Micheal (2/5): - Awful experience overall. The front desk has a torn up sign taped to it saying the pool is closed (wouldn't have stayed there had I know prior) Was told some lie that the pool would open "when the snow flies" by the rude front desk clerk that couldnt tear herself away from the TV to check us in. The linens and towels are all dingy yellow and looked dirty. The carpets were filthy throughout the entire place. The breakfast is comprised of ultraprocessed junk food with no fresh options at all, not even apples or bananas. There was no cream for the coffee and was told "thats a good thing" since they had enough people stay there to use it all. It wasn't good for us and it was an ignorant thing to say to people who are currently staying there. Total waste of money, and it wasn't cheap $$. My family of 4 were miserable there for our 2 night stay, and they insist on full payment upfront..its not a mystery why after staying in such a filthy poorly run establishment.

Paula (4/5): - I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The first room we were given had clearly not been cleaned — it looked used when we walked in. I had booked two rooms for our trip, but they weren’t even located near each other. The breakfast was also very poor, offering only cereal and a few small items. On top of that, the beds were extremely hard, and I spent the entire night tossing and turning. Overall, this was a very unsatisfactory experience.

Carla (8/5): - Great staff, older hotel but generally well kept. Pool closed for repairs when we were there. Best fresh made cinnamon rolls for breakfast started the day out right. As with most hotels, short staff meant the owner was there to make the rolls and check out guests. Pride in providing great service was evident.

Lisa (10/5): - We stayed two nights in a clean and comfortable room on the first floor with a second door that opened towards the parking lot that made loading and unloading suitcases easy. The place was quiet and not fully booked in August. The staff was polite and helpful in suggesting dinner options. We liked The Dam Restaurant up the street. The continental breakfast was OK, with cereal, milk, coffee, toast, and some other items. The only thing I didn’t like was the bed. The mattress and box springs were rather old and creaky and the bedding could use some updating, but it was fine for the two nights. The hot water in the shower was lukewarm the first day and hotter the second day. It could be because more surrounding guests in other rooms were taking showers at the same time the first day, I don’t know. All in all it’s a decent place to stay to visit Voyageurs National Park and Crane Lake. Bug spray on exposed legs and arms is a must! Long hiking pants and a thick shirt is needed for trail walking, or else spray your shoulders, too. We walked the gorge trail on Crane Lake and I was stung by mosquitoes multiple times all over both shoulders through my tee shirt. Mosquitoes were everywhere. I wore a hat or my scalp would probably have been stung, too.

The kids were disappointed but if you have a boat there are plenty of swimming opportunities! Would highly recommend especially once everything is completed!

Daniel (4/5): - Depressing experience. -The staff were friendly however I don’t believe they knew how to do anything. -No hot water. -Pool and hot tub are permanently shut down which was a dissapointment. -The bar is shut down. -The restaurant is shut down. -outside of the building there is significant rot and degradation to the exterior of the building -we went to go for a swim but they are too lazy to even take the weeds from the dock so it all seaweed. If you plan to park your boat there maybe reconsider as you’ll probably get weeds in your prop. -they had tons of empty lake facing rooms and they didn’t upgrade us which is fine but unprofessional. We asked how much it would be to upgrade to a lake view and they didn’t know how to do that and told us we’d have to pay full price. So don’t expect to make any changes to your reservation. -the breakfast was labeled a “continental breakfast” it was milk cartons, eggo waffles, hard boiled eggs, and cinnamon rolls. Make sure to wake up early because they only make about 10 cinnamon rolls and so there is not enough. The coffee is good. -dock was also falling apart basic things like the bumper trim which would take all but 5 minutes for an employee to repair with a hammer and a handful of nails shows exactly how little they care about the place. -everything is very outdated and very odd and liminal feeling colors. -beds were fine but very very cheap and hard. -stains on walls and carpet in our room The good: Bed was clean Free WiFi

John (10/5): Unique Quirky Kind of Place, in a Good Way - This hotel is gorgeous, as are the grounds. It was oddly empty though, both guests and staff. It feels like we were there at the wrong time of year or the wrong era. A bit dated in some ways, but it also feels like it was a top of the line resort at some point. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We very much enjoyed our stay.

vickij758 (4/5): I do not recommend - First there is not an open pool or sauna as advertised and there was no bar. While this is not necessary, it is what they claim. While I appreciated the homemade rolls for breakfast, there was not any regular hot tea. The lady behind the desk did not provide friendly service and when I inquired about tea she walked over and shook a box of a few mint decaf tea and said “we have tea” and walked away. Our room had a smell that never went away even keeping the windows open for three days.

Melissa (10/5): - Oveson’s is the best place to stay in Orr. The pool and hot tub are closed permanently. But I didn’t go to Orr for that, there’s Pelican lake! Continental breakfast is good..cereal, yogurt, juice, milk and baked cinnamon rolls. The lodge is decorated nicely and there’s a sitting area with a TV, also tables and chairs if you wanted to play a game with your family. The mattresses are so-so and the linen is dated but clean. The service was excellent and one older gentleman was always so helpful and polite!

Big hole in middle of blanket. The whole bedding situation- from the 60's? 70"s? a little updating is good. No daily maids... I had to ask for more toilet paper and towels... One guy at front desk was great... nice - attentive- but two women were the worst- barely even acknowledged your presence- lots of stains on carpet in room- come on! clean things up a bit- Pool was out service the whole time I was there- five days!! Boo!

Laura (8/5): - The property itself is gorgeous. It’s right on the lake. However….. there is no bar/restaurant inside or connected to the hotel. The breakfast wasn’t a lot, just toast or muffins. Our first morning/full day there there was NO hot water and we couldn’t shower. Checked with front desk, they didn’t care or seemed concerned and said owner didn’t care. We were there 5 days and we finally received fresh towels our last night there. We still loved the place! The staff was very nice, lobby was nice and comfortable. It was perfect as it was close to the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary which we were there for. There’s a family owned cafe right down the road that had great food, The Pattens. And a grocery store so you could grab snacks if needed.

Tour52663850228 (4/5): Staff unable to handle our situation. - No hot water in the shower, shower had extremely slow drainage, fridge did not work. Called the desk about this, was a very understanding man who was not able to give a discount because he was not trained to do this. He kept saying I can give you the owners phone number. This was a weekend and no one at the desk was trained to help with this situation. A trained manager would be there Monday. We were supposed to have two queen beds, they were full size.

Lacey R (6/5): - This would have been a solid place and my review would have been "shabby but fine" until there was ZERO hot water all morning. We stayed here three nights. One early in our trip and two nights at the end. Our room was clean if outdated and basic. It still had good value. There is a continental breakfast that is fine. The pool and dining room are not operating currently. Staff were pleasant but indifferent. Not problem solvers or especially hospitality-minded. There often isn't anyone at the desk and ringing the bell does not actually summon anyone. It's a very basic hotel on par with a cheap chain motel. Which would be fine but not having enough hot water for guests in the morning is inexcusable. I wanted to ask the desk when hot water would be available but no one was there.
schlegal1 (6/5): Disappointed with lack of basic hot water - Not terrible, not great. We stayed three nights total. The term "resort" in Northern MN seems to just mean "hotel with water access" so that's important to know. We didn't have high expectations---just a clean hotel with a good night's sleep and proper facilities. Unfortunately, this hotel didn't have enough hot water for guests in the morning (or sometimes evening). That's not acceptable. When we tried to ask staff about it they were nowhere to be found. The room was clean. The place was quiet. Staff was fairly friendly (though often absent). Breakfast is very bare bones, even for a continental breakfast. Rooms are outdated but completely comfortable. WiFi worked fine.

However, the pool and relaxation wing of the hotel was closed for remodeling(?) but I was not told of this before we arrived. I would not pay regular rates when so many amenities are (temporarily?) not included.
Robert (10/5): - We liked the location being closer to the international border. The continental breakfast was satisfying. The check in was one of the smoothest I’ve had. We’ll be back.
Rhonda (10/5): Overnight travelers - This is the second time we've stayed here on our way to Canada. The staff is friendly, the hotel is clean and safe. We got a good night's sleep and that's all we needed!

Heather (10/5): - There's a lot to do around this hotel, as it is situated on a lake (it's Minnesota, so this is probably to be expected). This was convenient to getting to the southeastern side of Voyageurs National Park. The room was adequately comfortable and felt clean. Breakfast begins at 4:00 a.m. which is convenient for hunters, fishing people, and truckers. They serve pizza 24 hrs/day. The staff was friendly.
Mateusz (6/5): - We picked this location due to the availability of swimming facilities for our daughter. However upon arrival we were told that the pool is it of service and is yet to be brought back to service. Staff was welcoming and informative, room was clean. I do wish that the Continental breakfast consisted of more than just sweets, muffins, waffles, boiled eggs, cereal and coffee. Bacon and sausages would have been great to have in the morning.
sjoh1963 (4/5): The list of amenities is misleading - The hotel lists a pool and hot tub in the amenities. Both have been closed for over a year. It is a dated building and dated rooms. Breakfast is blah and does not offer much. Staff members are nice and the location is beautiful. Heard loons in the morning.

Steven (4/5): - The most disappointing thing is the pool, hot tub and other amenities were closed for maintenance. I think we should know this when we book. We assume the price we agree to includes the amenities listed. It appears the pool and hot tub have been down for some time. Breakfast was very basic. Coffee was good. Staff were friendly. The room was basically clean and the beds were somewhat uncomfortable. Blankets are old and need to be replaced.

Not good ! Breakfast was poor ! No outside seating for looking at lake etc. room was good and clean good fridge ! Cannot believe the pool had been in maintenance since I booked a year ago ? Providing no cooked food a big no no ! Or a bar ! Was not given any notice prior very disappointing! Could be perfect if bat and gym and pool and outside seating available

Ronnie (4/5): - They advertised a pool, spa, and hot tub. We were disappointed none of it was open or available. The shower in our room had a broken seat and there was plaster on the floor in it. The soap dispenser in the shower was empty. The garbage was flowing over at the back door. Just not worth what we paid.
David (10/5): - The property was quiet and had a dock where you could fish and enjoy the view over Pelican Lake. The room was fine, the bed was comfortable. There aren't a lot of food options in the area, so make sure you have a plan for food before you arrive.

Debra (4/5): - It was close to the bear preserve. The room was not what I paid for. None other available. The carpet was stained. Room had an unpleasant odor. I sprayed the room with disinfectant and sanitized all touchable surfaces. Pool and hot tub closed for maintence. Will never stay there again.
