Guest Reviews
- Mark (10/5): - Clean and good service. Great location next to marina. I met a cute dog at check in too.
- Lee (8/5): - I liked the fresh fruit bowl at breakfast.
- Jayne (10/5): Solo stay - Both Stephen’s dad & lad always look after every detail and always make you feel welcome. The hotel is perfectly situated and the sea view room that was upgraded to is fabulous. This was my second stay and highly recommend it.
- Patricia (10/5): - My room with a view was so worth it I'd like the same again. Thanks Stephen and Jake for being so helpful.
- Eleanor (2/5): - We did not stay because the lift was out of order and I’m unable to climb up to 4flights of stairs. We waited 3hours for an engineer to arrive At 6pm we decided to go home assured we would be refunded. We are waiting for a refund.
- Shaz (10/5): - Lovely relaxing stay great breakfast will stay again
- Susan (10/5): - Lovely view of marina from our upper floor room. Convenient lift if needed.
Good breakfast. Quick & easy.

The guests were friendly.
The Bed and Breakfast accommodation was great.

- Caroline (10/5): Wonderful stay in wonderful accomodation provided - The room had a lovely view over the marina and was well looked after.
The continental breakfast was well stocked and the stay at our accomodation was really relaxing made even easier by the owners who looked after us who were very friendly snd welcoming. If you're disabled also this hotel is greatceith a lift to all floors enabling wheelchair access
Only problem is no diabled ramp but rails attached to help access.
- Steven (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay with friendly and helpful staff. We had a great view of the harbor and a very good breakfast.
- paul (10/5): - great place to stay
- Linda (6/5): - The property had stunning views. Outside area was good. Staff were helpful, friendly and accommodating . Breakfast was good bad continental option. Issue with bathroom facilities, though resolved promptly moving to new room.
- IAIN (4/5): Disappointing - Nobody around when we arrived to check in.
Room very small with a view onto an unattractive courtyard/adjacent building.
Almost every floorboard squeaked when you walked on it and there was quite a lot of noise from the room above, not because the people were noisy; just the noise of people moving around and the floor squeaking, the sound of doors opening and closing etc.
Beds not particularly comfortable.
Shower room had fixtures falling off wall.
Floor of shower/wet room area was a laminate not suited for the purpose; it felt spongy as if whatever was underneath had rotted due to water leaking through.
Superficially, the decor throughout was attractive, fresh and modern.
Overall, our stay was disappointing. It could be a lot better if proper attention was given to some aspects.
- Sophie (10/5): Perfect location - Lovely break away , tasty continental breakfast
- Linda (10/5): - Julie was so friendly and lovely. The rooms were spotlessly clean, comfortable and modern and the location and view was amazing
- Anthony (8/5): - Nicely located next to the sea walk in Bangor. Easy walking distance to many shops and pubs. Nice selection of foods for breakfast. Mattresses need upgrading to something that you can't feel the springs through.
- Mark (2/5): No refund - No refund given after given plenty of notice
- Karl (10/5): - Very close to marina and city centre. Quiet. Very friendly and helpful staff. A very relaxing stay.
- Stuart (10/5): Beautiful lodge with stunning views. - Booked this for my parents. They absolutely loved it. They didn’t get breakfast but said it was croissants etc not sure if this is correct. Know my parents would have loved a fry but they overall LOVED their stay and definitely will be staying again. They loved the area outside for bbq and drinks and will be back to make use of this for definite
- Paul (8/5): - Great location, beautiful views.
- Josh (10/5): - Great place to stay - great and welcoming staff
- John (2/5): - Mix up in the booking. They didn't let us stay cause at 4 kids with us. Put us out on the street. We had to go home as we were at a funeral that day
- Karl (10/5): - I had a room that was very cozy and felt very much at home. My room also had a great view overlooking the waterfront and the marina. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- Stephanie (8/5): Great Hospitality and Warm Welcome - Julie gave a warm welcome and very accommodating. Wanted to support a local independent hotel, not a chain. This therefore had a homely feel with extra touches. Thank you Julie for your hospitality and will definitely return.
- Laura (10/5): 10/10 - 10 out of 10. Got a beautiful room on the top floor overlooking the marina, so peaceful and quiet. Had a really good night's sleep. The room has been recently decorated in neutral tones and with a nod to a suitably nautical theme, and the sofa was a welcome bonus to watch the world go by. The bath was also a bonus for after a trek around the coastal path. If you get caught out with a spell of bad weather, they have smart tvs with just about every streaming service on there. I also appreciated the fresh fruit salad at the continental breakfast.
- abbie (8/5): - Comfy stay, good location, friendly staff, free parking out front. Cute old place, old style maintained with modern comforts added.
The WC had a few random sounds but was clean and not all of the window blinds stayed closed which would be worth fixing to block out street lights on front of building.
A strong smell of cigarette smell upon entering building, unfortunately for those allergic/bothered, which I hope was a one-off. Otherwise staff was extremely nice, friendly, and attentive. Slept well.
I'd stay here again.
- Rodrigo (10/5): Great hotel and Kind staff - The hotel is Amazing, the staff is very kind and there is a good continental breakfast.
The city is beautiful, there are many good restaurants around the hotel.
- Aleena (10/5): - Highly recommend
- Shane (10/5): - Excellent stay
- Jenny (10/5): Amazing - Amazing place, beautiful rooms, very welcoming rhe scenery from our room was beautiful i would give 10/10 and will definitely be back
- Jim (10/5): - Beautiful view out of our window. Very friendly staff. Perfect place to stay to take the train to Titanic museum. Nice breakfast!
- Margaret (8/5): - Very clean, good breakfast, excellent sea view. Bed a little too soft and smaller than expected (double, not queen) but enjoyed our short stay. Staff extremely helpful and friendly
- Susan (6/5): - The room was very small which is okay except that there was no surface to put luggage on.
There was an elevator in the building but many steps to get into the building so not really very accessible.
Breakfast was fabulous!
A nice spot on the harbour but our room had no view.
- HEATHER (10/5): - Liked the cleanliness of my room. travelled alone and loved the long walks and convenient transport.
- Sandra (10/5): - The guest house is in a beautiful location opposite the marina.
The hosts are really friendly and welcoming and go above and beyond to make your stay a memorable one.
Well placed for exploring the town and also for transport links.
We would definitely recommend 👌
- Michelle (10/5): - Lovely an clean, nice staff, good breakfast
- Derkie (4/5): - We have booked for 2 days. The property has no sound proofing. You can hear banging of doors patrons talking from other rooms. The location of the lodge is in the dead partnof Bangor, street litter, dog feces I've seen is frequent. Boarded establishments... Astala Guest house is clean and the owners are by default hospitable and nice.
- Harold (10/5): - Astala Guesthouse is a well-organized property that our group enjoyed during our stay in Bangor. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to ensure we were having the best experience. Thank you.
- Kwai (10/5): Close to the sea shore. Nice B&B - Nice stay. Very convenient and have a lift. The room was clean and good. Near the sea shore.
- Zoyla (6/5): - Quick stay in Bangor, was what we needed. View of the marina was great in the morning.
- Catherine (10/5): - Absolutely gorgeous Guest House. We had a room on the top floor with a beautiful view of the marina. There was a lovely seating area at the front and br3akfast was really nice. We will definitely be back.
- Maureen (4/5): - In good location
Decoration carpets etc all very good
Be very careful when booking that you get the room you think you have booked for. Web site shows a lovely big room we were shown i to a small poky room
Moved to a another room which wad a bit bigger told view over the rooftops appealing!!.
Breakfadt hood i gredients what was offeted but no vooked breakfadt. If i had k own i was paying £120 for a small poky room with no cooked breakfadt i would definitely have gone somewhere else
- gary (10/5): - Friendly lovely staff
- Verified traveler (6/5): No frills, but clean and friendly. - A disappointing start, as room wasn't ready at 2pm check-in, although it was by 2.15pm. We were also advised of a fault with the lift, which was waiting repair, this was carried out around 9ish our first evening. The room was clean, although the ensuite was rudimentary and clearly adapted for wheelchair access (we didn't ask for this facility). A locked connecting door with another room meant we could clearly hear the conversations of other guests. The electric shower was temperamental and didn't retain it's heat or flow. We did report this on the first morning, and it was checked, however, the problem continued throughout our stay. The wall mounted TV was too high and there was no seating (apart from the bed) in the room. A single chair was brought to our room. Continental breakfast was good - fresh fruit and qood quality yoghurts.
- Mary Ann (10/5): - The hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful hotel - We enjoyed our stay here. We had a superior double room with beautiful views of the marina. The room was large and clean, the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and had a tub/shower combination. Breakfast was good. Service was very helpful and friendly. We stayed over a Sunday night. The noise from the bar area kept us awake until it settled down.
- ALBERT ZINYAMA (10/5): - Neat and marvellous place. Steven, a staff member went out his way to ensure my stay was comfortable.
- Nicole M (10/5): - The Astana Guesthouse was such a cute property in a great location right off the marina. The room was cozy and bright and was perfect for our needs.
- Gisele (6/5): - We loved the view. The staff was terrific. However, the room was very small and so very hot, even with the one window open. We asked for a fan and got one, but it just moved the hot air around. There seemed to be underfloor heating which was always on. The bed was a soft mattress on top of a boxspring; not ideal.
- Shauna (10/5): View, view, view - Gorgeous view, friendly hosts, great stay.
- Natalie (10/5): - Everything we expect, Julie is amazing, Overalls visit was friendly and welcoming
- Richard (10/5): We will return - The hotel was beautifully decorated staff was extremely friendly, helpful, the rooms where perfect and well maintained, plenty of choice for breakfast, close to the Marina.
Definitely coming back
- Neil (10/5): - Very nice homely hotel. lovely area. such a warm welcome from the owners
- Wayne (10/5): - Very nice. Locality just right , lovely view. Fish and chips, really good.
- bill (6/5): - Toilet wS not fixed to floor no irish breakfast
- Sally (10/5): Lovely place - Lovely place. Very helpful to guests. Would stay again.
- CARYNE (10/5): - Beautiful guesthouse with delightful, helpful, hosts.
- Barry (10/5): - Excellent, very friendly owners, served my ideal breakfast.
I would very happily return.
- stephen (8/5): - Only problem was the , really noisy bathroom, ever when water running, the noise would have woke the hole house ,other than that was great
- Sam (10/5): - Julie was amazing! The stay was great and the shower was hot and had great pressure
- kieran (10/5): A Great Stay - A great place to stay and we were really well looked after by the staff.A beautiful room looking onto the Marina with a comfortable bed, couldn't ask for more. Thanks once again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Just a few things to improve- had just two quarter - Convinient site with excellent restaurants arounds. Nice view
- Viorelia (10/5): Perfection - We had an amazing stay, the view 🔥🔥🔥 and the way the owners treated us made us feel like home 10/10
- Tracey (8/5): Winter stay - Very friendly and helpful couple. Great location & clearly have recently refurbished a lot of the building. Lounge and bar area was good.
Toilet didn’t flush well & they fixed quickly. Small but adequate room. Continental breakfast. I would suggest a couple of minor improvements - more comfortable pillows, tv remote that works, perhaps some filter coffee at breakfast instead of instant.
- Adrian (10/5): - Everything nive and smooth!
- Timothy (10/5): - Room could've been a tad warmer otherwise excellent
- Choonkyu (8/5): - good value for money
- Rhonda Michelle (10/5): - I absolutely loved my stay...the view was impeccable and the building is so lovely...the staff were fantastic from the moment I walked into the Inn....I will be back in the spring for sure !! The location is perfect and all was just a short walk to shops and restaurants...Bangor is such a lovely seaside place...great food and people...Cheers
- Charmaine (10/5): Excellent - Highly recommend , staff were very friendly and helpful , beautiful guest house would definitely recommend
- Karen (10/5): - It was a beautiful location. We had a sea view from our room. Lots of choices of eating places within walking distance. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
- Linda (10/5): Highly recommend - Excellent location and amazing hosts. Beautiful guest house, we will definitely recommend.
- Alexander (8/5): - Friendly welcome.
Pretty good value for money.
The room had a sofa although the wall mounted TV couldn't swivel round to be watched from the sofa!
The blinds didn't stay down but there were curtains.
Decor is "grey carpet and fake flowers and the breakfast buffet was good but cheap bread ham and cheese.
This is part of a small chain and I imagine they do well but it does lack soul and flair. If you are looking for a family run guest house with a hearty home cooked breakfast with local produce in a warm homesyle house then this isnt for you. But I had a good nights sleep and the shower worked well.
- Julie (10/5): - This B&B is a wee gem, I booked 3 rooms for myself and 3 other friends, the 2 double rooms had outstanding views of the marina and the sea, the single room did not have the views, but that didn't take anything away from it, it was a beautiful room and my friend who stayed in this room loved it, Steven was a lovely man, nothing was a trouble to him, we had a drink in the little bar, the craic was great, we also met beautiful Shadow who's just the friendliest wee dog. Breakfast is continental and good variety. We're definitely going back hopefully in December, so will look forward to seeing you soon. Well worth a visit folks and defo worth the money
- Ashritha (10/5): - The stay was Amazing, felt like a home rather than paid accommodation. Staff was lovely and helpful
- Irene (10/5): - First and foremost, our host Julie went above and beyond to make us feel at home. She was available 24/7 if needed. On our morning of departure we had an early rise and she was up serving us breakfast at 6am. The venue is very attractive and provided everything we needed. We would recommend Astala Guest House for travellers in the Bangor area. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
- Marie (10/5): Perfect. - We stayed at the hotel for 3days. Accommodation wonderful, food fresh good quality, service excellent. I would recommend Astala Hotel to anyone who goes to Bangor. Well done Julie, Steven, and co workers.
- Mercy (10/5): - This guest house is clean and perfect for a long or short stay. We enjoyed our stay and the environment was cool.
The only thing that needs improvement is the television channels, they should upgrade the TV channels with interesting and more enjoyable ones.
- Farah (10/5): Excellent stay at Astala! - Our stay at Astala was amazing from start to finish. Julie, Steven snr and Steven jnr were so lovely and we really enjoyed spending time at the guesthouse with them. The room had everything we needed, very clean and lovely decor. The bar is a lovely little touch making the experience a little more enjoyable! The setting opposite the marina is lovely, having breakfast and looking out at the water was a great start to the day. We were attending an event in Belfast and our commute was easy by public transport and by car. The staff helped us with suggestions of where to go, where to eat etc and really made our stay memorable. We will definitely be back to stay with them again!
- Kerry (10/5): - We loved the property with great views of the tranquil yacht harbor. The local bands played until 10:00 pm marching through the streets. We went for a walk along the harbor and watched locals pass by. Highly recommended.
- Jennifer (10/5): - It was modern clean fresh and homely. I cannot rate it high enough. Would be my first choice from now on.
- Thomas (10/5): Bangor Astala wonderful - Had a fabulous time at this hotel and local area. Comfy room with lifts. Highly recommended ❤️💙
- Verified traveler (4/5): - the 1st room we were put in flooded- the shower didnt drain properly, and then a light fitting fell on my sons head, then to top it all the room smelt terribly of drains. The 2nd room was a little better, not very clean..and the toilet seat broke. run down, needed a deep clean.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very relaxed, great views of the marina and Trevor and his team gave great hospitality.
- Byron (10/5): Recommend - Very handy guesthouse, good info from the staff, lovely view of the harbor
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely place, we enjoyed our stay there ! Everything was close and handy, Great view ! Súper!!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - clean and comfortable with a very sweet dog good location
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely property. To be fair this was a short overnight stay so can only comment on this. Looks really very clean. Can hear everything from from other rooms. Bathroom in need of a real good DIY - parts broken on bath and crack in sink but I can;t take away from the views and really nice room. The owner was very helpful getting us a taxi and that came super quick too, though don;t rely on the taxi man being pleasant!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean inside, friendly staff, good service, the outside could be improved but don't judge a book by the cover.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - They have a lift which was brilliant
Breakfast excellant too
- lee (8/5): - Friendly staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I enjoyed the views and the room was clean and tidy. It was a bit rough around the edges such as a cracked sink and the bath panel was also broken. The bed base was a bit grubby but the sheets and bedding were fine. I would stay there again though.
- Stephen (8/5): - Friendly hospitable staff although we only stayed 1 night there was a bit of a smell in the bathroom the bed was a bit lumpy and i wasnt keen on the breakfast but apart from that id still come back cos it was in a great location
