 per lb of laundry is an absolute bargain. During our stay, we were never disturbed by noise. When we arrived the shower furnishing had been broken, meaning you had to turn on the shower with the internal switch. Although not a huge issue for us, I can imagine for some travellers this would create a negative impression. I agree with some other reviews that the checkout time should be later as it is quite earlier. Some other reviews mentioned a basic breakfast, but I found the breakfast in keeping with the price of the accommodation. The hotel is not located next to the sea, but again that is reflected in the price. Overall, I thought it was a good stay.
- Celine (10/5): Amazing stay! - The best hotel in the Galapagos! The room were so nice, clean, bright and had everything we could wish for (AC, space, towels, shampoo etc). The breakfast was lovely and the courtyard as well. There was a water refill which was so useful. The staff was so nice, on our last day we left at 5am so couldn’t have breakfast and the owner gave us a lunch box to take with us. So lovely!!!! Wish we could have stayed longer. Also they organise tours which we wished we had known about. Would highly recommend to anyone!
- Ayla (10/5): - Great place to stay - comfortable bed and helpful staff. Delicious breakfast. Easy to walk to the beach. Only downside was all the loud dogs in the neighborhood barking in the night - take earplugs if you’re a light sleeper! This has been the case at other places I’ve stayed in Galapagos that are more in the neighborhoods, so is not unique to this property. I recommend this place.
- Matthew (8/5): Nice and clean - Nice modern clean accommodation, friendly staff. They need to update their Booking.com listing. My card pre-payment was never taken in advance (as it said it would be) and then we were told we'd have to pay fees on top. Thankfully they let us off after much back and forth, but details should be more clear.
- Jay (10/5): - I really enjoyed staying here and the property had a wonderful feel and so much safety. The room was clean and fresh and they cleaned between my stay as well. Check in was easy and seamless and informative. The breakfast was really nice with fresh fruit juice, coffee, bread, jam, fresh papaya, watermelon, bananas. Out of the main downtown it was a simple 5 blocks to walk to the bustling area of downtown for dining. Really enjoyed and would stay again. Loved the spiral staircase and Also loved the volleyball and basketball courts a block away and went to watch volleyball each night.

- Stefan (10/5): Exceptional - Nice staff, good price, good breakfast (partly buffet + egg-kitchen). Some minutes to walk to the center and the beach. Possibility to have a shower after check out if you take the afternoon ferry and free shuttle to the ferry. The ferry pier is generally 20min walking distance from the city. Nothing negativ concerning this hotel, but the only negative thing about Isabela.

Super sweet staff that truly brings a smile to your face with their attitude towards the work they do. Only recommendation would be breakfast options. Breakfast is delicious but eggs come one way and not many protein options. 100% would come back here and recommend to anyone.

- Rita (8/5): Hostal Sandrita - very nice basic very clean place - we got to the hotel and they didn’t have room for us (we had reserved months in advance). they did however move us to a « sister Hostal » across the street. Hostal Sandrita- the rooms were incredibly clean and the staff « Marci » was absolutely amazing! she took the time to tell us about the island, where to go and was always available for questions. Hostal Sandrita does not have a television in the room (which we thought was fine but others may not).

Upon arrival the lady owner had me for room 23 (bur after asking me twice if I was a single traveller and I said yes ) she downgraded me to room 21 ,which for sure didn’t meet the description of a superior room ( according to the booking page ) - upon arrival there was no information about how the breakfast is served ( I found out accidentally the next morning that breakfast is served a 0800 ) . But the owner and another gentleman were very eager and chatty about selling me a day trip to “ the tuneless” . Even the next morning at 0730 the lady owner was knocking on my door and once again asking me if I wanted to go on the day trip ( but nothing about how breakfast is served ). Of course at the end I was charged for my original booking and not for a standard room. The lady owner and the other gentleman should first make sure to accommodate and meet the criteria’s that the guests have asked and paid for and THEN should try selling the extras they have to offer .

We got into an odd situation where a vendor booked a tour for the tunnels that didn’t exist and she helped us get our money back. She went above and beyond for us and made our trip much better. The hostal has free breakfast and is the start of where the bus for the volcano tours pick up. It also has a free bus to the ferry in the afternoon. We had a great stay here.

Place filled with school kids, not really the vibe we thought we were gonna get. On booking it said it was a room for 200 dollars (for two nights), discounted to 100. Later found it for less money than the discounted price on several sites, so felt a bit like a scam. Room and towel not too clean. Breakfast messy and mediocre.

The proprietor, Cecilia, and her husband were very warm and friendly, and even picked us up from the port and dropped us off after our stay. The rooms were spacious, great value, and close to everything we needed. I could not recommend them enough.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing family run unique travel experience - This was a last minute back packing trip for us from US. Isabella is the least populous of the three major islands. The owner Cecelia is quite popular and influential on the Island. Being non Spanish speaking, we anticipated some challenges but Cecelia and her family made sure we felt at home. We have stayed at several premium luxury hotel chains - this was a very unique cultural experience with two teenagers. Farm fresh breakfast with papaya (they have their own farm) was heavenly. They tailor made trips for us. Hard working, down to earth and very generous family. Leave your ego at home and be ready to enjoy the island life the Ecuadorian way. Just be kind.
- Taylor (9/5): Nice, quiet stay close to the beach - Gran Hostal Tintorera was a lovely stay just a few minutes walk from the beach. Cecilia was very helpful and accomodating for us as the ATM was not working so she offered us alternatives. The breakfast was nice in the morning and it was a very comfy bed in a quiet room. The room and bathroom were both very spacious and both were well equipped. Good location and easy check in/check out. We were also able to do some laundry whilst we were there which was really beneficial for us. It would be fab to be able to use the kitchen to cook during our stay. I read question regarding the kitchen and it said it would be ready after November but during our stay in December it wasn't ready. Also there were ants in the bathroom which weren't a massive issue but might be good to look into some preventative measures for them :)

If you are expecting 5 star quality this is not the hotel for you but it has comfy and clean rooms with good wifi for the Galapagos. It is within walking distance of the beach and Cecilia is excellent! I really enjoyed my time at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone I know! They turn around laundry pretty fast for a reasonable price of $1 a kg and they offered tours at the best prices. If you are looking for charm I would stay here!

Spacious and clean room, short walking distance to beach and shops, delicious breakfast, and great connections to tours throughout the island. Cecilia owns a local tour business, which means whatever you want to do she can make happen at very reasonable prices. Our favorite tour was to Los Túneles where we had many up close encounters with sharks, rays, penguins, boobies, and sea turtles. If you’re looking for a comfortable and affordable stay, this is the spot for you. En español: Cecilia te cuida muy bien. Todos los días hay un desayuno delicioso y diferente. Los cuartos son muy limpios, hay servicio de lavandería y desde que es dueña de una compañía de tours, no tienes que preocuparte en encontrar el precio más competitivo o justo. Es una persona honesta y quedarte en este hostal es una experiencia muy relajada y bonita.

Almost nothing to choose from. Plus none of our group felt safe during night.. I would keep my door locked at all times.

The hotel’s location, compared to other places to stay in Puerto Villamil, is farther than most from the shore, yet the topography is not steep. The staff was friendly.
- maracoani (10/5): Great relaxing hotel in Puerto Villamil, Isla Isabela, Galapagos - We wanted a view of the Galapagos different from that on the main island Santa Cruz. We chose Isla Isabela, a 3-hour fast boat ride from Puerto Ayora. Not a nice crossing, threw up in the plastic bag three times. Everyone else had taken dramamine apparently. Huge rolling waves all the way, but safe though. Coming into Puerto Villamil seemed tricky through a winding canal. Seals all over the jetty and a penguin in the water. Worth the trip though and the stay at the Gran Hostal Tintorera was tops for our budget and 2-day stay-over. Nice clean architecture and lines, spacious ground floor room, clean linen, ample double bed, good bathroom and great shower. Very attentive and serious manager who kept a close eye on how breakfast went in particular. Plenty of plants and greenery around outside and places to hang out in. Ample, open breakfast area with the usual breakfast, coffee, milk, juice, fruit, bread, croissants, jam. The hostal is close to the square and restaurant area, although it's a fair walk to the jetty area and one of the kayak/snorkel tours. Easy access to the boardwalk through the mangroves. Loved it. Return trip was like glass, no tossing.
- Irishguide2014 (10/5): Really, really nice - I arrived on Isabella with no prebooked accommodation. A lady meeting people off the ferry suggested having a look at this one to see if I liked it, so I did, and I stayed. I liked it so much my original 2 nights stretched to 4 and I only left because I had to leave the island to catch a flight. I was charged single rate ($25 - big breakfast for an extra $5) for large double room with good air conditioning and shower, WiFi as good as it gets on Isabella. Lovely staff!!! Quiet residential area with plenty of small markets and restaurants in immediate vicinity and short walk to the beachfront “strip” with tourist-oriented restaurants and tour operators. There are hammocks, too.
- eriepent00 (10/5): This is a nice, basic hotel run by a very kind and helpful woman. - think the primary consideration in assessing accommodation on Isla Isabela is price range. Until you spend in excess of $100 per night (sometimes way, way in excess) the variation between hostals (hotels) is somewhat minimal. Our choice in accommodation was Gran Hotel Tintoreras ($70 per night for two with breakfast). Although I was initially surprised by the simple utility of the room, after talking to a variety of other people about their accommodation it became clear that this was the standard. There may have been minor variations, but in terms of value you would need to look at what was provided in a broader sense than just the room to be able to compare hotels. Breakfast was provided with our hotel and as far as I could determine there wasn’t a great deal of difference between hotels in this category either. The standard seemed to include: eggs, croissant, fruit, granola, yoghurt, juice and coffee. All of these were available at the Tintoreras. The fruit was fresh from Cecilia’s farm and the croissants were a bit of a luxury. The Gran Hotel Tintoreras provided two different volcano tours, and coordinated a number of other tours with a variety of providers (Las Tintoreras, Los Tuneles, etc.). They also helped us coordinate taxis and ferries when we needed them. The tours we did were good, no problems or issues. The staff of a hotel often are the critical element in whether people enjoy their stay. Cecilia, the woman who runs the Gran Hotel Tintoreras, speaks limited English which fit quite well with the fact we spoke limited Spanish. She and Isabela were very helpful and good natured about our struggles to talk to them about tours, ferries and taxis. Cecilia took us to her farm one afternoon where she showed us around and we picked pineapples with her for the Hotel breakfast. We were at our hotel for four days which I believe is twice the average stay on Isabela. My judgement of our hotel changed from day to day as I talked to more and more people about the hotels they were staying in. I would tell anyone visiting to expect basic accommodation - it should be clean and functional. If you are staying four days, you may have to prompt staff to change towels. If that doesn’t appeal to you, you need to upgrade (perhaps in a major way). I liked the Tintorera, and the staff. I recommend it at the price range and think it’s one of the better choices in Villamil.

Our air on wasn’t working so they immediately moved us to another room which was clean, comfortable and cool! They made us a delicious breakfast, sorted out taxis to collect and drop off and were altogether marvellous.

- kansasrod (8/5): Perfect for the price! - Do you want a place on the beach or right next to the square? Do you want to pay $100+ per night? Do you want a TV in the room? Then this is NOT your place! We loved it because it is clean, simple, quiet, a few blocks to walk to the main square, great breakfast, lovely shower -- although we do not like the step up to the bathroom. Nothing like forgetting that in the middle of the night. Spent 2 nights and would choose again. Other reviews describe it well.
