Ute (10/5): Eisenbahndreams in Kithalella- zu empfehlen - Die Lage oberhalb des Bahnhofes Kithalella ermöglicht einen tollen Ausblick in alle Richtungen und ein vollständiges Eisenbahnerlebnis . Man kann von hier aus in Richtung Demodara/ Ella also über die NineArche Bridge fahren, oder in die andere Richtung nach Haputale und dann mit dem Tuk tuk zum Lipton Seat. Wir haben die Schienen als Weg nach Ella benutzt und den Ella Rock bestiegen. Vom Hotel sieht und hört man den Zug. Das Hotel ist zweckmäßig eingerichtet mit sehr bequemen Betten. Alle waren super freundlich, besonders Thushara. Das Frühstück war üppig, abwechslungsreich sri lankesisch und dazu noch Omelett und Toast. Immer etwas neues zum probieren, alles lecker. Meine Tochter schwärmt noch davon. Das Abendessen hat große Portionen und ist sehr günstig. Die von Thushara organisierte Cooking class war in 15 Minuten zu Fuß zu erreichen. Es gibt keine Abtrennung zwischen Dusche und dem Rest des Bades. Das Terrassenmobiliar könnte etwas bequemer sein. Aber Preis Leistungsverhältnis ist einfach unschlagbar

Quiet at night but noisy in the morning, and curtains are not blackout ones. The bed are good, but the WiFi is capricious and very slow. Breakfast is good and the people are very nice and welcoming. Overall satisfaction 7/10, I recommend.

Lazarus (9/5): Super kind hosts serving lovely food and juice. A peaceful, idyllic location. - A lovely little guest house situated in such a calm, peaceful haven. I felt like I was in a model railway! You can see the train coming into Kitgul Ella station from one side of the balcony and then you go the other side to see it curve round. Watching the birds is amazing too. Ella itself is a tourist trap with white faces outnumbering brown by a large factor. In contrast, Dream Catcher is a short trip away and it is super peaceful.

Claudia (10/5): Amazing gem in Ella - We liked everything of this stay. A good smell of cleanliness welcomed us into the room, which was very clean and full of comfort. The position was really nice, surrounded by the green area of Ella. From our balcony we also saw the famous train passing through the forest. The dinner and breakfast were great, made with fresh products. The staff was very nice and welcoming, they helped us during our stay and made sure that we wouldn’t miss anything. It was hard to leave and we would love to go back there. Nothing.

Positives- the young man who seems to do everything checked us in cooked and carried cases . The views - yes stunning , the room no 1 nice except for peeling paint ! Food ok Negatives - bedding tired, balcony chairs old and tatty, NO hot water , railway line runs round the hill on which the place stands , very loud trains . Worst nights sleep on tour , peacocks - say no more !!! Definitely not a resort But if you’re happy to experience this as a change to 4* then do it for one night only !

Tobias (9/5): Astonishing views, brilliant breakfast, peaceful and friendly spot in easy reach of everything. - This location is ideal: easy access to Ella’s rock through peaceful farmland, with a gorgeous train wending quietly through the lush valley. Best of all panoramic views in two directions from the dining room. And the best and most generous breakfast in Sri Lanka. A bargain and beautiful. Very sweet staff too. This is not a slick impersonal resort; it is a small and humble place. Don’t expect 5* facilities. Do relish the proximity to Ella’s attractions but balanced out by the peace, away from the madness and constant noise of the town. If they could improve the hot water flow then it would be perfect.

The room we stayed in (Room 2) was very average. However, room 1 seemed quite chique. The views were magnificent. The food and fruit juices were good. The hotel is up a steep hill.

The owner is especially helpful, picked us up at the railway station and took us to the trailhead the next day. He organized the tuk-tuk for a whole day waterfall trip at a reasonable price. It was so nice sitting on the balcony and looking the view. The breakfast in the morning is outstanding and a feast! The host makes you feel at home and even drove me into town and to my train. Lucy (10/5): I love being in nature so this place suits me!! You have 360degree view of all of Ella - it is so lovely to be amongst a - I loved our stay here!! The rooms are high up and they have interconnected sliding doors - the wind sweeps through and it is just dreamy. The views are outstanding. Wifi excellent! Food was so fabulous - authentic and large portions. Special mention to the chef who makes the most amazing Sri Lankan potato curry - he has inspired me to perfect it when I get home. We also tried many varieties of Roti. The price is excellent and we will definitely be back!! There is a local tuk tuk driver named Lakshan who comes to pick you up and takes you to some lovely spots in the area - Zipline, Little Adam’s peak and the Arch bridge. The price for his 3.5 hours tour was less than I was willing to pay so I happily tipped him. The area is hilly - be prepared for this!

The resort is set amongst the scenic serene hills, on one side you can admire the beautiful valley and on the other side you can see the train track and the hills. The location is amazing, far from the maddening crowd of Ella town, yet just 5 minutes drive and half an hour walk to Ella town. Very close to the Kuda Ravana falls and on the way to Ella Rock. The owner and the staff are so welcoming and will do everything to make your stay comfortable. The food cooked was fresh and delicious. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The road towards the place is steep, but nothing a Sri Lankan driver cannot tackle. We had lovely early morning walks/jogs in the vicinity. Night time star gazing was amazing.

Jonathan (9/5): View of the train tracks from balcony - Walking to the main central area of Ella is via a short cut thru the train tracks. Am experience one should not missed. Lovely views and quiet area. Suited for adventure walkers who doesn’t mind the uphill. Otherwise, a fast tuktuk ride can take you to the accomodation within about 10 minutes. This can also be organised with the owner should you wish. Traditional breakfast was fab ! Staff were lovely. The Pekoe trail is worth a try and can easily be accessed without a need for a walking guide. Nothing. Unless if you have high expectations, as this place is propitious.

The owner is most accommodating and couldn’t do enough to make our stay a pleasant one. Even the kitchen staff prepared lovely vegetarian dishes for us. The rooms are neat. The bathrooms however could do with an upgrade.

We had a balcony on 3 sides. There were also mosquito nets in the room with 2 double beds. We had a Sri Lankan dinner at the hotel which was lovely and the Sri Lankan breakfast was also very good. No charges for paying by credit card. Not applicable.
Dinesh (8/5): - We spent 3 nights there with my family of 5 in two rooms. We found the location difficult to find on the evening we arrived as it was dark and raining. When we arrived we were met by the owner and his staff who helped us with the bags to the room. Given the location we were met by lots of bugs near the room entrance as the hallway lights were on. The owner was helpful and quickly sprayed bug repellant. The room itself was basic but super clean. We were surprised there wasn’t any air conditioning but that’s our fault for not reading the description before booking. The beds had mosquito nets just in case you had the occasional fly or insect and the fan in the room kept us reasonably cool. The views from the room were beautiful and the good thing is the trail to Ella rock runs past the property. We woke up to the sound of the train horns every morning and jumped out of bed to view it. The owner aimed to cater for our vegan breakfast needs but on occasion we found the toast was undercooked, or the Sri Lankan meals which are externally catered hadn’t cooked the meals to the standard of other Sri Lankan meals I’ve eaten. The breakfast is usually heated onsite and when it’s arrived the curry’s have been a little cold so we’ve had to send it back. After mentioning to the owner they’ve responded and aimed to please. Apart from that for the price, location cleanliness you can’t go wrong.

This is a hotel away from the coach tours, where we were looked after. We shall be returning to this secret hotel!

Minna (9/5): Relaxing stay in a small hotel with great hospitality a bit away from the main tourist area. - A small hotel in a peaceful hill with pleasant views. Only 250 m walking uphill from Kithaella station (next to Ella main railway station). Very friendly owner and staff. They treated our driver very nicely. Large and tasteful breakfast. We did a traditional Sri Lankan cooking class that was recommended by the owner. It was exotic and nice experience. Steep hill to get to the place can be a challence to some cars. We made it fine. Also tuk-tuks drive it well.

Claire (5/5): Very poor value for money - The view from our large room was very good and we had 2 balconies with chairs on each. We had a free tuk tuk to Ella town both directions. It's location is good for climbing Ella rock and there's a hostel which sells beer nearby. Our mattress smelled strongly of mould, I often woke up smelling it in the night. We had booked 3 nights but only stayed for two. The manager agreed to not charge us for the 3rd night but only by cancelling our entire booking denying us the opportunity to write a review. Only through complaining to booking.com have I been sent a link to review the hotel. I cannot understand the good reviews for this hotel but perhaps he cancels the bookings of all his unhappy customers. I must say he was a pleasant man who tried to please us once we told him we were leaving early. The booking.com listing said this remote hotel has a restaurant, which it does not. Our first night there we pre-ordered food which was bought in from elsewhere. I think my prawns had been microwaved to death, they were small prawns still with their shells on which were impossible to remove because they were so overcooked. Breakfast the next day was just reasonable although the bananas were inedible because they were so unripe. There are no other restaurants open nearby, except the daytime cafe at the nearby railway station where we ate good kottu. We booked this stay based on its good reviews but found it very poor, especially at this price. We have stayed in many hotels in Sri Lanka on this trip and this was the most expensive and the most disappointing by far.
Par (10/5): Exceptional - We had a fantastic stay at Ella Dream Catcher Resort, where the owner Venura picked us up from and dropped us off at our Beragala cottage. He also took care of all our transportation needs to Ella town and other attractions, which was very convenient. This allowed us to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the resort and the lively vibe of the town whenever we wanted. We just contacted him whenever we needed a ride. We also hiked Ella Rock, which was easily accessible from the hotel as it was located near the trail head. The room and the service were excellent and we couldn’t ask for more.

Venura and his assistant were extremely friendly and helpful. The roads leading to the resort was narrow and worrying. Access to Ella town from the resort is about 10-15 mins and the roads are steep.

Very good value for money! - Excellent location on a hilltop overlooking the railway tracks ((several view points from room and resort) with views of Ella Rock, short walk to a nice waterfall and close to the Organic Tea Plantation. Superfriendly and knowledgeable owner going out of his way to accommodate his guests. Best food (dinner and breakfast) we had during our trip! Very clean rooms with stable hot & cold water supply, insects were not an issue. Ample parking is available, even small buses can reach the location. Nothing comes to mind.
Marco (10/5): Excellent host and great hotel makes a perfect stay! - The owner Venura and his team are excellent hosts! He even picked us up from the station and offered us some rides in the city... The rooms are very nice and clean with a fantastic view into the green and surrounding mountains - For fans of the famous train in Sri Lanka even better, as the train track goes around the property and allows great pics! The breakfast is local style and very tasty. Venura has a big heart, takes excellent care for his guests and is always happy to help with advices, tipps or arrangements. We can strongly recommend to stay at your place!! Really nothing!

Traci (10/5): I felt pampered! - From the moment I arrived, the owner made me feel right at home. The room has an amazing view from the balcony and the four poster bed has a mosquito netting to keep unwanted bugs at bay. Breakfast is included and it is AMAZING!! Little things added to my happiness such as delivering food to my room and picking me up from town and driving me back. The owner also drove me 6 hours to the airport for a super cheap price. I definitely recommend this hotel completely - you get so much out of the price and they make you feel so special. Thank you!!

The room and facilities were so clean, loved the four poster bed and so comfortable too. We had a double balcony with fantastic views of the surrounding area. The dining area is spacious with all round views very clean. The meals were well cooked and delicious. Loved the breakfast. The staff were great nothing too much trouble for them. I do hope I get to go back to stay at Dream Catcher.

Mohamed (8/5): Great Owner and Breakfast. - The location was accessible by Van. But through very narrow street. The owner met us and gave us a briefing about the property. The hotel is walkable distance from the train station. The view out of the room was amazing. Great breakfast with fresh fruits and western and local options. The owner gave us some advice for things to do. One of the fans in the room didn't work properly and it was a bit uncomfortable during the night. Be ready to battle some insects as it's nature. When you are with a family that's not used to such an environment it was a battle.
