- Lorraine (8/5): Room was very hot - Beautiful area and grounds. Courteous and helpful staff. King room had an amazingly comfortable bed and pillows. Complaints are: even though it was "cold" for our August trip (low 50 F during day) and we had the window cracked open as much as possible; it was impossibly hot in the room at night. No ventilation or AC. Front desk was apologetic but could do nothing but supply a small fan (which then kept us up all night with the noise). Fancy restaurant was.... meh, okay considering the very expensive prices. Kind of disappointed in the experience despite the beautiful place.

Breakfast area was beautiful but very limited breakfast options for those who don’t eat pork. The eggs were sweet and didn’t taste great. Every other options was a sweet option. Would be nice if they had some potatoes at least and changed their scrambled egg recipe. The boiled eggs were pretty much raw.

The area around the hotel is sparsely populated, but the scenery is beautiful and it is close to several nearby sites including waterfalls and the geothermal field. The staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant was excellent.

- Claudine (8/5): Lovely hotel 1 downside, room is too hot - Beautiful and modern hotel. Hot tubs are nice and not crowded. They have a lovely restaurant on the upper floor and the food is really delicious. We had dinner there and enjoyed it. Good spread of breakfast too. 1 major downside though, our quadroom only had one tiny weeny window and the room is really hot in summer. Like hot hot for Iceland, bearing in mind that there is no air-conditioning in Iceland. So after raising this, they gave us 2 small desk fans which honestly didn't really help much. I understand that buildings in Iceland are built to keep the cold out and would love to give this hotel 5 stars as I really love the look and feel but the room temperature is really a bugbear.

- Anthony J (8/5): Nice hotel but.... - On the positive, this hotel seems quite new and is very clean. Customer service was not as good. Additionally, while they had hot tubs, you have to pay to use a robe and towel for the hot tubs. If I had to do again, I might have just drove and stayed in Borgarnes. We picked this hotel because it was closer to the lava cave and glacier tours we were taking the following day.

The hot tub in the freezing cold was a great experience! Finally the Schnauzer in the lobby was adorable. Great stay and I wish it were longer!

Room was a little small, and blankets could have been softer, and the showers could use a door, rather than being open to the rest of the bathroom and causing water to leak all over the floor, but besides that it was a pleasant stay, beautiful area around the hotel, and very clean and high class hotel. - Emily (10/5): Wonderful hotel - The hotel was beautifully designed. The restaurant has a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains. The view from our room was fantastic well. We weren’t there long enough to experience additional facilities. The man and woman at the desk when we checked in were very helpful in trying to help us track down a lost wallet and they even let us borrow a flashlight. The bed was comfortable. My only complaint is that the sink is very small so water got splashed when I was washing my face. However this is pretty standard in Iceland so I won’t deduct any stars for that small annoyance. Breakfast was good and they had great coffee. We saw the northern lights. Overall great stay.

Staff was excellent, friendly and extremely knowledgeable of area. Mikki the dog was a lovely surprise and super cute. Food both for breakfast (included with room) and dinner were expertly prepared. We watched the Northern Lights from our bed and then took photos in the parking lot and all around the grounds. Loved the hot tubs!! Would return and stay again. Highly recommend

- Laura (8/5): - This property did not live up to my expectations- I expected it to be much nicer based on pics and reviews. Not only were the bathrooms small (as mentioned in many other reviews) but the sinks were so tiny and so low, and at such an odd angle, that it was impossible to wash my face without my feet and the floor getting soaked. There was no counter space in the bathroom. Unfortunately, we stayed there on a rainy day, and it just wasn’t the type of room. You really wanted to spend a lot of time in. On a positive note, we did have dinner there one evening, and it was excellent, both the food, the service, and the setting.

We approached the front desk and asked if he could help us reach the inn we were staying at. It turns out the police had our bag and he called the police and asked them to put the bag on Iceland air cargo and we could have it by the time we went to Reykjavik, the next day! He ended up being the assistant manager. Sure enough we got our bag when we arrived in Reykjavik. We were soooo thankful that we did not have to make the drive back to the Westfjords to pick up our bag! Service was fantastic, the food was excellent in the hotel with great views, and the hot spring bath was relaxing. Theodore at the restaurant also gave us excellent service! Prior to arriving I let the staff know we would be arriving early due to a early flight and needed to freshen up due to me proposing. They made the accommodation. I asked while we were at dinner if they could do something special in the room and they did. The host at the restaurant was very suave with letting me know that everything in the room was ready. The restaurant was an absolute treasure and I will be eating there for sure on our next visit. The rooms were super clean and beds were very comfortable

- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent Hotel - We only stayed one night but wished we would have booked for longer. Very nice hotel, very clean and the staff was excellent, friendly and informative. Highly recommend choosing this hotel for your stay.
- Leza (8/5): - I would have given it 5 out of 5 if it wasn’t for the ridiculously small bathroom sink, a cloakroom sink really…with nowhere to put your toiletries next to it…and the shower is equally a silly design; too small, shower curtain sticks to you and the water goes everywhere. BUT the staff are great, communal areas are great, the buffet breakfast is excellent and the breakfast dining room is a lovely space. Comfortable bed, had to ask for extra pillows…Icelandic hotels only seem to give one pillow each on the beds which is weird. It’s not as soundproofed as they make it out to be…we could hear people talking in the next room and people walking around in the room above…and doors opening and close. BUT (!) everyone went to sleep early because they’re all sightseeing in the nearby national park so luckily it wasn’t a big deal. Bring ear plugs just in case.
- Paul (10/5): - No staff on service after midnight (including no wakeup for Northern Lights). Small bathroom and even smaller sink. Breakfast buffer was very good and included with room. I think that was a change, and very happy. Great area of the country.
- Kimberly (10/5): Great Location for Northern Lights - Great Location for seeing the Northern Lights; which we did while we were there; Fantastic!! Daniel at the reception was terrific offering up suggestions for seeing them; and for other site seeing as well. Restaurant Calor on the top floor offers terrific views; and delicious dinners. Breakfast buffet was included. Free on site parking. Hotel does have elevator. TV in the room...this was only location where we received more than one channel. Rooms were comfortable---my only negative is a "double room" is actually 2 twin beds pushed together...that gap between the two gets wider with tossing and turning; so that woke me up a few times. We had two nights at this location. Would stay again.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - A beautiful modern property in a pristine setting near Borgarnes. Simple modern rooms. Beautiful restaurant and great breakfast.
- Chris (10/5): - Super clean, modern hotel. There's a small outcropping you can take a short hike up nearby to see over the entire area. Restaurant was on the top floor, which allowed for nice views while eating. Included breakfast was great! The hotel is in an area with only some geothermal buildings and a school around it, so if you need anything, you're driving to it.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Very nice hotel. We stayed here after a week in a camper van so the beds were like clouds. Very clean hotel with a wonderful breakfast in the morning. It is not really close to anything so unless you plan to eat before your stay plan to dine in their restaurant. Would stay here again.
- Philippe (10/5): - A bit isolated but nice. The hotel has a nice restauran and there are no real food options anywhere close, except at a gas station and at the Krauma hot baths. Note that the hotel operates it's own green house to grow vegetables and that this green house is brightly lit 24hrs a day.
- Lucinda (10/5): Hotel Varmaland near Borgarnes - Great stay at Hotel Varmaland as we drove the Ring Road. Friendly staff, comfortable beds, easy parking and clean room. We enjoyed the dinner and breakfast from their hotel restaurant. I recommend making dinner reservations if you have a preference of time.

- Deborah (8/5): Mixed review but very nice hotel - Check in staff was brusque. Kitchen staff at end of the meal were using ‘f’ word repeatedly from the open kitchen. Food was excellent. The breakfast was superb in quality and variety. Shower drain was not properly slanted so bathroom. Water filled floor around toilet. Check out gentleman was very friendly and helpful.
- AARON (10/5): Peaceful and pleasant stay - Excellent restaurant at the top of the hotel. Bathroom is a bit small, but the rest of the room is clean and pleasant. Would recommend!
