Guest Reviews
- Gisela (8/5): - Location Location Location! The food was excellent and the staff very friendly. Paying over $300 per night, I thought the yoga classes that are "included" with the stay would be prioritized for guests. As it turns out, the schedule for the day doesn't necessarily match what's on the website and the classes I wanted were all already taken as they can be booked by anyone. Being able to meditate and enjoy of the classes was the main reason I booked this place...I just wish I had known better and not assumed spots would be reserved for hotel guests. Maybe if I would have gotten an email asking to choose classes after booking to ensure space would be a nice addition to the booking process.
- Eli (6/5): - Costosisimo comparado a las alternativas
- Kathy (10/5): -
- Jodie (8/5): Very nice - It’s a bit of a strange walk to get to the property but it’s so peaceful and has a great view
- Devivo (4/5): underwhelming - I have never felt the need to write a review but hopefully this saves someone from booking a place here and spending a fortune. This place is just for instagram. so overpriced . zero vibe and people were just there to take pictures and post on insta. for the price i really expected more from the room and the set up to be better . was just the most basic room with toilet and shower so far away and no shelter so any night toilet trips become treacherous and you get fully rained on (wet season) . Showers cold and zero privacy apart from a small billowing shower curtain. all of this for over 100 pounds a night. if i wanted a basic and rustic style accommodation could have spent much less and been happy with having an expectation of what I paid for. ohh and don't get me started on the location . If you are a solo travelling women forget leaving at night time between the wild dogs and drunk men you will not want to travel back to the hotel in the completely un lit and isolated walk way at night time, I had to ask a stranger to walk with me as i felt to unsafe to go alone . Posters around the hotel talking about consent and how men should act also made me feel very uneasy.
- Victoria (5/5): Beautiful but lots of bugs - The place is absolutely stunning however I found it very difficult to relax with all of the massive spiders and scorpions in my room - one night a scorpion burrowed into my mattress and I needed to change rooms. Unfortunately there are large cracks around the windows and doors which Eagles Nest should fix to avoid this problem. There should also be bug nets in all rooms (mine did not have one while some others did).
- Oreen (9/5): Great and unique experience- worth the money! - It is a very unique place, the view is astonishing.
The classes are very professional and unique, we loved it. The vibe in the hotel amazing. We stayed at the elephant room which had a balcony that’s near the dry toilets, we really got the smell of everything going on there.
We also felt that the amount of food received will not satisfy everyone.
- Archie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Vasana (7/5): Beautiful view but wouldn’t stay again. - The view and yoga classes We got the “all inclusive” deal but it’s nothing even close to what is considered all inclusive. They serve you three meals a day which are mostly vegetarian. Which is fine because it was delicious. However there was never enough protein in any of the dishes. If you’re staying there, you’re most likely doing all the yoga classes, so you’ll need even more protein. They sell food at their restaurant but it was very expensive and the menu was lacking. All inclusive means your meals and drinks are paid. This is not the case. They provide three meals a day and we always walked away still hungry.
We were staying in a private room where the front of the door was muddy. When they walked us to the room, they laid down a lattice for more grip. The next day it was gone but the following day it continued to rain so we still needed it. It was strange for them to take remove it from our porch.
The dogs- holy freakin cow. All day and night the dogs and roosters took turns sounding off. They gave us a pair of ear plugs but there were two people in our party. I asked for an extra pair but they said they “ran out.” My partner and I could not sleep for the nights we stayed because the animals were THAT LOUD and they never let up. I’ve never experienced anything like it.
If you enjoy taking hot baths- I’d avoid this place.
Although the views were beautiful, I wouldn’t recommend this place and I’d search for another yoga retreat.
- Eva (9/5): Superb -
- Tamara (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the all inclusive style (incl. food, yoga classes, spa). The food was amazingly good, they were really nice in keeping care about my food restrictions and and remembered already after two days, that I hate coriander. Nothing at all - the only thing I could mention is, that it's very loud during the night due to the barking dogs - so don't forget your earplugs. And I was not able tp plug in my phone near my bed, because I had the upstairs bed.
- Kaillin (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place! The dogs and chickens in the town kept us awake all night. (Not the fault of eagles nest)
- Vici (8/5): Beautiful place but very overpriced - The views, the staff and the quality of the property. Excellent food also Overpriced. Some construction happening
- Roni (10/5): Amazing experience - It's more than just a hotel; it's more like a whole experience. I loved my room view; the yoga and meditation were great, and the entire hotel was incredible. I wish I could have stayed for a whole month nothing
- Belinda (7/5): Good - Special location with amazing view. Good courses. Free sauna. Food included. Not a typical hostel with a different vibe. Maybe enough to visit for a day trip.
- Alexis (10/5): This place seems unreal, up there, you feel like you’re daydreaming -
- Alessio (2/5): A 1-star hotel that charges like it’s got 5-stars - The staff was friendly and helpful The access is the very worst you can imagine. If, like us, you have more than a small backpack, then save yourself time and money. The place is worthy $€30/35 at best.
You will be required to park in town, then take a tuc-tuc which will charge you extra for backpacks (as if you were local and didn’t need a luggage). Once the ride is over, you must walk an extra 200 meters through tiny and narrow alleyways, gardens, plus an extra 50ish steps up.
As if this wasn’t bad enough, you’re in for the worst bathrooms of your life. Don’t get me wrong, I’m used to do it in the woods, but here you have to scoop it up yourself and place it in a cat-box; I’m not joking. I’ve never seen anything worse than this in 10 years of traveling through places far more remote than this.
None of all that I said would matter if the place set you back a handful of dollars, but here you’re getting charged for a 5-star hotel.
There were plenty of guests who clearly had time-travelled from Woodstock. If you’re into yoga and spiritual activities, save yourself the fraud and do it elsewhere.
- Farzad (9/5): Superb -
- Kim (9/5): Fabulous views, worth a stay - The view is really amazing! It's really worth spending a few nights there, even if you're not into yoga. The classes were suitable for beginners. The food was good, too, and they offered some evening activities which was nice. They didn't let me check in until 3pm, even though you can enter the room by 1:30pm according to their rules, so that was annoying. The organic toilets weren't really my thing either, but for a few nights it's fine.
- Mike (9/5): Superb -
- Eliza (7/5): Good - The view! Electric ordering system in the restaurant is very noisy
- Rayanne (7/5): Worth it for first timers to the area, holy views - I loved the staff!
The food
The views
They cleaned the room a lot and the compost toilets
The classes offered within your stay! The beds in female dorm was uncomfortable
The walk up when dark.
- Isabella (10/5): Amazing - EVERYTHING!! Amazing place, was supposed to only stay for 2 nights ended up staying for 5! Food is also incredible. Nothing!
- Isabella (10/5): Increíble - Everything! Nothing!
- Hannah (10/5): If you’re looking to leave a place refreshed this is it! - Everything! This has been my favourite place I’ve ever stayed, if you want to come and not go anywhere you can definitely do that. Nothing.
- Tina (8/5): Nice place to chill and do some yoga - The views from the dorm rooms and yoga platform and chill out spaces were overlooking the lake and was absolutely gorgeous.
The vegetarian food was delicious and lots of variety The toilet was a bit far from the dorm room so if you have to go in the middle of night its a bit of a pain
The 2 yoga sessions were spaced too close together. The first one should be earlier so you have time to have breakfast and digest it a bit before the 2nd yoga session
- Jessica (8/5): Amazing views and a great stay in San Marcos. - Amazing views and great for a few days to escape, do some yoga and be healthy. More classes and choice of classes. Dorm rooms could be better value for money.
- Louise (8/5): The stay is an experience in itself ! - I loved the hippie atmosphere, the staff was just so sweet and the food. Not to mention the amazing breathtaking views on the lake all around the place even when in the bathroom ! I didn’t not like the fact that sometimes the toilets were not perfectly clean and I think it’s even more important when you have eco-toilets. Also the outside shower was super nice but was lacking water pressure you could only get hot water in the morning for some reason. All in all this is not too bad but it’s just that the price you pay is very expensive for not having a proper shower. But these are details really. It’s overall a really good place to stay and enjoy the hippie - Mayan vibes around the lake !
- Audrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Raphaëlle (9/5): Superb - On the way from the tuk tuk to the reception I got almost mugged by a local. I gave him money so he would let me go, but that little road became a real stress for me and I was scared each time I had to take it.
- Lydia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rosa (7/5): Good -
- Lydia (10/5): a very beautiful place e - so so beautiful - shame I went in low season but I will be back for the views/yoga and good vibes views
- Sarah (9/5): Amazing views, people and food! - Delicious food, great place to meet people, amazing views for yoga, events going on. It's easy to add on an extra day... There were bugs in the room- giant ants.
- Sarah (1/5): Bad -
- Diana (8/5): Very good - the great views!!! it’s a bit far from the Main Street; so if you’re coming with bags it’s a bit hard to get there… they don’t provide much help!
- Natalia (2/5): commercial and overcrowded, would recommend for day visit but not overnight stay - nice view
local staff working there were very friendly and kind Very commercial, the main focus is on making money and not on providing enjoyable experience. they try to fit as many people as possible and it gets overcrowded very easily. often it’s difficult to find place to rest, people are everywhere.
There are 4 compost toilets for the whole property and they are very dirty most of the time as it’s impossible to keep them clean for the amount of people that are there. They would need to be cleaned every 3h to keep them clean.
if you are serious yoga practitioner and want to retreat, this place is not for you. yoga classes were average and I would be careful before attending any events there, especially Tantra. Mixing spirituality with desire to make money might cause more harm than good!
IMPORTANT: when booking I received information that all yoga classes are included and that all the events are free. upon arrival I was told I can attend 2 yoga classes and events are 50% off (20usd). I wrote to management to point out that they provide false information. the only reply I received was that it will be mentioned during next board meeting…(maybe it’s time for some of the staff to realize they don’t work in corporate anymore and some of the customer service skills would be useful in hospitality business) …until now, month month after my stay there, the false information is still visible on booking.com profile. This perfectly summarizes values if that place.
With all above, the value for money is none existent. I still can’t believe I paid 70USD per night for a dorm in Guatemala.
- Sarah (3/5): Not what it could be - Good view from the yoga platform, nice decor in common areas, good idea in theory but execution is poor I stayed in the female dorm and left a day early. I had been badly bitten by ants while sleeping. The room is wooden and the structure has huge holes, for example between the window frame and the wall there's up to an inch gap. My bed had a window each side and was next to a door with a gap so it wasn't possible to keep the ants out of the room, or out of the bed, even with citronella candles and STRONG bug spray. I've stayed in wilderness/jungle/remote hostels and never had this problem with insects getting in. Staff I encountered were dismissive at best, with the exception of one yoga instructor. If you go to town you'll need to be back before dark as it's a winding walk through narrow unlit pathways to get back up to the hostel, due to the nature of the location. I agree with a previous reviewer who said the atmosphere is terrible, not much management can do about other guests but be aware that between staff and some other guests it wasnt a nice place to be and far from the relaxing/spiritual environment advertised. I did email feedback to the management directly when I left but got no reply.
- Monica (10/5): I would stay here again. it’s really an experience - it’s the most different place you will visit. it’s very special beautiful location and views and the food is really good. it was difficult to find and there were not enough details or welcoming to the hotel. it has a lot of classes events / the food system, it’s all a bit confusing coming in.
- Mae (10/5): Exceptional - Once in a lifetime views and community feeling.
- Michael (10/5): Incredible view and the food was better than the restaurants in town. - Incredible view and the food was better than the restaurants in town
- Melissa (7/5): lack of good management - beautiful views cold shower
- Roisin (9/5): I chose Eagle’s nest inn for a quiet few days to reflect, do yoga, and rest. I feel that I got this and more. it’s a ser - I really liked the vibe here. If you’re looking for a yoga style retreat, you’ve come to the best place in Lake Atitlan. For the price, there wasn’t anything you could argue was bad
- Joel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marimal (7/5): well... not really (for me, at least) - Stunning view, light vibes, everybody very friendly and relaxed. Activities every day, community gatherings, music .... wonderful atmosphere! Wooden buildings, nature all around, nice personnel. Oh, the cleaning... I look like an addict - my arms and legs are full of scars. I came home with a lot of bites from some sort of insects (not mosquitos, apparently). My room was cleaned only once (same with the bed linen) and this happened because I asked for it. I stayed 19 days in total. To me, it was also overpriced. It is nice for a couple of days - because of its vibes - but more than this... I don‘t know.
- Jonathan (8/5): Stunning view. Truly Stunning. - The view was stunning. So stunning that the rest of this review may be irrelevant. They yoga instruction was very good and the staff were friendly. Ongoing noise from construction. No water pressure when showering. No blackout curtains so you will wake up with the first sun. Difficult to get there if you have heavy suitcases, you may want to pay for a porter.
- Mazhar (7/5): Good - great views and the food included with the hotel was delicious The water pressure was so bad couldn’t shower properly
- Marie (9/5): Beautiful view and nice that the meals was included. Did not need to do the hike downtown if I didn’t feel like it. - The view here is amazing. The view from the showers are something special! The restaurant is so nice and it’s overall a good place to meet other travelers.
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional - The yoga and views are amazing. Join one of the dances.
- Katharina (8/5): relaxing and clean space with a spectacular wiev and delicious food - the view is great, the dorms nice and cosy, the food delicious and the staff very friendly and helpful there are a lot of cats and I am alergic, but since it is all open spaces it was not that bad. I just didn‘t like it when they were trying to eat my meal out of my plate…
- Magdalena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brittany (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cathrin (7/5): Digital nomading - Booked the place to have some time away from home working in a nice place! The views are stunning, atmosphere is nice, rooms are as on the pictures and outdoor shower has breathtaking views. Vegetarian food portions are decent (lower on the protein side yet you do get eggs).
A few notes - if you have a job where you are also on conference calls the set up is not great as there is no privacy. WiFi is ok - video might need to be off on zooms though. Further, though the food is good the service is very very slow! In addition the yoga times and food windows could be timed better and the one really challenging thing was that there is no coffee until 7.30/8am which is late given you wake up around 6ish by natural rooster alarm clocks.
So as long as you are easy going it’s a great place and super nice people to connect with!
- Rachael (7/5): Good -
- Anna (9/5): Incredible views and rejuvinating place to spend your stay at Atitlan! - The kitchen staff and the food was absolutely incredible. The yoga platform cannot be beat - truly a unique and epic place to practice or to simply take a look. The events at Eagle's Nest vary widely - not all will be for everyone so it's great to go in with an open mind knowing some may be wonderful and some may not be your thing.
- Michelle (1/5): Terrible value rude staff!!! - The views and events Not helpful staff, terrible food not enough showers our bathroom especially on events.
cold water because they have 2 showers next to one another and using the same solar heating system.
no places to lock your things in shared dorms
and no mosquito nets even in private rooms, making it possible for bugs coming to share your bed and dust.
- Ioannis (9/5): Chilling with spectacular views - The location is amazing, enjoying a picturesque view from every point of the premises! Big clean bedrooms, with excellent comfy beds! Very good food, big enough portions and very friendly kitchen stuff. Sauna and the events included in the accomodation are a big plus, alongside with meeting people in the common areas, making the stay an overall very enjoyable experience, despite the rather expensive price. The yoga classes included in the package was of very low quality. Definetely should reconsider the adequacy of the yoga instructors, the variety of the offered classes and the time schedule.
The water for shower was neither warm or with enough jet, but guess this is a problem of the whole area.
- Eden (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nina (5/5): Magical view with not so magical service - Exceptional view and nice food! The service from non-local staff was lacking which includes friendliness and attentiveness. For a hotel I would expect a certain level of service (including cleaning the room or at least making the bed).
- Frederick (5/5): Passable -
- Daniel (4/5): too many scorpions for this expensive price - view from the hostel are awesome and the yoga classes are really good why I gave only 3 points
- we had a lot of scorpions in our room. but that’s actually not the bad point for us. it was how they handled the situation. my wife and I are from Europe and we are not used to scorpions and when we told the girl at the reception there is a scorpion in our bed, she just said don’t care about the scorpions and the continued kissing the guy. sorry but when you pay so much for a hotel/hostel I would expect more help.
- it’s really loud there. so you can’t sleep without earplugs. you hear really everything from the snorring of the people 500 meters away and the dog’s. OMG! the dogs are barking all the night and in the morning the cock crow’s.
- and the hippie guests are not Hippies. they just like to dress and behave like this but they are not open and friendly to other guests if you don’t dress the same like them. also they are so consumerism and you need a iPhone. which is funny I guess.
- Simon (3/5): The price let it seem like a hotel but everything felt like a hostel. - The view is great. Scorpions in the room made us feel quite uncomfortable. The staff did‘t actually seem that they want to help you. The vibe doesn‘t seem integrative. Although it was advertised as ‚plenty of vegan options‘ we always had to adjust our food. The price is ridiculous for what you get.
- Mahmut (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stefan (7/5): Nice location, cool events, not worth sleeping there. - The staff of this property, kitchen, reception and events was exceptionally friendly. Also, events organised, like the community day or movie night where amazing to meet new people. The view from the platform as well as the yoga classes where phenomenal. Also the photographer submitted nice fotos to us. The included food was very good quality and delivered with love from the kitchen staff. The management lady was exceptionally rude to me one day when I talked to one of her staff about more details for an event. Quote: "Look it up on the website." I felt like I am one of her hires and she continued to snap at her staff. Maybe she had a bad day, in any case I was a customer, even in a hostel, that is not acceptable.
The rooms, I stayed in a dorm and in a private room are basic. My dorm had scorpions, spiders and ants. While it was clear from the setting, I feel the management is not investing in fixing the rooms (for example sealing the doors, walls). The price at this point was around 80 dollar or more a night for a dorm which is not worth it, even because you can attends as a day guest.
Also, when asked to use a community room for a event the management asked for a ridiculously high extra charge, even if we where the only guests at this time.
In addition, I feel the timings for the food are ridiculous. Guests should receive vouchers and be able to eat (e.g. 2 meals during the dinner) if they miss the lunch.
- Jennifer (7/5): Good - The view and the Yoga Plattform are just amazing! It is a perfect location to come down and relax during the day! The people working there are local people - what I really liked - also if the owner is not a local!
I loved the food and as well the Yoga Classes - all classes are different - and every teacher I had was great on his personal way! I was not expecting such a wildlife in my room - but yes - it is in the Forest and it is some kind of normal to have spiders in the rooms - but having a really huge ants street at the bed and scorpions where a little bit hart for me- but the manager was giving his best- and was giving me another room.
some rooms are already having some kind of ‚real‘ walls and they let me feel a little bit more safe than just the wooden house with a lot of gaps where all animals where basically invited to come in.
- Einav (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nitzan (10/5): Exceptional - Great views
Awesome outdoors shower
JB the manager was really nice and helpful
- Asaf (9/5): Read before booking - - The place is beautiful and had good vibes
- the bed was the most comfortable that we had in Gutemala
- the shower is great (although it's not private, and its an open shower so it can be super cold in the evening and early morning)
- The yoga classes were professional - The way to the hotel is THE WORST! It's uphill where cars can't reach so you need to take a tuktuk but even after that there is a 10 minuets walk of stairs and rocks. We didnt know that and we had to carry our suitcases on our backs.
- THE TOILETS ARE NOT PRIVATE, and also they are dry toilets. They smell really bad and sometimes we could smell it from our balcony.
- the private room is beatiful but it's not completely sealed, which means you share your room with ants and spiders. One of our suitcases was full of ants so make sure you close everything while being there.

- Nodien7 (8/5): Beautiful and pleasant place despite few hiccups - The view is outstanding. I've to few miradors around the lake, and the view here competes with each one. We even saw volacn Fuego in our last morning. Also the place itself is very pretty and we enjoyed our room and our private balcony (also with the amazing view). The yoga teacher (Ella) was good. So were the meals, which were not that big but I was never hungry. Overall we enjoyed our experience. We checked their weekly schedule in advance (do it, it's important) and we knew that on Friday there's a community day and we were OK with that. But it wasn't the case. Instead, there was a dancing party, which is really not our cup of tea, so we didn't take part, and also it was very loud until late at night so it delayed our sleep. We didn't know about this party in advance and might have not come if we had known. Apparently they advertised it mostly in ads in San Marcos and San Marcos' Facebook so we didn't really have a chance to know.
Second of all, in my opinion they are a bit over booking some of the classes. In one of the classes all of us barely had room on the platform. It's also not good because the teacher can't give attention to most people that way.
Also once one of the teachers "couldn't make it" so the class was delayed by an hour, but we've been told that was the case only after waiting 20 minutes on the platform.
- Shahak (9/5): Superb - The view was amazing really hard to get to the hotel with suitcases
- Hai (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sarah (9/5): beautiful yoga retreat - absolutely beautiful location
delicious food
lovely staff
the yoga was great no facilities to get hot water for cup of tea!
- Siegfried (3/5): Poor - Everything was great I paid an exorbitant fee for my room because it stated specifically that mine came with sauna access, this is solely what set it apart from every other booking and why it was expensive. Upon arrival I was simply told that "sorry it's only open three days a week and isn't available" this was not stated anywhere online. I feel like I got ripped off and would like compensation.
- Sarah (10/5): Blissful getaway - Loved the vibe, location, yoga classes, views and food. All staff friendly, kitchen staff ON IT. Sauna + yoga my favorite parts, challenging but approachable yoga classes for all levels. Loved the shared outdoor shower. Fun Friday community day - learned silks for the first time! No complaints
- Yonatan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Martina (10/5): Exceptional - absolute stunning view, the place is eco friendly and everything cared to details. the tree meals provided are delish!! and last but not least, great yoga classes twice a day 🧘🏻♀️🫶
