Guest Reviews
- Joseph (10/5): - This hotel was like a little apartment. I had my own kitchen, with dishes and cookware. a large bed and a nice bathroom.
The hotel was quiet. And being right on the bay offered excellent views. They have a little area on the bat with chairs and tables where you could sit and have a drink or morning coffee.
Downtown Kotor can get packed, but this area is not crowded. It had a couple small stores down the road with carried the basics.
Theres a local bus that runs down the road in front of the hotel which is a bonus. You just wave at it and it will stop for you. You can pay cash. Its only a te minute ride to downtown. And on the way back they'll stop whereever you ask.
This is a great hotel in a great location and I enjoyed my stay there.
- James (10/5): - Cute and beautiful room/building, wonderful views, friendly staff, parking space out the front, good value.
- Michael (10/5): Beautiful villa, great value - Beautiful place, just like the photos, comfy bed and great view from our window and we could park right outside which was great. There are two restaurants a short walk away and the food is good, right on the water, but you really need transport to get into Kotor. Our host was a mine of information about the house and the history of Kotor. We spent a lovely three nights there as it was such good value.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stunning view - We had a very relaxing few days at Villa Mariner. The room had the most stunning view and the bed was really comfy. Very good value for money.
- sue (10/5): - A beautiful family run property. Excellent location a few steps to the water in the beautiful bay area with great restaurants/bars and shops all walkable. The owner could not have been more helpful with our questions and arrangements with taxis. Would definately recommend.
- Camille (10/5): Thank you for a lovely stay :-) - The host is really kind, welcoming and speaks English really well, which is very helpful and a bit rare for people in Montenegro.
Unfortunately, the guests staying in our room before us broke the toilet, so we had to be relocated at another hotel further down the same road. It was owned by a couple, where the woman was really sweet and polite, but the man behaved weirdly and inappropiately. So the first night was fairly uncomfortable and disappointing. Initially, we wanted some kind of compensation for all the trouble, but we decided not to push for it.
The next day we could stay at Villa Mariner as originally planned, to which we were immensely relieved.
The room we stayed in was nice, of good size and with a great ocean and mountain view.
The hotel building itself is awesome, beautiful and has a great history. You get that authentic pirate vibe.
We received a nice breakfast both mornings, which we ended up getting for free as a kind gesture for the former trouble with the relocation, and that actually made a great difference for us.
A minor sidenote: The kitchen in the backyard could really use a proper spruce up and some thorough cleaning.
We can definitely recommend this hotel :-)
- Gerard Anthony (10/5): - The best vacation stay we had so far! The villa is absolutely luxurious. The dining experience right by the bay is priceless - first class experience! The owner, Aleksander & his family is so hospitable - they treat you like family. Kotor is a vacation you don’t want to miss!
- Gordon (10/5): - Wonderful old building on the sea. I loved the neighbourhood. Very good value.
- Nataly (10/5): - Very nice Old house facing its own access to the water for swimming. We also got our own parking just in front of property. Few nice restaurants around for dining if needed. Great breakfast prepared by Alexander and his son. Thank you for your hospitality !
- William (10/5): Thank you for a fantastic stay! - Wonderful no-frills accommodation in a lovely peaceful location right by the calm protected bay with superb host - helpful and generous! Excellent value for money. We hope to return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A gem - Amazing place. Scenery. Quiet. Tasty breakfast. Walking into the water from the hotel. Felt sorry for the people who spent all their time in the old town where it is relatively crowded. This is a gem and the definition of a summer holiday.
- Stephen (10/5): - A handsome stone sea-captain’s house, clean and friendly. We stayed in the front of the property with beautiful views over the Kotor bay and in a large and comfortably equipped room. Aleksandar was our helpful host. There are several good and reasonably priced waterfront restaurants within easy walking distance and it is a stone’s throw to the bakery and mini market. Hourly buses into Kotor from where you can get to Budva and beyond. The one coast road however runs directly in front of all of the bayside properties and can be noisy at times, but the courtyard garden with orange and banana trees is quiet and good for a picnic and a bottle or two of local wine and beer . Great walks up the Vrmac massif above the house and the old Kotor mule track. Above all a beautiful and interesting country!
- Rebecca (8/5): THE VIEWS - This place was great! It was so cute, and I absolutely fell in love with the views! The bed was comfortable, and the room had everything I needed except AC. It is family-owned, so there wasn't usually someone at the front desk, but I didn't need much, so it wasn't a problem. It is about 15 minutes out of Kotor, but there is a very easy bus, which helps a lot. The view makes literally any tiny inconvenience 100% worth it.
- Eric (10/5): - Great place in a quiet location with incredible views. If your driving, make sure your comfortable with small roads. Enjoyed my stay.
- Nagihan (10/5): - Everything was fine. Location was what I expected.
- Sinisa (10/5): - Everything
- Larisa (10/5): - Very nice boutique style family owned hotel. When we arrived owner was already waiting for us. We received a 5 stars service from him from the beginning to the end (even got a free room upgrade and a bottle of wine). Very convenient location right on the water. Easy on site parking. Highly recommend!!!
- Claude (10/5): Our favorite place to stay in Montenegro - Villa Mariner is a wonderful place to stay.
Only a 20-minute local Blueline bus ride from Kotor (ask the bus driver to drop you off in front of the door), it is much quieter and is a much better bargain than apartments found inside and just outside the old city.
Staff at Villa Mariner (owner, Alexsandar and his two sons) was super helpful in making our stay comfortable and relaxing. Correspondance with the Alexsandar helped us organize our bus travels through the region.
As for the Villa Mariner building, imagine an old fortified mansion with stone walls a meter thick. Apartments are clean, big and well equipped to prepare meals. Air conditioning keeps you comfortable at night. Much restoration has been completed but the place retains its old world character. And what a view of the bay of Kotor just outside your front window!!!
After a day of visiting the old city or after a day’s excursion, return to Villa Mariner in the late afternoon and go for a refreshing swim in the sea. Use the beach chairs reserved for the guests. Everything is just across the street in front of the building.
As for food, good restaurants, a bakery and a small grocery store are close by.
- Mirko (10/5): Very unique place in Prčan, the Bay of Kotor ! - I had a studio apartment which is at ground level and I loved everything about it....design, decoration, lighting, comfort, right at the beach front . There are few little tree's at the property beachfront which provides comfortable shade throughout the day. Aleksandar ( the owner ) is such a sincere and caring person, who tries to fulfill all guests little requests to make them feel special and comfortable. Highly recommend this unique place!
- Sarah (10/5): Lovely stay - Lovely historic place to stay, clean, quiet and comfortable, with amazing views and its own waterfront. Great communication from a very friendly and helpful owner. Would definitely recommend staying here, especially if you want some peace and relaxation by the water. One thing to be aware of is that it is a fair walk into Old Kotor, but there's an hourly bus (cheap) or taxis (about 10euro). But little shops and restaurants within a couple minutes walk.
- TIM (10/5): - Great position and very friendly and helpful owner
- gillian (10/5): - Wonderful location ,beautiful views ,excellent host and staff a perfect stay loved everything about it ,very tasty breakfast done in the garden would love to return some time fabulous place to chill
- semiha mine (10/5): - Owner Alex wonderful person.
So helpful.we are so 😊 happy
- Richard (10/5): - Very cool property right on the water with nice views from the rooms. Authentic stone house. Very friendly host.
- JOSH (10/5): Great authentic stay, great views - What a find! The host, Aleksandar could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. The house is great and has been on his family for generations and it's UNESCO protected. The rooms are reasonable size. My rooms offered ac and beautiful views of Kotor Bay. There was ample parking with spots in front of the House and close by. Aleksandar offered advice on some great local dining options and on things to see locally. He also gave me some ideas on things to see in other cities I was traveling to within Montenegro. My stays (2) were great and I was even given a nice gift upon departure. This place was first rate and I would gladly stay here again. Do yourself a favor and stay here if you're visiting the area.
- Mj (10/5): Incredible - Stunning location, incredible views and a warm and friendly welcome ☺️A truly special place!
- Suleyman Emirhan (10/5): Words are not enough to describe to incredible. - We will come back next year to this incredible house. It's turnt to home for me and my fiancee.Thank you for everything, Aleksander.See you next summer...
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excelent location. Helpful staf.
- Antonieta (6/5): - Too far from everything, the owner disappeared upon our arrival at 7:30 pm and didn’t show up. We left the next morning at 9 and closed the hotel door. No assistance on his side whatsoever. The rooms ok
- orna (10/5): Wonderful - Great hotel
- Verified traveler (10/5): - An absolute gem in Montenegro. Beautiful scenery. Gorgeous room with incredible views. A wonderful place to stay to just wind down and relax. Easy to navigate bus service to get you into Kotor itself. Highly recommend a stay here.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved the history of the building and the area. The peaceful atmosphere was wonderful
- Marion (10/5): - Beautiful property so clean and views just stunning. If your looking for a relaxing break this is the place to stay. Thanks so much to the owner for checking is in late at night
- Margaret (10/5): Excellent accomodation - Amazing view from our windows. Alexander was a superior host. We only wished we could have stayed longer. We would definitely recommend.
Dave and Margaret (Becky)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - On a quite side of the lake some one hour walk to the village of Kotor. Dont assume you can take the bus to go to the city. There is a bus but very unreliable and only seems to come one an hour. The accomodation itself is unique looks like a fortress and is quite and peaceful there even if there is a road in front of the house. We enjoyed our stay and Kotor is very beautiful indeed.
- Sianna Annie Lea (10/5): perfect - Most beautiful room in a great location with a perfect view, wonderful host too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Awesome location and view! We were very pleased! 😊
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location is great. Alexander is great. Breakfast was great. There were no amenities in the room except for hand soap. It was a wise choice not to stay in old Kotor. Alex recommended a local seafood restaurant in Prcanj which was wonderful. All in all highly recommended.
- jános (10/5): - Nagyszerű szállás, ajánlom mindenképpen. A tenger itt mély, csak jó úszóknak való. Bolt, kávézó, éttermek mind itt vannak a közelében, néhány lépés csupán
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Villa Mariner was a wonderful discovery. Everything was just right - spacious room in a beautiful historic house right on the waterfront. Loungers and bathing literally yards from the front door. Alexander was a most helpful and attentive host providing information about all the amenities nearby (excellent restaurant close by).
- terrymcgrory (10/5): - we really enjoyed our 14 day stay at the villa mariner. the property was perfectly situated to meet our needs with a wonderful sea view and stepped access for a swim. the rooms we stayed in where spotlessly presented with the cleaner in everyday. Aleksandar, (owner) was always on hand for any questions and was very approachable and friendly. we did not have breakfast at the property ourselves, but where informed by other guests that they where very good. all in all a superb place to stay and i would have no qualms recommending the property to others. we would go back to the property ourselves at the drop of a hat.
- ralph (10/5): Charming property - The building is 400 years old with some limitations due to the age such as small bathrooms. At the same time, these issues give the building a old world charm you will not find anywhere else. I dropped one star on comfort because the bed was a bit hard for me. Others might love it. The view from the windows was stunning. The owner met us and took us to the room and was very helpful. Small grocery store down the street and three restaurants up the street. Cab to town center is little less than 5 euros. Bus is 1 euro and stops wherever you flag him to stop. We would stay there again. Love the building and view.
- angela (10/5): gracious host, breathtaking views - Villa Mariner was clean and cozy, in a tranquil part of the bay, only a few minutes by taxi from the main bus station. Aleksandar was such a generous host - he gave us local recommendations and helped arrange transportation to/from the city. And the views are absolutely breathtaking.
- Marion (10/5): Perfect place - Place is perfect. Host is very kind.
- Susan (10/5): Wonderful few days - Awesome room - surpassed our expectations- stunning view
- Natalie (10/5): - The property and surroundings are amazing. Away from Old Town and quiet, yet only a 5€ taxi ride away. Walkable restaurants ams markets. I'd like to stay for a week.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We were looking for a waterfront property out of the main traffic area but close enough for a short drive to old town and that's exactly what we got. Beautiful view, quiet and comfortable.
- Apollo (10/5): - This review is separated into two parts. Hotel and Transport.
HOTEL: The hotel is about 25 minutes by taxi from TIV airport. It's on a peninsula between Kotor and Tivat. Alexandar was there to greet us at the door when we arrived. We booked the apartment and stayed for 1 week. The apartment was great, The TV had 100's of stations. The views are spectacular. The apartment has 2 bedrooms, 3 windows in the bigger room and 2 windows in the smaller room. The bathroom was fine, but hot water is limited when showering. A mini-market is next to the hotel. We were there for New Year's, so the apartment was cold. This would be our only real negative to point out other than needing new pots/pans in the kitchen.
TRANSPORT: Its about an hour walk to Kotor. We did it once just to try. There is a bus that comes once an hour. It's white, and says "Blue" on the front. It's one Euro per person, just pay the driver. The times are never exact, so I recommend being on the street at 15 minutes past the hour. You must wave to get the driver to stop, as there are no bus stops. The buses go both ways. So, you can go south to Kotor or north to Tivat. Also, taxis are everywhere. You can flag them down in the cities in you don't have internet access on your phone. If you want a taxi from the hotel, you will need to order it.

- karl (10/5): Awesome stay. - Alexander was a great host. Great information about area history, had great breakfasts. Shower leaked very badly, but I'm sure it will be fixed.
- Adrian (10/5): The best place in Kotor - Aleksander is a great host and really helpful. He has the place in great conditions and is very helpful. Overall the place is excellent and highly recommendable. We truly enjoyed our stay there
- Zoe (8/5): - Stunning location. A quiet stretch of the bay about 5km from Kotor. Right on the water with a shop and bakery only a few metres away, and a couple of restaurants up the road. Perfect location if you have a car or are cycling - I ran/walked and it was a bit far.
Room was simple with a huge bed, TV and fridge. Good WiFi also provides. I didn’t spend too much time at the house, but it was pleasant and the host was friendly.
- Matthew (10/5): Charming guesthouse resting on banks of Kotor bay. - Beautifully simple guesthouse which has everything you need for a relaxing few days by the continuously impressive Kotor bay or as a base to explore the area. Wonderfully friendly host. Simple but perfectly nice rooms with incredible views of the bay. Breakfast in the lovely garden for a (well worth it) extra €5. Private jetty where you can sunbath on the loungers or jump in the sea. A shop with everything you need including beers for €0.80 a few doors down & three lovely restaurants within a short stroll distance. Literally couldn’t fault this place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent! - Quiet and relaxing location with beautiful views of the bay. Clean, historic, and walkable to everything you need. Much better than staying in the busy old city of Kotor.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Small paradise - Villa Mariner is owned by Aleksandar who will welcome you himself in his family house. This 400 years old property is magnificient and the interior is the perfect mix of historic and modern.
You will wake up in front of the marvellous kotor bay waters and have only a few meters to cross to jump into them.
Only issue is the noise of the traffic on the road in front of the house.
This is up to you but I would definitively stay there for 2 nights at least.
Thank you Aleksandar!
P.S: great surprise with a good breakfast in the lovely garden behind :)
- Viviana (10/5): A wonderful place - This was just great. The owner is very friendly and accommodating, the place is charming, with an elegant touch and a relaxing atmosphere. Would definitely go again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): This isn't a hotel. It should be on AirBnB instead - This room is quirky and in a cute spot on this rather busy coast. But its right on the road (like one meter away) and has no sound insulation. So at night it is noisy, noisy, noisy. Bring earplugs.
If you need to be here. This is an ok place for a night or two. It has no facilities. We only heard about the fact that breakfast was available on our second morning (but we'd discovered that the hotel next door does a fabulous breakfast and we were very happy to go there). The view of the bay and mountains is astonishing. There is a good, simple restaurant 800m away. Swimming in the sea is blissful and only 10m from the food. Importantly, it has parking.
- SEYED VAHID (8/5): Lovely antique house - Lovely antique hotel in a beautiful area a bit far from old town you need a taxi 10 euros to get there from main bus hub. Air condition in the room not so powerful . Bathroom a. It small and needs renovation . Host very lovely and helpful he even gave us free cappuccinos. Bay just in front of you to jump in very convenient, can get a bus to get to old town . Overall very good .
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great old building in peaceful location - This is an amazing old Marriners 'Palace' with wonderful thick brick walls. Very comfy beds. We had a suite with kitchen which was great. Sadly didn't get to sample the breakfasts but there are a couple of cafes along the front to use for this purpose. Very friendly staff!
- David (10/5): Great host, great location - Alex was a great host. Breakfast was very tasty with authentic local cheeses and meats plus a special home made yogurt in a glass jar with fresh raspberries, blackberries, and bananas. Excellent capacino, too. All four 5 Euros. Comfortable accommodations looking over the bay of kotor - we enjoyed the private swimming and sunning area. Good recommendation for seafood dinner with the locals just down the road. Close to old town Kotor with buses to get you down the narrow road. Highly recommend this place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The host alexander was very welcoming! Beautiful space. Highly reccomend
- Neil (8/5): Nice Hotel but very noisy traffic. - The hotel owners we couldn't fault, the room was a good size overlooking the sea, had it's own private "beach" not a beach so don't expect a sand but a concrete hard standing as most were. Bathroom very small, but the room had everything you could want, TV, large Fridge, Iron etc as advertised. Very noisy as the road outside had constant traffic even in the early hours, but the view in our opinion made up for this, Cleaner let it down as they never cleaned the room all week but made the bed to a fashion and emptied the bin, and that was it, they never cleaned the floor or cleaned the bathroom all week.
- Deb (10/5): Beautiful place next to water - Friendly, safe, lovely, inexpensive but beautiful
- J (10/5): - Our stay at Villa Mariner was incredibly enjoyable and relaxing. The host Alexander was very helpful, genuine and friendly. He helped us arrange a boat trip, ordered taxis and gave us local travel advice. Anything that we needed he was willing to help. For an extra €5 ppn/pd he provided a plentiful and delicious breakfast. We’d highly recommend staying at Villa Mariner- we’d definitely like to return!
- JAMES (10/5): Perfect stay! - Beautiful centuries old building right on the water where you could take a morning swim, large clean rooms. Owner found us a wonderful restaurant within walking distance
- Verified traveler (10/5): One night in the Kotor area. - Aleksander was a fabulous host. We knew the place was hard to find. The number of the building on Google is 138, but it is actually 136. Once you find it though, it is worth it. We had no local currency, so our host even loaned us money to take the bus into town. Our room was very comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was great. The Internet was slow.. But not a big deal for us. Would highly recommend.
- JULES (10/5): - The apartment we stayed in was lovely and with a stunning view of the bay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great location and easy to get to Kotor centre on a quick bus ride. Lots of lovely restaurants located along the bay too.
- Heitor (10/5): Amazing view and unique look! - Excellent! A unique look and feel inside and out with a wonderful view of the sea. Parking was located right in front, which came in handy. Driving around the narrow stretch can be a bit daunting, but go slow and you should be fine. The gentleman up front was super nice and helpful. Will hopefully come back in the near future and stay here again.
- Robert (10/5): Best value hotel I’ve ever stayed in! - Amazing. Best value hotel I’ve ever stayed in. (30 countries in 3 years). The rooms are great, the breakfast is the best food I ate on the trip. Aleksander is a great host! Great location.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Crook alert! Avoid - I wish I would never have booked this "hotel". First of all, it does not exist, there is no sign, there is nothing to tell you how to find it. The restaurant next door did not know about it. Stay was teriblle, wifi did not work, room was cold, etc. etc. Do not, repeat do not book. Also, owner promised a refund for almost tow months now. Crooks!!!!!!
- Joshua (10/5): Wonderful stay - An amazing place, great views, great value in Amalfi
- Rebekah (10/5): Wonderful villa, friendly staff and beautiful area - The villa is beautiful and has lots of history. The owner of the villa is very friendly and helpful and the housekeeper is welcoming and caring. Both speak English well.
The address number was wrong on expedia and sat nav was not helpful in finding the property so was hard to find at first. But a local was kind enough to ring the owner and the owner awaited outside the property to find me. After that the property was easy to find.
Beautiful location and friendly atmosphere.
Thank you so much
- carmel (10/5): Nice view comfy room - The room was great with an awesome view of the sea and mountains. The place is being renovated so the entrance was somewhat shabby. No one at reception so I had to contact Alaxandar by phone. No public transport so take your walking shoes with you.
