Guest Reviews
- Gary (4/5): Worst overnight stay ever. - I have no idea how this place has such high ratings. Although initially the check in clerk was kind and somewhat helpful, my stay at this hostel was disgustingly bad. I opted for a private room which was actually not even close to what the misleading ad boasted. It was very hot with no thermostat to adjust the temperature and it was also very dirty. The entire place smelled like the combination of a filthy college dorm room and a musty locker room. It was rather disgusting. I booked the room to get a good nights sleep and got none at all due to the combination of several disheartening matters. First of all, as I stated, the room was very hot with no thermostat. Then there was the continual noise from an entry/exit door next to my room which had a loud clanking lock mechanism that sounded off constantly throughout the night as people went in and out. The room was not sound proof at all. Worst of all, after lying on the bed for a while I began to feel itchy bites from something (bed bugs maybe?) all over my body. After a full sleepless night of this ridiculousness, around 6am I eagerly rushed take a shower to wash off whatever was biting me in my bed and in less than five minutes the shower water was ice cold. I sincerely do not care to write such a critical review but the truth is that this place was terribly misrepresented online and it was so bad that I honestly would have been happier to have slept outside in a tent at a local campground.
- Carlos (10/5): Great place to stay in Chattanooga's action area - Great location, facilities, and free complimentary stuff they offer such as Coffee, and earplugs to sleep. The beds are clean and comfortable, shared bathrooms are clean. The only missing thing with this hostel is free parking, but there are plenty of options nearby to park, of course, you need to pay for it - I spent between 4 pm on the arrival day to the next day around 11 AM $30.
- Debra (8/5): - It was ok for the price.
- Triana (10/5): - I absolutely love this hostel! It’s nice and clean and the staff is really friendly and helpful ! I’ve stayed here a few times since the 1st time. As a solo female traveler I would say 10/10 recommend!
- Christopher (10/5): Perfect overnight crash - Traveling with a family of five this couldn’t have been more perfect. Great location with excellent restaurants within a short walk and room set-up was perfect for our group.
- Henri (10/5): Simple, Elegant, Awesome - Overall really awesome place. The building is just a few years old and has a modern, simple and elegant design to it that I liked. Service was good, though bear in mind they leave at 9pm. It was a little hard to find at first. It's behind the Flying Squirrel restaurant. You want the gravel driveway off Passenger St.
- Brian (10/5): - The host Elliott was absolutely delightful to talk with and learn about hiking the local trails. Really a good local find.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Home away from home comfort - CrashPad felt like home away from home. Simple but bright and airy, great location next to Flying Squirrel also owned by CrashPad. We would have loved to use the Fire ring outdoor area but we’re in town for a race with limited time. Somehow concrete floors seem so much cleaner than carpet… there was some stray crumbs and confetti from prior guests but minimal. We like the LEED certified simplicity and design - bathroom could use a new coate of paint but not a big deal. Thank you for the fun and unique stay, a welcomed concept which made our Chattanooga experience much better than prior visits to this town.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A good time! - Came to the Crash Pad for a climbing competition and was not disappointed! The place is very clean and the staff are very friendly
- Erin (8/5): Great location, no free breakfast - The location was perfect, it was very clean, bed was comfortable. But, they no longer offer free breakfast or a manager’s reception.
- Ana Carolina (10/5): - The place is awesome. Hard time to do check in. They are never around there.
- Jason (8/5): - It was very clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place to stay, great location. Definitely recommend.
- Morgan (10/5): - This is the best hostel I have ever stayed at. I had one of the bunk beds but had loads of space plus the curtains if I wanted privacy. (I felt likeI was staying on an overnight train!) The common areas, both inside and outside, were really nice.
As far as the location -- it couldn't have been better. There were restaurants and bars right there. And, if I wanted to head into town, it was easily walkable or I rented a bike.
I will stay there again for sure!
- Lorna (10/5): - I had a great stay at this property and it was my first stay at a hostel. The Crash Pad offers bunk style beds and private room options. It’s located in a great area with lots of great restaurants in walking distance. I would definitely stay here again.
- Mariann (10/5): - Bathrooms clean. Bed comfy. Outdoor patio nice for socializing.
- Kindell (10/5): Perfect place to crash for the weekend! - This place is definitely one of a kind! It was my first hostel experience and I enjoyed it even though I was reluctant when booking. I needed an affordable and safe place to stay and this was exactly what I needed. I loved having dinner next door at the Flying Squirrel and the surrounding area is absolutely amazing. It’s a fantastic location! Which consequently makes parking a bit of a headache, but it’s worth it. I had to park in a nearby parking garage the first night, but got a free spot behind the building the second night. Comfortable, clean, and love how eco-friendly it is! Definitely recommend!
- Brandi (10/5): - The Crashpad was very nice. My only complaint is, my room was hot. Other than that, it's a great place. I'd stay again.
- Neil (10/5): Positive experience - Wife and I were in town for one night to see son and his family. Crash Pad was close by and perfect for us. Good accommodation. Will stay at the "Pad" during my next stay in Chattanooga. Good job!
- Marnnie (10/5): Love this place! - The Crash Pad was my first hostel experience ever - and I loved it! From the moment of checking in, I felt comfortable and welcomed. The bunks are very comfortable & the curtains provide nice privacy. The bathrooms are super clean. Each guest I encountered was pleasant & nice to talk with and had respect for others. Unlike at a hotel environment, at The Crash Pad, it felt relaxing and normal just to chat with others as if it’d been planned we were all there together. Not once did I feel unsafe about staying there on my own. It’s a very secure building and the bunk quarters are secure as well. The staff is extremely kind, helpful and friendly with excellent customer service! (A+ for sure! I teach in a high school & this was very appreciated!😃) They have a lot of information available on things to do in the area and if you can’t find it, just ask.
My only regret - I didn’t notice the hats for purchase earlier! I saw them on my last night as I headed out for a wedding dinner & thought I’d return early enough to purchase. My loss!
***You honestly can’t go wrong choosing to stay at The Crash Pad!
- Peter (10/5): First time in a hostel, probably not the last. - Fantastic location, little funky figuring out the doors and parking and foyer and etc, but a good experience overall. The showers ran out of hot water and maybe it was just cooties, but they seemed dirty. Nothing serious. As I said, overall, it was a good experience.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Super cute hostel! We loved our stay here! The located was great, close to many dinings and shops. The staff was helpful and welcoming. Our room was very clean, the beddings are comfy. Only thing worth to mention is that the room was not very sound proof, we can hear our next door neighbor talking and walking. Other than that, it was great!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Was convenient to everything.
- Howard (10/5): Best Hostel Stay - Friendly staff and very clean and quiet.
Better than most hotels!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Crash Pad is in a fabulous location — several great restaurants within walking distance. For lower budget travel, the Crash Pad is a great option.
- Bonnie (10/5): Overnight in Chattanooga - I stay here often whether I'm just passing through or spending a few days. The beds are very comfortable and private for a hostel. Free storage and locks. Very secure. Walking distance to food, drinks, and things to do. Free parking. There are larger private rooms available for couples or families. The onsite, outside grilling area and fire pit is amazing.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel is really a hostel, with hallway baths and everything. However it is advertised as such so that should not be a surprise. It was very quiet and very clean. The mattresses were comfortable. But if you need amenities this is not the place to go. My only real complaint was there was no staff on site in the morning when we were leaving to assist if we needed anything. We wanted to purchase a couple of things and couldn’t. And having access to some coffee would have been a plus.
- Kimberly (10/5): Location - Location is awesome! We walked everywhere and enjoyed the city!
- Kyle (10/5): Great - Cool place to stay in a great location in Chattanooga. Free parking in the small gravel lot behind the Flying Squirrel restaurant. Cool outdoor space too.
Took one hot shower and one cold one. Second one started out hot and just gave up on me halfway through. Not sure what that was about, as they have a tankless water heater, but no big deal.
I’ll stay there again for sure.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable and convenient.
- Jentry (10/5): Fun stay! - Great place to stay! It’s very clean and in a great location.
- Gary (10/5): Spectacular experience! - The Crash Pad was a wonderful surprise. We booked it after reading the reviews and seeing it was a hostel!
We have never stayed at a hostel and felt like trying something new, an adventure.
This place was so hospitable in every way. We stayed in the Super Queen room which is a private room. We loved it. The room was spectacularly clean! We had a loft and and a queen bed, plus a sink.
We loved the gas lit fireplace outside. The Flying Squirrel gives guest a %20 discount, too (make a reservation for NO wait and delicious food)!
We will stay here again. Great, walkable location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Not used to sharing living space no privacy, showers even tolietries could not get used tp that
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Peaceful stay in a wonderful neighborhood. Stayed in a private room and felt at home.
- Beth (8/5): Comfy Chattanooga digs - I was in Chattanooga with a trail running camp and it was an awesome place to Crash. Sat by the fire a couple of nights. Some great eateries close by. I enjoyed my first ever hostel stay.
- Kathleen (10/5): Great place for a family! - We are a family of 7 with two pets and relocating from Florida to Colorado. This was a great place to stay and the Hemingway room had space for us all. I wish we’d had time and weather that allowed us to enjoy the outdoor space because that was bonus beautiful. The only hiccup was parking since we’re driving a suburban and hauling a car trailer. We didn’t realize how small the parking area was until we were in it. We managed to get turned around and out (which would NOT have happened if there were more guests) and went over to the public lot on the other side of the building. We checked again before having to add money and found that the parallel spaces that non-guests had parked in for the neighboring bar had vacated so we were able to move the whole thing back. We were then able to carefully back the whole rig out onto the street in the morning. This was necessary bc another car parked in the center of the back area making a turnaround impossible. If you’re driving a normal vehicle, the parking should be fine.
- Lacey (10/5): - This was a wonderfully cute place! Loved how clean and modern it felt, and even though things were out of the norm due to Covid, the experience was great. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the location can’t be beat- walking distance too lots of restaurants, etc. (and some of those were still open despite Covid). Love the key fab access on doors and the fact they provide you a lock and key area to keep your stuff! Highly recommend!!
- Christy (10/5): - The property is in the heart of restaurants and downtown life.
The hostel has thought of everything for convenience and comfort!
- wilda (8/5): Concert trip - IT was a pleasant stay after going to a wonderful concert. Thank you for a wonderful stay
- Chad (10/5): - My 2nd time staying at the crash pad great both times.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is a full service place , in a great area, with friendly and helpful staff. I will go back again for sure.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the location and the Hemingway Suite was perfect for our overnight girl trip.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This place was...... interesting. When they say it is a hostel; they are not exaggerating. As far as hostels go, I suppose it is wonderful. Everyone was nice and the room was clean. Be very clear on the fact that this is NOT a hotel but a hostel. Google the word and understand the difference. It will make for a nice story for us though.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location. Inexpensive compared to hotels in the area. The staff is top-notch. Breakfast selection is somewhat limited, but it is high quality (local bakery breads from a local bakery, along with spreads like peanut butter, jelly, Nutella. Also farm fresh eggs that you can prepare yourself. Coffee and teas too.)
Because this is a hostel, people sometimes make noise as they come in and out of the sleeping areas at nighttime. So if you aren't a very sound sleeper, you'll want to get a private room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We've wanted to stay at the Crash Pad every time we've been through Chattanooga previously, and our visit certainly did not disappoint! We're already in agreement:we'll be staying at the Crash Pad as much as we can in the future!
- Thomas (10/5): Nice - I need ed slippers that I didn't have. :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff were very friendly and helpful, facility is clean and modern, lots of discounts at area restaurants. Downsides were the community bathroom and kitchen (thought our private room had a bathroom but it didn't; could be Expedia's fault for the description not sure) as well as a small parking lot. I think there might be 1 room that is actually private (Hemingway Suite maybe) otherwise this is not a great option for couples or families. Singles or groups of friends would find it useful as the location is awesome for walking distance to area hotspots and entertainment.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was outstanding in their service. The rooms were very comfortable
- Bonnie (10/5): Crash Pad layover - Her clean, comfy, and surprisingly private for a hostel environment. The bunks are completely enclosed with a privacy curtain that covers the entire opening. A mounted fan in your bunk provides extra air if needed. A wooden shelf with several outlets is ready for all your electronics. Very safe feeling. Great staff. A fair amount of walkable activities nearby.
- Donald (10/5): - I was really surprised at how quiet it was. I had one of the private rooms on a Friday night and a lot was going on outside but very quiet inside.
