• Lilah (8/5): Comfortable, conveniently located for trips to Fenway Park - Open floor plan, walking distance to Fenway Park, lots of space, tastefully decorated, large fridge, nice double view out both sides of apartment, helpful host via Booking app Pull out beds were both very loud and creaky, one of the sets of bedding had some long hairs in it, only bathroom is in the master so you have to enter the room someone else is in to use the bathroom, thermostat was locked, unable to change temperature

• Michelle (10/5): I loved this Place - Very Clean, and was extremely easy to work with this Company. It made my whole trip to Fenway Park even more enjoyable. Very clean and everything we could expect in a Stay away from home.
• Charles (1/5): Unreasonable $125 cleaning fee for one night made this totally not worth it. - To our surprise, a $125 cleaning fee was tacked on to our charge for a one-night stay in a single room. We left the room in immaculate condition, and were only in the room long enough to sleep. Booking.com indicated that the only other charge beyond the room fee would be the tax, no mention of a cleaning fee upfront. When we contacted the owner to resolve what we thought was an error, he said this $125 is a standard fee he always charges and he refused to refund or discount the fee. The room was adequate, nothing special. For the total cost of this booking, you can get a much nicer hotel room downtown in a better location without hidden fees.

• Justin (4/5): - The hotel lies about the time they will get you check in information, lies about parking, and then has NO HUMANS to speak with at all! They send a text and it’s clearly from a foreign country and even when there is an actual emergency or issue they refuse to call or let you speak to an actual human. They also lie about there being stairs that are impossible to climb and the age of the property. Overall a total fraud!
• Shannon (10/5): - Our stay at Charlesgate Suites was lovely. The whole building was extremely clean and our room had all the basic necessities. The little espresso machine and pods were a nice surprise. It's about a 4 min walk to the green line station entrance, maybe 10 min to Fenway and 15 min to Newbury St. The street itself is beautiful, very "Boston" with all the multistory brownstones. I do wish there was a closer convenience store where you could get bottled waters and things. This is no fault of the Charlesgate of course. if you are staying there I would try to plan ahead so you are not walking 10 minutes from the 7Eleven carrying a case of water. We would definitely stay here again.

• oded (2/5): - If you are ok not sleeping!! Basement room, by the back screeching door. People came in and out at all hours of night and will not allow you to sleep. That room’s basement location wasn’t communicated. Also, door code didn’t work during check-in, room was set for 2 even though reservation was for three. Parking wasn’t available either, even though we requested in advance. Terrible experience!

• Susan (10/5): Looking forward to our next stay at Charlesgate Suites. - This is the third time staying at the suites, and we would go no where else. The accommodations are great, it’s quiet, clean, and the kitchenette has everything you need to make a meal. We like the parking that is available. Also the staff is readily friendly and available, even though we only talked through texts, if we had a question, they got back in touch with us within 15 minutes!!

• Kellie (7/5): Nice stay, good location, could use some improvements - Location and modern updates Found out about there not being an elevator and the room being on the forth floor the day before arrival. AC was not accessible and controlled for whole building. Property is by freeway with some noise, but not terrible. Tenants and/or staff slammed doors and made a lot of noise inside. Staff told us the coffee maker was drip but came to find a nespresso machine instead, with not enough coffee for our stay. Kitchen had just enough supplies to cook basic dishes, could use improvement. Mini blades with no curtains made the early sunrise wake us everyday.

• Ajay (2/5): - I booked their Design Studio Suite. This suite was supposed to have cooking facility including hotplates/stove, dish washer and full size refrigerator with freezer. And area was supposed to be 505 sq feet. We booked specifically such a suite as we are fully vegetarian and planned to cook our own. They put us in a much smaller studio, which had a tiny refrigerator, no freezer, no stove/hotplate, no dining table, no dishwasher. That ruined our whole vacation. Tried to communicate to them this and they totally ignored.
• Tae (4/5): Disappointing - Location was good. It was not a hotel. No facilities but room, for room cleaning service, need extra charge.
• Yolanda (10/5): - I traveled to Boston for my youngest sons’s college graduation. I was aware that I was staying on the fourth floor without access to an elevator prior to my visit. That was the only issue I experienced because of my own need for more daily exercise. After I made it to the top floor and opened my door, I was welcomed into the most inviting space I have ever been in during a hotel stay. The layout is perfect. The bathroom is the first door on the right with a separate shower and tub. The kitchen is to the left with a complete set up - refrigerator, range, dishwasher, stocked cabinets, breakfast table and chairs. A small desk with a lamp is directly across from the entrance. And a sofa that pulls out to a bed sits before a television and coffee table. The bed was tucked away on the other side of a wall out of view from the front door, but you could be in bed and watch television with ease as the bed was directly behind the sofa. The use of SPACE and placement of furniture made this suite the most comfortable I’ve ever been in. Any needs I had were communicated through text messages, and a response was consistently received within minutes. I was within walking distance (15 minutes) of Boston University and did not have to call an Uber even once during my stay. I walked to a restaurant for dinner and to the store to pick up a few personal items. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will be checking for vacancies with Charlesgate Suites any time I am visiting Boston.

• Summer (1/5): I will never book this hotel again! - Nothing. It was the worst place I ever had. Our experience at Charlesgate Suites was deeply disappointing. The power went out multiple times during the night, including once when someone was using the bathroom—leaving them in complete darkness, which was dangerous. When we contacted customer service, the speed of problem solving was extremely slow. One of the phone line was even hung up on us twice without any explanation when we were trying to find a parking lot and we spend 3h for that, which was unacceptable, he was the worst customer service I ever met. The cleanliness of the room was very poor—there was visible dust and black marks on the bed. It’s unclear what the $140+ cleaning fee was actually for. We were also required to take out our own trash and wash the dishes. In total, with parking fees added, we paid over $400, which is completely unreasonable for this level of service.

• Jennifer (8/5): - The building and our apartment are really beautiful. A lot of care wanted into the design and the selection of furniture and decor. We opted to pay for parking which made everything even more convenient. We are from the country so not used to city noise which were a little intense at times, but manageable. The only suggestion (strong suggestion) I would make to management would be to have clear instructions about the heat and ac. Specifically, how to light the fireplace within the apartment. There was no way for us to know that the fireplace was the only source of heat, and there were no instructions on how to light it. The first night we spent in the apartment was very cold. 60 degrees. We called management in the morning and it took a lot of back and forth for them to get us the information needed to successfully light the fireplace, and clarity that the thermostat was for ac only. All of this could have been avoided if there was clear instructions with in the apartment. Seems like a simple fix for the comfort of future guests. Other than that, the apartment was very enjoyable.

• Wendy (10/5): Thanks for a great stay in Boston! - Excellent location near Boston University, bars, restaurants, etc and just a few minute walk to Fenway. We had the downstairs suite which was extremely roomy and had a full kitchen. While there was no front desk, the reservation team was responsive, polite and helpful.

• Christina (8/5): Great place and location, a few hassles - We had problems with registering online and uploading photo ID in advance, and when we arrived the automated door lock wasn't working, so we had to reach out via hotels.com to get the back door code. It was a hassle -- but thankfully they responded promptly (it was during day time, I wouldn't have wanted to deal with this at night) -- but once we got into the unit, it was excellent. Spacious, very comfortable beds and furniture, great shower, clean, convenient to BU and transit. The kitchen was minimally stocked and could have included a few things for cooking (salt/paper, maybe oil/viengar) in addition to the coffee/sugar supplies provided. We really enjoyed out visit and will stay again, with the caveat of knowing to expect a few hassles, given its great location and comfortable amenities.

• Natalia (9/5): Superb - I did not have the breakfast and was given no instructions on where the breakfast was. This should be included in the introduction and instructions when arriving. I also did not smell breakfast when leaving in the morning. I wish there was a manual lock on the inside of the door. Although the doors lock automatically, it still felt unsafe not to have a bolted lock that I could manually do from the inside when sleeping.
• Matthew (6/5): - Pros: old school “row house” vibe, right outside of Boston University; felt pretty safe, with lots of food/bars in the area, with transportation and shopping close by too. Cons: very small, noisy, especially on lower floors; limited space to put your things/lacked function in many areas. Needs some maintenance in certain areas.

• Susan (10/5): A hidden gem in Boston! - This is the second time we have stayed at Charlesgate Suites, and our experience has been nothing but phenomenal. Our suite was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed, the king size bed was very comfortable and the Nespresso machine was a perfect addition. The building has the ambience of an old brownstone, with unique wallpaper, and a winding staircase, that takes you to your room. The company gives you the directions to enter the day before your stay, they are simple to follow. We were so glad that they had a parking spot for us, which as you know is a premium to find in Boston! The T stop is right in Kenmore Square, which is maybe a 10 minute walk to get too. We are looking forward to our next stay at Charlesgate Suites! We did have a few ideas that we suggested to the company, maybe deadbolt locks on the suite doors, extra towel racks near the sinks in the bathrooms, and directions for the use of the thermostat. They got back to us right away, saying they would address the issues, they were very positive.
• Mark (8/5): - Great space, great location. Just as advertised. Oct 2024 EVERYTHING looked new…floors, appliances, paint, furniture. Everything. Everything worked well ( though the fireplace would only stay lit for 5 minutes. Exactly FIVE). Communication was awesome. Prompt and helpful. Only criticism: did not know that there was NO ELEVATOR until the day of check in. At 61 with bad knees and four bags, getting settled in was a major hassle. Four narrow flights of winding stairs. Other than that…outstanding!!!

• Bulent (7/5): To sum up it was good to stay in but there was maintanance problems - The location was very good. Interior design of the room was very good as well. Every morning at 10:30 fire alarm was activated and alarmed at least 2 hours.

The fire alarm went off like clickwork every morning at 10am. I raised this with management but nothing changed. The code I was given did not work on the front door which is a real problem when you arrive at 2am. Heating / cooling system is incomprehensible and not user-friendly

It was quite a pain to walk up and down.

• Ashley (1/5): Not recommended for the price. - The location is ideal for a stay I'm Boston. The room was clean. The door security and access codes did not work properly. Bathroom was dysfunctional. The television did not work. Dead batteries in the remote most likely. Air conditioning was not controlled by guest. Tried to lower the temperature, but it remained at 71. Parking lot was filled was potholes and trash everywhere. Outside was disgusting.
• Lu (9/5): A nice place which is worth to come back - Location is very good, space is very comfortable Maybe a doule layer window is needed

• Kaleigh (8/5): Would book again. - Close to Fenway and in a great area to walk around and go to a game or grab food to eat. Clean and very hospitable. Had all the necessary materials available to make coffee. Only three large towels available for use with 4 people staying. Could not get an early check in as requested. The exterior front door code never worked throughout our stay. Our code only worked for the back exterior door to access the facility.
• Keith (8/5): 3 days in Boston - Happy to have on site parking. Nice neighborhood. Short walk to subway. Short walk to museum of fine arts.
• Linfeng (5/5): Our stay has been less than satisfactory - We booked through Booking.com, and per the images shown, we did not expect to select a deluxe suite and get placed in a room in the basement which has limited lighting. Communication over text with the host yielded no change, instead, they claimed we selected specifically the room in the basement. We did not. Unless the deluxe suite means the basement. Check-in process is iffy, we never saw the host and instead checked in through text communication and email. Parking is an additional thirty dollars when booking.com says it’s free. Unclear advertising.

• Tracy (3/5): Poor - One confirmation said we were on the 3rd floor, then the next said the 4th floor. Very confusing, too many stairs to climb up. None of the electrical outlets in the living area/bedroom worked. TV did not work due to no outlet working, fridge did not get cold. We were advised that the parking lines were light green, they were not they were yellow. Vert confusing for an expensive price.
• Maria (10/5): Perfect place for a week in Boston. - Very clean and well maintained!! Updated unit with very nice furnishings. Excellent location between BU and back bay. Walked or biked everywhere. It was perfect!
• Jolene (8/5): - The front door did not allow us to check in. We were finally helped by another traveller who reported that the front door had not worked for several days. This kind woman showed us the back door which was difficult to discern. Everything else was good. Clean, excellent location, roomy...
• Sullivan (9/5): Very comfortable and convenient. - The location was great - 5 minute walk to train/bus station. Place was clean and spacious and the owner/manager was extremely responsive. I let the owner know there was a problem with the bathroom outlet and faucet one evening and the problem was fixed the next day while we were out. There weren't any tissues in the place and we would have liked a regular coffee maker instead of a Nespresso machine.

• Yi (3/5): Shouldn’t sell the basement as a deluxe room. - Spacious Didn’t marked the room located in ground level, it’s more like the basement rather than ground level, the humidity in the room was over 70%. Only half level is above the ground. The humidity made sore body in the next morning.

• Bing (7/5): Not good except location. - Good location. No any service during 3 night stay. No Laundry facilities. Our room was on 3rd level without elevator for luggages. I asked for invoice but told to get from Bookings ( finally sent to me after communication through Bookings rep.)

• Joshua (8/5): Boston Charm with Great Location - We loved the location of the Charlesgate Suites. You're a couple of blocks away from the Kenmore station which is located on the green line for the T which allows you to get to basically an part of Boston. Our family enjoyed the charm of this brownstone home as it felt reflective of Boston's character itself, but the interior has been updated for comfort. If we're to visit Boston again we'd certainly consider staying at Charlesgate Suites again.
• Rajiv (5/5): Passable - Nice accommodations Sockets in the main living area didn’t work. Despite multiple communications with management issue was never resolved during 1 week stay

• Karamarie (10/5): Can't wait to come back - For a "staffless" establishment the instructions and stay were very well managed via Text. The Amenities were phenomenal (Large in-suite Tub, most comfortable bed, quality linens) and the historical brownstone conversion, created a historical and homey charm. The central location was great walking to most of our trip-planned destinations. 10/10 Having a parking spot since we drove in was great, I would have preferred to have it included in the cost but it is a nice option to have as an add-on since not all guests will require it, and was a reasonable price per day for a short stay, but could add up on longer stays
