Guest Reviews
- Susan (4/5): Basic - Room was clean but smelt musty. Shower was hot for 2 minutes then went ice cold and could not get it warm again. Went out and bought fabreze and air fresher but every time we left and came back the smell was still there. Easy and convenient for shops and restaurants.
- Stephen (8/5): - Was really good stay thanks again
- Susan (6/5): - Room was basic but clean. Smells musty, had to buy fabreze and air freshener. Small room with bed and own toilet and shower. Shared kitchen and shower went ice cold after a minute and could not get warm again. Otherwise convenient and handy to where we needed to be.
- Margaret (8/5): - A comfortable stay and we certainly had a room with a view overlooking the Clyde towards the Trossachs. Communal kitchen was clean and useful. Only downside was the shower which was extremely temperamental. Would stay again. Greenock is a really interesting place and public transport is very good.
- James Busby (8/5): A good value place to stay, clean, with helpful st - Good location for me heading west out of Glasgow Airport. I arrived late and severely jet lagged, which meant i ended up forgetting my room number, and ended up sleeping on a couch in one of the communal spaces.
Entirely my fault and sorted by the very understanding caretaker.
- Nigel (10/5): - Fantastic value for money. Warm welcome nothing too much trouble.
- Derek (8/5): - Simple clean room with TV, shower, tea and coffee in the room plus towels. Stayed 2 nights as fixing my flat up ready to move in. Will be back again I hope as it's fine for what I want.
- Brandy L (10/5): - The view from my room was simply spectacular! I loved overlooking the riverfront. Property is right across from grocery store. Property had a shared kitchen on my floor that was very clean with plenty of utensils and amenities. The staff were super polite and helpful with any questions. Would absolutely stay again!!! Walking distance of another shopping area with several stores and restaurants. Right beside a gym and swimming leisure center. Bed was not as comfy in spots, but bedding and pillows made up for it. Nice temperature and roomy otherwise. And did I mention the view?!? Lol it was so great!
- Nicola (8/5): - The room was very basic and tired, but clean. The bed was awful. I had the worst night sleep ever. Well, I hardly slept as I could feel every spring in the mattress digging in to me. Doors slamming shut in the corridors. I wouldn't recommend to anyone as you wouldn't sleep
- Mayank (8/5): - It seems like a student dormitory converted into hotel rooms. So the room and washroom are small. Well at 2 am the fire Alarm rang and we had to go down to the assembly point just to find out that some idiot was probably smoking in the room. Apart from that, worth the price.
- Andrew (6/5): Basic - Location good, bathroom poor very small, shower floor just blue paint, grouting between tiles were starting to go black, water needs to be warmer.
- Roderick (6/5): - Nice views
Close to where i needed to get two
- Somashekar (10/5): - Great place right on beach
- Cenk (10/5): - I liked how close the building is to the harbour and to the retail centre.
- Jamie (10/5): - Check in was easy , host was very friendly , room was basic and clean , close to shops and town centre , for the price the room was great value
- Pamoda (8/5): - Good value for the price paid. The location is ideal — very close to Greenock railway station and right across from the beach. It’s a quiet and lovely area, perfect for a walk. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable.
The property has a spacious shared kitchen and dining area, with a window facing the beach. We really enjoyed having a peaceful dinner with a view.
The only downside was the bathroom. It was quite small, and the shower was fixed high on the wall. The height couldn't be adjusted, and the water pressure was very strong, which made it uncomfortable. Very difficult to take a wash.
Aside from the shower, everything else was great.
- Cenk (10/5): - It was a quiet place to have a good night's sleep.
- laura (6/5): A cheap stay - A basic stay for an early start ti the airport. Very cheap riom and you get what you pay for
- Tjames (8/5): - Clean comfortable and helpful staff
- Peter (2/5): - Very little warm water to shower.Only got a minute before water ran cold. The Tv couldn't receive a signal. Mainly due to the inside aerial which sat on the windowsill and the terrible draughts coming through the window. The end of the bed was so close to the wardrobe making it difficult to get into the wardrobe. I could list other problems but I am sure you get the gist. Needless to say I would not recommend that anyone use this accommodation. By far the worst accommodation that I ever stayed in
- paul (10/5): - Warm. Tidy and quiet.
- Sarah (8/5): - It was value for money clean but basic was all we needed.
- Nathaniel (8/5): - Very warm welcome at reception and lovely view
- Tracey (10/5): - The guest house is a lovely place to stay right on the river beautiful views, lovely and clean, looks a bit run down but was very surprised when went in the room. Bed very comfortable .
- Thomas (10/5): - For the price you pay well worth it clean tidy with the nice little extras
- michael (10/5): Great for a quick stopover - Great place for a quick stopover close to the station and places to eat
- Val (10/5): - Cheap , cheerful - lovely comfy bed . Snug accommodation so make sure you like who you’re sharing with ! Well worth the booking
- Viki (10/5): - Exactly as described, well worth the price and bed was super comfy! We had a great night sleep, and was lovely knowing we had secure parking where we could leave car in the day and explore on foot
- Neil (8/5): Cheap and cheerful! - Good, basic accommodation in a convenient location on the waterfront - fine for an overnight stop or for contractors working in the area. Each former student flat has a kitchen and the rooms are en suite.
- Carolyn (8/5): - My room was cosy, had tea and coffee making facilities, a warm, clean and comfortable bed, a heater if i needed it and a wonderful view. The shower wasnt the best but the water from the sink was always hot. The staff were friendly and helpful.
- Allan (8/5): - Very good value for money
- Kellina (2/5): - This is a detention center-esque like guesthouse, not a hotel. The room is extremely cramped and furnished with what I would liken to an old springy RV mattress (short and extremely uncomfortable). The heater doesn't put out enough heat to warm the room and it shuts off automatically every two hours. The "en-suite bathroom" is something similar to an institutional shower that floods onto the floor and doesn't dry (was still wet 14 hours later after my shower). This was particularly fun when I had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and step onto freezing cold water. The hot (read warm) water in the shower only ran for about 5 minutes before turning cold - which was problematic in my already cold room. I had to sleep in thermal gear and a sweatshirt due to the heater issue. I could hear almost everything happening around me, including other people banging loudly on doors and walls at all hours. I had to check out early and book another stay closer to Glasgow for peace of mind and rest.
If you do choose to stay and don't have UK cell service find a way to alert them you are coming and when. Despite the office saying it was open I had to call someone to come down and check me in.
- Bill (4/5): No thanks - The shower, were poor. The room was cramped. The quilt was to small. The heating was poor.
- Clare (4/5): Lovely staff. Basic inside - Nice comfy but small bed. Very clean bedding and towels. Staff lovely.
Building inside VERY basic
- Martin (6/5): - You get what you pay for, and for this price it is good. Where the place is situated I was convenient for what I wanted.
The people in adjoining room need to think that playing music til 4.30am isn’t really on but at least isn’t wasn’t loud loud.
Overall a pleasant place to lay your head.
- Debbie (10/5): - If you’re expecting the Ritz, this isn’t for you. Clean, warm, ensuite, comfy bed and safe with 3 locked doors to get to your room. Staff were lovely and really helpful.
- Andrew (4/5): Cheap for a Reason - Toilet door had large hole in it. No soap to wash with. Odd cups. Shower dirty and requires updating. Been here before, returned but no improvement. Very poor ex student accomodation.
- Liz (10/5): Great place to stay for those on a smaller income - I booked in an hour early as I had arranged to meet someone before proper book in time. The room was bright and clean very nice. Tea and coffee making facilities always a plus. Toilet and shower very clean.
Perfect view across the clyde
An excellent place to stay.
- DANNY (10/5): Home - Perfect stay John was great quiet stay
- Mick (10/5): - Very accommodating for an emergency early check in. Especially like to thank David, extremely helpful
- Martyn (8/5): Perfectly adequate for the price. - If you are expecting 5* luxury then this might not be the place for you. However if just a quick stopover it’s not too bad at all. The rooms are functional and I personally found the bed very comfortable. This is a basic room at a value price, if you are paying for a cheap room, then expect a cheap room. Personally it was fine both price wise and comfort wise and for an overnight stay I would use again.
- Armanda (10/5): - Nice place, staff was very friendly, shopping store near by
- Neville (10/5): - Nice place right near the waterfront and easy walking distance to shops and town
- John (6/5): Cheap comfortable - Quick overnight staybasic but comfortable.
Hard to control shower temp on top floor
- Alan (8/5): - Had a nice one night stay here to break up the long journey back home, very clean, friendly staff and great value for money, loved the views over the River Clyde, next time i visit family in Dundee i will definitely come back for another night stay.
- Elana (8/5): - Very good value for money. Basic accommodation
but clean. Situation on the river bank with lovely views, nearby a place for eating and drinking looking out onto the river.. Supermarket opposite accommodation.
- Sheena (6/5): Quick overnight stop - The accommodation was originally student blocks. The building is a typical student block, with 5 rooms to a flat, shared kitchen, each room has its own en-suite shower room. The shower room is very dated as is the room. Basic furniture and decor. Bed was comfortable, linen clean and fresh as were the towels. The warden person was very friendly and helpful. Was a quick overnight stop and the room served it purpose fine.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Find somewhere else to stay! - Ok, so this was supposed to be just a place to put our heads on a road trip and to be fair, it was cheap but even cheap you do expect a minimum standard and this just failed to meet any. Awful, filthy block, room had whitewashed brick walls, cheap furniture, bathroom was an old, filthy thing from the 70's. The only plus points were free parking and the bed did have mattress and pillow protectors on so gave 2 stars just for that! If I hadn't been ill when I arrived I would have left and gone elsewhere. As it was, we got there late, slept and left 1st thing, preferring to wait til our next stop for a shower (just couldn't bare to put myself in that shower!) We have been on a road trip for two weeks, travelling from Midlands to Scotland, NI and east coast and I can say this was by far the worse accommodation (and before anyone asks, was the same price exactly to one other we stayed in, which did meet basic standards).
- Saulius (2/5): - Terrible.
Stay away of this property...
When we arrived, we found bedding was in terrible condition. I looked like someone already been there. Toilet did stink, shower wet - looked like just someone been there. And, we could not get refund, bec they provided video, which staff did after our leaving.
Would not recommend it...
- Massimo (10/5): - Great value for money and great view of the Clyde
- Lillie (6/5): - It was ideal for a couple of nights, but the shower wasn’t ideal as the water overflowed into the whole of the bathroom, the temperature control was quite poor too as it was either freezing cold or boiling hot.
- Massimo (10/5): - had a wonderful time
- andrew (10/5): - Was all good
- steen (8/5): - Was accessible, nice area. No complaints
- Skye (6/5): - The property was more of a rooming hotel. There were lots of rooms and good security with passcodes and keys and the night was quiet but there are no frills. There is a shared kitchen if you want to cook. You have your own washroom with a shower and clean linen and towels were provided. The area has lots of opportunity for fishing off the boardwalk. There is a pool nearby. It is great if you are a sign guy and just want a place to rest your head or a couple needing a stopover but we didn't really get to know the town. Make sure you check in during the specified times because the office isn't always open and the caretaker seems to live onsite.
- Karl (4/5): - Directions to find confusing but when I did get there the elderly gent who greeted me was a gent. This man needs a pay rise as he is constantly working.
Room was very basic but the bed was surprisingly comfy and had a good night's sleep.
People booking do need to be aware of the below though.
1. Room doors constantly opening and closing, squeak badly and the corridor door is just as bad. Experienced most nights of these creaking and banging until 11pm.
2. Shared kitchen is a joke, advertised all you need is there. I spent 3 days opening all the cupboards and drawers to find nothing there. No plates, no cups and no glasses.
3. Front door warped and you either have to yank it open or kick it closed, otherwise block is unsecured.
4. Do not expect wallpaper as rooms are basically breeze block painted white and you can hear the bloke below cough and the one above peeing.
5. If you are a female smoker then I suggest taking a club with you as most nights the mice/rats run amok in the car park.
Plus point is there is a Lidl across the road for alcohol.
For those few idiots that want to moan the price is cheap, standards are there for all accomodation and we expect more.
- Margaret (10/5): Great value - These apartments are great value accommodation right in centre of Greenock. Old student accommodation but staff are friendly and helpful. Small rooms but with en-suite and tea coffee in room. Would stay again
- Asif (8/5): - Considering this is a 2 star accomodation and the amount we paid, we are happy with the room, cleanliness and internet. Do not expect any room service or dine in facilities. Location is good, has an excellent view to river Clyde.
- K (10/5): - A great place to stay in the heart of Greenock. I even had a sea view. What's not to like?
- robert (8/5): - Room a bit smelly and in poor condition public areas very smelly and run down luckily only staying one night only plus point is it’s cheap
- VICTOR (8/5): - The location is great with walk way along the river and it is closer to most shops for those that fancy home made food. Lots of parking space and it is secure.
Notwithstanding, the Wifi was rubbish. Perhaps this was just something unusual because I told the staff, that I could not use the wifi due to low strength and constant disconnection.
- Christopher (8/5): Thanks for early check in - Older style building
Steep steps
Very warm and cosy
Smaller room
Nice comunial kitchen
Thanks for allowing an early check in after a overnight ferry crossing from Ireland
- Martha (10/5): - Really surprised that it was so nice . Definitely will stay here again.
- Jack (10/5): - Liked everything.
- Gordon (10/5): Good night sleep - Booked at the last minute because a friend was staying in overnight at hospital. Found the bed to be super comfortable after a long day and room was nice and warm too. Good powerful shower too and was a great price. Glad I found this place when I did and would happily stay here again.
- Geoffrey (6/5): - Basic accommodation ideal for worker needing digs. No frills but ok and clean
- Zaneta (10/5): - Lovely room close to the sea and shopping centre
- Jim (6/5): - Great place for an overnight stay. Basic, clean, comfortable room with free parking with easy access to local amenities.
- John (10/5): - The two staff in the office made us so welcome. I have been back about 6/7 times as we are so happy with it. We'll keep coming back.
- Elidon (2/5): - I could not sleep at this property!
I was late, coming from London.
Receptionist called around 11pm, said I can’t come in. She said it was written somewhere in website.
Likely I had a friend otherwise I would have slept in the car!!
So from my experience, never again I wil book or I would recommend to anyone.
- Craig (2/5): - Upon my arrival I noticed several dirty mattresses casually stacked in one corner of the car park. I also noticed that the car park hadn't seen a broom, weed brush, pressure wash or general spruce up in approximately one maybe two decades.
Once i had collected my key from the office transported straight out of 1984 (like the car park hadn't received a spruce up in many decades). I was shown to my room, via a couple of PIN controlled doors similar to, I'd imagine, you'd find in a budget cut prison. Up the Baltic temperature, painted blockwork & colour barren staircase I was shown my room. In which the man (was never given a name, position or even a welcome for that matter) switched on my electric radiator. This was a nice touch had the room not been close to matching the temperature outside (3.5 degrees centigrade by my cars temperature display). I ask why was this heater not switched on an hour or so before my check-in?
Next port of call was the bathroom, having completed a 6 and a half hour drive with only a single stop...now at this point I didn't really want to touch the door handle, to the bathroom, due to me spotting something. There was a brown / red smudge about the size of a pinky nail. Now was this dried blood (a possibility) or was it fecal matter.... i didn't want to find out. Gingerly I opened that door, without touching my new friend smudgy, and was greeted by a wc, sink & shower actually lifted from a prison with someone else's hair all over the sink & Soap!
- Emma (10/5): Great little place with lovely view - The rooms were clean, comfortable and the staff were lovely. It was in an ideal location. Would definitely recommend this place
- Oluwaseun (10/5): - Very good for the price. Home away from home
- Kenneth (6/5): - The room was pretty basic - bare breeze block walls even inside for instance. The bathroom was very small and cramped. The communal kitchen was quite smelly although clean. The mattress was quite uncomfortable and the sheet on the bed was very worn and bobbly. I think the property is former student accommodation and it shows. However it was very cheap compared to other local accommodation and it was relatively clean and warm, so can't complain too much. It's OK if you just want a room to sleep in for the night.
- Steven (10/5): - People standing out side window at 05.30 yapping and being noisy
- Maryam (10/5): - Very clean place and nice view
- Lisa (10/5): Already booked for another visit - Great location & price
- Sarah A R (10/5): - As always after many stays, comfortable Room, pleasant staff, peaceful and comfortable room
- Massimo (10/5): - great stay
- Massimo (10/5): - Great stay
- Bryan (8/5): - Views were exceptional.
- Massimo (10/5): - Great stay
- John (8/5): Nice location apartment with an attentive caretake - The room was clean, only down fall for me was uncomfortable mattress. Location was good. Would have loved the sea view window but there were none left. Was nice to sit on the bench outside and take in the sea view and watch the cruise ships docking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Value for money. - Basic student accommodation, conveniently sited. Staff were friendly and helpful. Worth what I paid.
- Maryellen (8/5): Good value for money - Just as expected. Cheap and cheerful. After all its only a base and somewhere to put down your head. Bedding and towels were clean. Room was a decent size. TV and tea making facilities were available. Free parking on site. Would go back again.
- Steven (8/5): All good - Everything ok but bed was very uncomfortable
- Scott (8/5): - Good and inexpensive accommodations for a one night stay. Small but clean room.
- James (10/5): - Good value for money spent
- Sarah (10/5): - Staying at the Waterfront is very convenient for me, it's so close to all amenities I need and more,, Our room was Clean and comfortable, I've stayed here 5 times in 5 months This year, I can come and go as I please,
Security and CCTV coverage is great.
I get a peaceful night's sleep there, I've arrived later in evenings without any problems, Always to pleasant and welcoming Staff, Great value on the price to stay at the Waterfront.
- Jayasaegaran (8/5): - It's a simple room, very reasonably priced and ideal for long stays.
- David (6/5): - You get what you pay for. Generally dirty and not convinced the bed sheets were washed. Cheap though
- Paul (10/5): - Nice wee room for 1 nite overstay
- Ian (6/5): Good location for one night, felt like a hostel - Location was great by the waterfront and walking distance to local shops, initially struggled to find the car park but after going back into the booking confirmation and following the link to directions we got there fine. Shown to the room and how to get in, separate code combinations for main entrance and access to the landing where our room was. A guy from the room next to us knocked on our door saying he moved in the day before and asked us to let him know if our shower was ok as his doesn’t stay hot (ours was fine), could hear him talking to himself in his room (walls maybe not well sound insulated) - from this got the impression it may also be used a kind of hostel accommodation. We went out and returned later, on entering the main hallway could smell weed, went to our room and was all quiet but we tip toed and didn’t put tv on incase next door knocked again. Slept fine, room clean enough, walls were just painted breeze blocks, plenty of tea/coffee available for in the morning. For one night away when visiting the area it was ok and for the price you can’t really complain. Speaking to local friends the building is also used for university students to stay and some rooms available for guests like us booking through hotels.com. I’m happy with basic accommodation, literally my only concern was that my first impression from inside was of a hostel. Otherwise ideal location and we got out safely so it was fine.
- Behrad (2/5): - At midnight, the hotel's alarm bells were activated for a long time. And we all woke up, the hot shower was cold every three minutes, there was not even a single shampoo
- Janet-Avril (10/5): Perfect accommodation - Perfect - warm, clean, quiet and convenient for facilities. Good value for money - would recommend!!
- Harry (8/5): - It's a basic bedroom and toilet with a shower. No frills but if you want a cheap overnight stay for one or two nights and you're not fussy it's just the job. Really convenient for the town and station. I would stay again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The toilet could not be flushed. The bed linen was not changed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): You get what you pay for - You get what you pay for friendly staff timely check in free parking excellent view from the room i booked it was quiet room had got everything you needed
- Megan (4/5): - Bedding seemed clean but rest of room could use a serious going over. Shower did not work. Were only there one night while passing through, and for the price I didn't have high expectations, but would not stay there again.
- Rueben (4/5): 'Room' for improvement. - Disappointing. Only the friendly and efficient care taker saved the place. Situated in a spectacular place so pity the overall service. 35/40 minutes away from Glasgow centre. Shopping centre close by. Rooms very small, bathroom not clean, curtains barely hanging.
