Guest Reviews
L'accueil chaleureux
La taille de la chambre
Le petit déjeuner qui vaut le coup
- Kyle (10/5): Old world manor living - Stunning old country manor ideally situated about a 9min drive from Amboise and ideally located for visiting nearby chateaux’s
- Penny (8/5): A lovely place with a couple of things needing a little attention - The chateau was lovely, set in to the hillside overlooking a river. The room was very pretty - typically french with a lovely window and beautiful views. We didn't use the downstairs sitting room but it looked lovely and comfortable. We liked everything but felt a couple of things were missing. There was only a solid shampoo bar - no conditioner or shower gel which was disappointing. There was only one waste bin and I felt we really needed one in the bathroom - not just outside the door. The linens on the the bed (Very comfortable!) were lovely but the pillowcases were a bit stained in places which was just a little off putting!
- Jenny (10/5): The chateau was unique and charming, and our room was just beautiful. - The property is absolutely unique, and the room was beautifully appointed. The access to the property is a little tight for drivers inexperienced in French driving conditions.
- Ryan (10/5): Beautiful property in the Loire valley which we felt very welcomed to, we loved our stay! - The property was amazing, very cosy and homely and the hosts made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was also great, excellent value for money with outstanding quality local produce.
No repetiría.

- Anne (9/5): -
- Danièle (9/5): Très chouette endroit . - Accueil , calme , situation près du centre ville
- Maria Carolina Angel (9/5): Our room was amazing and we had a great weekend! -
- Olivier (10/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Must stay if in the area !! - What a beautiful place to stay. There were so many common areas, the room was excellent and the host/owner team was amazing.
- Anna (10/5): -
- Alexander (9/5): Amazing authentic chateau with great atmosphere and views - Excellent authentic chateau, very nice and quiet with great views. Super nice host, very good breakfast (charged separately). Nice shower. It might be a little cold in the chateau in winter.
- Martyn (8/5): Relaxing, comfortable and quiet. - Proximity to Amboise. The unusual nature and charm of the location and the accommodation. The helpful staff. The very narrow vehicular entrance to the courtyard - but you get used to it.
- Kathryn (9/5): - Différent! Lots of Character Bit hard to get the car in and out
- Heather (8/5): Quaint Chateaux - Old world charm and quaint rooms. Our room was up some very narrow stairs, which was difficult with cases. There was not enough clear signage, as to where the Chateaux was and the driveway awkward.
- Charlotte (10/5): A wonderful stay, highly recommended - Beautiful architecture, lovingly restored Nothing
- Cesar (10/5): -
- Stephanie (10/5): A lovely peaceful, charming place. Loved being there - Charming, beautiful location and view, wish I could have had time and used the pool! Very peaceful setting and lovely grounds. Breakfast very good. Nice staff The narrow staircase to the room 😉
- Katarina (10/5): Außergewöhnlich gut! - Tolle Lage, eine sehr nette Gastgeberin.
Perfektes Frühstück in tollem Ambiente.
- Bernard (10/5): - Beautiful
- Cindy (9/5): - Very beautiful property with old world charm but modern room.
- Bella (6/5): - Property has french charm. Spacious rooms. Basic & Clean facilities. Friendly staff.
Wifi connections was available but only in certain areas of room.
- Bohlman (10/5): Fantastic, would recommend. - The property was beautiful. The history of the property is fascinating. The host was very kind and helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast each morning. We enjoyed our stay. Property is a short ride into town. Unfortunately it was very wet during our stay in the valley, which made it difficult to fully appreciate all the benefits of the property.
- Hayley (10/5): -
- Ryan (10/5): - A beautiful stay in the cave on property. The whole Chateau is beautiful with incredible service and a nice breakfast.
Would love to return.
- Jochen (9/5): -
- Katarina (10/5): -
- Maria Laura (7/5): Nice location, poor cleaning service and staff not friendly - The property and location are very nice, you can relax and have a nice time especially for vacations. Unfortunately, one day our room was not cleaned, and when we claimed about this the answer was “the girls forgot to clean the room”. So after that, the experience was not the best.
- Kurt (9/5): Stay in Authentic Chateau - This is really cool old Chateau; we stayed in the troglodyte suite, it was truly unique. It was naturally cool, a bit too humid, but liveable. Need to pack light since there’s a set of stone stairs to get to the suite. Beautiful view from an outside soaking tank. Really good breakfast. It’s part of the uniqueness, but the stairs are somewhat uneven.
- Bryony (10/5): - Amazing setting, very picturesque property. Our room was situated within a small rock face, it was absolutely amazing. Very well equipped and the sauna and hot tub was a luxurious touch! Great base for exploring nearby Amboise, about a 5-10 minute drive. Perfect!
- Trupti (9/5): Beautiful location property with lovely views across the Loire Valley. - Lovely, quiet property with a number of different sized self contained units, some of which are built into the side of the rockface. Nice size swimming pool, although we didn’t use this facility as the weather was fairly cool and it is unheated.
Staff were very helpful and approachable and happy to make restaurant reservations for you, if desired. Breakfast is available onsite at an additional cost but we didn’t take this up as we are not big breakfast eaters.
Liked the eco friendly toiletries provided and the disposable slippers. Nespresso coffee machine provided with a couple of pods too. Not much that’s negative to say. Only that we had the family annex and the downstairs toilet had an unpleasant odour.
- Tal (10/5): Exceptional - The Chateau is amazing, the gardens are beautiful and the pool is great.
Good breafast
- Verified traveler (10/5): Loved our stay! - Gorgeous building and very friendly staff. I would highly recommend staying here. Minutes from Amboise. Very relaxing and beautiful.
- Kathryn (10/5): - The Chateau was such a beautiful and peaceful area to stay. Our host Veronique was attentive and responsive. Breakfast at the Chateau was lovely and tasty. The Family suite was modern in a unique old setting. The pool was invigorating. The grounds are picturesque and quintessential French with flowers in stone containers in a tranquil setting.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional - The Chateau is a lovely oasis outside of Amboise. Veronique and her staff made our stay even better with their cheerful helpfulness in reserving restaurants and answering questions. We stayed in the little annex, which sits in the courtyard. I was a little worried about noise since it is close to the parking area, but it was nice and quiet at night. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
- Hannah (10/5): - We loved our stay at Château de Nazelles! Everyone was so welcoming and kind (including sweet Poppy!) and the setting cannot be beat. Just tucked away enough to feel like a private oasis but an easy and quick drive into Amboise, which was a perfect home base for exploring the rest of the Loire. Hope to be back soon, especially when the stunning pool is open!
- Nicole (9/5): Good location with charm. Could use an update on the matress - Very very cute and charming property! Looked like it was out of a fairy tale! Very close to Ambrose by car. The mattress was very hard and uncomfortable to sleep on.
- Lindsay (10/5): It’s like a fairy tale! - Like stepping into a fairy tale! We absolutely loved our stay. What a special historic place, so lovingly restored and maintained. Veronique and her staff were above and beyond welcoming, warm, and helpful. We loved everything about our stay, from the thoughtful eco-friendly touches to the delicious breakfast to the gorgeous grounds, which you could easily wander about and enjoy at your leisure. If you are looking for a unique home base in the Loire Valley for your chateaux road trip, this is perfect. Just keep in mind that you need a car, as there’s not much you can walk to in the immediate area (although there is a delightful bakery right down the lane!). We had our dinners in nearby Amboise, which had free parking and offered lots of dining options. I will never forget the view of a sunrise and mist in the valley down below, from the gorgeous Chateau de Nazelles!
- Yulia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Renae (10/5): Beautiful property in a quiet location & friendly staff! - Beautiful property in a quiet location & friendly staff! Enjoyed our stay in one of the Troglodyte rooms & walking around the property. The only negative was that we were never able to connect to the WiFi, but since my cellphone had reception, it was only a minor inconvenience.
- Oconnell (10/5): Our hostess was extremely helpful. She had great suggestions for restaurants in Amas and also arranged for transportatio - This is a historical property with interesting architecture and unique surroundings. A little tricky to find unless you follow the directions from the proprietor, which are very clear. Also a narrow driveway, which is not meant for large cars or vans.
- Yimeng (10/5): Exceptional - So special. We planned to go to Chenonceau the next day, so I was amazed to find out that this chateau was built by the same couple who built Chenonceau. We stayed in the private suite at the top of a small hill. Should have packed lighter because there were some stairs. It was definitely worth it. Luxury cave experience with great facilities.
- Rudolph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melanie (8/5): - We had a difficult time with checking in. At first we could not find anyone or even the front desk. The instructions say to go to the front desk but it was closed even though we were within the open hours. We didn’t get great instructions when checking in and had trouble with the locks.
The property is stunning but a long way from any amenities. Not walkable to any restaurants. The host was kind enough to call a taxi for us to go into town for dinner because it can apparently be difficult to get a taxi there.
The breakfast was the best we had in France! Fantastic fresh local foods and friendly service.
- Mihaela (10/5): - We felt like we were transported in the past but with the present trims, everything was great.
- Joan (10/5): Wonderful Charming 16 Century Chateau location, nestled 10 min from busy Amboise . - Veronique spoke wonderful English and was able to help every day to recommend restaurants and book reservations. The breakfast was not really worth $15 E, and it was awkward to ask for every little bite they offered.
Wevwould have liked to be able to drink our own wine purchased at the wine tasting locations across France. We were told we needed to buy the wine from Chateau Nazelles, which was new to us as we had stayed there 10 years ago.
The WIFI was annoying as it rarely worked in the room. I believe they will change this.
- Kim (10/5): Memorable location and all positives! - The breakfast was fantastic. The place beautiful. Only wish we had more time. Dinner recommendations and reservations for us so appreciated.
- Priscilla (10/5): - A unique stay, a step into the past with all modern comforts, with owners who live on the property who care about the environment.
Absolutely unforgettable (plus a great breakfast.
- Susan (10/5): A wonderful place in a beautiful part of France - What’s not to like about staying in a 500 year old castle? Wonderful view from our castle window, beautiful gardens surrounding the chateau, warm and welcoming staff and close to all the major chateaux and the beautiful town of Amboise. Steep stairs to our room in the turret, but that goes with the territory, and the helpful staff carried our 2 suitcases up the stairs for us.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Veronique was an amazing host. She was kind and thoughtful and made sure to take care of every need. We will be back!
- Crystal (10/5): - The Chateau is lovely and an experience in and of itself. The grounds and views were gorgeous. The rooms are beautifully updated and comfortable. Finding the property was a little tricky the first time as our GPS took us on the wrong road. You are about a 10 min drive to Amboise. We really enjoyed our stay.
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diane (10/5): - The use of the existing buildings is amazing…all of the modern comforts and beautiful gardens. The proprietor and staff was very professional, kind and helpful! We had an amazing stay!
- Victoria (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay! The property was lovely and our room was very cozy. The location was perfect for visiting Amboise and the Châteaus in the Loire Valley. Lastly, we loved having fresh and local breakfast each morning.
- Charlie (8/5): Very good -
- Sam (10/5): - A real highlight for us and a perfect honeymoon stop on our French roadtrip. A standout location with the most stunning pool- pure luxury. The hosts couldn't do more to help us & were on hand whenever we needed them. The local town is definitely worth exploring! Just beautiful. We'd love to go back for longer. Highly recommend!
- Nadia (10/5): Beautiful, great location, high recommend - We had a wonderful time at the chateau! The grounds were breathtaking and had such a relaxing atmosphere. Our room was super comfortable and spacious, perfect for our family of three. We all really loved the breakfast and pool areas too. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, which made our stay even better! N/A
- Sean (10/5): - I visited this property in August 2024 with my wife and 3 kids. We stayed in the annex and were very happy with our visit.
This is an amazing property. One of a kind. The pool is so unique. The property and surroundings are built into a steep cliff and so well preserved.
The annex is a really nice space. It is not super private. Like most of France, no A/C (there was a wall unit in the kids attic room but it didn't work great as far as I could tell, but they didn't mind) and no screens, so we had windows open. It was a little hot and uncomfortable for me. Not too many bugs. Just across the courtyard were other rooms, but everyone was very quiet (except our kids). The kitchen has lovely big windows but is exposed to the other guests, again, wasn't a big issue. The bedroom was beautiful.
The breakfast was good as well. Overall very pleased. Hard to find much to nitpick about. Short drive to Amboise. Excellent communication especially pre-visit. Staff was helpful and pleasant.
- Raymond (10/5): Exceptional - Really authenticate old French property with some modern upgrades to a high standard What's not to like
- Alice (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice little château to relax after a day of sightseeing around Amboise. We very much enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was with only local produce and very tasty, can definitely recommend it!
- Grace (10/5): - An unbelievable stay. To call it “historic” is an understatement. The property is quintessentially, pristinely French- everything we hoped it would be. Comfortable too. Stay here if you have a car or bike as it’s not within walking distance to central Amboise. Wonderful breakfast.
- Alina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): 10/10 - would stay again. Hope to soon! - Beautiful location! Nice and comfortable It was all excellent
- Rachael (10/5): One of the most incredible hotel stays we have experienced, do not hesitate booking your stay, you won’t regret it! - A magnificent fairytale stay. My biggest regret is that we only booked for one night. Our trip felt like luxury from our arrival; we were greeted by wonderful staff who allowed us to check in early. Despite other hotel guests, the chateau felt like our own haven with plenty of space around the pool, gardens and spacious bedroom area; the sound of the birds and the gardeners floating around the grounds offered relaxation with incredible views. The staff were flawless and couldn’t do enough for us, even offering us a ride into town for our meal (we recommend L’Ecluse - booking required!). The breakfast was sensational with a wide range of pastry, bread, fruit and their own honey; we were asked for personal preferences and fresh juice and boiled eggs were presented. The local wine offered an even further essence of authenticity which we enjoyed looking over the Loire Valley from the garden. The pool area is unique and like nothing we have experienced before, a suntrap all day long with comfortable loungers. Poppy the dog was additionally a great member of the team! Thank you Veronique, Rhiannon and the team for your incredible hospitality; we will be back! Not a dislike as such, as the distance is advertised, but it would take 50 minutes to walk into Amboise from the hotel so be aware of this if you do not have a car or transport - however the lovely owner provided us with a ride down to the town and we got a taxi ride back up. Incredible town, do not let this put you off! Plenty of transport options.
- Claire (9/5): Superb -
- Alex (9/5): Perfect. - We had a great stay. Veronica was really nice and very helpful, happy to share lists of recommended restaurants etc.
The hotel itself was idyllic, perhaps one of the most picturesque settings we’ve stayed. Local walks through vineyards, a great bakery nearby. Really couldn’t ask for more. Only minor thing was the lack of Wi-Fi in our room (which we were warned may not reach that particular room). If we had that this would have been perfect 10/10.
- Michael (10/5): Most idyllic setting - will return - Breakfast was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful Directions to the property
- traci (8/5): - Unique and beautiful property! One of my favorites on our tour of Northern and central France. The only downfall was the dampness. There was a smell of mildew in the room. If you’re sensitive to this, it is a problem. I believe this could be dealt with, with the addition of Eric, exchangers or dehumidifiers. Everything else was exceptional, including the beauty of the grounds, the service and the beautiful breakfast.
- Taylor (9/5): Fantastic place, awesome view - Wonderfull old building with great views No close by restaurants
- larry (10/5): - It was like taking a step back to the 14th century...With a great bathroom! The whole property is beautiful. The modern bathroom and shower is 21st century with radiant heat in the floors. All of the staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was awesome. Thanks to Veronic and Rayanon.
- Logan (9/5): Beautiful, fairytale chateau that is close to Amboise town. It’s amazing! - - Beautiful property that legitimately looks like a fairytale
- Staff is absolutely wonderful
- Using the hot tub in the cave was so fun, and only $15
- Local wines, beers for sale for a very reasonable price
- Comfy bed
- Wonderful bathroom - Due to the property being surrounded by nature there were a few ants and spiders in the room. Not much they could do about this, and didn’t retract from our stay.
- Zoe (8/5): Ideal location for our 3 night stay - Bathrooms
Gardens
Breakfast
Friendliness and helpfulness of English waitress Difficult Access
No spoons for drinks
No bin in bedroom
No heater and bathroom mirrors too high in smaller bedroom
- Natalie (10/5): Perfect stay in the center of Loire valley - Beautiful chateau comfortable accommodations for a family Seasonal ants in the kitchen.
- Summer (10/5): Perfect location and charm - We stayed in the family annex which was very spacious and wonderful. Perfect location for seeing the chateau valley.
- Greg (9/5): Superb -
- Caroline (10/5): Charming, full of character, good value for money! - Old property, full of charm and character… Lovely rooms, all different, all very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Delicious breakfast. Lovely staff - we had a very warm welcome and happy stay. Nothing!
- Anastasiya (8/5): A good place for a couple at the beginning of autumn to spend at least 2 days (we had 1 only) and explore surroundings a - The feeling of a real small castle and history overall. Small but nice breakfast. Car parking. They have small charging station for vehicles (2 connection points) - we didn’t check the price but in case you didn’t make it to the nearest charging station - it could save you. The stairs. We cannot get our suitcases up - it was too steep. But it is part of the property’s entourage so we took only what we needed from the car.
- Hillyer (8/5): - Really liked the grounds and how private the areas were. Really enjoyed the hot tub in the limestone cave.
Would have liked having someone on site that could make dinner reservations or provide recommendations regarding wineries or other activities. We also would have appreciated knowing that breakfast needed 30 min or more notice. Towels were not very soft. Room was very nice and bed was quite comfortable.
- OBIE (6/5): - Aerial photo deceptive from ground level "Chateau" it is just and old building nothing special or memorable. Annex room remodeled in good condition spacious. No microwave or mini refrigerator.
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- Barbara (10/5): I'd come back here! - Shabby chic, old with modern touches. Beautiful flowers, sitting areas.
- Peter (10/5): If you can get a reservation, stay here!! - We liked the overall property, our room, the breakfast, and the staff. The pictures of this facility don't lie...it is wonderful. We liked everything.
- Lavonne (8/5): Very good - Great location, helpful staff,
Wonderful breakfast. Creaky floor, many stairs.
- Susan (10/5): - We only had one quick night here, but the room was clean and spacious. The property itself is just beautiful … we enjoyed exploring the grounds. Would have loved to stay longer.
- Tim (9/5): delightful place to stay - Superb breakfast, Amazing pool, lovely views and surroundings, beautiful buildings, very handy for Amboise
- Sarah (10/5): Refuge - Beautiful location, beautiful estate, just stunning.
- Timothy (8/5): We really enjoyed our stay, but we probably didn't select the best room for us. Otherwise very good - Very pleasant and helpful owner. Historic property with lots of character and a convenient location for exploring the Amboise area. The Troglodyte room we chose probably wasn't the best choice.
- Louise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Xavier (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (10/5): Magical stay! - The property was nestled in a beautiful area and was perfect for our plans to visit chateaux and relax. We loved taking a bottle of wine with a baguette and cheese into one of the lovely gardens, sometimes by ourselves and other times joined by others who were staying there. The whole stay was wonderful! We were worried at first when we learned that there was no air conditioning ( there was a heat wave when we visited) but it ended up not really bothering us; the owner let us use a fan in the room and it kept us comfortable at night.
