Guest Reviews
- Danny (10/5): - Good food and bars within walking distance.
- Maureen (10/5): - Lot’s of parking. Well maintained building.Room is comfortable with a mini fridge and a coffee machine. The restaurant and bar are only open for there weeding venues. No worries:Restaurants and bars close by.
- Kenneth (8/5): - Interesting older building. Used to have a pleasant bar and restaurant.
- Julie (10/5): - Very friendly staff, spacious room and a great location to explore the town.
- Rob (10/5): - Very unique and great location within walking distance to some great dining
- Keith (8/5): - My wife and I stayed here for a couple nights. The room we were in was pretty small, but it was fine for just the two of us. Biggest compaint was that the bathroom mirror is very high off the ground and is very small. My wife has a hard time seeing in the mirror to get ready. Just add a mirror on the wall in the room somewhere to solve this problem.
The other big issue was electrical outlets. There isn't one in the bathroom, so using a hair dryer was not very convenient for my wife. Again, a mirror in the main room near an outlet would solve this issue.
- Vera (8/5): - Staff was excellent ,helpful. Liked history of Grand.
Small room, overvalued..
- Kevin (10/5): - The staff member was very friendly at the front desk. It's a boutique hotel so ceiling heights are very tall and decor match the age and heritage of the building.
- shokooh (10/5): - Old unique hotel with antique furniture!
- Melanie (10/5): - This place was amazing!! Super comfy bed!
- Marsha (10/5): - This place was gorgeous -- elegant, easy, a pleasure. We didn't ask for early check-in before we arrived, and they were able to arrange it. Everyone was kind and lovely.
- Heather (10/5): - A lovely hotel with old fashioned elegance and modern amenities!
- Joseph (10/5): - I wanted a place downtown near the canoe club park, within walking distance, for a regatta. This fits the bill. Be sure to book well ahead as there aren't many accommodation options in Carleton Place.
- joanne (10/5): - Lovely old historic inn. Staff are super-friendly and rooms/bathrooms are clean and inviting.
- Mary (10/5): - Great old hotel.. the place is set up for weddings in "ball rooms", and where there was once a pub. The room we had was very nice, comfortable bed, clean, nice staff, and we had everything we needed. There's no breakfast service in the mornings, but there are some great options nearby. The town is ideal for a stroll with cute shops, bakeries, restaurants and pubs all within walking distance, and it's a short drive to visit other towns...Definitely recommend if you are looking for a place to stay in this area.
- Roman (6/5): - Bed was very comfortable. Nice historic building, could be significantly better with more modern fixtures and better maintenance of broken bathroom tiles.
- Jeremy (8/5): - .

- Bushra (8/5): Highly recommended to stay - It’s a nice heritage hotel. AC was not working, they provided fan but we couldn’t sleep at night. Staff and owner was very polite and supportive. Overall, hotel is good however there are room to improve cleanliness.
- Roja (10/5): - We recently stayed at this very cozy boutique hotel and had a wonderful experience. The place has a charming, old-world feel with a lovely historic vibe that made it feel unique and special. The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly. Another big plus was the location there were plenty of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance, which made exploring the area so convenient.
- Michael (8/5): - Good value for the time of year. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Room was ok but we suspect it had not been used for a while and could benefit from a deep cleaning. A nice historic vibe.
- Teresa (8/5): - Loved the antique feel of the building. Shower was a little difficult to operate and drain, but totally unique to the era of the hotel. Staff was very attentive and appreciative.

- Jennifer (10/5): - Beautiful little spot!

- Verified traveler (10/5): Old world charm in Carleton Place - Beautiful historic hotel - friendly service, comfortable,.clean rooms with old charm decor. Lovely updated bathroom with rain water shower. Check-in was easy and quick.
Dining room was set up for wedding - just gorgeous!

- Thomas (10/5): - Front staff was incredible. Beat to deal with, wealth of information, offered all sorts of food and entertainment options.
Absolutely great experience
- Alan (10/5): - Charming old building - a very cosy boutique hotel. Had a little difficulty with the heating and tv but otherwise excellent. Delicious New Year’s Eve dinner and beautiful dining room and bar.
- Jason (10/5): - It was a wonderful experience.
- Ksenia (10/5): - My husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Grand, and it was nothing short of amazing! From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home. The staff were incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect.
The accommodations were luxurious and comfortable, providing the perfect backdrop for our honeymoon. Every detail was thoughtfully curated, allowing us to relax and enjoy each other's company. We particularly loved the stunning views and the exquisite dining options that added an extra touch of romance to our trip.
Overall, our experience at The Grand was unforgettable, and we can't recommend it highly enough. It's the perfect destination for couples looking to celebrate love and create lasting memories. We can't wait to return in the future!
- Jean Karl (10/5): - Staff was very friendly and helpful
- Dominique (4/5): - Unfortunately we didn’t have the best time, here’s the Cole’s notes.
Get into the room:
There’s dirty mugs on the mantle - they don’t match the set in the room so we assumed it belonged to house keeping.
There was stuff on the floor (either they didn’t vac or sweep)
Shower didn’t work - it was leaking out the top and malfunctioning.
The tub / shower / sink all had hair in them
The fire in the bedroom didn’t work so we were told if we wanted it someone would have to come up to manually mess with it. The staff who offered were lovely about this.
There was a Christmas party in the restaurant until…midnight. Which is fine, but the listing says the space is soundproof - it’s not at allllll
Found bottle caps under furniture
And there’s no curtains in anywhere other than the bedroom so it was: loud, not private (gas station has a clear view to the room) and it let a ton of light in
The staff were somewhat helpful, but not about our concerns when we left, it did get brushed off. For the price paid, I would be fine with one or two issues, but not this level.
We intended for a relaxing weekend away, and we had the opposite.
- Darren (6/5): - The hotel was lovely and the staff very nice, however, they weren’t equipped to have people checking in during the Santa Claus parade. No parking, no alternate routes. Had to come back 2 hrs later than scheduled. Once inside I was told there was only 1 room left, although I had prebooked 2 weeks in advance. The room I was shown was tiny and not what I booked. Eventually I was ‘upgraded’ (?) to the room I had originally booked. The room was lovely, clean and spacious. All of the lights (there were a lot) were controlled by remotes. This was rather confusing. The one overhead light by the door was controlled by a switch outside in the hallway. I suggest they upgrade their electrical situation. It was an interesting stay to say the least. Good location and near shops and restaurants.
- Nakuna (10/5): - The property has a historic feel and the staff is amazing. I was there for a wedding and the venue is absolutely stunning and the food was perfect. The staff was friendly and the service was perfect. The room was very comfortable and clean.
- Steve (10/5): - The room was cozy and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
- Elie (10/5): The Grand is grand - I stopped on a bike trip for a night and the staff were all friendly and accommodating despite being very busy with an on-going wedding reception! I was happy to be able to bring my bicycle up to my room for the overnight. Loved my stay. The heritage facilities are beautiful and full of great artwork and lounge furniture. The smart TV in the room was an unexpected bonus.
- Tanya (6/5): - Beautiful building. Very small king room that could of used some extra cleaning. Street noise wasn’t enjoyable. The heat didn’t work. Staff were friendly.
- Graham (8/5): - Steve the owner was great. Very friendly and welcoming. Such a unique property with tons of character
- Brigitte (10/5): - Simply amazing hotel
- Dong sheng (10/5): - Very nice place
- Lauren (10/5): - A lovely older building with easy on site parking, great location. Nice sized rooms. The bar/pub was closed but it looked fantastic.
- Andre (10/5): - People very friendly and helpful
- Bill (10/5): - Second time here, will come again. Nice neighbourhood, good eats nearby.
- Patricia (8/5): - The Grand Hotel is a unique experience from your typical travel hotel. Very elegant. Has been refurbished. Bathroom was very tiny with no place to set your toiletries but serviceable. Some small things need to fixed but overall a grand place to stay. There is no restaurant on site but the Boulton House restaurant was a great place to eat. Food was excellent and enjoyable on the patio with a view of the river.
- Jack (6/5): - Rooms are spacious but not clean to many spider webs washroom out dated and sinks when im use water is hard to drain furniture very old and dirty its not worth what we have soent for the 3 day stay thank you
- Sarah (10/5): Would absolutely stay again! - We stayed in the Imperial Suite and it was absolutely beautiful! The hotel is incredibly lovely and historic, furnishings are ornate wooden pieces - plush and comfy heavy old sofas and armchairs… we were thrilled with our room. The dining room was closed much to our sadness as we were looking forward to a meal there. We were directed to an incredible restaurant 3 blocks away in an old mill and weren’t disappointed with either the food or the outdoor seating right on the river and we were pleased to be treated to the sound of the falls as we ate. The owner of the hotel was very friendly and has his personal residence there - we knew upon discovering that fact that we had stumbled onto a gem and we would return in a heartbeat if we’re ever in the area again seeking accommodation.
Highly recommend the Imperial Suite!
- Yaw (4/5): - Beautiful property with lots of potential. Not well maintained and staffed. Dirty areas, coffee and cream out of date, bathroom cleanliness very poor no mirror or lighting for makeup and shaving. Overall cleanliness poor at best. The pub was closed and no restaurant on site. It was closed as well.
- Mohammad (10/5): - It is like a historical place from outside and it is beautiful.
- Jian (6/5): - Easy and nice city walk, fair hotel facility and bed cleaning
- Andrew (10/5): - Beautiful old style hotel.
- Nezrin (10/5): - It is a beautiful historic hotel. The decor takes you back in time. The room was spacious and clean. The service was nice and welcoming.
- Sarah (8/5): - It was lovely. The room was smaller than anticipated and the bathroom was tiny. The bed was very comfortable and loved the duvet aspect.
- Michelle (8/5): - Beautiful old historic building. Comfy bed, would definitely stay again
- Naomi (2/5): - No soundproofing, tiny rooms, musty.
- Judith (8/5): - The hotel supplies a special towel for make-up, good idea but the one in our room had hair from a previous guest on it.
- Margaret (2/5): - I showed up and hotel was in shambles. Rooms had been emptied of furniture and front desk area was a shambles. Also there was vomite on sidewalk to entrance and in lobby bathrooms. I was told I was only guest in hotel and I’d be staying there alone with no staff. I requested and received refund on the spot.
- Carol (10/5): - Perfect historical downtown location, lovely old hotel, beautifully restored.
Very helpful, friendly staff
- debrah (10/5): - Grand Hotel staff were excellent and accomodating. Highly recommend!
- Tony (4/5): - The hotel is dated witch adds to the decors charm but takes away from the stay. The staff is very pleasant and accommodating but the building needs a lot of updating and repairs. I know it was in a state of neglect prior to the current owner opening the business but perhaps the building is too far gone. I will not be returning but will reserve judgement to let another make their own determinations.
- Corinne (10/5): - This property was perfectly located to be able to walk downtown with ease, many shops, restaurants and sites. Staff helpful, all amenities available.
- Graeme (10/5): - Have stayed twice in the last few months and loved it....I am looking forward to the bar lounge being open for our next visit.
- Gerry (8/5): - Check-in was quick. Staff are friendly. Location is excellent as we were able to walk to shops & restaurants.
- Ben (8/5): Nice Master Suite - Nice room, good amount of amenities
- Jennifer (10/5): - The property was very quaint and the staff were super friendly. We did find our room a little dated and the surfaces sticky.
- Janice (8/5): - Convenient and comfortable!
- Robert (10/5): - Clean with a quality bed!
- Janice (8/5): - Pleasant staff and convenient location!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Grand - A Grand old hotel nicely refurbished but I expected a made bed and fresh towels assuming the room was cleaned
- Jamie (8/5): - Nice but dated. Shower did not work properly
- SYED (8/5): - Good classic property, could be better with a refresh.
- Jeong H (6/5): - The property was impressive in that it keeps the beauty of decades ago. However, it does not provide today's convenience. For example, the bathroom was so small and had no space for things you need. I was somewhat disappointed.
- Katica (8/5): - Very comfortable stay, would recommend to anyone who asks for a recommendation! The room was kind of small compared to larger hotels but definitely worth the stay. Sooooo many pillows were given too which was amazing since I love pillows. The room was very clean as well and the staff were so sweet!
- Darryl (10/5): - Very helpful and friendly staff. Great location for a wedding or special event.
- Carol (10/5): - We liked the elevator as we had a 3rd floor room. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Only area to improve would be a comfy chair or bench at the foot of the bed. Bathroom is very small but great smelling soap, shampoo and body wash.
- Peter (6/5): - It was less than we hoped for or expected. Had to carry luggage from rear of building to front because no entrance from parking lot. Lobby and main floor were outstanding. Our room was on 3rd floor and elevator was not in service. Our refrigerator had a spill from a previous guest that had not been cleaned. Had to order ice and glasses from front desk. Bathroom was very dark. Can’t imagine a woman trying to apply make up. Shower head needs to be replaced- it spewed water all over bathroom floor. And lastly, cable tv did not work to watch Stanley Cup playoffs. Streaming did work. This hotel has so much potential with some TLC
- Julie (10/5): - Great staff! Very friendly and accommodating!!
Thank you
- Karen (10/5): - The property was very clean and staff was most helpful
