Guest Reviews
- Will (5/5): -
- Jason (7/5): Abslolutely fine for a night when you just need a comfortable place to stay. -
- Autumn (3/5): Disappointing - The location was ideal Breakfast was not included despite being charged for it, and I have been unable to get a response from the company since regarding my refund for the breakfast I was charged for.
No staff on site to speak to when there was an issue.
There was a strong smell of sewage in the bathroom when it rained.
The room was not as clean as I would like. There were stains all along the walls and cob webs everywhere.
- Hilary (8/5): - Very good and handy for Oxford by bus.
- Mujaj (10/5): -
- Maxine (10/5): Great price for Oxford and room very comfortable - Very close to Oxford Centre, bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean, only spoke to a member of staff on the phone but very helpful and polite
- Elizabete (9/5): A very good, clean guest house in excellent location, perfect for our one-night stay in Oxford. - Excellent location, just 100m from shops, restaurants and amenities of the lovely part of Oxford called Summertown. Bus stop about 50-100m away, for a quick ride to Oxford centre. Rooms were of good expected quality (considering it is an older property, a converted terraced house), had everything needed and well equipped, and was clean. The hosts were responsive (had to call them to access) and showed us around nicely. Parking was a big plus for us. It was a short one-night stay for our family of four, and the two rooms at OYO Lonsdale was a perfect base for our trip to Oxford.

- Nethindu (10/5): - The staff was really kind and friendly. The location was very convenient and the rooms were clean. Highly recommend.

- Dilwyn (3/5): We paid for two nights, however we decided to leave after the first night and book into a Premier In - Location Room was totally different in bookin.com to what they actually were. The whole building was in need of decorating.
- Elif (4/5): -
- Sara (10/5): - Lovely room and very helpful hosts.
- Aage (8/5): -
- Federico (9/5): Ottima esperienza - Stanza carina, pulita e abbastanza grande.
- Hannah (8/5): - Room was clean, comfortable and had all required amenities. Good location and parking was easy. There are quite a few guesthouses on that stretch of road and the only place it said the name of this property was on a piece of paper on the door which made it a little challenging to find when coming by car. I didn't receive any arrival instructions or information beforehand and so when I couldn't get in I had to call a number that was on the door. The person on the phone was lovely and polite, but asked me what room number I was in, but I didn't know as I hadn't received any info. Had to wait for a call back, who then gave me my room number and lockbox code. Would have been great to receive this in advance or just clear instructions on what to do. However, this was a minor point and would stay again.
- Kate (10/5): - It was warm and comfortable. The bed was small.
- Morris (8/5): Pleasant stay - It was easy to find near lots of restaurants and shops. It was comfortable and clean for the most part. It wasn't explained that we had to wait for someone from another building to come and let us in.
Multipul cobwebs in the room and the bed was very squeaky.
- Mujaj (10/5): -
- Maria Jose (9/5): -
- Jem (7/5): -
- Ben (7/5): - Neat and tidy room, comfortable bed and a decent location. Not totally clear what to do when arriving with a car.
- Arben (5/5): -
- Sneha (8/5): -
- Vlad (7/5): - Close to where I needed to be Cold room, small bathroom and shower, I would have said great value for money but considering I've recently had an excellent value for money booking for the same price, I can't say this about this stay.
- Bradley (3/5): - No staff at any point, no breakfast available like was advertised
- Barbara (8/5): -
- Barbara (8/5): - Clean, comfortable, quite spacious, great location, ideal for a short stay..... The shower was very hot and couldn't alter temperature.
- Mohit (9/5): -
- Daniel (8/5): -
- Adam Joao (8/5): - Bastante bien situado y muy cómoda cama. La luz me salto y el cuarto era un poco pequeño pero cumplía.
- Chloe (5/5): Great location, can improve essentials for the room. - Good location there was no soap to wash hands and the dispensers for the shampoo and conditioner.
- Karen (9/5): Had a great stay here… - It was close to everything we needed,
Very quiet at night.. For the price we paid you couldn’t find any faults…
- Tara (3/5): More of a hostel than a guest house. - I, unfortunately, didn't realise this is an unstaffed hotel.
It was tiny, pretty cramped, although it looked clean, I wasn't confident about the hotel as it feels 'unloved', if that makes sense.
My tiny attic room was ok but as I mention...tiny and the tiniest bathroom was only a step away from mine and another guest's room. The other guest could probably hear me breathing, it really is that cramped on the top floor.
If I'd realised this was more like a hostel than a guest house, I wouldn't have booked it.
The bonus was the fact I got to park in a parking space right in front of the guest house, on their private drive - a rare privilege for Summertown!
- Erika (1/5): - Ungemütliches in die Jahre gekommenes Zimmer
- Marie Vera (7/5): -
- Perpeture (4/5): - The prompt response to phone enquiries There was no access to kitchen facilities . The one kitchen gadget, microwave was somewhere in the corridor
- Selin (5/5): -
- Mihai-Lucian (9/5): -
- Paul (8/5): Great location for a short stay in Oxford - Great location. Buses to the city centre are frequent and cheap. Parking on site or on road nearby with a permit provided by the hotel. Summertown, where the property is, has loads of shops and cafes. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable, basic room with decent enough en-suite. It’s a bit basic in the room for the price and could do with a bit of updating
- Hermann (7/5): -
- Srirathi (8/5): -
- Ramona (6/5): Can be improved - Small room, small bed, some problems with water. towels. Cold in the evening
- Dan (10/5): -
- magdalena (6/5): - It was a place to stay A shared bathroom that I wasn't aware of
Nobody in the place on check in
Dysty staircase
- Chibuike Philip (10/5): -
- Chris (8/5): - Thought it was good value for the money. Breakfast was nice also.

- Haleh (1/5): I ended up extremely stressed, no rest, freezing and cought a bad cold. - Location was very near bus stops, coffee shops, restaurants, convenient stores in north Oxford Upon arriving, the room smelled foul, I understand old town and old sewer system but this was too much. it made sleeping very difficult. Had to run a fan all night. And the heater was off. (mind you the night temps were 2 to 8 degrees C). Funny enough, I was asked to change rooms since they had given me the wrong room. The new room was bigger and not smelly but no shampoo or body wash, little toilet paper, sagging beds, TV and heater not working (very cold in the room), but worse than anything was the LOUD ALARM that would go off several times a night just shocking me. I wake up panicked just looking in the dark. After leaving a note for cleaning crew on my door nothing happened. Had to call the office the next day, then most issues were taken care of ( the heat was on the last night) except for the alarm. It would go off at 1, then at 3 then twice at 5 which did not allow for any sleep. I wasn't running the shower or the kettle, or smoking or doing anything except trying to sleep. I actually dreaded going to my room. Even called the management again but nothing happened. I ended up sick. I actually would like to be compensated for such a horrible stay
- Rachel (10/5): - Would definitely stay again. Friendly, welcoming staff, parking and breakfast a bonus, very good value for money.
- Valdis (7/5): -
- Jenny Elisabeth (1/5): Skam - Skam Skam
- Jelena (4/5): -
- Andrew (5/5): Great location but rooms need some TLC. - Excellent location, close to the shops, bars and restaurants and bus stop. Parking was available which was great. The room was a bit scruffy, bathroom was tiny and the whole place really needs updating with new furniture and decor.
- Els (7/5): prima guesthouse voor een redelijke prijs. - Prettige locatie.
Verder niemand gezien.
Kamer was netjes schoon.
Huizen zijn gehorig maar we hadden weinig overlast. Douchecabine was wiebelig. Douchedeur moet wel gemaakt. Geen douchegel ondanks dat dat in omschrijving stond.
Veel kamers, gelukkig hadden wij geen overlast van anderen. Is wel gehorig pand.
- Mark (5/5): I won't go there again. Breakfast is important to me. - Room was OK - shower room was convenient The standard information list was woefully our of date - it led me to believe there was a dining room and the possibility of breakfast. There was neither.
- Dana (6/5): Not like photos - I was disappointed with the condition, comfort and cleanliness of my room. I complained so got moved to a slightly nicer room with a much better bed. I was grateful the owner accommodated me. However I won’t stay there
- tb (7/5): - Was very central and clean Nothing we didn't like, sheets in one of rooms were clean but had mold stains on.
- Lucía (6/5): - El barrio es agradable.
Estaba limpio. No quedaba jabon en los dispensadores.
Hervidor de agua sucio, que alguien debio de hervir leche y estaba sin limpiar.
Cama incomoda, con muelles que se te clavan.
Desorbitadament caro para lo que es
- Aziza (6/5): - Location was very good. Good tea and coffee facilities. Towels provided. Hairdryer and fan provided. The mirror light and the bedside lamp was not working. There was no hand soap provided. The bathroom is very small.
- M85 (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The location is good - close to shops and restaurants in Summertown. Check in was easy with clear instructions for key pick up. The sheets, towels and main areas in the room were clean but other areas were dirty or in need of attention (e.g. the doors to the room and ensuite were dirty and marked, the wallpaper was peeling, there were stains on the stool by the dressing table and on the base of the bed, and the runner for the shower doors needed to be cleaned). It was quite warm during my stay so the fan provided was appreciated. The shower pressure was good with plenty of hot water. Adding a hook in the bathroom would be helpful as there was nowhere to hang towels.
- Peter (5/5): Passable - lol, £97 (discounted from nearly £140 apparently) to stay the night in nan’s guest bedroom - last given the ‘landlord’s special’ sometime in the mid 90s - but without the lovely company, cups of tea, and breakfast. Accomodation in this country truly is a rip off.
- Yiming (5/5): Passable - Not really satisfied with the whole living feeling. No any check-in information from the guest house. Need to make a call to ask the staff. The bathroom needs to be kept clean. The water outlet was clogged during showering. The body wash were not replenished when they ran out.
- Ian (6/5): Convenient location, disappointed by shower and smell of smoke. - Location, Large bedroom and bathroom On first arrival the rooms reeked of cigarette smoke and the shower was most difficult to use. A person did try to remove the smoke smell and when we went back in the evening it was better. We told the cleaner that we could not use the shower and he demonstrated how it worked by twisting the control further. It was still difficult to regulate pressure and temperature.
- Vicki (6/5): Pleasant -
- Dorothy (8/5): Very good -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Convenient for Oxford visit - This is our 5th overnight stay, and we will visit again.
- Chris (7/5): Cheap & cheerful, perfectly comfortable for a single night's stay. - Great location, easy to find, easy to check-in, very affordable, clean & tidy Size of room, size of bed, very small!
- Jules (7/5): Good - The room is okay for 2, although quite small.
The house and neighbourhood are calm.
2 parking slots available on premises for no extra charge.
Note : no fridge available on the premises.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Awful - Shared bathroom despite booking saying private bathroom. Hotel would do nothing about it, nor would hotels.com. Blind broken in skylight so woken at 6am. Sink in room that you can’t really get to. Pillow had the largest lump in I’ve ever seen. Worst value for money of any place I’ve ever stayed.
- Vesna (2/5): Very poor - The property is not sutable for staying there. The roof window couldn’t fully close, and it was constantly blowing through the window. Above the all the bed was just below that window and it was cold. Also the window wasn’t clean and I couldn’t adjust the blinds.
They are also ignoring the refund request even though I cancelled the room after the first night and moved to another hotel
- Thomas (8/5): Comfortable room situated on a main road into the city centre with plenty of buses. - Nice room. Kettle provided for making tea/coffee. En suite bathroom. Nothing.
- Ahmad (8/5): Very good -
- Scott (8/5): Comfortable Stay in a Great Location - We had a pleasant stay overall. The room was clean and the bed was really comfy, which made for a good night’s sleep. The location was ideal—close to the city, restaurants, and with parking available nearby. Late check-in was easy thanks to the key code system.
The room had some nice touches like tea bags and biscuits, although there wasn’t quite enough milk provided. The only downside was the kettle, which was covered in a white powdery residue—hopefully just limescale, but it wasn’t very appealing.
Aside from that, it was a convenient and comfortable place to stay, and I’d consider returning.
- Alauden (10/5): Nice day - Everything was OK None
- Urvi (7/5): Good -
- Oliver (8/5): Reliable - Been here before and always reliable and good value place and this time was just the same
It's in good location It was good, I think if I was being fussy, the shower door in bathroom could do with some work as bit stiff. It was all clean but someone had left a shaver on top of door which was easy to miss so fair enough.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good for short-stay
- Yutaro (3/5): Poor -
- Bastani (5/5): Very average - Cold room, no heating
When asked, heating came on for one hour, radiator barely warm
Had to sleep with my tracksuit to keep warm☹️
- Nidheerajcalleea (7/5): Good -
- Catherine (10/5): - Good value and clean, convenient for Summertown shops.
- Pantelis (5/5): Passable -
- Darren (9/5): Superb -
- Szymon (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (8/5): Very good - The price for the 3 nights and the location was great. There was a stain on the covering that is over the duvet. Aside from this we had no problems
- Aaron (6/5): Acceptable Budget Option - as you might expect for the price - It was well located about a 15 minute bus ride or 40 minute walk north of Oxford in a nice neighbourhood.
Communication was good & we were provided access to a lockbox for self “check-in” (really just entry). The room had plenty of natural light & it was quiet & clean enough.
It was a budget property and perfectly acceptable. I wouldn’t rush back, but if the price was right, I might stay again for a single night. It was a bit tatty. The wallpaper was coming down at the edges, paint peeling, a bit of mould. Some of that was aged but a lot of it had to do with the fact that it just wasn’t done very well to begin with.
Simple things that could have easily been sorted would’ve fixed this. E.g. No strip had been placed between the bathroom tiles and the bedroom, so there was a rough, hard edge there. There had been a hook on the back of the bathroom door, but judging by the holes it had fallen off (more than once) & as there was nothing towel rail, there was nothing to hang towels on (despite a sign asking one to do so to save washing). The extractor fan was quite weak, so the bathroom was a little bit mouldy & the place smelled of mildew a bit, though opening the window for a mostly sorted that.
The bed was rather uncomfortable. It felt like an older, budget spring mattress, but for this price it was within expectations.
Finally, it would’ve been nice to have soap supplied. You would cost less than a pound to just supply a little bit of body wash. One expects that these days.
- Nicole (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sarah (7/5): Good - Parking and let in early as I was early Very brief hello and key hand over.
Water not very warm in shower.
Bed noisy and not v comfortable.
No bedside lamp.
- Syed (3/5): Claustrophobic detention centre feel - Close to Oxford University No reception, no breakfast. Room is cramped, no chair in room, no ensuite toilet - have to share toilet, room has a sink, central heating/ radiator doesn't work so had to use a small electric heater (provided). Bed is uncomfortable. I wouldn't recommend at all. May be ok for young students on budget.
Overall feels claustrophobic.
- Ed (6/5): Decent enough stay - The sleep The wi fi
- Omid (3/5): Poor -
- Maria (9/5): Superb -
- Janet (5/5): Cheap but not so cheerful - Comfy bed, Good shower. Free parking The room was shabby, with peeling wallpaper and a broken radiator casing. There were no hooks in the bathroom for towels. There was no hairdryer in the room as promised. It was difficult to work out whether breakfast was included (the fact that it wasn't was very hidden in the description).
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Ed (6/5): Good enough stay - The bed the wi fi The change of room
