Guest Reviews
- Gary (9/5): - Great location Noise air conditioning unit
- Paul (9/5): Cosy well-equipped inn in a pretty heritage building five minutes from the water and great breakfast - Wonderfully located and pretty heritage building close to the legislature and waterfront with well decorated rooms and a spacious common kitchen area with a friendly staff member on site to prepare a generous breakfast. The rooms have fridge and kitchen facilities, some with patios. The bed was huge and super comfortable. Not much to say. A few more lamps in the room would have made it cosier, aircon, and access to a washing machine would have been good but these were small things.

- Ken (10/5): Checked all the boxes - will return someday and will recommend this place to others. - Very quaint - nice and quiet. Johnny is a great host. Close to everything downtown Victoria. Nothing not to like - everything was great!
- christian (10/5): I look forward to returning! - Excellent location . Well setup room. Responsive hosts. Very clean.
Vielen Dank!
- Nicole (6/5): Beautiful property, great location. - Great location, friendly and accommodating host and good, but simple, continental breakfast upstairs in the kitchen. The property was beautiful with lots of plants/flowers. Loved how many pillows were on the bed. Check in was easy and we loved the recommendations for things to do/see/eat nearby. Our queen bed, was a Murphy bed with a thin mattress, that wasn’t indicated in any of the pictures or description, I would have booked a different room/hotel if I knew that. There were four spiders in the corner and one above the bed.
- Janet (10/5): -
- Margaret (9/5): Excellent all round - This is an outstanding property and a perfect location for walking to the main wharf area and city. The well appointed room had everything we needed. The breakfast was fantastic. Thanks to Johnny for amazing attention to detail. I would have preferred a firmer bed.
- Suranjith (3/5): -
- Lynn (9/5): Enjoyed our stay in James Bay neighbourhood and next to Beacon Hill park. - Beautiful home, great location, friendly staff.
- Diane (10/5): Fabulous place to stay in every way! - The inn is wonderful. It is beautiful inside and out. The suites leave nothing to be desired. Everything is spotless, rooms were very quiet and comfortable, breakfast was excellent, the house manager was a gem. The location is perfect. We loved this experience.
- James (9/5): This is a friendly and comfortable inn in a very convenient location. - Johnny was an excellent host and the location was great. The room was charming and quiet. The breakfast at the dining table was great and we enjoyed meeting fellow guests No significant issues.
- Michael (9/5): -
- Shelly (10/5): -
- Elspeth (10/5): Comfortable, private and great location - Location was great ….very central and near the ferry which I took to leave Victoria . Johnny made a wonderful extensive breakfast with lots of choice Nothing
- Joyce (10/5): -
- Barb (8/5): I would highly recommend this place as a relaxing place to stay and affordable for allthe amenities. - location downtown is excellent, staff is very helpful, we were able to check in early thanks to johnny, accommodations were all we needed, pleasantly surprised at the very good breakfast each morning, quiet location and the garage was clean and very handy for parking our rental car. the outside patio was very handy for sitting and relaxing after a day of adventures around Victoria. Being so close to Beacon Hill Park is also a bonus for a relaxing stroll after our supper meal. the power bar that was taped to the wall was coming off and not very secure.
- Eitan (10/5): - Cutest old cottage, spotlessly run, with soulfull, well designed, very clean and beautiful rooms. I stayed at the Renoir retreat and loved every second. The breakfast in the second floor was also very cute. I would definitely come again. Thanks Johnny!
- Phillips (10/5): - Would book here again before booking a hotel.
- Matheus (10/5): -
- Patricia (10/5): We enjoyed our stay very much! Wonderful! -

- cdb5dd203c8470c8d907683fb99cb96f (4/5): Great location but plan for drawbacks in order to enjoy your stay - Location was very convenient and the house itself, landscaping, etc was beautiful. It is nice to have a private entrance, but it is a basement in a walk-down bricked area so there is little natural light that gets to the room even on a bright day. If you have trouble with stairs this location will not work for you. The room is small and tight with a low ceiling as it is a basement. It is not a suite - the photos online are misleading. We turned the heat all the way off, but the room was still too hot too sleep. We couldn't open the windows as they were screwed shut. The mattress was quite soft, so if that is your preference you will like it, but if you prefer a firmer mattress it is not going to work for you. Caretaker Johnny likes to run the leaf blower at 8:30 am so don't plan to sleep in. Had no allergies over two days outside in Victoria, but sever reaction in the room which was quite dusty. Check in is 4pm which is quite late. If you are getting off the morning ferry from Port Angeles, do not plan on going to the house right away to park, and then being able to walk around the waterfront area from that base. Note that the underground parking is convenient but *not* included in the price and they are *not* able to accept payment through booking dot com - and the key card is not in the room until after you pay. This means there is a cycle of getting to check in later in the afternoon, dealing with Johnny to deliver payment on parking after which he will provide the key card, and only *then* being able to park. Note that English is not Johnny's first language and he has trouble communicating over the phone. They offer drip coffee but do not have any non-dairy milk or creamer. The room has a fridge, but there is no ice in the room or the downstairs accessible pantry area. Note that guests only have access to the kitchen and dining room on the main floor from 8am to 10am. Check out is 11am.
- f1f46e0e029370fcb464a2e858ea89bd (10/5): Lovely and we wish we would have booked more nights. - We were in the Monet suite and loved the decor. Jimmy made a great breakfast. Access to the lovely dining and living rooms was a treat while we enjoyed our coffee.

- Anna (8/5): - Waren nur eine Nacht dort. Lage ist top! Sauberkeit war gut. Matratze viel zu weich!
- Alice (10/5): Lovely heritage accommodation in an ideal location for exploring Victoria on foot. - Beautiful heritage building accommodation, very comfy and spacious room and lovely breakfast! Nothing, this place was perfect :)
- Andreas (8/5): - Tolle Lage, alles online aber super geklappt Garage duf 10 CAD ums Eck nur. Gegenüber liegt gleich der Beacon Hill Park Alles top
- David (9/5): Superb - Location The pullout bed was only fair
- Tina (1/5): Description not accurate, no follow up on dispute - Nice looking property overall but when we arrived, the listing details did not match the description on booking.com, namely, the number of beds had listed 3 and there were only 2. We needed 3 beds due to traveling with two adult children so we had to find something last minute and the host would not issue a refund and stopped communicating with me despite my repeated requests and evidence via screen shots of what booking.com had listed.
- Dave (8/5): Very good -
- Rosemary (9/5): Superb - This property is gorgeous, I loved how close it was to everything.
- Jim (10/5): Very nice self service (no front office staff on site) - Well maintained- very well thought out
- Susanne (10/5): Wonderful - The inn is in a fabulous location , central to downtown yet very quiet and secluded . The outside patio is surrounded by plants and provides a wonderful additional space. It was a cold june so we would have appreciated some extra blankets
- Anonymous (10/5): Great location within a few blocks of the waterfront and BC museum! - Great location within walking distance and quiet. Near the park. We rented two rooms and the only bad comment is the upstairs room took a while to cool down, which normally wouldn’t be an issue in Victoria. Not a lot bad to say.
- Anonymous (10/5): A great stay and pretty affordable given its location so close to downtown and Beacon Hill Park! - Great location in downtown Victoria near the Legislature Building, provincial Museum and Empress Hotel. Its a neat place. Communicationwith the host was very good with important information well laid out. I typically prefer a less spongy mattress cover, but that is a matter of personal taste and not really any form of shortcoming on behalf of the property or host.
- Katriona (9/5): Superb -
- Suzanne (8/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it - Location, individual rooms More information about what was available for breakfast and where to find things
- Anonymous (9/5): Hope to stay with you again. - Great area. Comfortable homey room. Available parking for guest. Good breakfast. Quiet. Coffee, tea, breakfast supplied. Interesting room set up. Felt a little exposed to the outside world on the lower level.
Felt like I was juggling with the soap and shampoo in the bathroom.
- Robert (9/5): Superb - We found this signage confusing. This was more an amusing challenge than a real problem. The door, when we tested it, was firmly locked. The only option would appear to be to break the glass. The note should add that staff will unlock the door at the suitable time.
- Wendy (10/5): Exceptional - This is a beautiful and stylish place to stay within easy walking distance of Victoria Inner Harbour. There was a cute note on the door for my arrival. Information to help with everything as a visitor was laid out. If you have the opportunity to go to the family area I totally recommend it, it is stunning.
The suite was cosy and comfortable with a fab communal area. I enjoyed sitting in my courtyard amongst the beautiful garden after a long day exploring. I wished I had booked longer.
- Gendy36 (10/5): A beautiful stay in a beautiful city - I fell in love with the whole residence as I walked up the pathway through the beautiful garden. I stayed in the Monet Garden Suite which had a cute courtyard, a wonderful living space with details I noticed the longer I stayed. The hosts left a note for my arrival and there is information for everything you need to know locally.
It is within easy walking distance of the Inner Harbour Area.
There is a lovely communal area.
- Marv (7/5): The stay was fine but quite impersonal. We would likely look for a different place next time. - The room was large and well maintained. The location is excellent, very central. Access to the room was a little awkward. Breakfast was marginal and there was no host to interface with. This wasn't necessarily an issue for us because we live on Vancouver island (Campbell River). However, foreigners would likely find this offputing since the purpose of using B&Bs is to have the opportunity to interface with "locals." In that sense the property is operated more like a hotel.
- Trek469373 (10/5): Beautiful stay! - What a charming Bed and Breakfast place. I loved everything about it. I brought my French Bull dog and he loved his walks in Beacon Park.. the beds were very comfy and rooms were exceptionally clean. I would definitely recommend a lovely stay at the Robert Porter Inn. Looking forward to returning.
- Barbara (8/5): Cute room, excellent location. - Excellent location, quiet, cute room, easy check-in and access. Great suggestions for nearby restaurants/shops. Very limited amenities (toiletries, coffee/tea, no pastries/biscuits). Signs taped all over the room.
- Maria (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah-jane (10/5): Lovely old building excelllently situated - We wanted something other than a white box hotel for our stay and this didn’t disappoint- lovely old building and decorated in sympathy. Close to downtown Victoria so easy access to everything -
- Anonymous (10/5): The Robert Porter Inn has everything you want for a stay in Victoria: location, value and comfort. - The Inn is a beautiful, historic house that is right behind the Royal BC Museum and a 10-minute walk from the Clipper terminal. It is also a 2-minute walk from a bus stop we used to take the bus to the University of Victoria. It's also across the street from Beacon Park, which is beautiful. Overall, it was a perfect location. There is a nice continental breakfast in the main dining room every morning which was unexpected. The host is responsive and easy to work with. Our family of 4 stayed in the Hemmingway Suite, which has lots of comfortable chairs and a very comfortable fold out sofabed with bedding provided. We would absolutely stay there again! I can't think of a thing we didn't like.
- Juliana (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful accommodation in a great location
Close to all the harbour has to offer. The breakfast and coffee facilities were great to have.
- Beth (10/5): Three couples traveling together, everyone happy with accommodations and location. - Location Breakfast coffee could have been a better quality. Confusing and contradicting signs in Hemingway Hideaway, for instance, at least two if not three wifi passcodes. Did not realize the lights were dimmable until last day; went for couple days with very little light.
- Teresa (9/5): Half-Marathon Weekend in Quaint B&B - Adorable heritage home converted to a B&B with wonderful location and comfortable accommodation.. There was a technical issue with the TV but apart from this everything was great.
- Deirdre (7/5): no shampoo in the bathrooms - location no reaction to my two phone calls,i asked questiond and no call back
- Jonny (10/5): Fantastic lodging for a weekend in Victoria - Amazing location, just a few minutes walk to the legislative buildings and The Empress. Easy stroll to shops cafés and bars. And ferry. Room was very cozy garden suite opening onto a patio. Cindy and her staff were extremely communicative and reachable with any questions.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Boutique (9/5): Great location, could use a better breakfast - Great location. Very comfy and staff communicated well and were supportive.
Beacon Hill Park is lovely. I thought we had booked a Bed and Breakfast, but the breakfast was a let down with just a continental self serve of costco muffins and shreddies cereal kind of thing. It took the romance out of the stay.
- William (7/5): Nice cozy room with too many stairs. - Cozy room with good bathroom. Nice decor. Good continental breakfast. Too many stairs. Complicated check in process - e.g. access to parking garage. Dark interior in room and dining room.
- Clint (9/5): Superb -
- Douglas (10/5): Very comfy and I would stay again! - Very quint and nice rooms. Stayed in Emily Carr och Van Gogh. Good continental breakfast. Great parking! All good
- Debra (9/5): Comfortable Stay in good location - Excellent written communication on property facilities/information
- Diane (9/5): I would recommend Robert Parker House for a stay in central Victoria. - Its location near Beacon Hill park, the Parliament Buildings and the Empress, the decor, the historical nature of the building.
There were suggestions written for different restaurants. We really enjoyed breakfast at Floyd’s Diner. We had 2 coffee makers in our room but no coffee pots to make the coffee in.
Breakfast was rather odd. There were sweet muffins but no whole grain or white bread, even though there was butter and jam on offer. There was no variety of fruit like oranges or apples… only bananas.
- Sharon (6/5): was pleasant - It had everything we needed...great location., the self serve breakfast was very good. The room we stayed in wasn't very clean, glass table, outside of toilet, towel hangers, drawers on side table were not cleaned, hair, etc so we couldn't use them
- Robert (8/5): Charming and well located - The contactless check in worked smoothly - we were early and left our luggage in the lockable lockers at the front door. The room was charming, comfortable and well supplied with amenities. Although on a reasonably busy street, the traffic noise did not penetrate. We could not work out how to adjust the heating and the gas fireplace appeared to constantly produce heat (probably from the pilot light) in a room that was already warm.
- Dustin (9/5): Superb -
- Glenn (7/5): Like staying at Grandma’s house. - It was a very cozy and comfortable room - kind of like staying at Grandmas house! It was nice they offered a free continental breakfast, but it was so poorly organized we had quite the time finding things like coffee cups and cutlery - could be so better organized. Also seems odd to have a sign warning of nuts in the pastries when there were none to be found.
- Judith (8/5): Once realised that it was in effect a self contained studio, liked the idea. - Location brilliant . Offer to help myself to breakfast in main house, by 2nd day nice touch , but pity not from start. Privacy and own entrance and patio . Never saw any staff and didn't know how to get hold of anyone when had any difficulties. Room never cleaned or garbage emptied.
- Sara (7/5): Good location for exploring Victoria - Great location, easy parking, plenty of room for two people Would love an upgraded
Tv so we could stream our own shows. And upgrading bedding would add a lot
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional - Location, breakfast area and offerings
- Natt (10/5): Exceptional -
- Doris (10/5): Would visit again - Delicious breakfast
Friendly hosts
Wonderful house
Beautiful surroundings
- Phan (9/5): Relaxing - The Inn was quaint and had a lot of character. The location was great, it was close to downtown Victoria but away from the hustle and bustle. Staff were quick to respond to messages.
- Catherine (10/5): Best Room with Excellent Location for Victoria - Beautifully well appointed. We loved the theme-based room.
The continental breakfast was a surprise with so many foods to choose from.
The ammenities in the room were beyond the usual.
We appreciated the safe underground parking.
- Sheila (10/5): For a VERY beautiful inn, with a great location, and good value - LOCATION! Great area for easy quick walking to the terminal area. Able to drop off our luggage and get an uber to Butchart Gardens. Also within walking distance of so many sights, and literally around the corner from Beacon Hill Park No streaming availability on TV
- Kimberly (8/5): Very good - Location, having my own entrance, the dishes and the access to filtered water and additional dishes when needed. I also liked that the suite I was in was dog friendly and that it was decorated on theme. The toilet wasn't properly cleaned on the outside. There was some hair or fur unfortunately. Otherwise everything else was great.
- Luisa (8/5): Very good - Excellent location close to shops and beautiful walks, and also just around the corner from the ferry bus stop. It's an older inn with basic amenities and Victoria charm. Bed and pillows could have been more comfortable.
- Karen (9/5): Superb - We enjoyed our stay in this comfortable, beautiful space. The room was spacious with excellent light. The location was excellent!
- Kara-lee (7/5): A lovely little spot close to all the sites ! - The location was fantastic ! Walking distance to all the main sites which was so great. The hosts were very responsive and easy to communicate with and provided us with extra pillows we had requested prior to checking in. They brought is some toiletries that were not in the shower. There is a small area with kettle, coffee machine, utensils, fridge, microwave, etc. There is also a common area that all rooms can access to put your dirty dishes and grab new ones if needed, as well as fresh drinking water. There are no views from the room we stayed in but it did have a lovely little patio area that we didn't get to use due to the weather. If you are noise sensitive, maybe try to book an upper unit as you can hear people above you quite easily. If that may bother you (stomping, phone calls, etc) then I would suggest other accommodations. That being said, it is a lovely spot and a cozy place to come back to after exploring! It was a bit noisy and we found the room hard to temperature control.
- Jenny (9/5): Superb -
- Nina (9/5): Superb -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Perfect - Excellent location, room comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. Hosts helpful and friendly. A great place to stay
- Robert (7/5): a cosy place to stay in Victoria - Location was excellent, close to the town, next to an excellent park and good access to public transport. would recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in Victoria The setup of the room was a little odd. We had kettle, fridge and microwave in the room, but water supply and other drink options were in a shared space. We were happy that it was quiet, but basically didn't see anyone, only the housekeeper, who helped us get into our room (an email with the door code hadn't been sent)
- Sally (9/5): Superb - Great location, bright fun place
- Nhuma (7/5): It's a great value for money option - Everything from the service, facilities and location of the hotel were excellent except the bed and the ventilation in the room (located at the lower level). It was too hot for me and the windows would not open all the way. The bed was uncomfortable and I could not sleep well
- Kelsey (6/5): Pleasant - Perfect location, price Broken sky light covers, unit was very warm in afternoon and ac unit ineffective, features highlighted on listing not available such as broken tub jets and heated bathroom tiles
- Jared (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathryn (8/5): Great private getaway lodging within easy walking distance to various sites and restaurants. - We stayed 3 nights for our anniversary. Great location and secured parking a short walk away. Very quiet. Enjoyed having fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Main issue was controlling the temperature in the room. Stayed warm even with thermostat turned down. Would stay here again.
- Ron (10/5): We thoroughly enjoyed the time spent in our suite. - Property was well maintained, location was good and it was a relaxing atmosphere.
- Alexis (7/5): Emily Carr - Excellent Location & Lovely Artwork - Excellent walkable location.
Quaint neighborhood & Inn Additional bonus was the lovely artwork (Emily Carr).
Communication with the owner was easy. Very straightforward instructions / easy access to room.
Overall a pleasant stay. I would definitely stay at the Robert Porter Inn again but next time would request an upper floor unit. A bit of trouble with the TV remote (non-responsive)
Soundproofing from the neighbors above could have been better.
It would have been helpful to have fireplace & heating instructions.
- Dalia (9/5): Superb - Great location and reasonable rates. Easy check in and check out process. Found some hair in the blankets on the bed and a small hair on one of the towels. But the room felt very clean other than that.
- Katie (8/5): Very good -
- Colleen (10/5): What a gem! - This was a last-minute stay for us, and we were very pleased to find this lovely place. The location was perfect for walking everywhere.(we walked to/from Save on Memorial arena, downtown Victoria, James Bay and Beacon Hill park during our stay). Cindy was very responsive and provided lots of recommendations for local eateries, etc. We stayed in the Van Gough themed room, which was super clean and spacious. It was also great to have reasonably priced parking on-site. All good
- Kirsten (7/5): Location location location - Gorgeous location right next to a stunning massive park Beacon Hills Park which leads to a lookout and waterfront walk. Quick walk to waterfront and Downtown.
Property itself is lovely. Very authentic and delightful including gardens.
- Crystal (10/5): This is a beautiful home in a beautiful location and I am looking forward to booking it again in the future! - We were blown away when we arrived by how large the rental was! It was the perfect location, easy walk to downtown, and we felt fine letting our teenagers come and go as they please. Having a full kitchen, dining room and two bathrooms was perfect for a family of 5. Nothing.
- Judith (8/5): Very good - Thermostat didn’t seem to be working properly. Too hot and couldn’t turn it down
- Sylvie (10/5): Loved it and will probably come back. - The instructions received from the owner were very clear. Everything was as they said it would be. The room was comfortable & clean. There was coffee, lots of coffee cream (which I appreciated!). The little courtyard was beautiful. And the floors were heated... that was wonderful! It is centrally located: close enough to walk to the downtown area and the inner harbour, but on a quiet street. There is someone on site to help out if we need anything, but we didn't need anything, so we didn't see them. I'm sure they would have been lovely, though! Nothing, really.
- Alanna (8/5): Really enjoyed our trip to Victoria! The property has storage lockers for after check-out available. - Location - short walk to Victoria waterfront. We flew with Harbour air and it was a short 10/15 min walk to the property. Everything that we needed was in walking distance. We walked back after our dinners and evenings out in downtown. Based on the bottom of Beacon Hill Park, there are lots of attractions close by. The property was great for what we needed. We stayed in the Hemingway suite and it was plenty big with coffee, toaster, kettle and other appliances to make our stay more convenient. The only downside (if we had one) the jacuzzi in-suite no longer works and acts like a regular bath!
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was top notch as usual.Great location.Did a ton of walking.Close to everything.
