Guest Reviews

- henry (10/5): Cozy, relaxing, delicious. - Extremely cozy and well located. The onsen was extremely well maintained. The outside bath was especially beautiful with the garden. The food was excellent Nothing
- Daniel (9/5): -
- Trevor (10/5): Perfect Hot Springs Getaway - The staff were absolutely amazing. From the moment we came into view outside, someone was out to assist us with our luggage. Everyday our food was brought with a smile morning and night. The food was exceptional for breakfast and dinner, I even tried things I never thought I would but enjoyed every bite! The hot springs portion was also amazing, very clean, and very relaxing. Everyone on staff was the friendliest people I have met and I look forward to staying here again in the future.
- Boid (8/5): -
RAS
- Oko (10/5): - Fantastic service. Authentic experience. It is a bit of a hike outside of the downtown core
- Kathleen (10/5): -
- Mark (10/5): A true Japanese Experience - Highly Recommended - A fantastic stay, 2 nights with great food and great warm spring.
The location was great and the top service.
- Kateryna (8/5): It was a pleasure to experience a traditional ryokan stay. The staff is very attentive and made sure we were properly ta - The staff, onsen, food None
- Tomasz (10/5): Best place to stay for a couple! - Niesamowite miejsce!
Płot, krzewy, kamienie i te sprawy.
- Giudalberti (10/5): - Everything was really perfect, we enjoyed every single bit.
The breakfast and dinner were really amazing and the outside onsen is really gorgeous.
I would strongly recommend this place. Nothing.
- Cynthia (10/5): a lovely relaxing stay in an all inclusive ryokan w/ beautiful onsen & meals - we were late for check in due to crowded trains, & misdirections, but a single phone call to the ryokan assured us that they would hold dinner for us after we hiked up to the ryokan. we were so glad that they served us in our room. they did not have time to serve courses, individually, but all at once, which was perfectly acceptable as we felt guilty for holding up staff. every time we stepped in the hall, staff always asked if we needed direction or help.
the food was beautiful and excellent, both breakfast & dinner.
this was my son's favorite ryokan of those that we had food service.
our room was quite spacious. there was an entry way with wood floor. to the left was a tea/hot water station. pass that was our private toilet/sink. entering thru sliding doors, was a large sitting area - low table & kotatsu type chairs. to the left were western chairs in a sitting area. to the right was a desk area, very western looking as well. after dinner, staff set up the futons which were very comfortable.
the onsen in the women's area was quite extensive. the changing area had a few chairs in front of a vanity & mirrors. a separate shower area. there were two baths. in one room with glass doors, a smaller, less hot one that i could see a parent might be more comfortable taking kids into. the larger one was set with large stones, one like an island in the middle. this was a huge bathing area for several people, quite hot. one could also go outside and into the outdoor pool area, that was landscaped with large stones, a grotto. the onsen felt otherworldly with the steam rising into the night sky. we stayed at the end of Oct when the weather was in the 40's at night.
the ryokan has a shuttle bus to the train station that you can make arrangements with for one of their pick up times. staff kindly showed us exactly where the stop was as the shuttle serviced other ryokans nearby. we had no complaints.
- Reuben (8/5): Worth the price - Incredible hospitality
Amazing food
Very nice onsen, including a private one Personally felt bedding could've been cleaner
- MASAAKI (10/5): -
- Anastasiia (5/5): big disappointment - The room is clean inside, the food is delicious, and the staff is very attentive. The room has lots of windows, and they have a beautiful view. The outdoor onsen is very small, but nice. Two downsides that, for me, outweighed the entire experience:
1) The ryokan is located on a VERY busy street with all kinds of traffic. Our room faced the road, making it the noisiest we had on the entire trip (you could also hear everything from the outdoor onsen).
2) The biggest downside is that the common areas are extremely dusty, really dusty. Over the course of our two trips, we stayed in hostels, hotels, and guesthouses (we also stayed in a ryokan, which was great), but we never saw anything this dirty. And I'm not being picky; the dust is thick (I'm attaching a photo to prove my point). In the women's section, there are clumps of dust on the walls in the locker room, and in the white-tiled section, the tiles are all covered in soap and mold, and there's a large dusty cobweb under the light bulb. I didn't take any photos, but you can take my word for it. The reviews also said "common areas need updating." They primarily need cleaning (outdated, but clean is perfectly fine for me).
- Grigorii (10/5): Perfect - Friendly and customer-oriented staff. All services are at the highest level. Very comfortable room. The food is excellent. Good location.
- Precious Era Paradero (8/5): -
- Jennifer (10/5): -
- Danielle (8/5): - Excellent traditional Japanese experience. Staff is WONDERFUL!! Think some areas could be a little cleaner, or could use a good scrub. Bit of a hike from the main town area, and buses stop fairly clearly/don’t come by often.
- Kirill (9/5): - Great option to stay in a japanese style accompanied
- Esperanza (9/5): -
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely tatami room with a beautiful view. The onsen was very nice, especially the outdoor onsen set in a beautiful garden. The breakfast and dinners were exceptional! Wonderful dishes, beautifully prepared. Top notch! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved our stay wthere!
- Bryan (10/5): -
- Cindy (8/5): -
- Trish (9/5): Our first Ryokan/onsen experience which didn’t disappoint. Loved the hot springs and in-room dining - The in-room breakfast and dinner service was exceptional and delicious. Soaking in the hot springs, amongst the gorgeous scenery of Hakone was a very special experience.
- Dien (9/5): -
- Qi (10/5): -
- Xiaowen (9/5): Great place to stay in Hakone - All staff are helpful and friendly. We had an amazing stay. Half board food was wonderful and good value for money. Nothing
- Louise (9/5): A fabulous traditional stay for a night. Love the location and the view from our room was fabulous looking over the vall - The experience was fabulous. The onsen were fabulous and the traditional futon bed was comfortable. The food as really great
- Andrew (10/5): - This is a fantastic place to experience the
- Dalton (10/5): - Yusakaso understands Japanese hospitality to a T! This was my boyfriend and I's first time to a ryokan, but we were readily accepted and treated like royalty. The food at this ryokan is exceptional. Super clean rooms with well cared for tatami, with great views into the surrounding plants/garden.
The onsens themselves were incredible. The private onsen is a perfect amount of space, with rolling windows/doors that can make it an open air experience if desired. The public onsen was also gorgeous-- however, a slight warning to those who have never been in an onsen. We *did* have another couple staying at the ryokan, using the communal onsen with us, who were doing inappropriate activities in the water (if you catch my drift). However, this is in no way the ryokan's fault and can't really be helped.
- Wade (10/5): - Onsen was amazing and the staff were extremely nice. We asked if my fiance could be let into the public bath since she has tattoos and they were a little hesitant, but they said it was okay so they were very accommodating. . The pricing was a bit on the expensive side.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful spot - Great rooms, staff, and food. Would definitely recommend
- Carola (10/5): -
- Aya (5/5): -
- Ileana (10/5): - Words cannot describe how much we enjoyed our stay in this ryokan. The hotel is family owned and every single staff member was very kind and polite. The lady serving us dinner and breakfast took time to explain every meal and how to properly eat it. You could feel that everything was prepared with extra care and love.
Our room was very spacious and the view was also stunning. The private and public baths were very well kept with a wonderful view. All in all we're glad we had a privilege to stay in this wonderful ryokan and we will definitely return again for an even longer stay.
- Sean (10/5): Stay at Yusakoso - The service was excellent and the food/onsen were fantastic as well! Staff was very accommodating and could speak English well so we had no issues with any part of the experience. Would highly recommend this place. The hotel is a bit up the hill so I would advise using taxi or bus if that's an issue.
- Erin (10/5): Amazing! The onsen, the food, the location, the service, all exceptional! - Get the food package! It is amazing and such a special experience!
- Melissa (9/5): Would go back again and again! Thank you for your hospitality :) - Excellent service. Beautiful, spacious room. Both dinner and breakfast were amazing, traditional Japanese meals. The onsen was so good for our skin and sore muscles. Appreciated the free 30-minute private onsen, We also used the communal onsen several times and didn’t encounter other guests. Our stay helped us refresh and re-set after our first few days in Japan wore us out due to jet lag and extreme heat. We wish we could have stayed longer! We were satisfied with everything, but some visitors may find some of the common areas of the ryokan to be run down - stains on the carpet and walls.
- David (10/5): - Booked one night here because the onsen looked nice, now I wish I would have stayed a whole week. We arrive to quite friendly staff who treated us like royalty. The hotel has a traditional Japanese feel that I haven’t experienced anywhere else in Japan! To our surprise our room came included with Breakfast and dinner all elaborately served to the room. The staff did everything to make our stay enjoyable and I can’t recommend this place enough!
- Lynette (10/5): - Having a unique experience in an authentic Japanese ryoken with several onsen options.
- Gabriel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandra (10/5): - We (a couple) had a wonderful time in this very nice Ryokan. We stayed 2 days. The food was delicious and of high quality, the private onsen as well as the public mixed awesome very enjoyable. I would highly recommend Yusakaso and thank you so much for this unforgettable experience! Arigato gozaimasu!
- Daria (9/5): Amazing!! - ● Amazing views
● Incredibly nice and accomodating staff
● Stunning, mixed gender open air bath, which was the main reason for us picking this location
● Truly a Zen Oasis! Beautiful, spacious, authentically traditional rooms. Absolutely adored seating on our window bench, looking out at the mountains, listening to the gentle tap of the rain and birds singing. The hotel and its decor in the corridors is a bit dated
- Caroline (7/5): Good -
- Abby Jay (10/5): - Gives you an experience that Japanese locals would do on their time away from the city while also being able to cater to foreign travelers. Onsen was amazing with a lovely backdrop of the Hakone mountains. and the food was a great alternative to the overhyped cuisine many people recommend over social media.
Staff was welcoming and accommodating. Spoke English and communicated the rules clearly and described the dishes we had.
The room itself was spacious, smelled sweet of tatami flooring and was air conditioned.
10/10 would recommend to anyone travelling to Hakone
If you are limited in mobility, travel arrangements can be made as the properly is located 15minutes uphill
- Jj (10/5): Perfect for Couples. - Staff & Facilities were exceptional. Very friendly with good basic English to assist us.
Specific bathing options were great, with lots of variety and felt ideal to keep women safe while maintaing traditional practices.
Food was excellent, well presented and so much more than we even expected based on pictures. The welcome tea and traditional Japanese sweet treat was delicious when we arrived as well. Quite limited number of shuttle busses.
Food preparation is very traditional, but unfortunately that means quite a lot of hidden bones in fish which as we aren't used to it was a bit of a chore to find.
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kristina (10/5): Relaxing and pampered - The staff were incredible. They went above and beyond and were so welcoming and eager to please. We had three people greet us upon arrival and literally run to accept our bags. Everything exceeded our expectations. They carried out outdoor onsen was breathtaking. Indoor are private male and female onsen baths, and outside is shared except in the evening when there is a private time for females. The traditional Japanese food was meticulously prepared. Futons were very comfortable. The room felt very large with beautiful view. Nothing
- Kama (10/5): - They were so accommodating as our flight was late. Beautiful peaveful property with a wonderful onsen. I wish we had more time there. The meals were fabulous.
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Caroline (9/5): Superb - The service, room, baths, and meals were wonderful and authentic. For the price and as a ryokan, I would have expected real futon, instead we had memory foam futons. It was the one less than authentic aspect, otherwise everything else was true to a ryokan stay.
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pooja (10/5): peaceful, traditional, delicious! - This a small ryokan that really allows you to enjoy the traditional experience of an onsen, private bath, kaiseki meals in your room. The staff are so kind and helpful. We enjoyed the hot springs and the peacefulness of our stay! I did not realize that buses to the ryokan ran infrequently so it may be a challenge to get to the ryokan, but taxis are relatively inexpensive. Otherwise everything was wonderful!
- Toms (8/5): Quaint and quiet ryokan with delicious food. - Food and service was great. I was also able to book some time on their private onsen quite easily. Be prepared to walk uphill for a good bit to get to the accommodations.
- Anh (10/5): Exceptional - This facility was better than I expected and looks just like the pictures (or maybe better in person). Staff were very helpful and kind. Their foods were served to us with so much love. The onsen was nice and just what we needed. Everywhere was clean and attended. I'd highly recommend!
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emily (10/5): Amazing food, beautiful onsens, kind staff. - The location is beautiful but its a bit of a trek up the hill. Not a huge deal if you are in shape. We loved our room - it opened to the garden and some beautiful yuzu trees. The mats were comfortable but we were not a fan of the pillows. The onsens were amazing and felt great after a long day of walking. The food was our favorite part of our stay. You are served a LOT of food and it is all so good. We got to try so many things that we had never tried before. The pillows were uncomfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Qiang (8/5): Very good - The shuttle bus to the train station. They actually don’t have one. It is the public bus system or something similar. They should have informed the travelers much more clearer.
- Petro (7/5): Traditional onsen ryokan with great service - Excellent location, beautiful building, great views and amazing staff Food was beautifully presented but the quality was only average
- Todd (10/5): - This was a perfect spot if you are looking for a traditional Japanese onsen experience. The staff were courteous and thoughtful, and the service in room was excellent. The private baths, as well as the public bath outside, were clean and well maintained, and the outdoor bath was tastefully designed. Traditional japanese dinner served in the room was very tasty. I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a retreat!
- Katie (10/5): Beautiful, welcoming, true Japanese experience. - A really special experience, food was truly work of art. We are not big fish eaters, but we got brave and tried it all and are really glad we did. They cannot accommodate non-fish eaters, so be prepared to try truly authentic food. We are so glad we did.
Other people mentioned walking up from the Yumoto station, but there is a bus stop only about 40 ft uphill from the front door on the K line. Daino Chaya is stop name.
Our futons were very comfortable, the baths were amazing, we usually had them all to ourselves. Shu Ku-San took such good care of us helping us understand all the food and customs. This was a splurge, more expensive than any other part of our trip, but it was very memorable.
- Yiu Ting (10/5): - Good
- Krista (10/5): Our stay was relaxing, rejuvenating and clean. - My partner and I loved the traditional dinner and breakfast that was served in our rooms, we weren’t expecting it and the woman who brought it to us was so sweet. We loved both the public and private onsen, and appreciated the women only hours. This was such a special experience and one of the highlights of our trip. Everything was great!

- Fang (9/5): I had a very relaxing time and would recommend this to friends interested in coming to Hakone! - The service was excellent - particularly the lady that helped set up the meals. The communal baths were not crowded. Bath towels were provided for women in the communal bath. The meals were aesthetic and generally tasty. The tea provided in the room was very nice. The meal wasn’t served in as many courses as I expected. Although I enjoyed the meal, I thought that it would be more like kaiseki. The locker room was a bit outdated and old. I wish there was skin products provided in the room, but I got what I needed from the women’s changing room.
- Frederik (9/5): Superb - Very cool and nice experience! Highly recommend It’s located a bit far from the station but that’s worth it.
- Mills (10/5): It was a wonderful stay at the Yusakaso Ryokan - It was a beautiful and authentic ryokan experience. The staff were incredibly nice and very helpful. The food was excellent and both the private and public pools were great. I would highly recommend for anyone to stay here.
- Viktoriia (9/5): Great experience in the traditional ryokan - Extremely friendly and professional staff
Experience in staying in a real traditional ryokan run by the family
Very clean
And of course kayseki meals! OMG it was soo good
Onsen 🍃 The location is up the hill. Be ready that the hotel doesn’t have its own transfer (they use merged bus with other hotel to take people from and to the train station only few times a day, so ask the hotel in advance for this service, which must be paid by the customers)
A little bit outdated facilities and rooms
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional - The breakfast and dinner at Yusakaso was one of the best meals we had in Japan! Tomo was our host. She made us feel right at home, gave us tips and directions around Hakone, and was very attentive to our needs.
- Ernesta (10/5): Traditional gateway - Hospitality, nice traditional dinner and breakfast. Good onsen.
- Olivia (10/5): Wonderful experience - Wonderful experience, we loved the onsen and traditional Japanese dinner. We were travelling with our baby, and it was well set up for families - the kids play area was a bonus we didn't expect. Lots of nice walks nearby, overall a very relaxing stay.

- redwoods123 (10/5): Japanese Heaven! - Loved this place! I chose it because it has a large open air (outdoor) mixed gender bathing area, and my partner and I are hippies from CA. So either that's a huge plus or a huge minus depending on your comfort level with mixed gender nudity. Our room was lovely with a wonderful view, and the food was excellent. I'm planning to go again next year and perhaps every year.
- Petra (8/5): Very good - the staff was very welcoming, they prepared a nice dinner and breakfast served directly in our room, the place has a cosy and traditional vibe, a bit far from Hakone lake and other tourist attractions, the onsen was smaller but everything was ok 👍
- Diego (8/5): Traditional Stay - traditional experience, staff incredibly courteous, excellent dinner. a little overpriced, the fuuton were very hard on the back so be ready for it (we slept on fuuton the prior night and the ones we had elsewhere were more comfortable)
- Szu (10/5): Exceptional - The building is very delicate and they provide authentic Japanese breakfast and dinner. Neither to say the hot spring is very comfortable. If you want to experience an unforgettable Hokone spring travel, you may try Yusakaso.
- Adam (10/5): - Dinner and breakfast were incredible.
- Eric (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amanda (10/5): An amazing place! - Everything was wonderful - great rooms, amazing dinner and breakfast, the onsen was great - both the private and the public baths! All was good - the hike from the bus station to Yusakaso was a bit long (850m, but all of it uphill). But other than that, no complaints!
