It seems like they are trying, ownership needs to step up on the exterior appeal. Rooms are what you pay for as pricing is reasonable. New owner so the 26 family years are a false advertisement! Good stop over for the price? You decide...
- Jason (10/5): Will stay again for sure. - Lauren was an absolute legend. Knowing she may not have been onsite when we got there she called me in the. To let me know. Left the key for me and came to see us afterwards. The room was great. Clean, updated and comfortable. The bed and pillows are the best I have had the pleasure of sleeping in. Lots of hot water, although the water pressure is a little.on the low side but none the less great stay all around. Will certainly stay there again if passing through.

- Nickeya (8/5): - Overall, this place was great. I especially liked that our room had a refrigerator, microwave AND a stovetop! My one gripe is the curtains. They need to have double curtain rods so that the sheer curtains can hang close to the window, and the opaque ones can hang in front of them on the side of the room. This is how most hotels/motels help maintain guests’ privacy. This place had one rod with the sheer curtains in the center and the opaque ones on the sides, so it was hard to bring the opaque ones together at night. My partner would have preferred a larger table in the room, but that’s small potatoes to me. The place was clean, and the manager was kind. My partner and I both agree that we would stay here again.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Hidden Gem - Like everyone else said, don’t judge this place by the outside appearance. The rooms are renovated, so it’s a great deal for the price. I had everything that I needed. Lauren is awesome, very friendly and helpful! She deserves a bonus and/or a raise!! I look forward to staying here again!

- Nancy (10/5): - Don't let the outside or location fool you. The motel rooms have been nicely updated. Beds are comfortable, kitchenette is nice. No restaurants or other amenities nearby, but only a short drive to Corning.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good things in small packages. - When I enter a budget motel I expect it to be dank, dusky, dingy, dim, and dark. This place was bright, clean and inviting. It has been newly renovated, and has a few extras like a shaving/beauty mirror, a hairdryer, a desk perfect for laptops, a swivel TV with two remotes, a countertop burner, fridge, micro, dishes and cutlery. It is only an 8 minute drive from Market Street and the Glass Musuem. You won't do better for the money.

- DIANA (8/5): - Despite its rather unpreposessing exterior appearance, this motel - a very short drive from charming downtown Corning - is fine: clean, secure, with everything a weary traveler needs (except places to eat - but there are many about 7 minutes away in Corning). Nice clean comfortable room, TV, free WiFi, mini kitchen - bring your own coffee. If it just had a full length mirror it would be perfect.

- Dione (10/5): Looks Are Deceiving - The motel was small and unassuming but Lauren was very friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious nicely updated and very clean. The price was affordable. About the only negative was that the pillows were not very comfortable but overall I highly suggest this property when staying in Corning NY

- Russell (8/5): - The Gatehouse is a "Mom and Pop" type motel located a few miles down the road from Corning, NY. I arrived a few hour's before the 3 PM check-in time but the owner/manager had no problem providing a clean, quiet room. It's an older property with about a half hour ride back into town for a meal or a visit to the glass museum.
- Ariel (8/5): - From the outside you’d think you made a wrong choice but the inside of these rooms are way better. Fully remodeled, nice little kitchen with everything you need, bathroom was spacious, bed was super comfy. Was also nice to be able to control our own temp with the ac. Front desk woman named Lauren I think, she was super nice and accommodating. The only complaint I have was some dust around the bathroom sink, and when I dropped something I noticed a bunch of dust under the bed as well. Also we found old moldy bread in one of the cupboards, must of been missed by the cleaners, not a big deal since we only stayed one night, but I could see others having an issue with that. Overall it was a nice stay and I would definitely stay again if we are ever back in the area!!

Tv had utube and Netflix, great lighting, the bed was new but not to our liking. Windows had no blinds and semi sheer curtains (would have preferred to have full black out or full privacy option. Walls were incredibly thin and we heard everything. Overall lovely room and great stay, could have been excellent with the addition of another window dressing and an included white noise machine. Friendly and helpful owner, very accommodating.

I'll admit I was a little worried at first because the lobby was very out dated and a little musty. In the room everything was clean. The hotel is about a 5 minute drive outside of town by the country club. The kids got a big kick out of having an actual room key. Great pricing too.

Owner/management changed the sheets and pillow covers when we requested. Door was a bit tricky to unloock from outside but good instruction for check-in past midnight. Bed was very comfortable. Toilet chain kept falling off every time and we had to put the chain back in. Room was not as renovated as pictures showed online but okay for the season & price.

- anna (4/5): - Our toliet was leaking and there was water on the bathroom floor. The shower had mold inside and the whole bathroom looked like it needed to be updated. I was coming back from a marathon but did not want to shower there. Cobwebs on the ceiling over the sink and flying bugs. Hotel staff was very friendly though and helpful and pleasant. It was an OK place but wouldn't want to spend anytime in the room. TV remotes couldn't figure out how to use them and there was no directions. No phone in the hotel to call anyone.

Very friendly service. Wi-Fi was a little weak but that's to be expected given the area. Would highly recommend especially for marathon weekend.

The manager was nice enough to put me in recently updated double room.Everything was new from appliances, furnitures to the bathroom. The queen beds are nice , clean and comfy. The WiFi signals are weak in the room. The motel is about 5 mins from the town and the museum.

- Verified traveler (2/5): Scary - Two things made for an awful stay: 1) no one at the front desk for check-in or check-out and 2) the worst mildew I’ve ever smelled, in this country or the tropics, times 5. When I arrived I had to call a number and wait ten minutes to check in. [Hint: if you are the only person running an entire motel by yourself, the only way you can dogsit is if you bring the dog to work with you.] This is a shabby old motel with the old-style doors straight to the outside. The room was mixed: hot water and AC worked, linens were fresh and plentiful, bed wasn’t bad, there was one small dead roach in a corner under the sink. The mildew and the front desk are dealbreakers, particularly for anything over $50/night.

At arriving could not get the reserved room, office closed with a paper in the window to call a phone number, several calls, no answer. Only another guest there than helped me to find the office person. After checking in, WiFi needed a password, could not find anyone to provide it. At check out, office closed, left the room key hanging at the office door. Not a place to stay again!-

Left a night early and paid for a second hotel just so we wouldn't have to stay the extra night. Our first step was to drive into town to get air fresheners and disinfectant wipes. We had brought a sleeping bag, so we put that on top of the bed and slept on, but not in, the bed. Internet was intermittent. Spider webs in the bathroom. We used our own towels, and used the towels supplied with the room to cover the stained chairs before we sat on them. Was difficult to get into the room, had to use a shoulder to get the door open. I hate giving bad reviews to mom and pop type places, but seriously though, you can't expect to run a business like this without putting some money and effort into it. I feel I have to let other travellers know that these accomodations are just not acceptable to most people.

The owner was responsive and made every effort to ensure we were comfortable. The water pressure was very low in the shower which was annoying but we were able to make due. I would stay there again for the type of learning vacation that I was on. It was very cost effective and close to Corning Museum.

The one bed seemed to not have springs in one corner. Overall comfort was just okay, but again, for the price paid it was acceptable. The room was large and included a microwave and refrigerator. There was some noise from neighbors but nothing too terrible.

Used soap and wrapper on the floor of the shower made us feel creepy about the entire place. We unplugged the room deodorizer because of the overpowering smell, only to discover that it was masking an old tobacco smell, probably trapped in the carpet. This place needs an overhaul.

- kimwX9966WV (4/5): Musty and functionally obsolete - First thing you notice is the strong musty smell. The bed is extremely small. The chairs in the room have lots of spots on them and should be reupholstered. The bathroom needs to be recaulked. There is no coffee pot (no breakfast but for the price you wouldn't expect it) and no refrigerator. The TV is really small and the volume buttons on the remote do not control the TV volume. The TV must be on Channel 3 to use the cable but was on 13 when I first got there. The wifi shows full bars, but when you connect it immediately drops down to 1 and you cannot connect to the internet and no websites will load. The sink has visible cracks in it (it's a plastic sink). The toilet paper dispenser is rusted. The toilet itself was new. The tub needs to be re-caulked, it's all cracked up and nasty looking. The bathroom floor tile needs bleach and then needs to be re-grouted The lights in the room have rust on them. There are cobwebs and spider webs in the room. The drapes pull closed by hand only. I did not use the heating or cooling. There is visible dirt on the TV stand. There are 2 outlets and all plugs are being used. I had to unplug one of the wall lights to use an outlet. There is daylight showing under the door and I heard animals at night scraping to get in. It did not rain when I was there, but if it had, I'm sure water would have come in under the door, which may be the cause of the musty smell. It was quiet except on Saturday, the family in the house on the property had a gathering in their yard and were noisy, but I wasn't there most of the evening.

- Sunshine749647 (2/5): fleas! - I checked my bed before going to sleep. There was a flea on my leg. Today I have multiple bites on both legs, arms and trunk. I needed a room for one night and this was the last available room in town. I would never recommend this motel to anyone.
- suedanf (8/5): Hotel - We booked a hotel room. The room was clean and just what we needed for a night with a reasonable rate which we found on airbnb. Better rates than other hotels in the area. Easy check in and we were told about stores and restaurants in the area. Would stay there again.
- Pawpers (4/5): Time Warp Stay - I stayed here the night before the Wineglass marathon. This was the most basic of hotels. Stepping into the top was like stepping into a time warp. The bed was comfortable enough for the one night but the rest of the room was not "welcoming." I walked into a spider web when going into the bathroom for the first time, the lighting was marginally better than candle light and the sofa was not something I would sit on. So, the only time I spent in the room was to sleep. If I run this marathon again I will be looking for upgraded accommodations

It was super clean, quiet, good water pressure, hot water, spacious, comfy bed, what else we needed for a good night sleep? The check-in person was very courteous. We paid about $70 including taxes. The surroundings were clean and well kept. We will stay again!
- Runsig (8/5): Nice place for the price - I wasn't looking for anything special, just a place to sleep. I was very clean and quiet. TV was older, but I wasn't there to watch tv. Owner was very helpful in helping me find places to eat etc. For the price you cant beat it, if you need all the bells and whistles I suggest you stay closer to town, but the price downtown is double than this hotel.
- NJTraveler856 (2/5): low cost and you get what you pay for - if you are looking for a relatively low cost place to sleep, do not need internet access, do not plan to watch TV, are flexible with respect to the room temperature, do not need ice, and are not picky about the appearance of the building or the other guests, you will probably be ok with staying here. The room was clean (well, the toilet bowl was heavily stained with mineral stains but that does not effect its operation), the room was a good size, there were not glasses/cups in the room, the ice machine down the hall had an out of order sign on it, the bed was ok (on the soft side), shower had adequate pressure and plenty of hot water (I suggest bringing your own soap and shampoo for sure), the towels were good, the TV was an old tube set and was a bit fuzzy, when we asked at check in if they had wifi the reply was maybe (that was very accurate--when we first tried to sign in it was not working so we had to call to have it reset then it worked so slow it was not usable at all, but in the morning, it was slow but good enough to post this review) and the air conditioner did not work (the motel representative first suggested a different setting which did not get it to work, then said why do we need air conditioning this time of the year, then suggested it was because the room was cold already which it was not, and finally suggested we set it on fan to blow in the air from the outside which fortunately was cooler than the air inside.) The motel representative was pleasant and gave us directions to where we are going today (we will see if they are good later on once we leave.) If you do decide to stay here, be sure to ask for directions on how to get to it since it might not show up on your gps.
- ChristopherF946 (8/5): Great value, friendly service - This motel was exactly what we were looking for, and couldn't have met our needs better: a clean, spacious, comfortable, and inexpensive room to lay our heads down and sleep; a clean bathroom; and a hot shower with great water pressure. We didn't need or want the resort amenities or wireless internet that the motel doesn't provide. It was the perfect place to stop for the night while we were on a long car trip. I loved the price! Our room had two queen-size beds for about $66 (including the tax). There was no additional charge for having 4 adults in the room instead of 2. The owners were very gracious in welcoming us even though we checked in very late, around 11pm. The woman who answered the bell was extremely friendly and gave me plenty of her time. We had a nice chat and she offered good advice on where to eat breakfast and what to see in Corning. Everything I could see, inside and out and around the grounds, was maintained well. The room had a faint musty smell, which I could detect only for the first few minutes. Far more important to me, there was no smell of cigarette smoke anywhere I went inside or out. All the appointments in the room were "old" (yes, that's a relative term) but very well-kept and all perfectly functional. All in all, this motel reminded me very pleasantly of motels I stayed in while on vacations as a child. The place is located conveniently along a main road into Corning, only a few minutes outside the city but in a quiet area. Important note: if your GPS device doesn't route you to a location next to a country club, ask for the "old address" to route to (sorry I can't remember it to write it down here!).
- dwfaneed (6/5): Basic hotel mets basic needs at a good price - At $69 a night, if all you need is an adequate room, this is the place for you. The rooms are large, it is clean, showers are relatively new. It is quiet and close to Corning and Horseheads. If you need wi-fi or a pool, this is not your hotel. But for just getting a shower and sleeping, this is a nice place to stay. It is run by an elderly lady who comes down out of her house when you pick up the phone at the front office and call her. She will bring you ice from her house (the ice machine doesn't work). There are inside rooms and outside rooms. The outside rooms all have ash trays on the outside to encourage no smoking in rooms. There are chairs for sitting outside.
- 732JudyM (6/5): Old but clean - This motel was just out of town so it is nice and quiet. It is clean but had an odor so I lit a candle to make it better. There is a washer, dryer, ice machine and vending machine. The washer is the only one that did not have an out of order sign on it. The price was great at only $50 some dollars. My main thing with a hotel or motel is clean and cheap.
- JenniferB144 (2/5): disappointing - My husband and I were looking for an inexpensive motel in Corning, and chose this motel based on the reviews that we read, which seemed to indicate that it was an old, dated motel, but clean and met minimum standards. The owner who greeted us was very friendly and helpful with suggestions of places to eat. We were surprised and shocked when we walked into the room. The first thing that hit us was the stale, moldly smell. Then,. going into the bathroom, we noticed there was still a dirty washcloth from the previous occupant hanging on the shower rod. No light bulbs in several of the fixtures, and another where the light bulb did not work. The sheets and towels had stains on them. The showerhead was held in position with wraps of duck tape. Some of the fixtures were heavily corroded. It gave you the sense that you wanted to keep your shoes on and maybe sleep on top of the covers. The security of the door lock and frame seemed so ill-fitted that I think leaning hard on the outside could easily have opened the door. There was nothing in the soap dispenser in the shower. The AC blows directly on the bed without having a way of directing the vents. With all these items overlooked, it made us wonder how well the room gets cleaned between occupants. Curiously, we went to check out the ice machine, since that was one of the comments of another review. The ice machine, soda vending machine, and clothes dryer all had signs taped to them saying "Out of Order". I've never given a negative review, but just wanted to give fair warning to whoever would be considering staying here. On a positive note, the bed was fairly comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water.
- Ossenfogva (8/5): Can't beat it for the price! - After looking at a few dumps nearby we found the Gatehouse. Family owned it has the appeal of motels of years ago; nothing fancy but for less than $50 a night it's a bargain compared to the competition. For the price you get a basic room. If you want a resort you're in the wrong place. Geri was more than helpful when it came to nearby attractions and meals. I'll be back for race weekends at the Glen; the price will he higher but so will the 'name' locations nearby.
- SummerG (8/5): A Rare Find - I wish all of my destinations had a little place like this to stay. Owners appear to run the place and are very knowledgeable about the area. Room was clean, grounds are beautiful and well kept. Can't beat the price of $60 per night. For me, I like a quiet, clean room and I take care of my own amenities. If that is what you are looking for in the Corning area I can highly recommend the Gate House. See Photos below.
- sesuNY (8/5): Retro charm, surprisingly comfortable, great A/C - This motel is very 50's both inside and out, but room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful - she gave us maps and explained how to get in and out of town (if your GPS doesn't recognize the address - ours didn't - try looking for Fairway Drive and LPGA), and where to go for what we wanted to do. Location is quiet but very close to town. The air conditioning was great despite temperatures approaching 100. The bed was among the most comfortable I can remember. The room had a large desk + chair, plus a small table and chairs where we ate our takeout dinner. Roomy night tables, TV, a bench by the bed, very good lighting. Parking right out front. No ice machine, but Geri brought us ice from her home across the driveway. The bath and vanity areas were both nice, the only downside was they weren't directly adjacent. But for this budget price, we didn't mind.

- TIC09 (8/5): Surprise value - I picked this place based on previous reviews. No frills and outdated but clean. The owner was very helpful with where to go for dinner/breakfast. If you need amenities like shampoo, hair dryer, clock, etc, Go up the road and spend twice as much. If you are like us and want a clean, safe and inexpensive place to sleep stay here.
