Guest Reviews
- Janice (10/5): The perfect place for a Cotswolds break - Excellent choice for a stay in Burford, funky room in a characterful building with lovely amenities, a very comfortable bed and a great location with free parking across the street. Very nice breakfast and superb tapas restaurant on site. The staff were really exceptional, enabling us to store our bikes securely, providing breakfast slightly earlier than usual and ensuring that our every need was met. Very highly recommended.
- Hannah (10/5): - Lovely service and beautifully refurbished rooms
- Rebecca (10/5): Stylishly Restored Hotel with Great Hospitality - Such an amazing old building which has been lovingly and tastefully restored but maintains its quirkiness,Bed’s were super comfy as was the pillow’s which is a plus for me as I have trouble with my back and shoulders, staff are so friendly and very attentive,Breakfast was really good with a varied selection,I had their homemade Granola which I would highly recommend, would definitely return N/A
- Alison (8/5): Fabulous - Location, staff, lovely room Need different choice of quilt - it was way too heavy
And pillows … definitely improvable, I’ve had better in a guest house
- louise (10/5): - So friendly the staff were truly amazing. The pantry was great very nice

- stephen (10/5): - Amazing property
Great staff
- George (8/5): - Room size was very good Proximity to the kitchen vent, so had noise coming into the room
- Anita (8/5): Lovely characterful hotel. Wonderfully decorated rooms and bathroom. Very comfortable bed, lovely staff and excellent br - Beautiful building. Uniquely decorated rooms. Clean and centrally located. Nothing.
- Neil (9/5): - The location of The Highway is fantastic, and the building itself is exactly what you want for a cute stay in the Cotswolds. It's got character by the bucket load and it's been decorated to a fantastic standard.
The welcome was fantastic, they left some chocolates and a happy birthday note on our bed for my wife, and even got us our first drink in the bar. To be honest all of the staff we encountered were fantastic and nothing was to much trouble.
We stayed in the room "Boy" and have zero complaints on the size and layout. It was exactly as the pictures and fitted with all the expected amenities. You really get a feel for the age of the building, the way no door or floor is level and everywhere has little quirks.
We didn't eat in the Spanish style restaurant for dinner as we had made other plans but it did look really nice from what we saw.
Breakfast was amazing, really well cooked and again nothing was too much trouble.
All in all we loved our two night stay here and would go back again in a heartbeat. The only thing that didn't work as it should was the TV in the room. It's a fire TV so you have to log in to your Amazon/Netflix accounts, sounds simple enough but it just displayed faults whenever i tried and then the remote decided it wouldn't pair with the TV on the 2nd day. Not really an issue as we had better things to do than sit and watch TV. ( Staff did sort the remote immediately)
One other thing, the room could really do with a stronger light for getting ready in the morning. The lighting is great on the whole for the ambience but practically it's like getting ready in the dark (apparently)
- Sarah (10/5): Attentive, kind staff, relaxing, calm rooms and amazing food. - Lovely old building with slightly modernised interior with taste. Felt so cozy and comfortable with a fully relaxing atmosphere. Decor was calming and staff are beyond helpful and friendly, most welcoming! Really impressed. Free parking on street opposite but not many spaces. Breakfast was included and some of the most flavourful food I’ve had. Definitely worth the price considering how attentive and kind staff are and how beautiful and relaxing the rooms are. Very low doorframes, can’t be helped as old building and they look nice and helps the buildings character but might not be good for tall people.
- Kirsty Moon (10/5): Stunning!! Thoroughly recommend. - Beautiful hotel and super friendly staff. The restaurant at the hotel (Toro) was stunning, would highly recommend, amazing Tapas! Only thing was the lighting in the room. We love a mellow lighting via side lights but just felt if wanted the option for brightness getting ready in the evening, the big light could have been much brighter.

- Lynne (10/5): Easy check in. Easy to park in Burford too. Great choice of dining options. Beautiful breakfast. - Loved the interior design….. very Abigail Ahern. Spacious bedroom and en suite.
- John (10/5): Absolutely brilliant loved it and will be back for sure - Everything about this hotel was perfect, the hotel was lovely and in an excellent location the staff were fantastic and couldn’t enough for you and a special thanks too Lindsey, the room was a good size and bed was very comfortable indeed and spotless. We ate at the hotel a lot as food was outstanding especially the Sunday lunch which was the best I’ve ever had, will definitely be coming back here in the future beautiful place Loved everything about the property
- Rosie (10/5): A stunning, peaceful, perfectly located hotel for a very special stay. Would recommend to anyone looking to treat themse - Absolutely gorgeous hotel and room. Amenities carefully considered, the service was outstanding (we were getting married and the staff went above and beyond at every opportunity to help us!). Beautifully and thoughtfully decorated and we absolutely loved the little pantry upstairs with homemade treats. Also a rare treat to have such a lovely pod coffee, and fresh milk! A wonderful touch. Just the perfect stay. Nothing!
- Giulia (9/5): - L’arredamento e la struttura storica Stanza piccola e bassa
- Ayelet (9/5): Second time staying here, rooms are great, staff are friendly and the breakfast is good. Great price point, and dogs wel - Everything! Location, rooms, bar/restaurants Nothing
- Isobel (10/5): Beautiful hotel with the loveliest staff, highly reccomend! - Rooms were beautiful and very spacious. The staff were amazing, so friendly and went above and beyond. Food in the restaurant was phenomenal. Will 100% be returning. Nothing
- Matusiewicz (10/5): Outstanding place - Outstanding place to stay, very cosy, very original, food absolutely delicious, staff extremely friendly.
Fantastic place to stay. There is absolutely anything we didn't like it in our short stay. Next time, definitely book for a longer break
- Gareth (10/5): Fantastic short break location - Fantastic location, wonderful decor and extremely welcoming staff. Nothing - it was lovely.
- Beth (10/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Beautiful Burford weekend - Beautiful stylish interiors and a perfect location. The staff were all warm, friendly, and helpful. Delicious breakfast and pantry snacks, and nice smart telly with Netflix. Our room experienced noise from the kitchen extractor fan that disturbed my husband’s sleep.
The property is high tech but oddly so, our digital radiator was broken, and a noisy fan heater had been placed instead.

- Scott (9/5): Would stay again but not during a bank holiday, traffic was extremely congested locally. - 1800s architecture with modern furnishings. Room didn’t have climate control, head height in the shower was restricted by the rainfall shower head, tables at breakfast close together, window without opener.
- Shayne (8/5): -
- Amy (10/5): -

- connie (7/5): We had a lovely time and breakfast was lovely too - Location was good, breakfast was lovely. Lake of parking and darkness of the room

- Marwa (9/5): Super nice place! - Rooms are nicely decorated and have lots of character, love the original features and beams. Staff are amazing and super friendly and the breakfast is great. The room was quite dim, would probably benefit from more lighting
- Mia (10/5): -
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Jack (7/5): Stylish and quirky place to stay, good restaurant and bar - Good location, interesting old building. Bedroom was right above the street and next to the road so was very noisy in the mornings.

- Leanne (9/5): Beautiful, stylish, great location, amazing breakfast - Beautiful building, stylish and comfortable rooms. Staff were lovely and breakfast is amazing
- Marky Mark (10/5): Great stay, good location - Booked this hotel early and got a great deal. I have stayed here before but this was the first time since it had been refurbished. The hotel is in a great location on the high street, next to all the shops, restaurants and pubs. We are at their restaurant one evening, it is called Torro and it serves magnificent tapas. The room was clean with a rainfall shower, nice toiletries and was very quiet. The room was a little dark during the day as it only had two small windows that was the only minus point. The staff were lovely, breakfast excellent and a cosy little bar downstairs for a drink/nightcap. Would definitely stay here again.
- George (10/5): Must stay if in Burford - Rooms where great and on site restaurant Toro is a must try. Staff are amazing!
- Hannah (9/5): Amazing - Dinner was superb as was breakfast
- Charlotte (8/5): Comfortable in a lovely building in a lovely town. Staff were great, very friendly and helpful. - I was disappointed with my breakfast choice of eggs Benedict. It arrived cold and I found the eggs under done, uncooked whites, and the muffin was not toasted, more bread than toast. The ham was not very tasty. Not much seasoning or flavour as a whole and cold. I ordered toast and marmalade after which was good! Breakfast
- Rebecca (9/5): -
- Melanie (10/5): Amazing clean friendly hotel , made us and the dog very welcome - The staff where amazing , very helpful and went out of their way for us and our dog The lighting in bedrooms is a bit dark, but the staff sorted me a lamp very quickly and they have told us new lamps are on the way
- Ian (8/5): Great hotel with lovely staff. - Because dining room was open to the general public the breakfast menu was itemised and priced accordingly. As breakfast was included for residents it was not clear whether you could have more than one item from the menu; cooked breakfast and then muesli for instance. Can’t think of anything.
- Beth (10/5): - The hotel was absolutely beautiful and the staff couldn't do enough for you! The room was lovely and the added extras like the pantry were amazing. It being dog friendly was also a massive plus. The only tiny issue was the room was very hot and the windows couldnt be opened! There was a fan in the room but it still was quite warm
- Ray (9/5): Great stay in village pub - Was clean , tidy , great location in middle of village , tasty breakfast
Very quirky building and very well maintained
Wi fi seemed to be quick
Bed comfy Didn’t realise no tv in room
No hand basin in toilet room ( due to limited space ) but only next door in the shower room
Was very warm (2nd floor) although 2 fans provided to move air in room ,
couldn’t stand underneath shower head due to nature of building with low ceilings , but I am 6ft 3 so most people should be ok
Lots of stairs which could be if limited mobility
Although none of these points would put me off from visiting again
- Jonathan (10/5): -
- Chris (10/5): A great hotel! - Perfect location! Friendly and accommodating staff, happy for me to stay a bit longer for my wedding preparations!
- Latisha (10/5): Amazing in every aspect! 😍 - Everything! The location is perfect and the building itself externally and internally was breathtaking, it was like a tardis inside.
The staff were so welcoming and more than willing to support. The room exceeded my expectations and they have a cute little snook which holds drinks and snacks.
Then the breakfast that was included in my stay, well, it was exquisite, there was a choice and I went for the full cooked breakfast; it comes with a hot pot of whatever you want and refillable cool drinks were available.
Also, Jeremy Clarkson’s pub, The Farmer’s Dog was a 5 minute drive away so I popped in there on my way home! That I couldn’t stay longer than the one night as it was for a business trip!
- Nicola (10/5): Hotel made the night away perfect x - The hotel room staff and food were all outstanding and would stay again
- Judy (7/5): - The breakfast was lovely and location good No standard BBC 1 or 2 ITV channel 4
Only Catch up or On demand
- Caspar (9/5): -
- Thomas (7/5): A mixed review - The staff were great and very helpful, the tapas meal was excellent. The hotel accommodation was style over substance. The bedroom, best room was comfortable with a very comfortable bed and quality bedding. A good location in Burford in a character building. The ill fitting bathroom door did not shut. The overhead facility in the walk in shower did not work so we used the inadequate hand spray. There were No usable surfaces for makeup, hair arranging and drying, for charging phones etc. in the huge bedroom or the bathroom. The lighting was extremely dark. No toiletry accessories-shower cap/tissues. There was nowhere well lite mirror for makeup up and hair in the bedroom.
- Alanah (10/5): Definitely would stay again and recommend to friends and family. - We sat in the courtyard to enjoy our lovely breakfast, very tasty and filling! Considering the hotel is fairly small, we could not hear any of the other guests, was very peaceful and relaxing. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. There is no parking at the property so have to rely on street parking. We were extremely lucky and managed to find a spot as we pulled up to the hotel but if we were any later, we would've struggled.
- clare (10/5): - Lovely historic hotel. Stayed in 'Wish', which was nice and warm, clean and comfortable. Beware of the low ceilings and narrow stairway, but great to stay somewhere a bit different! Nice little extra touches like delicious brownies in the pantry, and great central location overlooking the High Street. Dinner in the tapas restaurant was excellent, as was breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return Room was a little dark- although probably more noticeable due to the unfortunate dreary weather when we were staying.
- Nathan (10/5): -
- Laura (10/5): Incredible stay made by the outstanding staff ❤️ - Loved our stay at the Highway Inn, we were made to feel so welcome and looked after our whole stay. Location is excellent and the room was beautiful. We ate in the restaurant, the food was stunning!
The biggest shout out is to all the staff who were outstanding. They worked so hard and the customer care was excellent. Everyone who worked there made the trip.
The breakfast options were great and the everyone was so tasty. You could tell they use the best produce! The added extras in the pantry that were available were also a lovely touch! Felt so sad to leave was such a good trip ❤️ Absolutely nothing!
- Liz (9/5): - Cosy and friendly Room very dark and quite noisy could hear music in the restaurant in our rooms
- Georgie (9/5): A beautiful stay - lovely people, gorgeous room and the food was exceptional. Thank you -
- Finlay (10/5): Exceeds expectations, cosy, upmarket Cotswolds Stay. - The property was amazing. We had the room called “Wish” and it was exactly how we had hoped. The room was spotless and very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and a wide range of options available. Although no allocated parking, there was no struggle finding somewhere to park across our 2 night stay. The bar area is cozy and the drinks were great. 10/10. Nothing.
- Steve (7/5): -
- Julia (9/5): - Lovely decor, great bar staff, fantastic breakfast and great location Room was very dark
- Harvey (10/5): -
- Constantinos (7/5): Excellent staff, disappointing room. - Staff were amazing! Very polite and extremely helpful. Breakfast was excellent! Very stylish renovation. Excellent location. We stayed at SILVER room. We chose it as it was a big room. A very small central heater on the wall, was not enough. An air heater was added but still not enough, as the windows do not seal well. Also the lighting was so low it made it very difficult to enjoy the room. Staff brought us an extra lamp shade but still we needed the mobile torch to make coffee or find our clothes. Bathroom window needs a thicker curtain roller. Also some long life milk would be more convenient in the room, rather than needing to visit the pantry to get fresh milk. Small things that make a room, home away from home.
- Hesa (7/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): Cosy, charming and the perfect Cotswolds stay! - The Highway was a beautiful hotel. It had a lovely ambience and was cosy and atmospheric. The breakfast was lovely and service excellent. The little touches in the hotel took it to next level, for example the pantry on the 1st floor with teas, coffees and baked goods was a nice touch. Although the hotel was beautiful and cosy in most ways they only downfall was that the rooms where a little dark for trying to get ready. I would recommend putting makeup mirrors / lighted mirrors in the rooms to negate this.
- Laura (10/5): -
- Hannah (9/5): - Beautiful hotel, incredibly friendly and attentive staff. Very clean, lovely decor, great food etc etc Other than the fact it was a little dark in our room with all lights on, absolutely nothing - everything else was perfect!
- Kasia (10/5): Best dog friendly stay in Cotswolds - We loved everything about it - the location, the staff, the food and also how doggie friendly it was! They went extra mile to care for us, checked us in earlier and provided extra heaters for the room as it was winter cold! Thank you again for a wonderful stay - we will be back 🫶🏼 N/a
- Lou (6/5): Well located but over priced - The Highway is well located on the High Street and rooms are well decorated with soft tasteful furnishings. Breakfast was a delicious a la carte with great coffee. Excellent service at breakfast During our stay we had issues with the hot water resulting in not being able to shower during our stay, which was not ideal and the issue was not adequately addressed when raised with staff. Room was poorly lit making it feel very dark. As a result I felt that the room was over priced given our experience
- Juan (7/5): Good but not worth the money - Location Poorly staffed and over priced , beds was sloped and uncomfortable
- Sophie (10/5): -
- Caterina (10/5): - Room was really spacious, cozy and bed was super comfortable. Breakfast was amazing and everyone was lovey.
- George (10/5): Perfect Christmas Day - The Christmas Day lunch was absolutely delicious! The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful, which made the place have a lovely atmosphere. The rooms were really nice and comfortable. It was perfect.
