Guest Reviews
- Joshua Cobb (10/5): - It was an amazing weekend, the location and the staff was amazing. Despite the impact from the rains and flooding, they went the extra mile to make sure we're happy and the cottage was sorted. Will definitely return for a longer stay. Thanks for everything Shane. Cheers.

- Rita (9/5): Beautiful, quiet stay in nature. Great escape! - Beautiful, peaceful stay out in nature. With the mountains surrounding you on all sides, it really is a great escape into the peace and quiet. We enjoyed the braai on the stoep, the beds were very comfortable, and we felt very safe in the rustic farmstead. We had everything we needed. Beautiful views all around. Close enough to explore Tulbagh and surrounds, but far away enough for it to be quiet. Having some more comfortable chairs outside would have been nice. So if possible, I would suggest bringing your favourite camping chair along.
- Bianca (10/5): just an epic venue run by hood management well trained staff and well maintained facilities. - exceptional staff and venue amazing stay wifi is very poor
- Claire (10/5): - The surroundings were beautiful and it was extremely peaceful. The host was friendly and helpful. The cottage had everything we needed. There is a nice braai area with an outside bench. The beds were comfortable.

- Veronique (9/5): -
- Van (9/5): - The accommodation was very clean and neat and well equipped with the kitchen necessities. The road to the accommodation is somewhat challenging.
- Candice (9/5): It was very cosy for a winters stay. The fireplace warmed the house up nicely - The host was super friendly and helpful and always keeping me on top of things. He was never to far away to contact. I loved the location and seclusion. Nothing that I can think of. Perhaps maybe just to mention that there is no TV, or maybe I did not read properly
- Mike (7/5): It was good and relaxing. - The location was tranquil and peaceful.
There were lots of bird life and we even spotted a duiker on the property. The property was a little small for 3 adults sharing 1 bathroom.
- Stefanus (4/5): Worst ever stay in all the years making use of guest houses. - The quietness of the environment. Birds sleeping on the roof and making a noise throughout the night. Couldn't sleep at all
The drain was blocked and the water couldn't flow out of the shower. You were standing in dirty water while you shower.
- Lesley-Ann (8/5): Loved the tranquility and the views. A perfect place to just disconnect from all the daily hustle and bustle. - The tranquility of the location. It was so peaceful your ears were hurting from the silence 😁 There is a dam but no other source of water to cool off in
- Heath (9/5): Very enjoyable! - Beautiful surroundings and the cottages have all you need.
- Peter (10/5): Just a nice place to stay where your pets are welcome. - Host is great and always make you feel welcome. Nice location and truly a great place to get away from the hustle and bussle of the city.

- Tanya (10/5): - Very peaceful if you need a break away from the city. Close enough to explore the town and all the lovely wine farms.
Shane was very welcoming and made us feel super comfortable. Nothing was too much, he was always available for anything we needed or to provide info on things happening in and around Tulbagh The fact that I didn't book for longer 😁
- Ann (3/5): Beautiful place but way too many bush ticks - The farm has beautiful mountains surrounding them. The farm is infested with bush ticks. We got covered in ticks when just walking around the cottage. We had to constantly check ourselves to remove the ticks from ourselves.
We booked for 2 nights but left after the 1st night.
- Hans-Jörg (8/5): -
- Mandy (10/5): Beautiful location and a friendly host. - My daughter and her friends had a wonderful weekend away at Fraaigelegen Farm. Shane was an incredible host and I was very impressed with his level of communication with me, as the mom. A prior experience with another place had been the polar opposite, so it was refreshing to have information and communication provided from the start of our booking. I would definitely recommend this establishment. Nothing - it was great.
- Marie (10/5): - The host was exceptionally friendly and very accomodating. Very helpfull!!!
- Beekay (10/5): Best experience ever. - The place is very peaceful, neat and breath-taking. None
- Tracey-lee (10/5): View - We loved our stay, and the farm was peaceful with spectacular views. The staff were very kind and helpful. Would definitely be visiting again
- Mandisa (9/5): We had a beautiful stay on my sisters birthday weekend away with my family and friends. The cottages are absolutely love - The location was perfect, beautiful scenic views all around and a homey cottages, very spacious and well equipped. We did have an issue with the plumbing but our host quickly sorted it out.
- Baikie (10/5): -
- Remke (10/5): Beauty and solitude wrapped into one - Solitude and nature Nothing
- Benoit G (10/5): - Cadre exceptionnel pour cette maison au pied de la montagne avec une très belle vue sur la vallée. La ferme est très bien entretenue et il est agréable de se promener le soir sur la propriété après une journée de voiture.
- Craig (10/5): Affordable and scenic location for a restful getaway - Beautiful location near Tulbagh with stunning views all around.
Well priced for what it offers and yet still offers more than some similar farm accommodation.
The farm is well-maintained with nice gardens and offers some short, but beautiful walks
The spacious cottages have all you need and provide for a comfortable stay
The host was very receptive and friendly
Perfect place for a quiet and restful stay. the farm truly is a bliss to stay at. The shower pressure is low, and the cottages do have some plaster peeling on one of the walls
It was a wet weekend when we visited and the drainage in front of the cottages is poor, os there was a fair amount of mud around.
- Paul (10/5): -
- Ivan (9/5): -
- H Jacobs (8/5): - We enjoyed the simplicity and open spaces. Views were spectacular. The manager (Shane) was very helpful. Provided recommendations on places to visit in the area with kids and activities we could do. Great communication ahead of our stay to ensure everything was ready for our arrival. There were minor things which we addressed with the manager and he attended to it.
- Carol-ann (10/5): Absolutely amazing, could have done with a few more days there -
- Charlene (10/5): A true gem in Tulbagh. I will be back! - Everything! The lack of availability of their olive oil.
- Shannon (9/5): Amazing location, so peaceful and beautiful! - It was a lovely stay. The scenery is beautiful! It was peaceful and the perfect weekend breakaway.
We really enjoyed the fireplace! Shane is very helpful and friendly.
Can't wait to be back! Leaving .. :(
- Haike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mari-louise (8/5): What a gem. Great accommodation in a wonderful location. -
- Lisadaubs (8/5): Loved our stay dispite the reported difficulties we had. Will definitely return. - The location and scenery was more than perfect. The size of the cottage was great for 4 people. The views of the mountains from the veranda were fabulous. Super dooper peaceful farm. Loved that we could bring our 2 dogs along with us for our stay. All walkies were on leads to keep them safe. Manager was very attentive and helpful. Overall peacefulness of the farm was amazing. If we had not traveled in our 4x4, getting across their little stream in a normal car to get to the cottage may have posed a problem. Their dam is super clean and lovely to take a dip in which was a walkable distance from our Olive Cottage. Loved the cottage veranda that expanded the full length of the cottage. Overall I would highly recommend this farm. Noting that all items mentioned here had been reported to the manager at the time of our stay: The lounge furniture was very unsuitable and uncomfortable. Beds, time to upgrade to individual sprung mattresses. Bouncy beds are no fun when you need to get rest. The 2 plate table top cooking stove/oven setup was very annoyingly slow for cooking a basic bacon and eggs breakfast for 4. The microwave was so over used, old, and melted inside, it seemed like it would be a hazard to use. The toaster would only work if the lever was held down. The cottage had 4 items of each required kitchen utensil and crockery. No more. Very annoying. The ice tray was broken. Couple of the light bulbs were not working. The kitchen lighting was very poor and made working in the kitchen frustrating. In the bedroom with the double bed, there is a wonderful dressing table, but the wall plug is on the another wall away from the dressing table. So using the hairdryer was challenging without being able to see in to the mirror. Apparently before our arrival homemade products, such as bottles of jam and olive oils were placed in our cottage for us to purchase. However these products were not in the cottage, actually, when we arrived. We did not know to expect the products to be there so did not know to report that they were missing. This too was handled by the manager. I would highly recommend the manager or the owners to actually sleep and stay in their cottages and use everything as if they were a visitor. They would quickly experience the cottage environment short falls. Too often all getaway cottages are left to be serviced by staff who do not have a vested interest in the comforts of the guests. Although I have made quite a negative list here, these items are very easily sorted out, and should not throw a negative light upon this farm and their cottages. It really is a wonderful spot, and I would highly recommend going for a break there.
- Matthew (10/5): Tranquil - Stunning location, great host, excellent facilities. We had an amazing time. Just be forewarned that there is about a 3km sand road to the venue, so no getting in or out of it in a hurry.
- Johan (10/5): Amazing - The location and host is increadable! Nothing
- Truter (5/5): The host was very helpful and friendly, but the accommodation was not good value for money, old and - n/a The road leading to the farm was terrible.
The accommodation is run down, it needs a good spring-clean and a coat of paint.
- Stephen (10/5): Great little cottage on an outstanding farm - Fantastic location and accommodation with a great host. Provided for our every needs and even went beyond what we expected by suggesting places to go and even contacting the venue to let them know we were coming.
- Carol (9/5): Superb -
- Schutte (8/5): Very good - Lieflike omgewing.Ons huisie se uitsig op berge was beperk.Andersins piekfyn.

- Jeremy (8/5): Very good -
- Chairman (10/5): Clean crisp majigcal - The manager was so helpful and nice natured I loved it all
- Kimberley (10/5): Relaxing weekend just outside of Tulbagh - Just outside of Tulbagh, location was great. Clean and well equipped. Host was super friendly and helpful.
- Huntley (7/5): Pleasant - Reasonably priced Poor access road , needs grading badly. Challenging in Toyota Quest in the dark admfter a meal out
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb - The cottages are in a wonderful peaceful location, with views of the mountains, all around. We were fascinated by the variety of birds that would visit the olive tree which provided shade at the end of the patio and the blanket of stars was breath taking.
- Cornelia (9/5): Superb - Just sweet cottage off the grid . Lovely stay
- Carina (8/5): Very good -
- Loukia (10/5): Quaint house set on a wine and olive farm - Beautiful setting at the foot of the mountain

- Leena (10/5): Restful, beautiful place to stay , Shane the farm owner was super helpful , we will definitely be back - Such a relaxing place to stay , Olive cottage is really well kitted out , great being able to braai and swim in the dam.
- Jenny (10/5): Very special place. Worth it in terms of price and location - Beautiful farm, mountains and surrounds. Water scarce area and water did get low and switch off but it was manageable and host communicated well about it
- Tomé (10/5): Exceptional - We had a beautiful stay at the farm, the setting is tranquil and the views in all directions are jaw dropping. Shane and his family are welcoming and responsive hosts who took care of us for all of our needs, the cottage is cosy and well equipped.
Everything you need to braai (firewood is available for purchase at very reasonable rates) and cook is supplied (pro tip: bring some tupperware with you) and beds are very comfortable.
Braaing and heading up to the dam for a swim is a great way to spend the day and stargazing at night (citronella lanterns are provided to keep you safe while you do) is highly recommended if you're on the property.
Getting in and out for day trips (definitely check out the nearby Waterval Loop) is quick via the dirt road leading to the farm (if you're not used to this it will be a bit jarring at first but after doing it once you'll gain confidence to make it in and out with ease, we did it in Suzuki Swift).
Dogs are welcome, ours loved it here as much as we did. We'll be back!
- Marisca (10/5): Beautiful, comfortable: feels like home. - Beautiful view and beautiful farm! Lovely
cottage with most comfortable beds and linen. Feels like home. Very welcoming staff and host.
- Amy (9/5): We loved our stay. It was the perfect family holiday - so peaceful and relaxing. - Our favourite part was our swims in the beautiful dam!
- Alan (8/5): Very good -
- Riaan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aurora (8/5): Very good -
- Moffett (8/5): Very good -
- Cherith (10/5): Excellent Family breakaway - It was the best place tpo take a pet when you booked the two cottages together or the single cottage on the otherside. The two cottage setting was ideal for family time and also allowed our dog to play freely
- Swanepoel (10/5): Piece of heaven - Good facilities. The peaceful farm atmosphere allows you to unplug from the rat race. All over a good experience None
- Sam (9/5): Waking up to the cool mountain breeze, hearing the peacock and ducks. - Beautiful setting. Quiet, so removed from daily bustle.
- Johanita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hena (8/5): Very good - It was a lovely farm stay The bathrooms require some TLC
- Michelle (9/5): Tranquil retreat to restore the soul. - The amazing assistance Shane provided to our family reunion (group of 12).

- Anton (8/5): Excellent quite getaway - beautiful views and a great host in Shane -- thouroughly enjoyed -
- Margaret (8/5): Very good -
- Anona (9/5): The Perfect short break from Cape Town - Great place to take a short break from Cape Town and explore a little of this beautiful part of the Western Cape. Friendly, welcoming and attentive host. Accommodation is located on a very quiet and private part of the farm. Spacious rooms and living area in the Shiraz Chalet and a nice braai area where you can enjoy the mountain and vineyard views. Upon recommendation by the friendly host, we visited the nearby Murludi Hiking Trail and Dried Fruit Farm, and the Bosjes Farm (30km away), with its architecturally famed Chapel, beautiful garden and restaurant. You can stock up on some farm supplies notably the signature Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Adhara EVOO.
- Sandy (6/5): Pleasant - The cottage needs a total upgrade, especially the bathroom and the kitchen.
- Tanya (10/5): Definitely a must. Tulbach is a historical town with the most beautiful views - Beautiful and peaceful
- Tessa (10/5): Exceptional - Such a lovely setting and relaxed atmosphere. We had the place to ourselves and really gave us the chance to sit back and unwind. The dam is beautiful and great for a swim. Wine tasting in the area was delicious too.

- Marlene (9/5): Absolutely stunning!!! - Absolutely stunning! Nature and all the animals chatting.

- Shannon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (9/5): Superb - Great location. Short driving distance to nearby Tulbagh, Riebeek West and Riebeek Kasteel. Great indoor fireplace with outdoor braai facility and nice walking trail with lots of birdlife. Lovely olive oil and honey available for sale on the farm as well. We liked everything but just a tip: arrange your purchases of products well in advance as the farmer is very busy.
- Yonggang (8/5): Very good -
- Dawid (8/5): Very good - The tranquility and silence was welcome. Beautiful surroundings. Easy access to surrounding areas. Friendly host. It was such a relaxing time. Comfortable back-chairs or camping chairs will make for nice relaxation on the stoep. A bigger carpet in the common area will warm the place up nicely.
