Guest Reviews
- Angela (10/5): - Small grocery very close to the property. We grabbed sandwiches there for a quick snack just before they closed at 7pm.
- Christopher (10/5): - Had a great stay here. Nice room and quiet area.
- Anna (10/5): - EV charger on site. Great location in the middle of the Golden Circle. There was a restaurant right next to the guesthouse, and the main Hill Hotel across from the guesthouse has a nice restaurant.
- Melissa (10/5): - Close to the secret lagoon
- Ashley (10/5): - Beautiful stay and I definitely recommend staying here. It was not crowded or busy. Staff was helpful and accommodating. No issued checking in or out
- estelle (8/5): - perfect
- Verified traveler (10/5): Welcoming - Great place to stay - convenient, clean, welcoming
- Wojciech (6/5): - Ok place. Clean and in good repair. Nice view. Average food. The main picture in the hotel information is misleading in my opinion. The hot pool doesn't belong to the hotel and is just a separate business about 20min walk.
- Lesly (4/5): - Fraudulent alert! I’ve never left a review before. Essentially the listing is a marketing ploy and there was zero hospitality. Be warned - There is no pool at this hotel. In spite of the click bait fraud which has the first picture featured on this site for the property with a hot spring pool which does not exist at the hotel. This should not be allowed as it’s beyond misleading. There are however small hot tubs but these are for the exclusive use of the cabin guests not the hotel guests - which the receptionist quickly and harshly advised at checkin. The entire staff was rude to the point of being disrespectful during both check-in and at the restaurant. Pass on this one.
- Joanne (4/5): - There was no WiFi, no hot water, and no access to the pools as the description stated. They also provided incorrect information on check-in and gave us the wrong room key. We were only staying to sleep/leave in the AM and so would have rated higher if there was hot water for the shower as all we wanted was a shower and a place to sleep. My sister stayed in another room and had the same issues with lack of hot water.
- Willow (8/5): - Lovely, though if you need it bring a sleeping mask as there were no blackout curtains. Also check in is across the road at the Hill Hotel. This was not well indicated by the property. We learned from others then passed on the information to others who were wondering about baffled by the missing registration office. It’s a nice place and close to the secret lagoon.
- Hendricus (6/5): - The rooms are clean etc. However, nobody tells you that check in is at the property across the street "The Hill", also the window curtains are very thin, so with now a lot of day light, not possible to get it dark in the bight in your room; the Wifi was broken, and there was no compensation for that.
- Bryan (10/5): - Hotel was very nice. The signage for the hotel actually read "The Hill at Fleudir" but the accommodations were very good and the breakfast was 4.5 star.
- Janene (8/5): - The staff member did not inform us that it was underneath the building.
We spent ages and dragged bags looking for number 9
He told us to just walk up the path
- Caitilin (6/5): - I’m giving this place a bad review, but I expect it will get much better soon because I understand it’s under new ownership.
Check in was bad. GPS brought us to the back of a building in a neighborhood. No signage, no parking. I walked around the place to find no doors unlocked, just a sign fluttering in the wind that lunch was to be served across the street at a place called “the Hill”. I went across the road to The Hill in the hopes they could connect me to the proprietors at Guesthouse Fludir, and was greeted warmly and much to my surprise was checked into Guesthouse Fludir.
Turns out check in was supposed to be at The Hill - I learned later that the confirmation email did say as much, but I’m not sure I read it in full right after booking, and that was the last communication I got from the owners about our booking.
Once we navigated the clunky check-in, we settled into our family room which was small, way over-heated (only window is in the bathroom), and weirdly laid out (eg- light switch is all the way on the other side of the room from the entrance, toilet is pretty much in the shower).
However, the restaurant at The Hill and all our contact there was excellent. It is my understanding that the owners of The Hill recently purchased Guesthouse Fludir, so I expect things will get much better. If they bring the guesthouse up to the standards of The Hill you’ll be in a good place.
- Sergiy (4/5): Catastrophic - Firstly it was not clear explanation where is the reception. Looking for it when the temperature is -12 not the best experience. In the room sheets were dirty, next day we can open the door because of snow and then lock it. Finally we’ve got a new room that was good. From good side is the restaurant. Food and service were great.
- Amanda (4/5): - The check in area was not marked. It is across the street at another hotel. The heat was set very low as if they were not expecting guests and the room did not heat up until the next morning. We did not receive our Expedia perk. The hot water in the shower did not work. As a side note the area was well lit which made viewing the northern lights from the location impossible. Also this property recently was sold so there is no sign for the guesthouses.
- Jeremy (10/5): - Staff are friendly, plenty of parking, close to the Secret Lagoon.
- Tanya (10/5): - Nice stay. Had to use restaurant across street. No television
- Keith (6/5): - Good price, warm and quiet. However there were problems with hot water and damage in the room. Breakfast was expensive and not great quality.
- Stephen (6/5): - The rooms we clean and efficient but they include the bare minimum in the way of amenities. Instant coffee, a poor tea selection, no refrigerator, thin towels, etc.. For $250 I hoped for more. The good is that it was quiet and we could park the car right outside of the room for easy unloading.
- Craig (10/5): - Great view's from our room. Very peaceful and quiet, exactly what we hoped for.
- Emily (8/5): - Very nice staff
- Wendy (8/5): - Clean, privacy
- GLEN (10/5): - Great hotel. Amazing restaurant and breakfast. Staff was friendly. - I would recommend.
- Kellie (8/5): - A nice stay for a night. It was a little cold for us and we were unsure how to get the thermostat to work. Unsure if it was user error or if it wasn't working properly. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was great! The breakfast was just okay but it was included which is a great perk with how expensive food is in Iceland.
- Kevin (6/5): - No cup for cafe and water
- Thomas (10/5): - The check in area was difficult to find, otherwise a great stay for a good price. The breakfast was very good.
- Paul (10/5): - Quite
- Trisha (6/5): - Staff very unfriendly, check-in was not available at expected time. Limited restaurant/dining options
- Verified traveler (10/5): Spacious but exposed to weather - This is the "poor cousin" of The Hill Hotel, situated across the road. You have to check in at The Hill Hotel, and have breakfast there.
The "poor cousin" is a row of single storey rooms. The rooms are spacious and comfortable but do not have TV. You are exposed to the weather once you leave your room, so I do not recommend it for winter.
- Katherine (4/5): Didn’t have a room for us - When we came to check in they told us they didn’t have a spot for us and moved us to a different hotel that was 20 min away. We would have been totallly fine to be moved to a different hotel if needed, we just didn’t appreciate not being told about it until we arrived. Not impressed.
- James W (10/5): - The folks at Guesthouse Fludir also fun the hotel across the road. They have a really good restaurant, and they are very helpful. We had a booking mixup but they handled it all perfectly--no questions asked. Highly recommend them.
- Chin Hwa (10/5): - Clean, great views, the kitchenette was well stocked. Great for families.
- Danita (10/5): - We had a very pleasant stay
- Karla (10/5): - Good value, good location, comfortable
- Verified traveler (8/5): Tired hotel with great breakfast at the Hill Hotel - We chose the double/twin room with shared bathroom. The room was warm, but also worn. There’s also a water smell that permeated each bathroom and even the sink in the bedroom. An open window solves the problem, but I do think the hotel needs a facelift (similar to the recent reno at the Hill Hotel). I went during the transitional winter/spring season so the restaurant was closed. However breakfast was provided at the Hill Hotel and that was lovely…
- Gordon (6/5): - The bedrooms and common area can use some upgrades.
- Rouven (10/5): - Breakfast was great
- Stephanie (6/5): - It was a decent little cabin. Windows were well-insulated. Seemed a tad unfinished. Very IKEA. Shower didn’t get hot no matter what way I turned the dial.
At the main hotel the receptionist was incredibly helpful while I dealt with a medical situation that came up - called around to docs, etc.
- Marko (8/5): - Nice accommodation, clean, ideal for 1 or 2 nights, the only downside was the breakfast.
- Malinda (8/5): - Unique location on the water but close to everything. Saw the northern lights from our window so that was a plus. Room #2 did not lock. Key did not work and we have to strap the door shut at night so managememt may need to take a look at that
- Emma (6/5): - The room was excellent. Staff could be more welcoming and friendly and we were disappointed when the restaurant closed at very short notice so we were left with no option but to eat cold food from the local shop as there are few options in the town which would suit our budget and family tastes.
- Caroline (6/5): - The location and hotel were GREAT!! The room was GREAT. However, the staff were EXTREMELY unfriendly and unhelpful. I believe they were the owners of the property…and I encourage them to improve their people skills. It significantly detracted from what would otherwise have been a delightful stay.
- Tiffany (6/5): - The property and rooms were great and in a really good location. The property was owner managed and although I can appreciate the long hours they must work, we found them to be really rude and not welcoming nor helpful. Highly recommend The Secret Lagoon just around the corner from them.
- john (8/5): - A nice place to spend a couple of nights.
The staff are very nice.
- john (10/5): - Very nice staff.
The location to see Gullfoss and other areas is great.
- John (8/5): - An inexpensive place to stay, and while it was quite clean, overall, it was just average. Breakfast was cereal, bread, deli meats and cheese. We had difficulty with the locks on the doors.
- Diana (2/5): - The person at check in and breakfast could not have been more unfriendly if she tried. I did not feel like a paying customer. She made me feel as if I was an inconvenience to her day.
- jose (2/5): - The property manager is very very rude. She does not understand the basic concept of the client is always right. We had an issue that was not solved properly. They do not have enough pillows and denied the use of it same for towels. Breakfast was very basic and bad. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
- David (10/5): - Great place to stay in the Fludir area. Basic breakfast is included and there is a restaurant available for other meals. Beds were comfortable but note there isn’t a kitchen available to cook your own food as in other guesthouses we stayed in during our Iceland visit.
- David (10/5): - Great location to the South Coast including Vik and the Black Beach. Loved the room but my only suggestions for improvements would be to install a hand wand in the shower and be able to regulate the temperature better. Had the heat as low as possible and the windows open and was still too warm at night. In our two week stay all around the Ring road, this was the most expensive yet the only one without a shower wand. Great full kitchen and Nespresso machine!
- Þórunn Helga (10/5): Mæli með þessu - Notalegt gistihús sem bíður upp á gott rúm og einfaldan en mjög góðan morgunverð. Góð þjónusta í fallegt umhverfi 😊
- Eduardo (8/5): - Great stay. Our room was spacious, the staff friendly and helpful
- Karin (4/5): - The check in was to be done by the waitress in the restaurant. She was completely busy, trying to fulfill both roles in an understaffed situation. Room was tiny and stuffy, looked out at gravel parking lot.
- Sheila (10/5): - Nice place. Very relaxing. No television, but gave me time to read.
- Eunmi (10/5): - Everything is good 👍
- VasanthiLakshmi (10/5): - Overall good. Breakfast was also really nice
- JONATHAN (10/5): - Great stay in a peaceful location, away from (other) tourists.
- David (10/5): - Thank you.
- Michael (10/5): - Nice room with river view. Small town. Gas and groceries a few feet away. Breakfast was good
- Craig (10/5): - excellent location on the golden circle, restaurant available on site for breakfast and dinner, good value for money, regular continental breakfast
couple of points for improvement - in the rooms, when one room uses the washbasin, there's a loud noise through the pipies in the adjoining rooms; cleaning can be improved to ensure at least the shared ones are cleant everyday
- Tracy (8/5): - Good location. Dinner was not available when we arrived however breakfast was included in the price. Rooms were clean.
- fei (8/5): - Good location. Close to restaurants. The room was clean
- Lisa (8/5): - Convenient, clean, spa close by. Beds not so comfortable, but overall a nice hotel.
- Jeff (10/5): - Great location for all the sights of the Golden Circle with the Secret Lagoon practically on the doorstep. The room was spotless and spacious with the added bonus of a balcony overlooking a flowing river and fantastic views to the hills beyond. Beds were super comfy, and facilities were good including breakfast. Can't recommend this place enough.
- Wilmonda (10/5): Close to the secret lagoon! - Comfortable stay, easy parking, good breakfast, close to the secret lagoon. We saw the northern light during our stay.
- Clare (10/5): Lovely place - Lovely place, within a 15 minute walk to The Secret Lagoon. The restaurant in the hotel opposite was lovely, the restaurant at the Fludir was closed so I can't comment o. That.
- john (2/5): - There is NO way you will see the northern lights from here!! The restaurant is closed and there is only one other in the area that basically only serves its guests. Room is clean, but don’t expect to drive up to the door like it says— expect to park in a lot and carry luggage up a hill. The checkin desk is not attended so ring, ring, ring!
- Matthew (8/5): Value for money - Rooms are expensive around the Golden Circle and this proves value for money. The room was the nicest of the 4 we stayed at in Iceland. There were 2 bathrooms to 5 rooms so always vacant. Tea & coffee making facilities. Breakfast was plentiful and lots of cold options. The only disappointment was the restaurant was closed for renovations (this seemed to be where the breakfast was though and we didn’t see renovation work). There are only 2 restaurants in Fludir and 1 is Ethiopian and the other doesn’t have a menu online. So instead we used Mika Restaurant.
- Bartholomeus (10/5): - Netjes en schoon
- Melissa (4/5): - While this stay is definitely cost effective and clean, we were disappointed with the service.
Their restaurant (which is already very limited in size) was closed for a private event upon our arrival after a really long and cold day of travel. Due to the time and day there was only one other restaurant open which, due to some other factors, couldn't serve us for nearly 2 hours.
There is also a lot of discrepancy between room sizes. My partner and I travelled with another couple and we both booked the same "double room". We both paid the same price and we got a very small room that was difficult to maneuver in while our travel partners had a room about double the size.
Overall, the transparency and customer service of this stay was not a high point. If you're solely looking for budget, this is the place to go.
- Eric (6/5): - Beware - The property is NOT located in the middle of woods to see the northern lights. It sits at the cross roads in town next to a mini mart. Next! Is the property advertises like it has a hot springs on the property. Secret Hot Springs is about 5 minutes away by car but NOT located on site - False Advertising plus the VIP is worthless everyone gets the same deal.
- Christine (10/5): - Convenient to find. Friendly staff. Parking without a problem. Restaurants available close by.
- James (8/5): - Unfortunately, the bed was too firm for our taste. We had low sleep quality.
- Ernesto (8/5): - very clean and modern with high ceilings. Convenient restaurant and good breakfast. Nice staff. Only drawback is bedroom door opens to gas station but didn't impact our stay
- Michael (8/5): - Price was good, Clean room and restaurant for dinner was great
- Solmaz (10/5): - Clean and cozy . View overlooking a river . Bar and restaurant onsite and a convenience store right next door .
- Irmeli (8/5): - Nice view
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay - Great location, minutes from the secret lagoon, it has a gas station onsite and a grocery store a few steps from the parking lot. The place is clean, cozy and the staff are very friendly. We were able to see the aurora borealis from our balcony. This place is totally recommended.
- Clive (10/5): Good value for the money - Check in was excellent from our host
Room was basic but for the cost was great value
Supermarket literally next door
Swimming baths across the road
Breakfast was good
- Florence (10/5): - Very clean, huge room.
- Michael (8/5): - Unit is new, clean and spacious. Breakfast was very good.
- Jaehyup (10/5): - Nice room with clean design. Heated bathroom floor and a view of small stream. Breakfast was good. Highly recommended.
- Jessica (10/5): - Clean guesthouse, friendly staff
- Chetan (10/5): - Super friendly owner and very accommodating. We messed up the dates we booked and she happily changed the booking for us even though we didn’t give 24 hours notice. The rooms are cozy and nicely decorated, and the main bathroom is large. There are 5 bedrooms that share the main bathroom and an extra toilet and shower but we were never in a position where someone else was using it when we wanted to. The breakfast was very good. I would definitely stay again.
- K (10/5): - Great location, comfortable rooms, super friendly service. Only downside was our neighbours running taps at 1.30am (for HOURS!) and the noise woke us up and made it impossible to sleep. Given they only had a sink to work with, the mind boggles... With more considerate neighbours it would have been a perfect stay.
- Michael (10/5): Very Good no frills hotel. - This is a good, clean, simple hotel. Great staff, comfortable beds. Restaurant is basic, but reasonably priced. Very near the Hidden Lagoon.
- Kathryn (10/5): - The staff was really friendly and helpful. The ethiopian restaurant that they recommended for dinner was really good. Even spoke with the chef! Clean rooms. Breakfast was filling and easy. Very happy we chose this.
Please check the locking mechanism on the door for #2. We could not get it to lock from the outside. Maybe it is just European and we are American and not used to it. But still felt safe sleeping.
- Ioannis (8/5): - Nice place with descent view.
- Mark (10/5): - A really nice and easy stay at this guesthouse. Food was great too!
- Valentina (8/5): - Room was big and comfortable. The view from the balcony was very pretty. Breakfast could improve. There is a cooking smell in the lobby/breakfast area which stayed on the clothes for days.
- Troy (8/5): - A great choice for the area.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Clean, good located .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful staff. Fantastic breakfast. Beautiful view.
- Yulian (10/5): Awesome room in a great location - We spent two nights at the guesthouse and really enjoyed it. The room was very spacious with great view of the secret lagoon and the nearby river and very well furnished. The restaurant has small but very tasty menu. Although as we learned afterwards it was only open for dinner when we arrived and asked if we could have lunch there we were immediately offered some options and even got some coffee on the house! We highly recommend this guesthouse if you are visiting the secret lagoon, the geysers or the Gullfoss waterfall.
- DARREN (8/5): Good stay - Good stay and good breakfast. No places in the immediate area to eat after 8pm, so plan ahead. Nice room and plenty of parking. Even saw the Northern Lights from the room.
- Janine (10/5): - The Guesthouse Fludir is a quaint hotel that was perfect for our stay in Iceland. The food was good, the breakfast included, the people friendly, and we were even upgraded to a bigger room. Thank you so much for our stay!
- katherine (10/5): Great overnight stay - Thankyou, great room.... clean, smart and very welcoming.
Great breakfast
