Guest Reviews
- Colin (8/5): Very clean and pleasant staff - Very clean but a little worn in places .it was expected for basic price staff were all pleasant and help full home cooked food was excellent . We were a little concerned that there may be a bit of noise from pub but was very quiet . Breakfast left in our room was great idea and good choice with milk and yogurt kept in fridge . Over all very good
- Nicky (8/5): - Used as a base due to friend’s birthday locally. Lovely self contained rooms. Good effort at continental breakfast in the room. Would be nice if the fridge was cold for milk and yogurt though. It felt as if it had only just been put on before we arrived.
Value for money.
- MR DAVID (6/5): - Average accommodation but value for money
- Kelly (10/5): - Staff was helpful and the room was spotless. Very comfortable and cosy, i was very happy with the service, will definitely recommend
- Linda (8/5): - Unfortunately by the time we arrived 14.55 hours the restaurant had stopped serving food. Other than that the service and location was lovely thankyou.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The breakfast was very poor. Noisy fridge inside your wardrobe
- Dean (10/5): Nice rooms - Rooms nice .
- Deborah (6/5): Don't Stay Here If You Like Cleanliness - We knew when we booked cheap that it would not be the Ritz but it was close to where we needed to be and accepted dogs so it fitted our needs. However the wood floor had not been hoovered and was covered in bits. The bathroom was shockingly filthy, not just a little bit. Really dirty. dirt on the walls, scum in the sink, an unclean toilet and minging shower. The beds were tiny and cheap. The minute you sat on them they moved across the floor. The breakfast included was good but we had to listen to the noisy fridge all night. Also it was way to o hot and there was no way of regulating it other than opening the window and listening to the goings on at the pub all night.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I liked the facilities in the room. It was very comfortable and had a good, powerful shower. The only thing that lets it down is that the walls and ceilings are very thin - I was disturbed frequently throughout the night as people came and went and got up to use the loo!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I appreciate this is budget accommodation, but it still should be cleaned fully before accepting new guests.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everyone was so attentive, nothing was not to much trouble. Food was the most Homely I have tasted. Portions were of good size. It was a welcome to find food piping Hot 🔥. The sleeping accommodation was very clean, Double Divan. Kettle coffee or Tea making, Fridge with Milk, Yogurts etc. Cornflakes and Rice Crispes supplied. Bathroom Very Clean, Shower Wc and wash basin.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - External lodges meant any noise from pub was minimal.
The lodge was basic but adequate for our overnight stop. Beds were quite soft for us (but not in a bad condition.)
Breakfast of cereal, juice and a pastry was in the room for us; this suited us as we had to make a prompt start in the morning. A fridge in the room was much appreciated.
We had booked two rooms and we were placed next to each other, which we also appreciated.
We found the pub very noisy at tea time (there was a party on) which discouraged us from eating there.
Overall very good value for money paid.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Liked.....proximity to Bletchley park
Disliked......noise, value, poor maintenance of rooms......bathroom fan and bedside light not working. Filthy duvet
- Valerie (6/5): Budget accommodation, friendly welcome - Sold as budget accommodation and that's what it is. Reasonable value and clean enough. Noisy with pub revellers on a Sat night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff were helpful when i phoned as we could not find them. Sat nav kept taking us to the wrong place. We had a good meal in the bar. Service was excellent.
The room was clean and tidy
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was too warm they lent us a fan but it only helped a little and was extremely loud. The single bed mattress was too uncomfortable to sleep on as the serpentine springs had no padding under the outer cover and as it was so very hot I couldn’t sleep on the duvet either . Otherwise the room was comfortable just went in the heat wave 😏
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I must say that I have nothing negative to say about the Axe and Compass. The check in was easy, the room that I had was very clean and comfortable. That facilities, in the bar were very good, and there was a very good and varied menu, though I must admit I did not eat, as I had already eaten. Another really nice thing about the venue, was the clientele, I was a stranger in the area, and the local clientele engaged with me in conversation, and made my stay all the better. Highly recommend the Axe and Compass, will definitely stay again in the future. Thank you to all in the bar and customers for a great evening.
- Steve (10/5): - Friendly cheap and great value
- dominic (10/5): excellent service - Very friendly and efficient service. When we arrived Hotels.com hadnt selected that we needed a Double bed so the owner quickly swapped it round - next time we will specify it inthe notes.
Food at the pub was very good value and nice and tasty with local butchers meat. Fresh milk in the fridge for breakfast and drinks.
- William (10/5): - A good budget hotel offering good service and value for money. Ideal location for the attractions of the local area. Good choice of food in the restaurant.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We arrived quite late in the evening. I had called ahead and the member of staff was very reassuring and told me not to worry. When we did turn up he was very helpful with checking in and general service
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Very good value for money
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Value for money, bit noisy on Saturdays, but to be expected, it's a good pub for the locals too!
- Mark (6/5): - Ok, for a budget accommodation, was not aware or no cooked breakfast but continental in room was ok.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff were very nice and helpful, I intend staying again when I can
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet and set in a nice village. Staff were very helpful
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Our welcome was very friendly, a real happy stay, thank you
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Yes it was a lovely place the staff were very helpful
- Martin (10/5): Excellent value B&b - Great budget B&b with good rooms and food at a very reasonable price.
Nice bar and plenty of parking.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A very friendly & welcoming pub. Great food & good value.
- WILLIAM (10/5): nice and cheap - nice cheap hotel good food in pub
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Every member of staff was very friendly and the food was exceptional.
- Damien (8/5): - Nice clean rooms, nice location, small but ok for a one night stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Basic room with continental breakfast providing good value for money. Being able to park one's car immediately outside is very reassuring. Menu offered a good range of standard pub fayre at a reasonable price.
- Trevor (8/5): Great stopover - Having planned a trip to see Chartwell House in Kent and Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire, we knew we would need an overnight stopover. We wanted somewhere near Bletchley Park and eventually plumped for the Axe & Compass. What a find! As we drove into the car park, we were not sure we had done right, the car park was full of tradesmen’s vehicles. We walked into the bar near the car park to register and it was full of workmen relaxing, very noisy but full of banter. The person behind the bar gave us the key to the room and told us what was available and that our continental breakfast is in the fridge. Food was available in the restaurant in the evening. The room was compact but comfortable and clean. The shower could do with some TLC to get rid of the mould, but it worked well.
Requiring dinner, we quickly looked around the village to see what else was available but as there was nothing, we entered the restaurant at the Axe & Compass and checked out the menu, which had many choices. We made our selection and settled down to wait for it. After about 30-40 minutes our meals turned up, chicken curry and steak pie and chips. Both dishes were hot and plentiful. My wife had the chicken curry and she informed me that she was eating, yet the rice didn’t seem to be going down. In the end, she ate all the chicken and left about half of the rice. The steak pie came in it’s own dish with a puff pastry hat, to me that is not a pie. It was delicious though. Hope to be back in the future.
- CS (6/5): Room needs updating - Room, especially bathroom, tired and in need of updating. Cold tap loose so needed two hands to operate. Bedding worn but clean. Very comfortable bed, and was happy with fresh milk and continental breakfast provided. Expedia says hairdryer provided but this is not the case
- Steven (6/5): Uncomfy Bed but a nice pub. - The beds were really uncomfortable and our shower was not working correctly, the location was ok for what we wanted, the pub was nice and the lady behind the bar was very nice to organise an iron and ironing board. The breakfast was not a full one and it was continental.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Needed 3 single rooms for a weekend visit to MK. - Basic accommodation offering excellent value for money. Perfectly adequate for our needs. Friendly and welcoming staff. Rooms clean and functional.
- Andy (8/5): Proper pub ,decent food and beer! Good parking! - Glad I chose this place! Good value, Pleasant and helpful staff. Real ale !! Stayed for two nights, Guv'nor bought me a pint! That says how friendly it is ! Unpretentious and approachable! Nice garden for a family stop! Cheers! Andy from Kent!
- Michele (6/5): Beautiful spacious rooms
- Spacious rooms Only one critical point is the room was red hot! No fan or air con so very in comfortable too warm to be able to sleep apart from that the room was spotless with lots of goodies hid in fridge in the room
Bed was so comfortable I wanted to take it home!!
- simon (6/5): - You get what you get , it’s no Hilton but your not paying Hilton prices. For what you pay it’s worth every penny . Clean , pleasant pub feel and competitive price .
- Andrew (8/5): Good for a 1 night stay but no more - It was very hot in the room and it would have been nice to have a fan in the room to cool it a little. Also the breakfast was really what I was expecting - a packet of cornflakes and a prepacked pastry in the fridge!
- Emma (8/5): Reasonable and comfortable - We stayed here as we were attending an event at Silverstone and this was only 30 mins away and reasonably priced. We got there at 1030pm - you can check in up to midnight which is handy. The breakfast which comes with the room is already left for you in the fridge - yes the room has a fridge which makes a change! The room was OK, clean enough - the only downside was that there wasn't a mirror in the main part - I need to do my slap so I don't scare people.....staff were lovely and good value I thought
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good, honest accommodation. - Good "basic" accommodation. Providing all a traveller needs for a budget stay over. Everything you need with friendly service and clean accommodation.
- Sarah Ann (8/5): - We received a friendly welcome had a very nice home cooked lunch. Bed was comfortable but the rooms is 'tired' .
- Verified traveler (6/5): Experience - The room was very clean and tidy, however it was let down by having no signal on the television hence unwatchable and no WiFi available in rooms
- chris (8/5): - Good location, food was great value for money, good service room was in need of redecoration.
- Ann (4/5): Very dirty - The pub, food and service were quite good, very friendly bar staff and owners. We had room 1 it was very dirty looked like it hadn’t had a clean in months. We arrived to late to change hotels at least the bedding was clean. The overall condition of the room was awful, shame as the pub was half decent.
I know it’s a budget hotel, but clean the rooms that cost very little.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice room - Nice room behind the pub, a short taxi ride from town. Nice continental breakfast in the fridge in the room. Full
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very friendly place - Very good, not at all like the poor reviews I had read.
