- TheRockinghorsegal (10/5): - The Marikoji Inn is absolutely delightful. It is situated in a quiet neighborhood just a few blocks from anything you might want including dining, combini, temples, and the absolutely charming Demichiyanagi station for visits further away than this area of Kyoto. The Inn blends ryokan and western seamlessly. Upon entering the front door your shoes go into a cupboard and comfortable slippers are provided to wear when inside. Our room was upstairs, but they have several first floor rooms including one traditional Japanese room that features a private garden outside. The rooms are generously sized and have private bathrooms with lovely bidet and deep deep tubs for soaking after all the walking you do in Japan. They don't provide meals like a ryokan however there is a refrigerator in the room for food you have brought back. All of the staff were delightful and we communicated in a mix of English and Google translate Japanese. The hospitality is top notch. They also offer Kyoto tours which we will be booking on our next stay because there WILL be a next stay. We both adore the Marikoji Inn! That I had to travel to my next itinerary stop! We wished we could stay longer.

- Ricca (9/5): Love it, will come back again! - Being a female solo travler it feel secure, I have stay at the ground floor and although there are many windows, there is a lock mechanism that prevent outside from opening/unlocking the windows. Some people might feel annoyed as the staircase is beside your room, if you don't mind some noise, then its perfectly fine. Do note that they do daily cleaning. There is a door gap in the bathroom so your feet will get cold easily as there is cold wind blowing at your feet while doing my business. Especially in the winter

- Juliane (10/5): Super Aufenthalt! - Die Unterkunft war sehr persönlich und in einem typisch japanischen Haus in einer tollen Gegend mit netten Restaurants in der Nähe.Es war nicht so touristisch,was total angenehm war.Und trotzdem war alles sehr gut zu erreichen und angebunden mit Bus und Bahn. Wir haben es sehr genossen.Das Personal war besonders hilfsbereit und freundlich.Die japanischen Zimmer waren sehr schön. Wir hatten ein normales Zimmer,was wir das nächste Mal gegen ein typisch japanisches tauschen würden.Wir würden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen!

- Björn (10/5): Very cozy and beautiful small hotel. - Very cozy traditional japanese building. We hade the 4 bed room with beating area, bathroom and shower which also hade a small zen garden. It was very beautiful and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Nothing really, 10 minutes walk to subway, perhaps som people dont like that. The beds are harder than Western style beds, IF you have problem with that be aware.

The room facilities were also fantastic. Really friendly staff. Felt very safe as a solo woman traveller. Great location near amenities and close to bus stops and subway.

It has a good connection with the other parts of the city both by bus and by a short walk to the station. The apartment has a very cosy feeling. The heater helps a lot and is highly necessary as the apartment loses temperature quite quickly.

- Westbook (10/5): 清潔で誠実 - 部屋のWi-Fiが非常につながりにくいというアクシデントがありましたが、夜遅くに連絡したにも関わらず、すぐに丁寧な対応をしてくださいました。その他、部屋の設備も申し分なく、3日間、大変快適に過ごすことができました。また京都大学で研究会がある際には使用したいです。 特に気になるところはありませんでした。掃除も隅々まで行き届いており、清潔でした。

We really enjoyed our stay here! - Such a beautiful traditional inn, we enjoyed our stay here, the staff was very welcoming, we loved the no-shoes policy and how everything was kept extremely clean, from the floors to the bathroom. Our room was spacious, beds very comfortable, with beautiful table for two and a view of the garden. Everything you need was in walking distance. Amazing experience!

- Viktor (9/5): - Traditioneel Japans verblijf waarbij we in de mooie kamer in Japanse stijl verbleven. Ruime, propere kamer met zicht op klein Japans tuintje. Heel vriendelijk personeel. Gelegen in een rustige buurt met metrostation en busstation in de buurt. Weinig geluidsdichte muren, dus je hoort wel geluiden van in de andere kamers. Wij vonden dit persoonlijk niet zo lastig.
- Monika (7/5): Comfortable room in great neighbourhood - Our ground floor room was spacious, with a separate dining/sitting area overlooking the Zen garden. The separate shower room with deep bath was modern and also spacious. There was also a separate toilet and a large corridor area connecting the bathroom, toilet and dining/sitting area. We loved the local neighbourhood that the guesthouse was in - there were many eating options and it was good to be away from the crowded tourist areas, although it meant we needed to catch public transport sometimes. The layout was abit awkward: there was no sink in the bathroom, instead it was in the dining/sitting area. The fridge and microwave were in the bedroom area near the entry, so a long way from the teamaking area. Our bedroom was closest to the front door and reception area so we experienced noise from there, as well as from the room above us. For the price per night we were paying, we felt the guesthouse didn't quite hit the mark.

- Joachim Hähnel (9/5): Kultivierte Unterkunft in der Nähe des Kaiserpalastes - Sehr sauberes kultiviere Unterkunft. außerhalb und somit ruhig gelegen. Über Citybus lassen sich alle Hotspots sehr fit erreichen.
- Janne (9/5): Oikein sopiva majapaikka meidän tarpeisiimme. - Huone (Wisteria) ja koko hotelli oli hyvin siisti ja riittävän tilava kolmihenkiselle seurueellemme. Huoneen valokatteinen terassi oli mukavan kokoinen (n. 3 x 3 m). Sänkyjen päädyissä oli pistokkeet USB2-lataukselle. Pärjäsimme siis ilman adapteria koko reissun ajan. Jatkoimme vierailuamme yhdellä yöllä alkuperäisestä suunnitelmasta, ja viimeisen yön eri huoneessa, mikä järjestyi hyvin. Tämä japanilaistyylinen huone oli mukava yllätys. Henkilökunnan palvelu oli joustavaa. Hotellin sijainti oli meidän tarpeisiimme oikein sopiva. Hotelli sijaitsee kapean sivukadun kulmassa, ja ympäristö oli erittäin rauhallinen. Reilun puolen kilometrin päässä oleva Demachiyanagi on Keihan- ja Eizan-junalinjojen pääteasema. Hotellin lähistöllä on paljon palveluita etenkin metroaseman suuntaan. Demachiyanagin alue, jossa kauniit jokiuomat haarautuvat, on hyvä solmukohta. Vähän isompi ruokakauppa Goremo oli noin 400 metrin ja lähin iso Life-ruokakauppa noin kilometrin päässä.

Since the room follows a traditional style, the soundproofing wasn’t perfect — but the real issue came from the inconsiderate guests upstairs. Still, this place is a 10 out of 10 for me！

- Sinan (10/5): Great place in a quiet neighborhood, ideal for taking a good rest. - Due to my work I have to stay in Hotels often. Marikoji Inn feels more like a home and I could get much better rest. Located in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood away from the main tourist attractions, you can recharge after an intense day.
- Rhys (9/5): Everything was great until the other guests arrived - The room was lovely and had all the amenities that you could need, the staff were friendly and helpful, I have stayed at a total of 6 hotels so far during my trip to Japan and this one had the nicest most spacious room by far Unfortunately the other guests were really loud, and for some reason felt that 11pm was a good time to bath their child, who they sing to during the bath, then once he gets out the Barth he runs round the room shouting, although the hotel can’t be held responsible for the habits of their guest, it did highlight that some of the connecting wall in the rooms are quite thin

- Brittany (10/5): Great stay and rested well during our busy days sightseeing in Kyoto! - The staff greeted us when we came in and walked us to our room and showed us everything we needed to know! There was no breakfast option offered but not sure if there was any option of that.

- Michael (10/5): A quiet and comfortable stay in Kyoto - This is a splendid little ‘inn’ tucked away in the back streets not far from Kyoto University. I selected this accommodation for its location as I was visiting my daughter who is studying at Kyoto University. My room was larger than I needed but it was spotless and is easily warmed as the weather was cold. It was very quiet and the bed was very comfortable. I stayed two nights and my room was serviced, which was an unnecessary surprise. I hardly saw the staff and when I did they were very friendly. The wifi is good and after hours access is via a pin pad. I would highly recommend this place for those looking for a simple comfortable stay in Kyoto.

- Aleksandra (10/5): Exceptional - The room was large and clean. The staff was very friendly, and you could communicate with the staff in both English and Japanese. They are very helpful and hospitable. I got a cleaning question and there was no problem for the staff to pay special attention to the bathroom. I had towels replaced with fresh ones, also coffee and tea were available in the room.

- Atsuko (10/5): We would not hesitate to stay again. - We like Marikoji Inn very much. We stayed twice and our stay was very enjoyable. It is very near to Kyoto university. We would love to come back to Marikoji Inn in our next trip to Kyoto. We do not really sea anything negative.
- Katharina (6/5): Cute rooms, no recommendation for light sleepers - very well equipped with microwave and tableware. Room looked cute The walls are very thin, you understand every single word of what’s spoken in other rooms. I’m aware that that is pretty normal in Japanese houses, but I would not recommend this accommodation for light sleepers at all. The door to our room did not fully close. There was a gap which meant that people could look inside if they wanted to. We liked the room itself, but felt like we had no privacy. They don’t clean under/between the beds (found popcorn in the aisle between the beds)

- Rudnei (8/5): Convenient located next to University and train station. - Very good location very close to the University of Kyoto and close to train station. The price was steep, but then accommodations all over Kyoto are very expensive any way.
- Amanda (9/5): A wonderful stay with extremely kind hosts. - The owners are wonderful and incredibly kind and helpful and made the stay work. The location near a bathhouse is fantastic. I loved the room, it is really beautiful and delicately decorated. The Inn has no facilities, so one must anticipate it is a no frills kind of place to stay but immaculate and in a peaceful area with everything you need not far. The general area is quite residential but very useful to be near Kyoto University.
- Andrej (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was super, each day new tea and coffee bags, very friendly owner and other staff, good location for city seeing.. We spent whole week in Kyoto and this was really highlight of our stay in Japan Just small comment the Japan garden on the photo is in fact on basement and room was on First floor. But you see it from the small balcony.

- Glenn (10/5): - The hotel host Thomas is very hospitable. He was gracious in adding my daughter to the stay last min without any additional cost. He also helped me to arrange for a taxi. Overall, it is just a wonderful experience staying at this quiet neighborhood.
