Guest Reviews
Rien
- Sara (9/5): A true gem: family vibe in a beautiful home that feels like it’s run by artists. - Beautiful interior spaces worth every surface covered in ornate mosaic/painting, perfect location. Kind and helpful onsite owners, Amina’s breakfast is delicious and generous. Rooms a tad small but you’re not there to sit around inside!
- Melinda (9/5): Cozy, comfortable visit in a lovely family home. Great hosts! - Very cozy, great location (5 minute walk to taxi), great views, two shared terraces, lovely and attentive family hosts. Shower in my room was tiny.
- Bujaud (10/5): - Tout etait parfait !

- Camey Ey (9/5): Hospitable family and charming traditional room. - Great location even though you have to walk up a few steps. Cute cosy room with very interesting design Nice breakfast with home made bread. Very helpful and friendly owners. Comfortable bed. A few hooks in the room would have been helpful.
- Sara Elena (10/5): Esperienza assolutamente posiva e consigliata. - Struttura accogliente, arredata tradizionalmente e con gusto. Tutto molto pulito. Ottima posizione. Proprietari gentilissimi e molto disponibili. Il bagno un po' piccolo e scomodo.
- Francesc (8/5): -
- Yann Lorioz (10/5): Una estancia perfecta. - Kostja (10/5): Beautiful B&B in the blue town of Chefchouen. - In the center of town. Very nice place and super yummy breakfast!
- Denise (9/5): We enjoyed our stay and were very well looked after by the family. The breakfast was delicious. - The property is in an excellent location. It’s up a hill so the views are wonderful. It’s close to restaurants and also the main square.
- Shane (9/5): Warmth and hospitality, plus the best breakfast of my trip, made this intimate homestay memorable - This is a TRUE homestay experience - you're living with Amina and her family, not in a separate apartment, which creates a wonderfully warm and personal atmosphere if that's what you're seeking. Amina was incredibly hospitable from the moment I arrived - clearly exhausted and sweating after the brutal uphill walk from the bus station through the medina (the blue maze!), she immediately offered me water, made me fresh coffee, and gave me cake. Her kindness and attentiveness throughout my three-night stay made all the difference, especially when I got sick on day two and she brought breakfast to my room.
Speaking of breakfast - this was my favorite included breakfast of my entire month-long trip. Served on a beautiful rooftop terrace, it included different breads, eggs, olives, goat cheese, marmalade, almond butter, fresh orange juice, and excellent coffee. The setting was cold but absolutely stunning.
The room was charming and small, with a clean private bathroom and a heater that worked great - I was always warm. WiFi worked fine. Amina's husband took me on a tour of Chefchaouen, including helping me find a pharmacy when I was getting sick, which I really appreciated. The price felt fair for the intimate homestay experience.
Chefchaouen itself is gorgeously photogenic - I took tons of photos, including so many of the cats that I made a calendar from them!
Good to know: The walk from the bus station is a serious uphill trek, and the location is very hilly with lots of stairs. After long days of exploring, the maze-like streets can be disorienting - I got lost one night trying to find my way back. This is absolutely part of Chefchaouen's charm, but come prepared for a workout. The biggest issue was the streetlight shining directly into the room through sheer curtains, making it very difficult to sleep. Blackout curtains would completely solve this problem and would be a worthwhile investment.
There was only one roll of toilet paper provided, which meant I had to ask for more - it would be better to stock extras in the room.
OVERALL:
If you're looking for an authentic Moroccan homestay experience with a genuinely caring host and incredible breakfast, this is a wonderful choice. If you prefer privacy and independence, you might want to look for a self-contained apartment instead. Just be ready for the hills and bring your own blackout sleep mask for the light situation!
- Melanie (8/5): -
- Anne (8/5): -
- Hanna (10/5): Cozy & charming riad - So beautiful & design of the rooms was perfection. Great host. Center of it all but up a quiet ”street” aka stairway so nicely located. Up a lot of stairs but then you get a great rooftop view. But if you have bad knees not for you.
- Giovanna (10/5): - Amira is a wonderful woman! Thank you for all
- Paoli (7/5): -
- Paola Maria (9/5): -
- SAYAKA (10/5): -
- Egor (10/5): Me and my wife enjoyed a lot this experience! - Beautiful house, very friendly, respectful and careful host! All was perfect!
- Daniele (9/5): Nice marocan style accomodation. beatifull view from the rooftop - Don't miss the rooftop and the chillout area there.
We loved the Moroccan style room and bathroom as well as the hall for breakfast.
- Thi Kim My (10/5): - I LOVED THE LOCATION, CLEANLINESS, HOST, MY EXPERIENCE IN CHEFCHAOUEN WAS EXCEPTIONAL. MY ONLY REGRET WAS I WISHED I STAYED LONGER!
- Mark Howard (8/5): Great location and breakfast -
The location is right in the heart of the Blue City, a short distance from the main attractions and the Sidi Bouchouka car park. The Dar is comfortable and clean. The owner is very kind. The Moroccan-style breakfast is delicious and plentiful. Payment can be made in euros or dirhams, but always in cash, so I recommend preparing the exact amount in advance.
- Petr (10/5): - Great location, owner really welcoming. Home like atmosphere.
- Abdelwahed (8/5): -
- IRINA (10/5): Amazing - wonderful hotel with hospitable hosts. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The hotel is very stylish, which was important to me.
- Klaudia (10/5): -
- VALERIA (10/5): Tutto molto pulito - Riad pulitissimo. Impeccabile. Struttura molto bella. Colazione abbondante e la proprietaria molto gentile. Bella terrazza panoramica.
- FRANS (10/5): -
- Diego (10/5): -
- Fatima (9/5): Beautiful and authentic riad with kind hosts - Nicely decorated, kind hosts, great location There were no curtains in the room so there was light entering the whole night
- Tetsuya (8/5): -
- Mustafa (9/5): -
- Anna (10/5): Perfectly located, stylish Riad in stunning Chefchaeon, with very helpful and friendly hosts. - Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast. Beautifully decorated hotel, and lots of seating areas with stunning views. The shower was quite small. The room was quite small for 3 people, but we knew that in advance.
- Thomas (8/5): -
- Leonardo (10/5): -
- Merinde (9/5): Great! - Very nice hosts, felt really welcome. Great breakfast on the roof terrace. Good location.
- Barbara (4/5): - Breakfast was lovely. I did feel like I was in a a sort of hostel. Other guests treated the place like it was communal. I asked to change rooms and was accommodated. It was pretty loud and not relaxing. It was not quiet enough for me.
- grant (9/5): Traditional family home, with private facilities and a warm welcome - Located in the heart of the souk, it is ideal for exploring, but many stairs make it a challenge for the mobility impaired. Our hostess was friendly (and an excellent cook), and the entire property was spotless.
- Melissa (10/5): - It’s beautifully decorated and the location is great
Estoy deseando volver pronto.
- Deanna (10/5): - Riad Dar Aldea is gorgeous! From the intricately painted doors and walls, to the beautiful tile and the lattice wood on the ceiling, there has been so much attention to detail.
The breakfast, served on a beautiful rooftop, was my favorite so far, consisting of different breads, egg, avocado, olives, goat cheese, marmalade, almond butter, and of course orange juice and tea.
The staff is very kind and helpful and the room and bathroom were very clean.
The mattress is really comfortable and there was a mattress pad!
My room (second floor with a window overlooking the stairs in front) was small and the bathroom quite small, so maybe not ideal for two people, but perfect for one.
Located in the middle of the Medina, it's a little tricky to find like all of the riads, so it's probably a good idea to arrange ahead of time for someone to pick you up.
I absolutely recommend! There was nothing I didn't like, but I think a fan would be a really nice addition.
- benoit (10/5): -
- Jodie (10/5): Perfect stay. - Gorgeous decor, felt like a little doll house. Wonderful host and great breakfast. Highly recommend. Quite small room, but beautifully appointed.
- William (10/5): Everything really wonderful!! - Beautiful place. Incredible breakfast. Wonderful terrace overlooking the city. In the picturesque part of the old city.
- Lois (10/5): Dar Aldea Provides an Authentic Experience - We loved the location, the terrace views and the warm welcome from our hosts. The room and bathroom were quite small but with access to the sunny terrace, this was fine for us. The wonderful Amina, our hostess, provided us with an exceptional meal one night - the best we’ve had during three weeks in Morroco. Amina knows how to combine flavour and presentation to create a memorable meal.(We had requested vegetarian.)
Thanks to her husband, as well, for ensuring we were well looked. It’s best to travel light when visiting Chefchaouen. Like all places in the Medina, you have to climb a few steps. To us, this is part of the charm.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Super charming rooms dripping with design in a photogenic location. Dar Aldea is set back from a main street, Avenue Hassan I, up a winding staircase (with lots of people waiting for photos). The orange trees out front were in blossom, friendly cats, and yes plenty of blue.
The terrace, and the views of the city and mountain from it, are fantastic. The photos don't do it justice. Dar Aldea also had a delicious and generous breakfast, the best of our trip. The couple were really nice, helpful, and accommodating. The room got cold at night. Make sure you know where your extra blankets are stored if it's not summer.
- Jye-chyi (10/5): Excellent stay in this hotel. - Service is excellent. Staff members are very friendly and helpful.
- Paul (10/5): We had a great stay there and would stay there again if we return to Chefchaouen. - The location was great and we had a very nice room. Our host was very helpful and friendly. She fed us well and helped when I got sick for a day. She allowed us to stay an extra day while I was recovering and helped arrange transportation when we left. We loved staying there and would stay there again if we return to Chefchaouen. We were totally satisfied with our visit.
- Galiotou (10/5): Exceptional - The Lady who owns the Dar is so kind and polite.
We had a small but perfectly functional traditional room with magnificent views of the city and a beautiful breakfast.
I genuinely loved it!
- Min (10/5): Thanks for everything! - Nicely and sweet
- Georgios (10/5): Authentic and characterful accommodation - In the heart of Chefchaouen but in a beautiful and quiet alley, the Dar offers a great view from the terrace.
The room was small but very cosy and authentic, exactly what you would expect. The host was very kind. We felt very welcome. The whole place has character and authenticity in abundance. N/A
- Backpacker (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were friendly and attentive, the breakfast was delicious and the cleanliness was impeccable. The location was perfect in the Medina close to everything.
- Frederic (8/5): Beautiful stay. - It’s a beautiful riad, the reality is better than the pictures. Very friendly family and good breakfast. The location is great and quiet at night. The bathroom was a bit small.
- Susanne (10/5): We will recommend this Riad! - Just beautifully decorated abd fruendly family. Stunning views and attention to detail. A true gem!
- Aleksandr (8/5): Very good - The shower is weird, but its possible to take it
- Heidi (9/5): Adorable bed and breakfast in a great location - Amina is a great host. She made us feel right at home. The room was beautifully decorated and there is a beautiful roof deck to enjoy views of the mountains and city. Amina even made us breakfast to go for our early morning trip. Cars can’t reach the home so arriving and leaving required 5ish minutes of walking the hills and streets of the market.
- Michael (9/5): We were welcomed and taken care of - well fed and given a little orientation to the town - Dar Aldea was perfect for our stay in Chefchaouen - great location, excellent breakfast on the rooftop terrace, clean room with all the color you should expect in the Blue City
- Carmen (10/5): Exceptional - The location was perfect, right in the middle of the old town Medina. The only thing that you have to be aware of is that the cars will not be able to get to the house so pack light :)
The entire family who worked at the facility were very nice, trying to help me get around and cooking a great breakfast for me.
I enjoyed the time staying there and making friends with the house management as well as the owner. Great people!!!
- Susan (10/5): A lovely stay. - They made us feel like family. Finding it would have been hard if we didn’t have help and it was many stairs but it didn’t cost much for someone to help up on the way to the riad. People are very kind here. When we checked out, they happily took care of our luggage and showed us where our driver was.
- Sharon (9/5): I loved it. - Like being in someone’s home. So charming and sweet. Lovely employees. My room was tiny but sooo beautiful. Beautiful balconies with great views.
- Malte (10/5): Exceptional -
- Waqar (10/5): Exceptional - Sister Amina was very kind and made my stay very much comfortable. Thank you Sister Amina!
- Malte (10/5): Lovely hosts, perfect place! -
- Layla (9/5): The perfect place to stay in Chefchaouen!!! -
- Backpacker (9/5): An Excellent Stay In The Blue Pearl - The staff is nice and helpful. I liked the welcome food and drink, it was delicious. You may also enjoy the time at the rooftop with cozy and beautiful settings. Added that you must try the peanut butter during breakfast, I love it so much.
- Adrian (9/5): Superb - Staff were lovely, helpful and very friendly. Location was very convenient, right in the Medina. room was reasonably large and showers were hot. Good breakfast. Overall seem like good value.
- Abigail (9/5): Superb - Loved our stay here, incredible comfortable with a home stay feel with a lovely family. They sorted out an overnight for us in Azilane and even made us a free lunch to take for the hike! We didn't hesitate in booking an extra night for when we got back. Another highlight was breakfast on the terrace looking over beautiful mountain and medina views - highly recommend!
