Guest Reviews
- Jonathan (2/5): - 👎👎
- Rebecca (8/5): Lovely stay - A lovely 1 night stay in this clean and comfortable place.
Welcoming staff on arrival.
Delicious basic breakfast.
Basic amenities but everything we needed for 1 night
- Caitlin (6/5): - Gorgeous decorated common area, lovely staff, cute cats. Rooms were puny, bathrooms very small, air con was good, located in a good/quiet location
- Ilona (1/5): Terrible - Nothing! We had rats in our room and no water for almost 2 days, brown dirty water that made me a skin infection.
I don’t recommend anyone to take this place ever!
They also claimed that we need to add extra money for hot water, but there was no water for 2 days and no such option in Booking.
- Maddie (2/5): WOULD NOT RECOMMEND - Sadly I booked to stay here and was told upon arrival that my room was double booked and had to find somewhere else to stay after 5pm. Now flash forward a month in chasing up go get my money back for the room I was not given. This place is contacting PayPal and hotel.com and saying that I did receive it when I have proof that I didn’t. Would not recommend staying here. They haven’t even cancelled the booking when they said they would.
- Bob (8/5): - It's a budget hotel but nice staff as all good but I could smell someone smoking
- Nathan (4/5): - Comfortable bed, free coffee, great location.
On arrival reception area smelt of cat urine also, throughout stay very low water pressure.
Walls are paperthin meaning you can hear other quests in their rooms. The communal area was very noisy most evening and early morings. You will need earplugs as overnight there are dogs barking.AC works but very VERY noisy, we had to turn it off at night as you could hear it through ear plugs. We booked a week here and were asked to move rooms after 5 nights for some unexplained reason. We had a ground floor room initially and could hear guests above dragging furniture anout at all hours. Would not recommend staying unless no where else is free and you have decent ear plus/defenders to ensure sleep. Not a great experience for us.
- Jeff (6/5): - So at first, I was a little disappointed, as my room didn’t have hot water, but after a while this place started to grow on me. I mean it is three stars not five, but it is still a solid stay when all the rooms in El NIDO are booked. The staff was particularly helpful and friendly
I also thought that the courtyard, with an onsite snack shop was particularly charming.if I returned to El NIDO, I can’t say as this would be my fist choice, but at the same time, I could do much worse.
- Rahul (10/5): - Thank you for the Aate at the front desk she was amazing
- valerie (10/5): - Quiet, close to main attraction, good quality/price
- Anthony (8/5): - Happy welcoming staff
- Astrid (4/5): Nice if it wasn’t for the electricity - Nice and cozy place with friendly staff. However the electricity was out during our whole stay so it got extremely warm in the room.
- John (2/5): Smells too bad. Not clean enough - If you enjoy smelling the smell of human waste stay here. You walk in on an unsafe boardwalk of rotten timbers over an open sewer. You cant get away from this smell. Add to that the room smelled of mould. More attention to cleaning would help. Staff were friendly. I am sure many places in el nido much worse than this though.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Spend more on where you sleep in El Nido - Please prepare yourself with a lot of bug spray. Many spiders and bugs & ants in the room. No kids should stay in such a place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - La place est simple propre pour ce rendre il y a un trottoir en bois il manque des planches.
- elvie (2/5): Don’t stay herr - Do not stay here, way to the hotel is a canal which smells & lots of mosquitoes. No hot shower & it smells.
- Andi (8/5): - Pros: The location is excellent. Kind and accommodating staff. Clean basic room.
Cons: Very small bathroom
- Verified traveler (8/5): - You get what you paid for.
Very basic accommodation. A practical choice since you’ll be touring all day. If you only need a place to leave your things and sleep for the night and save up, this is the place for you.
The AC is very good. Rare you see a pension house that will give you chills if you full-blast the AC. I will rate that 5/5. A minor setback on the water supply when we came in but nothing that wasn’t remedied right away.
I also like it that they offer free coffee (although instant ones) but nevertheless, it’s free. I like it that they put their hot-water dispenser where it is accessible to everyone. For those cup-noodles breakfast that you plan to have when you come over, go for it.
The staffs were nice and easy to talk to and will give you a much easier time to book your tours with them. No hassle at all.
The place is clean with a home-style feel. Just really be mindful on the way in as the place comes in an old foot bridge made of wood with lots of missing parts with the drainage below it. My daughter even stepped on one of those missing parts luckily she wasn’t hurt that bad.
When I go back to El Nido, I will personally choose this again for it’s affordability and proximity to the rest of your needs in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The only downside is the way going to the pension house because it is not cemented. It can be scary the first time walking on the way there. But the room is clean and overall it was a good value for the money. Unlimited free coffee is an added nice touch.
- Dennison (8/5): - Anything you need you need just asked the front desk
Water is too slow take time to fill a small bucket
And please if there is a chance please change the kettle.
But very happy and satisfied
- Leilanie (8/5): - I love the staff here , when I ask if I can stay 1 more hour because we are waiting for the service they allowed us ,staff is very friendly . And I add 1 more guest in our room but they didn't charge us as long as we will use the same bed.
Their bed can accomodate at least 3 people and still spacious .
A bit dissapointed about our room because it has ants on the window sides. And no generator if its brownout , overall I still like the place you have free unlimited coffee on the veranda .
Rate 4/5 😊
- Marv (8/5): - The pensionne house is not bad at all. You get what you paid for. Its good enough that its air-conditioned. It has free wifi. The cleanliness is not so nice. It smells a bit. The pillowcases has a smell also. We covered it with our extra clothes. But if youre on a tight budget. This is a good deal.
- Marychell (8/5): - It was good
- Maria Theresa (10/5): - Quick and easy check in, clean rooms and surroundings, friendly and accommodating stuff, quiet and peaceful, amenities good, the tea room is a bonus, close to the beach and plenty places to eat.
- Line (4/5): - The didn’t change their bed sheets. I saw a blood stain in my pillow.
The main problem is the water supply. It has a strong stinky smell.
But the good thing is their staff is kind.
- Lara (8/5): - Great stay :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location. Spacious and cozy room.
- Alice (4/5): Hmm - Service was so welcoming! They head everything you’d want at this place. Tours for better prices, vans to other towns, beer, etc. But room itself was the worst. I’ve been in the Philip. for 3 weeks now. And this place was the noisiest! Aircon soooo loud. And roosters even more loud. They screamed 24/7. No water at all. It was only dripping a little, so we couldn’t shower for three days. But great location.
- Sharon F (10/5): - Close to everything and the room is comfortable too.
- Rose Anne (8/5): El Nido stay - The room is perfect for a family of 7 (with 2 kids) like us, big beds and spacious room. The view is amazing as well. We love that they have free unlimited coffee also. Service is good and staff are very supportive. :-) The breakfast meal is a bit expensive but it tastes good anyway. I suggest you create new meal options. Overall, Mam Olson Pensionne hotel is a great mid-level hotel to stay!
Thank you, Ms. Jean!
- Joyce Ann (10/5): A very good decision I have made - A bang for the buck place to stay. I love it! Feels like a house to be honest, I kept referring to the place as "apartment" rather than "hotel" as I felt very at home. For the price you may expect a basic room which is still comfortable. The reception is open 6am to 10pm as is the WIFI... These reception people are very pleasant, nice and accomodating. The location is very quiet, a little away from the crazy streets busy with restos lined up and filled with tourists. But the location is still very near and is a good walk to the spots to eat as well as to the take of point of the island hopping so you would save money in tricycle rides which can be a bit expensive as they are 50 pesos per ride. The facility can improved by providing cabinets. It has ample enough space for cabinets btw. Will definitely stay again in this place especially because the reception is very accomodating and I really love their in house cat Bubbles!
- Aimee (10/5): Perfect stay, lovely staff, A/C, great location! - This place was great! They have a lovely staff who helped me many times enjoy my stay in El Nido. The location is ideal, close for walking to everything but far enough from the rowdy crowds and street noises. There's a convenience store just across the street (fresh bread each morning) and a fantastic burger stall just down the road toward town -- yum! Highly recommend!
- Chelsey (8/5): Fairly price and clean room without hot water - The staff was helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and clean while the bathroom was a little bit small. The main problem would be the water supply and sometimes the blackout.
This hotel is suitable for travelers with small budget, but need to be ok to live with cold water and electricity problems. Despite for mentioned issue, the whole place has homely feel, we like staying here.
- Aleister (6/5): Close to beach - Close to beach. Place is ok but lots of mosquitos outside as road to Olson is water coverd by wood planks only. Toilet is so small. No water every morning. They will give you buckets of water for morning use. But if you just want basic place to sleep, Olson is ok
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good stay but lack of running water - The stay was good, staff were friendly, location was close to the town. Main issue was that we didn’t have running water for a lot of our stay, however I think this may of been a wider issue with El Nido.
- N (4/5): Could do better - Power cuts, no air con or lights until back up started. Multiple times. No running water often, and when did it was brown tinged. Didn't understand half of what was said usually. We had ants in our rooms, and a huge spider came in one night under the door, thankfully I saw the damn thing. We had water come through the roof and into our bed while sleeping. It was also noisy with kids frequently banging around. Some of the above may not be just be the accomodations fault, however the lack of communication and how these were dealt with was not great. The staff were generally sweet. Hopefully this helps them improve their business.
- k (2/5): Do not stay here! No water/water dirty! - We checked in very late and we were so tired to care looking for another place, so we stayed when they said water will come in the morning. I requested for extra roll over beds and have already paid for them, but they have not prepared them on arrival. We stayed for 2 nights and never had clean water. We have to but gallons of drinking water to use to brush and wash up. Very disappointed.
- Alexander (8/5): Fairly priced and clean - I was clean and well kept for the price you pay.
- Luke (8/5): Good hotel small budget - Room and bathroom small but clean, air co and fan in the room. Small terrace to chill. Staff very nice and helpful
- Catherine (4/5): Good location but rooms very dirty! - Nice location, 10 mins walk from central El Nido strip, average wifi connection in courtyard. Very poor level of cleanliness in rooms - my bathroom was filthy and the bedsheets were covered in stains. Not impressed! My friend and I were also kept awake by the hotel staff playing games outside with other guests until around 3am. Would not recommend other than location.
- leni jane (10/5): - very friendly staff. it is close to the beach so thats a plus. very clean env. and friendly people in general.
- Steve (4/5): Acceptable, depending on your level of tolerance - I put my fiance in this hotel for a few days. She tells me that the water drainage system at the hotel is an open system, and the smell is really bad... bad enough for her to go get some medicine for a headache that she got from the smell. The water coming from the faucet was dark sometimes, and she didn't want to take a shower in it. Everything else about the hotel was nice enough. Maybe this was a temporary situation at the hotel. I don't know. I'm going to El Nido in July, and I won't be taking a chance. I could probably deal with bad smells from the sewer system, but dealing with dark water coming out of the faucets and shower would be too much for me to handle.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - it Was an ok place to stay if only staying for a couple of days and need a place to sleep. The toilets didn’t flush, there were no shower curtains.
- Kettly (6/5): A sad situation - The staff really do their best to accommodate the guests. They are very nice people.
There is a sewage canal that runs right in front of the hotel. In fact, guests have to walk on a board which cover the stagnant, unpleasant and foul smelling "stuff".
The room needs some serious improvement : better cleaning, a very loud airconditionner, some black fine grain falling from the ceiling, etc.etc
The town itself? Well, that is a different review.
No, I will not stay in this hotel again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, slightly outside of the town but about a 5 minute walk. Quiet hotel, smallish rooms but fine to sleep in. Staff were helpful and really friendly, they helped to book all our trips and transfers also telling us about the local area. Recommend to stay here
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic but clean- fine for a short stay! - Staff were very friendly and helpful. My experience of hotels in the area is that they are all quite basic and this could be said of here but it was clean and location great
- Joanne (10/5): Good budget room - Good staff. Good guest information. Only cold water at times none. Comfortable room. I would stay again.
- Carissa (8/5): Rustic bolt hole away from the mass noise - Basic accommodation just far enough up along the main road into town to walk in very easily but be quiet. Set back along a plank covered walkway, could be easy to miss as the sign is fairly small. Only basic snacks and drinks available, better if offered some breakfast options and hot drinks. Never had an issue with electricity cutting out. Double room with shower reasonable size but could of done with redecorating and smelt a bit damp. Helpful and friendly staff but some language misunderstandings at times as English not so perfect. Nice communal space with quality wood tables and chairs. Poor wifi, very slow and mostly not able to connect during our 5 day stay. Whole place has homely feel, we liked staying here.
- ricardo (8/5): Good place - I stayed 5 days at the hotel! good location, good rooms, air conditioning working perfectly! only problem is that it does not have a hot bath.
- Chris (8/5): Worth the money - I liked it here and extended my stay. Friendly staff, good location, wifi was fine. Rooms were good enough for the price and cleaned regularly. Free coffee on the balcony was a plus. Could be a bit noisy in the early hours if other guests were in the courtyard. Some days the staff could make a lot of noise for quite a while when arriving before 7am which is a bit early to be woken up for my tastes.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quiet hotel - It was a 5 minute walk from the beach and bar area of El Nido. This made it just that little bit quieter which was nice. The walkway to the hotel is a bit treacherous, so not recommended for those with heavy or big bags. The staff are helpful and kind. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The wifi is not very reliable. We enjoyed our stay there and felt very safe and comfortable.
- Mads (6/5): OK - Completely acceptable accommodation. Clean Room and satisfactory service.
