Guest Reviews
- Melissa (6/5): Disappointed. - I love the location, the peace of Mecklenburgh Square and the 1920s Bloomsbury atmosphere. At this price (>250GBP/night) I expect wifi to work; tea and coffee to be provided along with the kettle; a less desolate room; and some kind of shared space to sit outside the room. Saying 'this is student accommodation' doesn't cut it when it's advertised as a hotel.
- Johanna (10/5): For me it was absolutely perfect. - Fantastic location. Nostalgic.
- Antonia (9/5): - Todo genial Las camas

- Sára Rebeka (10/5): 10/10 recommend, can't wait to be back! - As a Hungarian citizen, I’m used to dorms in Hungary often being less than modern or perfectly clean, so I had modest expectations. However, I was pleasantly surprised by Goodenough College Uni Residence — it exceeded them in every way.
I chose it based on the positive reviews and central location, and I’m glad I did. The building has a romantic, elegant aesthetic, and my room was spacious, well-equipped, and thoughtfully designed.
The soundproofing was excellent — I never heard my neighbors — and I appreciated the thoughtful touches such as fresh towels and small toiletries provided upon arrival.
I stayed in a room with a shared bathroom, but I must say, both the showers and toilets were consistently clean and well-maintained throughout my stay.
(The room itself had a double bed (yes, it was comfortable), mirrors, a sink, a fridge, a giant wardrobe, chest of drawers and a big desk with a comfy chair.)
The garden area is beautiful, made me feel like I was in a Taylor Swift-Love Story music video. (oh and the cute terrace, I fell in love with that.)
The staff were professional, friendly, and genuinely helpful when I asked for local recommendations. Their assistance made settling in much easier, and I really appreciated their welcoming attitude.
Overall, I’d highly recommend it — not only for the amenities and cleanliness but for the quiet, elegant atmosphere it provides. Honestly only one thing comes to mind: I wish the shared showers had built in hairdryers.
- Alexander (10/5): I'll definitely stay there next time I'm in London - My ensuite room was clean and the staff were really helpful. The have a canteen for residents and it has good food seven days a week.

- Tamara (5/5): - Fantastic location, friendly staff, rooms basic but spacious and equipped with all you need for a short stay The mattresses/beds are ok-ish but old and very soft; it is nice that there is a sink in the room, but it had a bad smell coming from the pipes; there was a loud humming noise from some kind of machinery all night long and the doors bang loudly and the walls are paper thin so you definitely need to bring earplugs. But the worst part was: I don't mind sharing bathrooms, but the bathrooms were dirty and very, very old, and on day 1 and 3 there was only lukewarm water, on day 2 only cold water... the 3 toilets for the whole floor of female rooms were incredibly disgusting, 2 of them had been overflowing on day 1 and 2, and after notifying staff they apparently merely cleared the blockage without cleaning the toilets thoroughly afterwards. I heard it was different on the second floor with mens rooms, so maybe it was just bad luck

- David Albano (10/5): Perfect place - Apartment is huge and the area is quiet but close to the main attractions. Friendly staff

- Clyde (10/5): - For what I was expecting, a simple, inexpensive location close to Russell Square tube and St Pancras international (for my Eurostar connection), I was very pleasantly surprised. I chose the one bed room with ensuite bathroom. Located across the small park from the other main college facilities, I was in William Goodenough House, adjacent to the main actual, higher graded and priced, hotel. 3rd floor with large window overlooking the park and tennis court. Stairs and elevator options. There was ongoing building/renovation work being done on the building adjacent, however, the noise was minimal and at a time of day that most people would not have been in their rooms. The room was spotless, and very spacious: double bed, desk/chair, tea/coffee facilities, small refrigerator (for my fresh fruits and pork pies!) and ample shelving and storage. Housekeeping only services the room once each week. This was fine for me, there were sufficient towels and toiletries for my 3 day stay. I did run out of coffee and milk, however, reported to the front desk and they delivered replacements within an hour. Well lit, and welcoming front desk area, and staff, for early or late comings and goings. I did not partake of the restaurant services offered at the College facilities. Overall, very pleasant and enjoyable visit.

- Nallamilli (10/5): -
- Ruth (7/5): Pleasant - V convenient location in a charming square - loved being part of the history this institution for a short time
Clean spacious room
Restaurant extremely good value for money No kettle in room nor hairdryer that I could see
Former would have been more useful however
- Alex Julian (8/5): - I only booked for one night before leaving for an early train. It was great to be so close to the train station and that the checkout was possible early in the morning. The dining hall looked like a good option and I wish I'd had time to make use of it. The room was nice and comfortable, except for the doors. The room was quiet, but unfortunately the doors were quite loud when they were opened/closed. I was startled several times by the loud noises from the door of the next room. Showers were quite far away, but there were many so there were no problems with having to wait or anything.
- Fukuda (9/5): Great location, helpful reception staff - The reception was open 24 hours and the staff were kind, friendly and very helpful.
Great location - 10-15 minutes walk from the Kings Cross station and 15-20 munites walk to the British Museum.
A hair dryer was provided upon request at the reception, and the fridge in the room was relatively big compared to other hotels of the same price range.
The shared kitchen on my floor did have two kettles but did not have any cutlery, plates or cups - but I had brought my cutlery and went to a nearby shop to buy a cheap mug after checking-in, so the issue was resolved.
The entire premises incl. garden and library were beautiful. The water in the sink installed in my room did not properly drain away, so I could not use it. It was kind of okey for me as my room was very close to the shared bathrooms, toilets and a kitchen and I stayed there for only 5 nights, but it would have been great if I could use the sink in my room.
- MARK (6/5): - Ok for a one night stay in Central London.
Room very basic, which was as expected.
Disappointing to only get given one saggy pillow, so I had to stuff a folded bath towel underneath to bolster.
Shower was basically a hand-held so low on pressure.
- Sandrine (8/5): - Résidence étudiante donc un peu bruyant.
- susan (8/5): - This was a real gem, I was lucky enough to stay here in the holiday season whilst the students were away. There was a little bar with very reasonably priced drinks and I got to listen to a jazz concert. Wonderful surroundings.
- Barbara (10/5): - It was an excellent experience! Just perfect! I will be back! 🤩🙏💜
- Dajuan (10/5): - It was good for what I paid for. I only stayed for a nigh, I wouldn’t want to be there anymore than that. Maybe 2-3 nights max, it’s not the coziest place and it smells stale.
The front desk guy who checked me in was really nice. The guy who checked me out, wasn’t so much.
I would only recommend if it was for a night or two..
- Parth (8/5): - Overall, everything was pretty good. Room was clean, location is good. One thing that can be improved is that the mattress wasn't comfortable
- Francesco (8/5): A comfortable room with a nice view in a college dorm - The room had everything and was large and comfortable. It’s a student accommodation used as a hotel in the summer, so it had a table to study and a nice view of the courtyard. It also had a small sink so I didn’t have to go to the bathroom at the end of the corridor for the most basic things.
Also the bed is comfortable enough. Being a student accommodation there’s not really much privacy at the reception, just a feeling…
The bathrooms were a bit far from my room
- Yuriy (10/5): Great place to stay in central London - Nice accomodation for a great price in central London. They've got 2 buildings, and your room can be in either, so not easy to find at first. Rooms are simple, but clean and have everything you need - even a fridge! Bed's rather comfortable
- Wenting (10/5): Excellent! - Clean bed sheets and toilet facilities, big room, quiet environment Indications about the direction and route

- Sarah (6/5): OK for a short stay. - Location is good for train connections, and it was quiet and the neighbourhood felt safe. Room was the most spacious of the student halls I've stayed in and great that it had its own fridge. Had to wait for room to be ready, even though I arrived after 3pm. Kitchen had no communal cutlery or crockery available. Didn't seem to be any lounge areas.
- Kaixin (9/5): -
- Karen (7/5): Great low cost launch point in a very quiet neighborhood. - Very quiet and private location, at a very good price! Communal showers and toilets, per floor.
- Le Gouard (10/5): -
- mulushoa (9/5): - Good location within walking distance to supermarket , and high street shops The university is for post graduate students . However since they provide access during summer time for visitors
It' will be helpful to provide cutlery & cutlery in the room as they provide access to the kitchen .
This is not a complaint but a suggestion
- FLORENCE (9/5): Splendide lieu !
- Simon (7/5): Basic but comfortable. Could probably find better value for money else where though if planned far enough in advance. - Then property is located in a quite part of the city. It’s not too far from any of the travel services so getting around is not too difficult. Staff were friendly, and as we were at an event at the venue, having accommodation on site was very convenient. Rooms were basic, but suitable comfortable enough for the one night I was staying. For the money, it was very basic. You could find a better hotel for the same money, but as mentioned this was convenient accommodation for what we were doing. There is some wear and tear in places, such as skirting board having chips and damaged boards, and in some places there is evidence of where there has been a water leak. One hallway (not ours) also had a faint smell of urine, which wasn’t the best sell.

- elena (10/5): Ottimo - Ottimo posto, centrale.
- Gabi (10/5): - I’m so grateful for this place!! This was the perfect place to stay and for my first time to London by myself I felt so safe there. It was extremely clean, easily accessible, and everything I could’ve needed for a price that worked for me and made a trip to London possible. If you’re a solo traveler this is perfect and a major step above a hostile.

- Juliana (8/5): - It's a lovely facility, but I had booked a female only dorm and a man went into the shower when I was there. I let reception know and they were apologetic, but not sure if anything was done about it. They thought that maybe the man was a guest in one of the rooms.
- Elaine (10/5): -
- Janet (9/5): - Amazing, ornate building with very well maintained facilities. The courtyard is beautiful. Beautiful refectory where guests can purchase meals.
Good, quiet location near Russell Square underground, supermarkets and cafes.
Lovely room with private facilities. Security was excellent and someone was always available at the reception desk.
I would stay here again. I'm sure it was in hand to be dealt with but one corridor on the ground floor of the other building had an awful odeur of stale urine.
I found it difficult to purchase a coffee in the evening (Sunday service?) - Freddie's bar seemed to close about 8 and I was told that the coffee machine in the main refectory was turned off at 7pm. Not sure if there was a communal kitchen to use but it wasn't mentioned during check-in.

- Jason (10/5): It’s okay! - Not the closest to tube or bus stops. Info not clear as too which building you are actually in as there are two. The mattress as so lumpy and uncomfortable both in a double and single bed. The show had good pressure but in the first room before we moved the shower attachment was broken.
- Suwit (10/5): - Just good enough for the best stay in London. The most convenient location. Only shared bathroom is no big deal. The facility is clean.

- Kerrie (8/5): - Close to tube station, restaurants & grocery store.
Easily walkable area, good security.
Able to pay for meals which are very reasonably priced, usually 2 choices.
Laundry available again very reasonable price.
The negative for some people is shared shower room & toilets for basic room.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Kim (7/5): Location was excellent. Price was good for London. - Location was excellent. Price was good for London.
- Molly (8/5): Simple and clean stay in a good location - Nice location, clean room, kind staff, good value for money A bit challenging to find, there are two buildings and you have a 50/50 chance of going to the one your room will be. However they are close by each other and staff at reception is super helpful
- Angela (10/5): Best-kept secret in London! - This place is AMAZING! A room that took me back to my first year uni days (but much bigger and nicer) in a wonderful area of Bloomsbury. Breakfast in the Great Hall, original art everywhere, beautiful outdoor spaces and lovely, helpful staff. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. And ridiculously cheap, too!
- Sophie (8/5): -
- Thomas (9/5): - Great facility. My room has modern furniture. The bed is very comfortable. The breakfast is excellent. On the last day, the lift failed. To carry my luggage down two levels at 5am was challenging. Apparently, it happens frequently.
- Ding (8/5): Overall great, will consider coming back - Good facilities, food ok and convenient; within 15-min walk lots of supermarkets and good restaurants Stayed here for a week but no housekeeping service; would be better if the staff can come to at least clear dustbin
- Pascal (9/5): -

- Laura (9/5): affordable, clean and safe basic stay in London - pristine clean room, quiet street outside, all the basics and i appreciated the private bathroom
