Guest Reviews
- Deborah (10/5): - We were greeted immediately and given a tour of the place. Our host was very informative and helpful. The beds very comfortable, rooms quiet, and the breakfast meals and variety were amazing.
- Richard (10/5): - Beautiful location. Hosts were gracious and shared helpful information about local attractions as well as fascinating perspective on local culture, language and history which was much appreciated by these first time visitors from the USA.
- Geoff (10/5): Hidden gem - We have stayed in many b&b over the years, some very good and some a bit dire.
Mill Lodge surpasses anywhere that we have stayed in before. Kelvin is an excellent and enthusiastic host. We had quite a few chats and put the world to rights!!
Kelvin is also an excellent chef and we have never had such tasty cooked breakfasts.
We are more than happy to recommend Mill Lodge and we shall return in the future, I'm sure.
- Clare (10/5): - Lovely property in a good area to explore the brecon beacons ! . Spacious room , welcoming friendly hosts and a fabulous breakfast!
- Maureen (10/5): - Everything about Mill Lodge was exceptional. From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. Special breakfast to die for. Great bed, ensuite, walks on the river and quaint town. You will love staying here.
- JOSEPHINE (10/5): - From the moment we arrived we were welcomed into the B&B and offered refreshment after a long journey. The rooms were immaculate and the breakfast choices were superb. Best cooked breakfast I have had in a long time. The host was very knowledgeable about the area and after we had attended a wedding ensured there was fresh milk for us to make a drink when we got back late in the evening. Thoroughly recommend. Beautiful walks just a short stroll from the door.
- David (10/5): Family visit - It was just an overnight stop whilst visiting family in the area
- Richard (10/5): Excellent! - Mill Lodge is located in a quiet side street with pubs and food shopping nearby. Our compact accommodation was very clean, cosy, comfortable and had all we needed, with a generous supply of teas, coffee and Welsh cakes in the room. At breakfast, there was a wide choice of quality ingredients to choose from, carefully prepared and presented in impeccable style. A nice touch was the freshly squeezed orange juice. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful.
- Alison (10/5): - Had a wonderful stay, lovely host and extremely welcoming. The room was perfect,
it had everything you need for a stay. The breakfast was outstanding! Will definitely be back in the future.
- Pauline (10/5): - A beautiful property well maintained by the owners who were extremely warm & welcoming. Very comfortable room & a lovely breakfast.
- Alison (10/5): - Beautiful house in a lovely location. Very hospitable hosts who welcomed us into their kitchen for a pot of tea on arrival. They gave us lots of information about the area and good places to eat. Spotlessly clean room with lovely toiletries. Good quality tea and coffee and Welsh Cakes. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and of the best quality. We will definitely stay here again.
- Gregory (10/5): - Our accommodation was conveniently located in the village of Gilwern. A comfortable quiet room with an excellent breakfast in the morning. It was ideal for our needs.
- Carol (10/5): - Absolutely Awesome!!! We knew from the moment we walked in that we were headed for a lovely stay! Hosts are outstanding! Friendly, caring, intelligent, helpful, etc, etc! Even fixed our GPS!!! The breakfast was picture-perfect, excellently prepared, and absolutely delicious with a wide assortment of options! The room and bath were 'squeaky' clean, attractively furnished, amply supplied, and spacious! I could go on and on, but by now you know that if we are ever in the area, we will definitely stay here again! We did not want to leave! They made us feel special - better than family! - Paul (10/5): Mill Lodge Stay - Excellent stay with Kelvin & Meryl , a very warm welcome over a cafetière of coffee in the kitchen. The room was excellent with a large wall mounted tv complete with streaming services. Coffee & Tea making facilities with a bonus packet of welshcakes.
Nice large shower with nice toiletries. Breakfast was exceptional , we had full cooked with toast , orange juice , tea & coffee. Obviously quality ingredients cooked perfectly. Would definitely stay again.
- David (10/5): - Very friendly hosts and willing to accommodate however needed. Great food option for breakfast and very helpful to inform of places to visit and paths to walk. Would love to visit again for longer in the future.
- Gary (10/5): Hidden Gem in GILWERN - Had a lovely room, very modern & clean… en suite was perfect and showers were powerful…. The owners made sure we had everything we needed, and they were fantastic, we had delicious breakfasts, which were very well presented, can’t fault it… definitely be coming back!!
- George (10/5): Great place - This place is great. The property was beautiful and the hosts were very friendly and interesting. The breakfasts were outstanding.
- Claire (10/5): - It was all just lovely. Facilities were beautiful and the attention from Kel was top level.
- Geoffrey (10/5): - Great host who helped in numerous ways. Very difficult to find until you figure the Street name in Expedia is in Welsh and Sat Nav eventually found it. The locals in the area had no idea where it was and then could not give clear instructions. A sign at the street entrance beside the Gas Station would be helpful plus another on the specific B and B. The host helped park the car as very difficult entry. Fascinating old MIll Town and good pub.
- Clinton (8/5): Weekend break - Lovely stay in a peaceful location.
- Lisa (10/5): Always brilliant - I love staying here Kel & Mel are perfect hosts and Kels breakfasts are superb!
Location is great. Pub with great food a short walk away. Very friendly always warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Welsh cakes in the room lovely little gift and fresh milk!
- Dennis (10/5): - I will definitely come back again. Kevin and his wife are amazing people and their house is so clean. I had a transportation issue getting to the place. Kevin offered to picked me up around 11pm and I was very appreciative of him. Breakfast was too good and it’s so peaceful.
- Anne (10/5): So stylish, elegant and wonderful - We booked 2 double rooms for a night and were delighted with the location, simple and sufficient rooms and sumptuous breakfast - all delivered by a friendly and eager host, keen to share ideas and inputs on the area when we asked. Great security and room locks with upgraded tv service. Ask for glasses if you want a drink in your room - he is more than willing to help make your stay even better.
- Karl (10/5): Mill lodge, everything and more. - Mill lodge was an excellent property, in a fantastic location. Owner was very pleasant and did everything possible to ensure I had an enjoyable stay. Would recommend to anyone. Look forward to my next visit.
- David (10/5): Excellent Stay - Excellent service, clean, very friendly and in a good location. Would thoroughly recommend.
- Adam (10/5): Great B&B in a friendly village - Mel and Kel were truly welcoming offering a cup of tea on arrival after a long journey. The room was a decent size and very clean (only miss for us was no chairs to sit on). Breakfast was delicious and with good quality ingredients cooked fresh, and some premium touches like vine tomatoes in a balsamic sauce and the alternative of smoked salmon, asparagus and caviar with poached egg In hollandaise. Gilwern is handy for the Brecon Beacons, the Monmouthshire & Brecon canal and the world heritage site at Blaenavon; it has some nice pubs for dinner / drinks.
- Lisa (10/5): Little Gem - Amazing place to stay. Owners so welcoming and can’t do enough for you. Breakfast is amazing
- Melih (10/5): Great Experience - This was a great stay for me, extremely clean and in a very good condition. Parking is easy on site, owners are great people. Delicious breakfast in the morning and no rush for the check out. Definitely recommended.

I will be back
- Jeff (10/5): - Fan - tastic !!
Great hosts....great location...great breakfast !!
- Dennis (10/5): - Very friendly and informative hosts. Clean and quiet location well placed to explore the national park. Lovely breakfast.
- Thomas (10/5): - Absolutely amazing stay, really friendly, great advice regarding local trails and super breakfast, cannot praise enough. Thank you.
- Nigel (10/5): Lovely Experience - This property is wonderful. The host, Kel, and hostess, Mel, were delightful and extremely friendly and helpful, throughout my stay in the Beacons. Offering guidance on my cycling activities. Kel cooks one of the finest breakfasts i have experienced. I woke up this morning dreaming of his smoked salmon with asparagus, hollandaise and poached egg. Alas, my own kitchen offed only cornflakes! Mill Lodge is well placed to explore the beacons. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anybody
- Karl (10/5): Super hosts and an amazing breakfast! - Kel & Mel were the perfect hosts and could not have been more helpful during our stay. Kel's knowledge of the area (he's also a photographer, and therefore knows exactly where to go) was worth its weight in gold, and barely a breakfast went by where we didn't leave the table armed with a (hand-drawn!) map of where we were heading that day - invariably with lots of additional info that you can't glean from Google!
His breakfasts, too, were superb! Fantastic produce and utterly delicious.
If you're planning on exploring the Brecon Beacons, Mill Lodge is THE place to stay.

- Steve (10/5): Comfortable Stay with Gourmet Breakfast - Very comfortable stay with friendly and welcoming owners. - Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, comfortable and a delicious breakfast. Great location
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The address was slightly confusing in that some reference is made to Abergavenny not Gilwern.
- Kevin (10/5): - Really nice place to stay and friendly service
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The area is great for walkers. There is a canal and towoath immediately behind the property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place will stay again room was spotless modern and comfortable. High speed WiFi as well
- shelley (10/5): - Nice and cosy, lovely food and the welsh cakes in the room were a nice touch.
Difficult to spot the house in the dark, but the owners keep and eye out for you to ensure you find it OK
- Nick (10/5): Faultless experience! - Absolutely loved Mill Lodge - fantastic hosts who went above and beyond. Such a good destination for exploring the Brecon Beacons and a really comfortable place to come back to.
Added to that one of the best breakfasts I have had at a BnB or hotel - we were stuffed by the end and had to climb a mountain just to walk it off.
I would 100% recommend Mill Lodge and will be returning in the future!
- Andrew (10/5): Clean, quiet and cosy. - Welcoming owners, very helpful regarding local knowledge of places to eat etc.
Was even offered a lift in and out of town so I could drink with my evenekng meal.
Quiet location on bottom edge of the Brecon Beacons.
Great freshly cooked breakfast.
Recommended place to stay.
- Jeff (10/5): - Great place, great hosts....keep trying to rebook...but its full !
- Jill (10/5): - This is a quirky b&b run by a fabulous couple who are so accommodating. Kelvin even drove us to the next village/town for choice of venues for dinner & picked us up afterwards. Thanks Kelvin.
- Paul (10/5): Beautiful B&B on the edge of the Brecon Beacons - Spectacular location, comfortable rooms, delicious breakfast, kind owners. This little B&B and the surrounding area was one of the highlights of our trip to the UK.
