Guest Reviews
- Louise (9/5): Great place to stay, warm & welcoming ! - We were welcomed & booked in by our host. The pub is quirkily decorated, in a good way & the landlady has an inspired, decorating theme throughout. Food was lovely, the guys behind the bar were very friendly & we hardly had to wait for our food. It was a busy garden which on a Thursday evening was unusual, it was planted really well & I can imagine will look fab in the summer. Great guest ales too. This was the start of our journey on the South Downs Way & although it is a bit of a walk to the start, it is a lovely route as you follow the river (ignore the road way & follow the path) saw beautiful properties along the way & a safer route to walk too. The pub was in a peaceful, tree lined residential area. We weren't expecting breakfast as it wasn't included in the price but there were fresh blueberry muffins, homemade granola bar, yogurt & milk provided with teas & coffee, which was a nice touch. Lovely stay around & would recommend & definitely stay there again if I go to Winchester again. Not the fault of the pub but a couple of people who were staying were very noisy coming back late & woke us up.
- Samantha (7/5): - The pub was easy walking distance to many attractions, eating venues and the main shopping street.
Interior design and decoration used bold colours and lots of old prints.
- Laura (9/5): King Alfred fairytale room - Very cut family hotel. The room was very nice, the feeling was like we came back in the history, that old english vibe. Every detail has it own purpose. A hallway and stairs straight, like something from a fairytale.
- Ann (10/5): Fabulous pub stay - What a lovely pub stay. Staff went over and above to make everything great. Food was top notch, and those breakfast muffins were the best. Absolutely nothing!
- Rene (9/5): -
- Nici (10/5): Lovely pub stay, would stay again. - Cosy and great location
- Vilius (8/5): -
- Richard (8/5): Overnight stay 12 May 26 - Located in a quiet residential area about 10-15 walk into town. The room was comfortable and the bathroom had a walk-in shower. There was a mini fridge with fresh milk, joghurt, Satsumas, granola and a couple of nice muffins. Downstairs, the pub has a cosy atmosphere and comfortable seating. The TV reception in the room was weak, making some channels like BBC1 unwatchable due to digital pixilation and accompanying sound distortion.
- Mario (10/5): Excelente - Todo maravilloso….
- Richard (9/5): Great location and the hotel is full of character - Situated a short walk from the High Street it had all the facilities we needed for a short stay. Access was simple and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was also a continental breakfast included in the price! Nothing at all
- Jen (8/5): -
- Nigel (9/5): A comfortable night with friendly staff who made the stay even more special. - Homely with a lot of personality. staff were very friendly Not enough parking
- Jan (9/5): Comfortable stay, friendly helpful staff. - The staff were helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and full of lovely pictures and the pub food was very good.
- Jan (9/5): Great for a one night stay - Quirky, informative and a comfy atmosphere Water system in the bathroom was slow
- Moniek (8/5): Top!
- Martin (9/5): A hidden gem in Winchester. - The room I had was spacious and comfortable. The light breakfast was very nice. The food in the pub was excellent. The overall feeling was relaxed and easy. Nothing
- Gwen (10/5): -
- Chris (9/5): Great pub and nice room. Good location not far from the centre of Winchester. - Great pub and nice room. Good location not far from the centre of Winchester. N/A
- james (7/5): Enjoyable stay - Free parking Would have preferred somewhere to have breakfast rather than in the room as no table and chairs to sit at.
- Louisa (9/5): Lovely stay, brilliant staff and would come back - Good location and parking permit was easily done. Good walking distance to main centre and great staff. Clear instructions on getting in and out and lovely thoughtful touches with the breakfast in room. If I had to give any negative it would only be that the pillows weren’t great - although I’ve never found good pillows in a hotel room!
- christopher (8/5): -
- Colin (9/5): Nice friendly place, walking distance from centre. - Room was clean and comfortable. The basic breakfast left for us ( granola, yoghurt, real milk , muffin etc ) was very welcome. Bar area was friendly with nice beers available, and good food choices. but other than that, there's not much to fault it. Parking outside worked out well for us, as we arrived late on a Saturday afternoon, and restrictions were just ending. Would be wise to check with the pub, regarding any arrangements they may have for other times. Wine was a bit overpriced
- Joyce (10/5): - A lovely querky pub with boutique accommodation. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere - we enjoyed our stay there . There was also a complementary breakfast - granola, yogurt, and muffin in your room with fresh milk for tea/coffee Nothing all good
- Gareth (9/5): Cosy friendly hotel and pub - Lovely friendly hotel/pub in quiet location approx 10 min walk to city centre. Comfortable good sized room with TV en-suite bathroom mini fridge tea and coffee fresh milk and nice healthy breakfast of yoghurt granola and blueberry muffin All good

- f92a05553544729468d3fd09c375baa5 (9/5): A lot of thought is put in to make your stay very comfortable - Very comfortable beds and very quiet location Breakfast was provided in the room but we had to ask for our breakfast plates to be cleared and breakfast provided on the second day as this wasn’t done when the room was serviced
- 375e0f2ee0ac72eb01a901f3153b5ae6 (9/5): - Great pub, great location. We had a twin room and was very clean and comfortable. Even got some yogurt, granola and fruit to see us off on our way early.
We also ate dinner here, burgers were great!
Large beer garden with plenty of space and some good beers on the bar.

- 60dcb426b0e3734191242260e55d3f13 (9/5): - Comfortable room lots of tea and coffee. Beds made up every day. Going up the stairs with our luggage and coming down again

- Erik (9/5): Friendly pub hotel in quiet location. - Very nice and friendly pub hotel. Quiet location a short walk from the city centre. Nothing in particular.
- Maribel (9/5): VIURE EN UN PUB AMB HISTÒRIA. Ens vam trobar molt a gust. Si tornem a Winchester o rodalies hi tornarem segur.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Great place , close to town centre , yes I would stay again - Ambience & welcoming Would have been perfect apart from finding men’s underpants , a belt & a t shirt left in drawer . This wasn’t checked & I feel a small gesture ( a glass of wine on the house ) would have been a nice apology .
- Haynes (10/5): Pure comfort, the perfect place to go if you just want to chill for a couple of days - It’s a quick walk to the city centre and far enough from the centre for it to be quiet at night for a good nights undisturbed sleep, incredibly comfy beds, spacious en-suite bathroom. The food is also excellent value for money, I paid I think £16 for the gammon and eggs and the plate was piled high! Great selection of drinks at the bar. Despite the pub being open until late, the noise from the bar could barely be heard from my room. The staff were also incredibly polite and attentive
Nichts.

- Caroline (9/5): Fantastic base for a night in Winchester. - Really friendly staff to check us in quickly and easily. Lovely pub, great atmosphere. Comfortable room. Our twin room was quite a bit smaller than the double room.
- Paul (9/5): -

- Hill (9/5): A pleasure, I'd happily stay at the King Alfred again. - Warm welcome to a lovely pub with homely rooms.
- kenneth (10/5): Lovely people. Great location - Friendly staff Nothing. Lovely place
- Laura (9/5): Pleasant stay in convenient location to centre of Winchester. - We originally booked for one night but then booked a second night a few days before arriving, I think this meant we got an upgraded room as it was quite spacious! Interesting Victorian pub, the room had everything we needed including small fridge with breakfast items (replaced for the second morning) as well as the usual tea and coffee making facilities. Shower worked well. The room was heated with electric wall heaters which were efficient. It was really quiet at night. The staff were friendly and we ate in the pub both nights - good food and service, nice atmosphere. It was a 10 minute walk into the centre of Worcester so very conveniently situated. Parking was on the road outside in area for parking permit holders but we were given a parking permit by the pub staff. Nothing
- Ulrich (10/5): -
- Gill (10/5): Perfect pub stay in a quiet location within easy walking distance from the attractions of Winchester. - Location, ambience, staff, service, food, bar, bedroom, garden, everything. Leaving!

- sally (7/5): -
- Simon (10/5): Would return again and stay longer! - The pub itself is like something out of a movie. We maybe didn’t have the fanciest of the rooms but it was still charming, comfortable and quiet. The staff were fantastic. Nothing, all good.
- Deb (8/5): - No breakfast
- Kate (8/5): Nice hotel - The staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was nice and the bed super comfy. Loved the granola and yoghurt. What a nice touch. My room overlooked the front of the pub and being the first nice evening of the year it was quite noisy- as was the local cat in the wee hours! The cleaning was a bit haphazard and I found a tooth pick on the floor by my bed and dust in a few places. Not the end of the world though.
- susan (8/5): - Friendly staff very busy evening but good atmosphere. Parking permit given for nearby road . Breakfast is in the room which is in the property details so as expected .
- Ian (9/5): -

- Heidi (8/5): Very nice place to stay. Thoroughly recommend. - Atmosphere was lovely. Very comfortable bar area. The bright red paint in the stairwell and corridors. Nearly painted, poor choice.
- Stuart (8/5): - Lovely room decor and a very nice pub in a quiet neighbourhood location. Friendly staff. A great budget option.. Breakfast could have been better - the bits provided were ok, but a little lacklustre.
- Zayne (10/5): Cute pub accommodation - The accomodation was very clean and it was above the King Alfred pub which is a very cool little pub! Vibes were great and the room was super comfortable for my stay. Staff were all incredibly lovely even letting me store my bag whilst i attended boomtown festival for 5 days. 10/10 recommend
- michelle (10/5): fabulous!!!!! - VERY CLOSE TO A MUSIC FESTIVAL steep stairs when drunk lol
Top geregeld!

- Helen (9/5): Lovely cosy pub that we’d definitely love to return to. - Lovely locals pub, very cosy, close to city centre with welcoming staff. Also very reasonably priced. Nothing really, we knew there wasn’t any cooked breakfast available but had yoghurt, muffins & granola in the room which was appreciated.
We had a problem with the kettle and/or water which we couldn’t really do anything about. There’s an emergency contact but it wasn’t worth calling about!
- Andrew (10/5): Great stay at a hidden gem. - The pub has a great chilled atmosphere and is very cosy, it's only a 10 minute walk to town, the room was spacious and the staff were excellent. Nothing
- Ian (8/5): Great convenient rooms with nice uncooked breakfasts left for us - Location Bed mattresses were too soft!
- Ruth (10/5): -
- Rebecca (5/5): I enjoyed visiting Winchester but it was a long trip to get there and the accommodation sadly was a let down. I would no - Very handy for the town centre and railway station just a few minutes walk away. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The pub seemed very busy whilst it was open over Christmas and popular with the locals. I did have to message the property with a few issues with my room.. as I was staying from the 23rd till the 27th I had limited contact with the staff who weren’t on the premises for some of the time and whilst the pub was shut. I did get moved to another room for the last night I was staying over but the trip was spoiled due to the poor standards in the original room.
- martin (8/5): Great place for stay in Winchester, easy walk to the town center and easy free parking next the Hotel by registering at - Location, room, bar Nothing

We didn’t eat any, as we wanted cooked, so went out. No cooked breakfast available.
No USB charging point in the room.
