Guest Reviews
- Böhme (8/5): - Die Lage! Die Zimmer sind sehr klein! Es war teilweise sehr gestopft.
- Shona (3/5): Disappointed from when arrived in room. Room had not been cleaned to a basic standard - Love Argyll, but won't be back to hotel Waiting six hours to get room provisions replaced and room not clean. 4pm to 10pm. Toilet seat broken and shower head filthy. Bin full of rubbish, shoes left in room. Dirty cups with no tea bags or biscuits. One staff member on in evening for bar and reception, surely this is a health and safety issue. Also no space in car park, not the first time to have this issue at the hotel.
- Iain (6/5): - Location is fantastic. Dated hotel, poor facilities, however the staff were fantastic, friendly and welcoming.
- MACCALLUM (7/5): Pleasant stay with lovely view across the water - the breakfast was good. a teapot and coffeepot at the table would have made breakfast so much better.
- Campbell (7/5): A pleasant enough stay with a super location - Believe recently took over and going through some much needed refurbishment, the breakfast was very good, the staff very friendly, location is nice with views of the loch. Bed although hard was surprisingly comfy and had 2 excellent nights sleep. Room was a little cold the first night, electric heaters not always the best but was fine the 2nd night.
- Rovingrom (7/5): Somewhat tired hotel that has seen some positive changes and improvement. Friendly staff. - Small but comfortable bedroom, comfortable bed, good tea/coffee making facilities. Bathroom was fine with a good, hot shower. Mostly friendly, helpful staff - especially the manager who was welcoming and had organised an entertaining (optional) quiz evening for the restaurant guests. I was expecting to pay extra for breakfast but it was provided free of charge. In places this hotel is quite jaded and seems somewhat run down. The exterior is not very welcoming, with flaking paint and some rotted window frames. Inside it felt better and clearly some work has been done to improve the furnishings and decor. However in my room the heating would not have been adequate in cold weather and the window blind was full of holes. It was difficult to find how to regulate the shower water temperature, which at first was scalding hot. The room I had booked did not have the promised sea view - the view was onto an overgrown garden - but this didn't matter as the bed was comfortable and I got a good night's sleep.
- Andrea (5/5): -
- Helen (8/5): Very comfortable stop over, great food, staff attentive - Location, bar and restaurant, evening meal, staff, newly refurbished bathroom, Communal areas tired
- Kevin (8/5): -
- Noreenhickey (1/5): Nae hot water - No hot water we’re never told at check in found out from another guest. Asked about electric shower in anokther room but was told they didn’t know what rooms had electric showers by reception staff.
- Jane (6/5): - The location was great.
Breakfast was lovely and fab views across the bay. Good service and prompt. The hotel is very tired looking and run down. Our room had clean sheets but bathroom tired looking and bits of fluff on the floor. The beds were lumpy. The door was not very secure. The corridor door had some smashed glass which was taped over. One of the reading lights over the bed not working.
- James (2/5): - Location Had a lovely view of the loch for about 30 minutes ,two works vans parked up against our window for the duration of our stay. I complained to employee at desk ,said there was nothing he could do .
- DJ DMK (6/5): Dave ardrisaig - Location Kitchen shut at 8/9pm no takeaways in local area and no option of getting sthing to eat in hotel after that time
- Sean (8/5): -
- Steven (3/5): Disappointed & will be looking at alternative arrangements next time. - Location perfect for our work purposes.
Breakfast & Staff - Excellent. Poor maintenance within Room #8 - Curtain Rail degraded, Pelmet missing a section & mid-section loose from fixings with risk of falling. Curtains not meeting due to issues with Pelmet & broken Curtain Hooks.
Shower enclosure - Old Riser Rail left beside the ‘new’ Riser, held in place by one fixing. Fixing holes from previous fixtures unfilled in tiles. Gives a poor impression.
No HW provision due to issue affecting the boiler at the weekend, two days before arrival. This remained the situation at departure two days later. Cold showers, whilst refreshing, are not for everyone & the price charged for this stay has not been adjusted to reflect the inconvenience.
Food within restaurant was disappointing, mouldy, stale roll with soup, which was good. Fish & Chips was also poor, fish was wet & batter not to a suitable standard.
- Suzanne (8/5): It was pleasant and the staff were friendly. - It was central and easy to get to with ample parking. There was smashed glass in one of the fire doors. Our door sign was broken and there were wires that had come off the wall going up the stairs.
- ANDREWS (3/5): - Location beautiful very run diwn needs investment smell off damp Small room top of stairs 3 floors no lift and very damp
- Mitchell (4/5): This was adequate but disappointing and we did not want to either have a meal or breakfast - Property is in an excellent position but needs updating First impression of outside with weeds growing and paintwork flaking
Room allocated was beside a fire door which could not close and when we returned to room in the evening, no electricity
We were given another room with a sea view which was adequate
- Susan (5/5): Did the job and would probably stay here again when in the area. - Only really decent hotel in the area. The staff were very friendly. No hot water. Was only informed of this on the day and very little time to book anywhere else. Did NOT like being on the third floor. We are in our 60s/70s and carrying suitcases to floor 3 was not great. The bed had a very strange mattress.
- Oceanpotions (10/5): A great find! - Super friendly staff, great food, lovely room with a good supply of tea, coffee, milk and sugar ~ unlike most, where they expect two sachets of milk and sugar to constitute enough for one morning! Also a complimentary bottle of drinking water.
Excellent location right opposite the loch and an easy ten minute walk to the bus stop to go south to Campbeltown or onwards to Oban or Glasgow. Right beneath the beautiful Crinan Canal with beautiful walks along side it.
All in all, a great find and good value for money.
Axxx Nothing really!

- Debbiemc62 (2/5): - Location was perfect staff were lovely
Room was enormous
View was amazing Room was not in good state
Curtains were hanging off and would not shut so sunlight came in
No bulb in light fitting above bath
Carpet grip loose and sticking up
Grouting in bathroom was to be frank disgusting
Unsafe tile edges in bathroom
Water marks and black marks on ceiling
Coffee/tea spilt down walls
Kettle only usable via extension lead which kept falling
- paul (8/5): -
- louis (7/5): -
- Sean (6/5): - Breakfast was good Shower didn’t work
- Dawn (10/5): - Lovely breakfast and staff were very pleasant and helpful Nothing
- David (1/5): Very disappointing - Location The hot tubs were only one hot tub and had no water in it and the area was dirty and the fence was hanging over it and there was a hole in the side of it. The fire exit didn’t close properly and had to be forced to open. There was mold on the bathroom and an electric heater that was bashed up was in the room as the wall heater was broken. There was not enough staff and they served flat lemonade and had no other bottles so had to use our own. The coffee machine wasn’t working so offered an instant coffee for breakfast even through they had a big sign promoting their coffee. Also no plug in the sink. The place was very run down.
- Margaret (6/5): Visit for a family celebration in village hall, so, Grey Gull very convenient. Stay all too short. - Location superb; Breakfast marvelous - first taste of eggs benedict! Initial room entry very cold, but once heater on , it soon warmed up!
- Catherine (7/5): -
- Armstrong (6/5): - Staff all friendly and courteous.
En-suite facility of Room 4 excellent. Room 4 carpeting 'tired'. Maintenance required of coat hanger hook ( loose screws).
'Full Scottish breakfast' was poor in quantity and quality.
- William (10/5): Very welcoming staff and food was excellent - Clean, warm and staff were excellent. Nothing
- Peter (7/5): Surprisingly comfortable and good value for money - The hotel is under new management and already the signs are very positive. The rooms were delightful and modern in contrast to the outside impression. Well appointed and very comfortable, our room included a sauna. The bathroom was spotless with a sizeable shower. The outside needs an uplift to bring this hotel back to being a smart boutique style offering. The improvements thus far are impressive and a refreshed decor would make such a difference.
- Hohendorf (8/5): - Sehr freundlich. Großes Zimmer mit schönem Blick.
- Alan (8/5): - Location., Room, Restaurant, etc. The bin hadn't been emptied. The TV remote was missing. But neither was a problem.
- Robert (8/5): -
- Chris (5/5): Lovely staff but hotel needs a bit of work. - Staff and restaurant were absolutely fantastic and the views over Loch Fyne incredible. 30 rooms but only enough space for 10-12 cars. Given location, it would be impossible to travel any way other than car. Stairs inside property very uneven. Also lots of trip hazards, smashed or broken panes of glass and hotel in places seemed very tired.
- Sarah (4/5): Beautiful old building in need of TLC. A poor nights sleep due to the rattling window and uncomfortable bed. Overall not - Convenient and available last minute when our ferry was cancelled so we were grateful for the safe haven. Good meal in the restaurant. Friendly atmosphere.. The building is quite run down and in need of repairs and redecoration. Our rooms were next to a fire escape that doesn’t close. One room was very cold. The TV didn’t work. The beds had very old, worn mattresses with no padding on top of the springs. Our window rattled all night and the curtains were coming off the tracks. The toilet seat was falling off and the shower was coming away from its hose so didn’t work properly.
- donald (8/5): -
- Courtney (5/5): -
- Sharon (6/5): Ok value for money but tired.its a long walk up to the third floor with heavy bags. - It's a good location. This is really tired now. Worst light in a restaurant I've seen in a while. Could so easily be more inviting by turning the lights down a bit. Hot tub ? No thanks
- Richard (1/5): -
- Callum (10/5): Great fun! Great laughs! Great people! Great time! - The facilities were great! Hot tub was great fun and staff were amazing! Nothing!
- Phil (10/5): A hidden Gem. Highly recommended - The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the food was excellent and the room was lovely and very clean
- Michael (7/5): - Friendly staff good food
- David (8/5): Very comfortable - The location and the staff especially the New GM Gavin he’s doing a very good and professional job and is a genuinely nice guy A bit dark in our bathroom Room 1
- Julie (6/5): -
- Robert (7/5): -
- Michelle (9/5): Awesome - Staff very friendly and welcoming. Very laid back and felt more like home. Food was great and just generally fabulous service
- Carole (9/5): Great nights stay, good food, welcoming - Booked at really short notice as the ferry was cancelled. Welcoming lovely staff, great room and we had the dog. The food was good as well :) Nothing
- Louise (10/5): - The girl on reception was lovely, and made us feel so welcome! The room was perfect and the bed was so so perfect The breakfast although plenty of it,the sausages and bacon looked a bit undercooked......thats the only thing.
An it certainly wouldn't stop me re-booking it in the future
- Debbiemc62 (5/5): -
- Linda (2/5): - No The room that i was taken to was not cleaned, i reported and was given another room. The heat was not working and i wasnt able to lock the door from inside
- Michael (8/5): - Good food friendly staff
- emma (5/5): OK for an overnight stay. - The staff were friendly and helpful. The shower pressure was poor and took along time to heat up . The shower tray was dirty and so was around the toilet. Broken socket next to bed. Also booked a sea view room and didn't get that. Got one towel in the room for 3 people had to ask for more.
- Alfred (9/5): -
- Ruaraidh (2/5): - The room and bed were freezing, and the
Light switches had dirty fingerprints
All over them,Not good, Won't be back.
- Michael (8/5): - Good food clean and friendly staff
- Ron (8/5): - Helpful friendly staff. Location.
Good food.
Overall, good value. Very small attic room with inadequate heating initially allocated.first night.
However staff extremely helpful in transfer to everyone good room.
- Ann (8/5): Don’t be put off by the exterior. Inside the hotel is very comfortable. Staff are really friendly and the food is exce - Staff were excellent. Food was great. Outside looks a bit tired.
- Jo (4/5): Shame as the hotel has potential. It is tierd and the staff are trying their very best to make your stay good - The staff were lovely Room tiny, food poor
- Ralph (8/5): -
- Justin (1/5): Terrible - The location overlooking the Loch, but still next to a busy road. The bed was comfy. On arrival, couldn’t get parked in the small car park as full of trades vans (typical guests).
The whole building outside and in is very tired and run down. Reception horrible and unwelcoming. Carpets thread bear and dirty throughout.
Decor cheap nasty not-tasteful faux “Scottish” touristy tat.
Staff not very friendly a bit quiet going through the motions.
Rooms have been part renovated very poorly with cheap items you could buy out of B&M (discount store). Carpet still old. Musty old smell throughout.
The room I purchased (double with sea view- with pictures) was not the room I was given. They obviously just put pictures of the best possible room in booking .com. I was actually given a tiny dark and dingy single at the back of the hotel overlooking a car park.
Breakfast worst I’ve ever had, highly ultra processed cheap discount store badly cooked with a terrible choice. Inedible.
This Hotel is extremely overpriced, should be a 3* at best- maybe hostel status and price to match.
- lesley (4/5): This hotel could be amazing but lacks attention to details. - The position of the hotel is wonderful. Bins on the drive way to welcome guests. Grubby entrance, dirty carpets, bathroom and bedroom. Evening meal and breakfast woefully.
- sylvain (3/5): tout était bien à l'extérieur de l'hotel paysages grandioses ect.. - l'emplacement et son parking l'eau froide pour les besoins fondamentaux de la toilette , douche
- Marie (8/5): - Excellent food and staff
Colazione super!
- Margaret (8/5): - The breakfast was lovely and catered for Gluten free. Staff were polite, knowledgeable and available
- Maritz (5/5): Never again - Called them 43 times no answer arriving late due to storm Amie travelling 12 hours which should only take 3hours room very dirty and very cold no heating and breakfast was definitely not edeble cold not even fully cooked. So basically paid for a room for 5hours sleep no breakfast for a £125 rip off sorry
- janet (1/5): Very disappointing and would not recommend it - We didn’t like anything about it when we arrived outside to a run down shabby building We booked it for one night our room was on the third floor of a rundown shabby hotel we declined the room as my partner could not make the stairs they said there was no other rooms available for them to offer us they would not give us our money back while we were having discussions a couple came in looking for a room we said give them our room and he said he couldn’t ?? Which after talking to booking .com he could have easily
- Virginia (3/5): Definitely would not stay or recommend this property - Location We booked 2 rooms both smelled awful and the bathroom was full of mould. The carpet was not fitted and grip rods were exposed, overall very neglected
Unable to upload video to site
- Gary (7/5): -
- Carlie (6/5): - The rooms were okay for a one night stay, however they need refurbishment, as they are dated and some things no longer work.
The staff were friendly and served the purpose for us, as it was a last minute booking.
- Emma (10/5): -
- Michael (9/5): -
- David (7/5): Cheap - Nothing really stood out. The reception area is dire and not that welcoming. The room was OK but the makeover was not executed that well, the windows could benefit from double glazing since the sea view was obscured by condensation.
- RHONDA (5/5): - Food was good and restaurant staff very friendly bathroom cleanliness
- Philip (7/5): -
- Ann (3/5): Very disappointing and felt unwelcoming - The restaurant staff were nice and food was fair, albeit the restaurant was cold. We turned up cold and very wet from a motorbike trip. The room was advertised as 22m2 yet was less than 10m2. There was no hot water for a shower, nor was there soap in the dispensers.
We asked if there was anywhere to hang our soaking gear but the gentleman on reception was very unhelpful and told us we had to hang it in our room - there was no space to do this!
- Solomon (7/5): It was satisfactory -
- Ross (6/5): -
- Yvonne (2/5): - Beautiful location, fast and easy check in and the food was nice. The staff were pleasant and provided a speedy and efficient service.
However it was let down by the rooms which were filthy and covered in cobwebs. Dirty toilet brushes adorned the bathroom, the shower was covered in soap scum and moldy silcone with filthy tiles. The sea view in the room was totally obscured by a large TV sat righ in front of the window. The room was so small you almost hit the bed with the door as you opened it and the bathroom no bigger than a coat cupboard. The matress on the bed was well worn and the pillow cases torn. The towel in the bathroom was threadbare and the curtains were not big enough to cover the window and half hanging from the rail. The windows were filthy which obsecured the beautiful views outside. The door to the bathroom didnt have a lock and was peeling. In the stairwell there were lose cables, torn and dirty caprets and water damage that had grown mushrooms. Not sure there was appropriate fire safety equipment and the wiring looked in need of updating. The wifi was poor and there was a very limited range of TV chanels. The entrance way is covered in weeds and unkempt. The hot tub is located in what can only be described as a bin store, next to the large bin and empty beer barrels, entirely unappealing.
- Jodi (6/5): - We were desperate for a place to stay for the night , otherwise we would have left after visiting the room
The Inn had seen better days
The carpet was dirty , the room felt greasy
A very large tub sat in the bedroom , with 2 large ice buckets - maybe it was once a honeymoon suite ?
The room was advertised for 4 sleepers - it was not. They placed a cot on the floor for our teen son.
The best part of the experience was the morning breakfast , nicely serviced by friendly staff and a hearty breakfast
- Brian (9/5): Would stay again - Staff were knowledgeable and friendly and answered all our queries Spacious and quiet room
- Zoe (8/5): Convenient - Very convenient for an overnight stay before getting the ferry to Islay. Lovely, helpful staff. Rooms comfortable and well equipped. Food good and reasonably priced. Looking a little tired, needs some upgrading. Curtain fell off rail when I drew it.
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Alex (9/5): -
- Davies (8/5): - Very good price nice inside clean good food lovely staff Outside needs a paint and parkin needs orga ised
- Benoit (9/5): Chambre cosy avec lit et salle de bain confortables, petit déjeuner typique et très sympa. - Lit, salle de bain, petit déjeuner, café thé mis a disposition dans la chambre Parking assez plein
- Colin (7/5): -
- Carles (10/5): - Great views to the see in a calm environment
- Thomas (4/5): Disappointing. - Hotel was clean Where to start.. no water pressure at all out of taps
& zero hot water. Hotel room was very dated to say the least, advertised as a sea view room which technically is correct but I’ve saw bigger windows on easyJet! Bathroom had shower rail hanging off wall. Staff albeit friendly had trouble with communication. Food in hotel restaurant was well below average, complained about the mains and waiter just smiled and walked away. Would not recommend or stay again.
- Michael (7/5): - Very friendly waiting staff. Clean and well presented. Food was good.
- Annegret (7/5): -
- GEORGE (8/5): We arrived by small boat via the canal. Very handy as there is a pontoon landing right above the hotel, it was perfect f - Great room and bathroom was excellent. Large shower and decent water pressure. Bed was comfortable. Evening meal was fine and breakfast also very good. Plenty parking. Great value. Appears (visually) rather old and worn but actually a very comfortable stay so nothing to dislike at all
- Majid Ali (10/5): - Excellent hotel to stay in Lochgilphead.. a touch expensive but better compared to other hotels in the area. We had a good stay
- Douglas (10/5): -
- Eileen (8/5): - Although the place does look a bit tired from the outside they have upgraded the rooms. There was a wee bit mold in the shower cubicle but it wasn't too bad. Couldn't fault the breakfast as it was lovely. Will definitely be back.
- David (7/5): Last minute booking as we were held it more than once from Glasgow and missed last ferry from clonaig which was reason f - Clean and tidy Heavy doors leading to room a bit dated
- Shona (3/5): Poorly maintained - doesn't deserve 3 stars - Good location, comfortable bed Dirty windows, curtains stuck on rail, secondary glazing jammed open. Underside of toilet was dirty (possibly sealant), loose hot tap. Bed side lamps not working.
- Gillian (6/5): Pleasant -
- Geoffrey (8/5): Very good -
