Guest Reviews
- Gonzalez (10/5): -
- Kelly (9/5): Perfect escape from reality of the corporate world - Cozy.
Tucked away.
Trenton was very kind and helpful. Everything was great
- Kristi (6/5): VERY COLD - Someone will have to stay up ALL night to feed the fire, or you will freeze! - That staff was spectacular. Very friendly and helpful. I didn't expect fine dining food but that's what we got. Expensive though. 2 of us was almost $90. The tent was really nice, clean and the bed was super comfortable. The staff gave you a ride to your tent. I was not pleased at all with the heat situation. It's advertised as having heat (a stove). What they don't tell you is that someone has to stay up ALL NIGHT to feed the fire or it will be 33 degrees in your tent in the morning. If you don't have someone with you that can do that, you will have a VERY rough and UNSAFE time driving the next day. We had to get our things and leave at 5am as we were freezing!! Paying over $300 for a late check-in and very early leave is crazy. We couldn't even shower due to the extreme cold. When I camp, I know that is the situation and prepare accordingly. This was unexpected.
- Brian (9/5): - The actual size of the tent inside, ample room which was love!
- Stacy (9/5): It was pleasant, relaxing and exactly what I’d hoped for - Everything No complaints, but for my age I think I’d prefer to rent a tent with the bathroom in it for my next stay.
- Kelsy (10/5): -
- Jeff (10/5): It was lovely and we plan on coming back again to really get a full experience! - We loved being able to see the stars as we slept and we only stayed for a couple days this time but we plan on booking for a longer duration next time. Next time we will definitely request one king mattress as opposed to 2 mattresses pushed together since my partner and I enjoy cuddling and one of us kept falling into the center divide between the mattresses haha.

- John (10/5): -
- Kaleigh (10/5): - Absolutely will be back. I had a great stay, felt safe, and the staff were all very friendly. The s’mores were also a great finishing touch to a great night
- Susan (10/5): - Clean and cozy tent and very friendly and accommodating staff.
- Jenna (7/5): - Beautiful location - camp sites were closer together than I would have expected. Their food / cafe - too expensive for just average food. My husband paid $32 for a bowl of spaghetti that would have cost us $10 to make at home. There were also no picnic tables, so they wanted you to over spend at their average cafe.
A camp site should always have picnic tables available - glamping or not.
- Stefanie (8/5): - Our stay was pleasant, however, the nights were very cold, because the only heat comes from a wood fire stove. The bed was made, but the remains from the dinner and dishes were not removed from the room. Overall a unique experience, but more rustic than we expected.
- Gary (10/5): - Great glamping experience. Very comfortable cabins,
- Dale (10/5): Perfect Rushmore Accommodations - Comfortable Glamping
- Peter (10/5): - My stay was wonderful. My tent was great, very comfortable and the views from the deck were perfect for morning coffee and afternoon relaxing. It was cold and rainy one day so I used the wood burning stove which made it extra cozy! I ate my breakfasts and dinners at the on site restaurant. The food was delicious. Nice wine selection too. And fresh coffee starting very early in the morning and throughout the day is great. Finally you can see Mount Rushmore from the communal deck so you almost don’t need to go if you want to avoid the crowds and Just relax at this beautiful quiet location.
- Christopher (10/5): - Soo quiet! The employees were helpful and pleasant.
The short trip to town and views of Mount Rushmore were the cherry on top
- Cindy (10/5): A beautiful peaceful trip - Upscale camping Beautiful view of Mount Rushmore
- Rene (8/5): -
- serena (10/5): -
- Norman (10/5): - Great location with beautiful views. Would definitely do it again.
- jaclyn (10/5): -
- Pamela (10/5): - Love spending time at under canvas. Cozy bedding, wood burner for warmth and top notch furniture. Great coffee too! Best friendly staff.
- Michael Robert (8/5): - First time glamping. Property and staff were great.
- Ashley (10/5): - Above and beyond. Everything was top notch from staff, to meals, to activities. My only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.
- David (10/5): - We are in our 80s we were extremely comfortable in every way. Our cabin had a bathroom The water heated quickly our tent was beautifully yet simply decorated we stayed 6 days and would have enjoyed staying longer We loved the look out deck where we could sit and view mount Rushmore. What more could you ask
- Paul (10/5): - The guys put the “GL” in glamping. Exceeded expectations in every way.
- Carmen (10/5): - Loved it!!! Such a unique experience!! The atmosphere was so peaceful - surround by Beauty!!
- filippo (4/5): Posizione SUPER --- Glamping NO!!! - Posizione fantastica da 10/10.
Aree comuni e terraza panoramica 10/10. Sembrava un Campeggio più che un Glamping...
- Kevin (10/5): - Would stay again. Loved it.
- Adrian (9/5): Fun glamping and ideal Mount Rushmore base - A great novelty to stay in a tent / cool camp like this. Greta fun with kids and a super base for visiting Mount Rushmore. The fire pits with smore kits were great, lovely food in the main tent and great views of the M Rushmore. Can get very hot in day and very cold at night in the tent… advise you bring some firefighters / proper gas click lighter to manage the fire if needed.
- Douglas (7/5): They are suffering from excessive heat from climate change - Very picturesque setting Poorly maintained gravel walking paths. Treacherous after dark, wash out erosion.
There provided battery banks are not up to the task of sole power for everything.
Way too much helicopter noise, nine in the morning till five at night.
- Lori (2/5): - I never leave a bad review but it was extremely not what i thought. 2 fans for 3 people in 97 degree weather. Charges on my credit card i never spent. Not glamorous camping at all. No food allowed in tent… no electricity and crappy coffee.
- koeno (10/5): Glamping in beautiful nature. We loved it! - Loved it! One of the most special stays of our road trip and I will try to stay in more Under Canvas venues in future trips to the US. It was especially fun for our 8 year old daughter. The tents are very comfortable and we were a short walk to the showers and toilets which were cleaned every 5 mins it felt like. Great restaurant with good choices for breakfast and dinner. Lots of games to play and also free s'mores to roast. So nice to be in all that nature. and very close to Mount Rushmore which was why we came. The only thing is they add 50 cents or a dollar every time we charged something to our room. Something which wasn't mentioned when we arrived.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Our first impressions weren’t great-negative initial staff interaction. There were other minor issues along the way as well. The food was very good and as a rule the staff were great. I was able to provide feedback to the general manager directly and she handled the our concerns promptly and to our satisfaction. I would not hesitate to try them again.
- Simon (10/5): - This was an amazing experience for me and my boys. It was a fantastic way to wrap up our West road trip
- Stephanie (10/5): -
- John (10/5): - This is “glamping” at its best. Thoughtful and unique design elements. Beautiful vistas everywhere. Privacy and yet community accessibility in the same place - footsteps away. The view of Mount Rushmore was a bonus feature. The food was so much better than expected. I would highly recommend.
- negin (4/5): Not worth the price - Overall, I don’t think the place/amenities are worth it. I got a suite since I was on a long road trip and wanted to shower as well. The on-site dining is fantastic. If you have not gone camping before and you want to start off with “glamping” this might be a suitable option. My soap dispenser was broken and one of the fans didn’t work. I personally don’t think it’s worth the price. I was supposed to get a bandana for my dog which I never received either. The room was also very dirty. Items left over clearly from previous guests. Very disappointing.
- Erik (8/5): Had a wonderful time and would stay again. - Very beautiful area , clean tents, great view, friendly staff. A little hard to find
- luca (9/5): - Tutto bellissimo,
Tenda pulita e con tutto il necessario, immerso ne verde con vista su monte Rushomre .
Menzione speciale per Andrew che ci ha accolto al check in e è stato super gentile
- Neva (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay. The only bummer was that we seemed to be near a tent with teenagers and kids that were quite loud between 9 pm and 11 pm on a weekday.
- Tim (10/5): - My wife and I loved our stay here. We had a Stargazer tent and the view above the bed was incredible, we even got to see meteors one night! We now want to go and check out some of the other Under Canvas locations, it was top notch!
- Cindy (10/5): - My first “yurt” experience was a great one. Nice common areas, cozy tents, friendly staff & healthy, delicious food options in the restaurant. I would definitely stay again at another Under Canvas
- David (10/5): - This place is AMAZING! Staff is incredibly accommodating, the tents are clean and nicely appointed, the food and selections are high quality, and the overall resort convenient to every national park. Incredible!!
- Sheila (10/5): - Fgt
- Richard (10/5): - Beautiful setting, amenities were great. Live music was a nice touch.
- Victor (10/5): - Bed comfort
- Peter (10/5): - Under the Canvas experience is something everyone should try. The luxurious tent was spatious, well decorated and with a very good bed. Camping like this becomes fun!
- Kris (8/5): - Comfortable bed, shower/bathroom area could be cleaner. More shelves in shower area for towels clothes and toiletries. Awesome view of Mt. Rushmore.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful Place and Area - Very much enjoyed our camping experience.
- Dawn (10/5): - Staff were amazing! Great food, loved the glamping!!
- Wang (4/5): Not great as I thought. - It’s my first time camping and it’s a great experience. The water closed at midnight, and some people had checked in in midnight , and the kids tent has mold.
- Mckenzie (10/5): - Great experience!
- Heidi (6/5): - We liked the food and drink options available.
The tent was terrible for sleeping- the bed was creaky and noisy, the wind was whipping the sides of the tent against the bed making it impossible to sleep.
- Marilen (8/5): - Great for campers that can't be too far from the washroom. A bit of a trek to get up to, but it's all worth it. Close to shopping and the Mt. Rushmore area.
- Arik (10/5): - Everything was beyond our expectations. From the provided s'mores, gas campfires, disc golf, hiking trail, room comfort, peaceful nights, delicious restaurant and bathroom/showers - we'll be back!
- Robert (8/5): Between camping and glamping - A great experience as long as you know what to expect. Did not expect lack of electricity in tent, only small battery powered fans to beat the heat. Very rough terrain to tent, dangerous for elderly. Tent and bathroom clean, except for cowhide on the floor. Staff great, loved being able to bring our dog to dinner. She rated the stay “incredible”!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property was nice and the tent was well shaded and spacious. We werent allowed to have food in the tent which made it a little tricky for families with dogs that are staying multiple days
- Amy (9/5): Superb - We stayed in a star gazing tent, and it was awesome. The clouds cleared and we saw stars and satellites! The property is very cute with lots of hiking trails. Lots of activities offered like s'mores and music. The tent was clean and it was nice to have hot water to wash our hands and take showers. The bed was comfy. We had so much fun exploring and taking in the sights! The wood burning stoves leak smoke into the tent. We heard smoke alarms going off in other tents throughout the night. We called for maintenance, but they were very busy so we cancelled the call, and bundled up when the temps dropped over night. Not a big deal for us, but we did not want to be jolted awake by an alarm so we "toughed it out". Minor feedback for an overall lovely stay.
- Allen (10/5): It was an awesome experience, first time glamping as a family, the memories will last a lifetime. - We ate dinner at the restaurant, the food was very tasty and very fresh. The atmosphere of the entire place was very comforting, we were traveling for our 2 week family vacation, only wish we could have stayed longer, but it was the perfect place to be. Can't think of anything other than it misted rain and we couldn't see Mt Rushmore light up, but we wouldn't change a thing.
- CYNTHIA (10/5): - Fun place to stay
- SUIN (4/5): - It was very cold around 42
- Irene (8/5): Very good -
- Maureen (10/5): - Great place for the whole family.
- Martin (10/5): - Excellent service from front desk, available on short notice at all times, very accommodating!
- David (10/5): - Last minute decision to stay here as always wanted to try a glamping experience. Exceeded our expectations. Really enjoyed the location and the facilities, both our tent and the lodge areas. Surprised at the quality of food available which was appreciated as allowed us to further enjoy the resort. Staff pleasant and helpful. Had a huge rain storm complete with thunder & lighting which made our tent so cozy. Fire / stove worked perfectly (I guess some guest were not as comfortable on operation as quite a bit of whining on the cold in the morning). Minor suggestion, how bought plastic wine glasses or plastic stemless glasses. Plastic water cups although understand the need tough to enjoy a glass of wine in the wonderful atmosphere in a water cup. AND cut to single toast for avocado and use real avocados as the green goo poor replacement. Cut portion and improve quality. Goes with your other items (yes, I’m in the restaurant industry). Haha!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful and unique experience with great views.
- John (6/5): - Just be prepared for how basic this is and definitely know what the temperatures are going to be. The tent is barren and you’ll find minimal comfort inside. We froze at night - could literally see our breath in the morning bc no one can wake up every hour or so to put a new log in the little stove. There wasn’t even a little clicker-lighter, so we ran out of matches trying to light kindling at 3am. No robes or slippers to keep you warm while trying to make fire. In the day, it was uncomfortably warm and all you get is a hockey puck-sized fan that plugs into a USB. The toilet situation is, let’s say, extremely intimate. Where our tent was located, we could hear every car on the gravel at all hours. However, there are bright spots: the staff is wonderful and the central lobby/clubhouse tent was very nice with live music, an observation deck to see Mt. Rushmore, and fire pits with s’mores. Personally, I just don’t think you can fairly call this glamping. It absolutely wasn’t.
- Cheryl (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay. Everyone was polite and the ease to check in and out was great. Food options were good and my breakfast was my favorite! You can’t control what others do but we found it quite and so very clean!
- Erika (9/5): Gorgeous setting and great location to visit Mt Rushmore and other nearby attractions - We loved the location of this hotel, the gorgeous view of Mt Rushmore and the Black Hills from the terrace and the well appointed tents. We also really enjoyed eating at the hotel - good options, friendly service, nice outdoor seating and a range of board games to play while you wait. Great atmosphere. My kids loved that every night there were materials for s'mores to make at the various fire pits around the property. The hotel felt understaffed and we were often waiting for someone to appear to help us with check in, check out, ask about activities they offered or other things related to front desk. I felt the price was a bit high for what was offered.
- Bridgett (10/5): - The people that worked there were absolutely amazing! So friendly and HAPPY!! All of them! They made the experience great. The accommodations were top notch! In fact we are now planning to visit more of these site around the US. The bed was amazing!!
- Jill (6/5): Pleasant - It was very cold and the small log heater wasn’t sufficient. Our tent was next to the little path and road leading to the main tent. It was very noisy. The dining tent and main tent were also too close and the peoples voices and laughing was irritating. We could even hear the scraping of chairs on the floor.
- Micah (10/5): The tents were so fun to stay. Loved the staff and cleanliness of the facility. -
- Jill (8/5): - Lovely property. Have a fun get away with my husband. Unique experience
- Daniel (10/5): - Great experience for “camping”
- Deana (10/5): - We had such a good time. And our two dogs had even more fun. We were all so relaxed. Really enjoyed sitting out in the Mount Rushmore viewing area with a glass of wine after a long drive. The food is really good and the staff is as nice as we’ve found anywhere. Jadz the night manager is great and we love the dude who runs the food area. All of them class acts. We don’t like camping but love UNder Canvas. The tents are awesome.
- Melissa (8/5): - I love the stay in my tent and I didn't even have to punt up the yent. It took my back to thinking of camping with my Daddy. I was able to view the stars and see Mount Rushmore from the facilities. I like having the convenience of the bathroom in my tent. I like the seclusion and privacy of my tent. Things the could improve on are adding an electric socket to each tent. I always had electricity at my campsite. When they ran plumbing they could have easily ran electrical too. The downfall of not having electricity is that their power banks only charged my phone halfway. It died at Mount Rushmore so I could not take anymore photos until I was back at my car. Also the hot water tank could be larger.
- Michelle (6/5): - The people were great and the location was amazing.
Having to stoke the fire overnight was unexpected - but we are not big campers. For the money we paid for our stay, we expected more amenities even though it is marketed as glamping.
- Rachbugeja (9/5): Superb -
- Bucholz (8/5): Very good - Very cool experience. Staff was kind and accomodating to a special request. The three little lanterns weren't quite enough light. There was a hole and a hornet nest above our bed, luckily it didn't rain and we didn't see any bees.
- Jill (10/5): - We had the best stay at Under Canvas - Mt. Rushmore. It was our first time at an Under Canvas and the staff was so friendly and helpful and the campground was clean. Very scenic - would definitely recommend!
- Chloe (6/5): - We had about 2 inches of water in our stove, it made it very hard to keep a fire going the first night, it had rained and we had standing water under the heat stove, we had housekeeping clean it up before we realized there was standing water inside the heat stove. Now it had rained very heavily before we got there but looking at the cap to the stove pipe, it was bent and damaged, allowing water to come into the stove. Also we were inundated with moths both nights after dark, that was memorable.
- Hiroko (6/5): - A lot of stuff wasn’t explained when checked in. How to use shower, how to get hot water, how to start fire stove and how to keep running, where’s comforter for sofa bed, where’s dryer etc. Every staff has different skills with fire stove and some staff even can’t start the fire and expect us to do it was too much to ask. The location was wonderful and staff were friendly. But needed more information and instruction.
- Edna (10/5): - It was great
- Leigh (10/5): - Amazing. It’s was a beautiful experience.
- George (4/5): - Although we had a wonderful time once we got to the property Expedia directions to the property were absolutely incorrect and we ended up on a fenced dirt road
- Barbara (8/5): Very good -
- Gabrielle (10/5): Great glamping experience - We stayed in suite tent. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom was perfect. I liked the restaurant and social areas.
- Glenda (10/5): - The Under Canvass experience was great!
- David (4/5): - The experience you have is highly dependent on which specific tent location you're assigned (luck of the draw). Our first night we were given a tent immediately next to the parking lot, and all night we had to hear car doors slamming shut, car horns honking, and had lights shining into our tent. It was a horrible experience and not what I signed up for when paying almost $500 a night for a getaway in nature. Fortunately we were able to move tents to one of the best locations on the property for our second and third nights. But the variability and uncertainty in tent location make me doubt I'd stay there again.
- KERRY (10/5): - Our Kids Loved This Super Fun Unique Experience!!!
Definitely would do this again!!!!
- Julie (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at Under Canvas Mount Rushmore. The staff were all super friendly. Loved the dinner, meeting other guests over smores and the campfire, and hanging out on the deck with a (distant) view of Mount Rushmore. The facilities were all very clean. Will definitely check out some other Under Canvas locations!
- Patrick (10/5): Great Glamping experience- perfect location. - Great glamping experience! Enjoyed the private bathroom arrangements within the tent. Very nice and helpful staff. Excellent dining tent! Perfect location for Mount Rushmore in attractions around in the area. There is no electricity, but we did not mind because the charging blocks that were provided did the trick.
- Stella (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. Very nice set up. Fabulous staff. Very clean.
- Lindsey (10/5): - This is my kind of camping! We had so much fun staying here the whole family is excited to come back!
- Becky (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay here. Would stay again!
- Jennifer (8/5): - The staff was helpful and the tent was a "different" experience. I would recommend fixing the road up to Under Canvas because it was very secluded and bumpy, we thought we were driving into someone's private property.
- Kristie (8/5): - My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at Under Canvas. We ended up there on a very wet Memorial day so it was a bit challenging with all the mud. However, we chose to go glamping so we didn’t let it affect our experience. My favorite thing about Under Canvas is the friendliness of the staff. They were kind, helpful and fast with requests. The beds in the canvas’s were so comfy and the hot water bottles available for night time were genius!! The only negatives thus the 4 stars would have been the lack of seating inside at the restaurant when it’s cold and rainy and the fact our shower had a pull chain so you if you want continuous water you have to keep pulling the handle. My sisters tent had a turn knob so they were good. I might provide a weight that can be hung on the chain while showering. But It wasn’t impossible lol. Thank you Under Canvas for a memorable stay.
