• AzlanRR (9/5): - This hotel is beautiful, they have done a great job with the aesthetics and the vibe. The gardens are beautiful and the restaurant is Devine and the food is great. The rooms are well appointed, they really tried to go for a modern feel, beds are super comfy and they give you 4 pillows which was a dream. BREAKFAST!

• Citra Andriany (8/5): Okay.. - We were staying at the new building. I love the Japanese vibes, the tatami bed was so comfortable. The room size was just enough. Shower pressure was satisfying. Breakfast was so poor. Personally, I always consider hotel breakfast as one of the staycation experience. Breakfast needs to wonderful, both taste and variety. Kalang Ulu failed to deliver that. Breakfast really really needs to be improved, considering the price we pay. Staffs also need more training in hospitality.

• Danielle (8/5): Top, heerlijke oase van rust in Berastagi - Hotel was wat vervreemdend, zit in een achteraf, vies straatje in het enorm drukke, chaotische Berastagi. Gebouw lijkt aan de buitenkant wel een oude, verlaten fabriek, dacht dat ik fout zat..maar zodra je door de poort komt..supermooi aangelegde tropische binnentuin, met receptie en ontbijtterras. Daar tegenover groot nieuw gebouw met nieuwe kamers, met erbovenop een superhit restaurant met dakterras met uitzicht over de stad. Kamers hebben wat onderhoud nodig, stoffig..maar heerlijk bed, zelfde stijl ingericht als restaurant. Restaurant was heerlijk, life muziek op zaterdag/zondag. Mooi ingericht met overal lampen, zie foto’s. Ook complimenten voor de gids/chauffeur van het hotel, Awan. Zeer kundig, veel ervaring. Zijn met hem de vulkaan op geweest Niks, behalve onderhoud kamers/badkamer
• Amelia (7/5): So close to being exceptional - This hotel is beautiful, they have done a great job with the aesthetics and the vibe. The gardens are beautiful and the restaurant is Devine and the food is great. The rooms are well appointed, they really tried to go for a modern feel, beds are super comfy and they give you 4 pillows which was a dream. The location is a 20 minute walk from main street brestagi which tbh isn't a mad thing. I liked it as a little oasis to prepare for my hike up the mountain and R&R. There's a great restaurant a 5 minute walk away and there was heaps of stuff really close by. This hotel is so close to being a luxury western standard hotel but where they miss out of the cleanliness of the rooms. They need to scrub the bathrooms with a bottle of bleach and just pay that extra bit of care on them. The rest of the areas are so clean it's just a shame they miss this part. It's very perplexing because you walk around the place thinking this hotel is one of the best but then the bathroom especially is a colossal let down. That being said the standard isn't too bad for travelling Sumatra. Whilst other hotels may be cleaner they are far more basic so I guess that's the pay off.

Het restaurant heeft wel lekkere koffie (waarom geen ontbijt voorzien in het restaurant???) Het ontbijt en zeer slechte koffie. Het geluid van buiten en naast liggende kamer kwam volledig binnen in onze kamer
• GERARD (4/5): below average for Indonesia - staff were excellent. design was better than expected. breakfast was below average. choice of food was very limited. even when compared to cheaper hotels we stayed in earlier in the trip. walls were paper thin coz we could hear everything outside of our room. no black out curtains so u can't sleep in and we suspect the neighbouring building could see into our room on the 2nd floor.

The onsite restaurant was booked for an event. We didn't have a car so there really was no alternatives for us in regards to food. Breakfast was not great.

• ASYIRAH (9/5): Beautiful and calm place - The concept. Arrived at night and you can see the brightest place at the corner. The only brightest place at that area. Very calm and peaceful. The room very spacious. It comes with a beautiful balcony. The bed also big can fit to 3. Shower area as im not quite comfortable with the stones there.
• Dr. Yenny (5/5): Only the restaurant is satisfying. - Restaurant The room was not properly cleaned, tidied and prepared when we checked in, especially the curtain was messy, the floor was sticky, no towels provided until we requested it. The handsoap, soap and shampoo were empty and were not refilled until we checked out eventhough we already requested it. The corridor was dirty with garbage in front of each room. No phone provided in the room to contact the management, we have to use our own mobile. The breakfast was very hectic and most of the foods and drinks run quickly and took time to refill, as well as foodware. The plates, spoons, fork were wet. The space (table) was limited. It was like 'breakfast war' we did not enjoy the time at all during the breakfast. The landscape and surrounding had less maintenance, seems the buildings and the whole compound were built without proper plan. It was packed and lack of ventilation and natural light. Security control is weak, what is the point having keypass tap for the elevator while anyone can access the rooms from the ramp. I also found out my door can be opened from outside without tapping the passcard.
• Claudio (5/5): - Nice setup and restaurant, spacious Bathroom is very rundown. Hard to comunicate with the staff in english. Not well catered for non-indinesian guests.
• Sophie (2/5): Not coming back again - The staf at the reception were kind Our room was very dirty. Stains on the blanket, a lot of noice, door of the balkony coudn’t close, the bathroom was also not clean, breakfast had very limited choice.

• Erik (7/5): Prima plek voor één overnachting - Het hotel zelf is ontzettend mooi gemaakt. Prachtig aangekleed met veel hout en groen. Het prachtige hotel sloot niet aan bij de beleving van het verblijf. Op veel fronten amateuristisch en onaf.

• wiling (8/5): - suasananya tenang dan nyaman , arsitekturnya unik , terasa asri untuk spot foto sangat bagus, rooftop nya juga bagus sekali makanan di rooftop juga enak enak meskipun agak mahal tapi ya sepadan dengan pemandangan yang disuguhkan yang juga tak kalah menarik perhatian abang yang urus parkir ada itu salah satu yang suaranya sangat khas dan sabar dalam mengatur kenderaan yang keluar masuk dari kejauhan juga bisa mendengar suaranya hehe sarapannya kurang banyak pilihannya dan rasanya juga tidak begitu pas di lidah. Awalnya saya pesan kamar deluxe bagus sih kamarnya karena saya ingin lanjut menginap lagi tapi sudah tidak ada kamar jadi saya sambung menginap di kamar superior sungguh jauh berbeda sekali yang disuguhkan kalau untuk luas dan interiornya ok lah kita maklum secara harga emang lebih murah tapi setidaknya dapat air mineral dong ini sama sekali tidak ada juga teko masak air juga tidak tersedia , bahkan TV nya tidak berfungsi... soal TV dikamar deluxe juga cuma ada 1 chanel.

• ANDY (5/5): A hotel with potential, but need good professional maintenance overall. - Location, rooftop restaurant is nice and has a beautiful view ! Overall style of the hotel, garden and lobby area are quite cool. Cleanliness of room is not thorough at all. Toilet and washroom floor was not cleaned. Open area on each floor not being cleaned daily (tissue has been left for a couple of days). Press on faucet design is not practical and caused the whole bathroom table and my own clothing to be wet whenever I switch it on/off. Also the constant wetting of the table caused mildew behind the sink. The shower floor is not levelling down toward the drainage... instead collecting water near the door, and causing flooding on the bathroom floor. Hope to see improvement in all the above and a more professional/ trained staffs.

• Zhenting (9/5): The hotel is much above expectation and well worth the price. - The location is good. Right at the center of berastagi. There is an impressive garden at the ground door which feel like walking in a tropical forest. Every corner of the hotel is well decorated to detail and in a nature style. The room is clean. The double bed is super big even for two persons. I am surprised to find such a nice hotel in a small town like berastagi and at such a reasonable price. The only inconvenience is it takes a few minutes before the hot water became hot. But considering the hotel is in the mountain area this is acceptable.
• TravelingTine (4/5): Nicht zu empfehlen - Nichts Das Hotel Kalang Ulu ist nicht zu empfehlen. Es ist sehr hellhörig (also laut), dreckig, Frühstück ist auch so eher semi vorhanden. Das liegt nicht nur am Zimmer….das ganze Hotel ist so.
• Justin Lim (9/5): Lovely Place to Stay & Good Value for money! - Hotel Lobby was very well furnished in the traditional Indonesian style with plenty of wooden and natural furnishing. Room was of a large size and tastefully decorated with a big balcony outside with lovely scenery of the countryside. Overall we find the hotel to be of good value for money for the price we pay. One of the best hotel in Berastagi. The Roof Top Restaurant was a good place to eat and relax in beautiful surrounding with nice views. Breakfast was very basic and not to our expectation for the money we pay. The range of food provided can be improved.
