Guest Reviews
- Andrew (8/5): - A very nice place for Panamanian standards. It’s obvious they are in the process of fixing things up but some things still need a little work. The room and beds were very comfortable. The complimentary breakfast and welcome beverage were outstanding. There is a small lagun to swim and snorkel in. Saw lots of small fish but the waves and break made it impossible to go very far. The facility is very isolated from the rest of the island which can be nice but also very isolated. The parking lot has a worn out sign and was difficult to find but if you ask the locals they’re happy to help. It’s not fenced in and was a major construction zone so again not super obvious. Overall though a very enjoyable and relaxing place to stay.
- James (4/5): 2 star resort at best. Run down, needs fixing - The resort has lots of potential, but we were extremely disappointed overall. Starting with telling me we did not have a reservation (despite having booked and paid in full), to find a very run down resort. The photos are outdated and in some cases inaccurate and misleading. The facilities are not as shown in the photos are are limited. The rooms are extremely basic but comfortable enough. The bathroom shower area was dirty and the ceiling throughout the apartment is covered in rust, as is most of the resort. Electrics outside the room appear dangerous and certainly does not meet any codes (if they even exist in Panama) Frequent power outages (but did not last long) plus no water one night. Food was ok, and service typical Panamanian (ie poor) Often no towels available, no coffee and/or milk and/or sugar at every breakfast. The pool requires attention.
There is access to the other side of the island if you want a strenuous 45 minute hike over the hilltop, so otherwise the resort is isolated.
The resort seems popular with Panamanians who accept Panamanian standards and level of service (no offence intended), but if you are a foreigner I think you will be very disappointed.
- Marlen (10/5): - Loved the place, service, the peace
Dommage.
- David (4/5): - Coconut Grove Lodge is located in a spectacular setting, but the facility itself didn't come close to matching the beautiful site. Our room had dirt, mold, rust, cracks, and more. The facility was strewn with random building parts and trash. The staff often seemed quite uninterested that we were there. Although we booked for two nights, we asked for a refund of the second night, as we couldn't bring ourselves to stay longer. This place could be great, but it needs a lot of clean-up, upgrade, and staff training.
- Luis (6/5): - there were no handrails on some stairways which is a bit unsafe. The Attention is not bad, but it could be better
- Jonathan (6/5): - It is hard not to love your time at Coconut Grove because of where it is. I would go back, but be prepared to like it despite poor conditions, rude staff, and general disfunction.
- Joshua (10/5): Awesome stay. - Such a peaceful, relaxing place to be. It was like leaving the rest of the world behind. Awesome staff. Just an overall awesome experience for our whole famly.
- Ziad (8/5): - Friendly staff and a great service
- David (8/5): - To start, be advised that the drive from Panama City can be very long 5.5 hours for me, You may pass several police check points that backs up traffic for kilometres..I didn't arrive at the hotel until almost seven at night and I tried several times to call the resort to make sure they did not cancel my reservation and for parking and boat information to take me to the island.. They never answered the phone and as such I parked at the wrong location and was dropped off at the wrong location on the island.
So finally I was able to hire a small boat at triple the normal rate to get me to the hotel. Once I arrived, the staff were friendly and welcoming, the rooms were large but basic.
The views were beautiful from the restaurant area.. Nice enough place but go for more then one night.
- Franklin (8/5): - Todo estaba perfecto.
- Lourdes (8/5): Great service run down hotel - The personnel is excellent Yuri is great and helpful, unfortunately the hotel is run down, beautiful view
- Nadine (8/5): An Island getaway : sunsets and smiles - Coconut Grove Lodge is an amazing location. Right on the Caribbean, the sounds of the ocean will lull you to sleep whether you are in your room or relaxing on the hammock on your balcony. Servers were very friendly and helpful.
The cost of the room seems a bit high, and the rooms could use a bit up refresh, but I can understand paying for the view and the location. And seriously, one doesn't spend a lot of time in their room anyway!
If you want an island getaway, this is the place to stay.
- Sergio R (10/5): Perfect weekend getaway - It was a great weekend getaway. The restaurant service was amazing and the food was a good surprise. Staff were very attentions and courteous.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Access to the hotel is horrible. There isn’t any boat deack available to land, so the boat drops wherever they can and then you need to walk 300 meters to reach the deck of the hotel. This short walk is quite painful as ut is between the non-existant shore and the manglars, steppi g on stones and fighting agains the tie/waves. The hotel instead of addressing that (as they used to have a deck...that is what they said), they couldn’t care less and they make you pay the boat trip eitherway and don’t offer additional hand when needed. Lack of consumer focus
Be aware that there is no beach to rest, pr lie on the towel...so you mainly use their swimming pool, activities are not offered, at least when asking what to do, no answer was given.
On the positive aide, rooms are big, with AC, cable TV and clean. Food is decent
- Charlotte (8/5): Coconut Grove Lodge - The Lodge and staff were lovely and they work hard. However, a few things could be improved. The cleanliness of bathroom before we checked in and its general maintenance could use a refresher. We had no hot water, but they came and fixed it immediately. The choice on the menu is limited and they need to introduce both vege and vegan options. It's a lovely place and water and sea beautiful, a real aquarium. I would also expect them to give up plastic cups and straws as well as polystyrene NOW..and not fish the reef and nursery in order to help protect it. We had a good time and overall it was lovely. Much nicer and quiter than the main drag I feel..
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property is unique and absolutely beautiful. Breathtaking views and crystal clear water. Opportunities to get around the area’s islands to play and explore. Isla Mamay is close. The tunnel of love is close and a must see. The place makes you feel secluded in a private getaway. Hammocks and plenty of space for all guests.
Didn’t like water pressure, broken items and not fixed. Not enough outlets, the place closed early (9pm), but didn’t provide ice or a fridge for cold items. The hotel had the same items to eat everyday and they were served for lunch and dinner. Service was slow at best by servers. Sat waiting for our order to be taken while other people sat after us and was served. Pool table broken. Pictures showed some sort of entertainment like a native dance but there wasn't. Beach is small. Trash visible upon arrival.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All amenities, services and the place are excellent, the hotel is the better option to relaxing near the city. The food are tasty, it is a familiar enviroment, not to party.
- Francis (10/5): Paradise - Only one place you should consider to stay on island grande
- Susanne (6/5): - Luis had to walk very carefully on all the slick tile floors to avoid falling. He worked his ass off all evening while the desk clerk did nothing. Not sure why both were not waiting tables. You need rubber mats on those floors to prevent dangerous falls by staff and customers. Many lounge beds on grass by cabins 7-10 are cracked and pinch your customers rear end. Our ac unit did not work properly. The rooms need remodeled.
Due to rough water, I will stay on the other side of island next time
Show. Amamos tudo.
- Mike (10/5): - One of the most amazing places I have ever visited. The staff was more than accommodating. The location is perfect. I will come back again and again.
- Badeita (8/5): Beautiful hotel, nice infraestructure - Pool: a luxury on the island.
Staff go beyond expectations to please you
Due to the geography & location beach is very small, and rocky.
Sightseeing is fabulous from the cabins
Hotel Infraestructure is beautiful &comfortable
