- Fiona (10/5): Superb - Great food amazing staff ty N/a
- Simon (9/5): Rewarding, friendly, relaxing, efficient. - Outstanding staff.
Excellent food.
Historic building. Nothing.
- Frouke (8/5): - Gezellige oude pub en het bedje met gevulde waterbak stond klaar voor mijn hond, super. Niets eigenlijk
- Mandawala (10/5): Amazing food, great rooms and excellent service - We attended a wedding at Froyle Park, and The Anchor Inn is just a 3-minute drive away, making it a very convenient place to stay.
We arrived on Friday evening for dinner, and the food was excellent. Despite being a large group, the staff were incredibly accommodating and helpful throughout.
On Saturday, we had some difficulty finding a taxi to get to the wedding — something to be aware of in the Alton area — but Kevin, the owner, went above and beyond and kindly drove us to the venue himself, which we really appreciated.
The rooms were clean, cosy, and comfortable. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely return to explore the town more.
Thank you to Kevin, his wife, and the whole team — keep up the great work!

- Anna (8/5): Lovely local pub in a rural location, with lots of history and character. - Lovely rural location, one quiet road running next to it. Really friendly helpful staff. Very comfortable beds, and large showers. Food in the restaurant was gastro-pub style and very delicious! Breakfast was superb. The nearest and nicest stopover if you're visiting Jane Austen's House and Chawton House. Slightly tired feeling to the decoration in the pub and the rooms, it could do with a superficial refresh. However, it's important to say that our bedrooms were very clean, and large and well appointed. The usual expected noise up until closing time around 11-11.30, but no rowdiness, owing to a mainly older (quieter!) clientele, as you'd expect with a country pub.
- ANDROULLA (8/5): Very comfortable and quaint accommodation good service very accommodating staff - Breakfast was lovely good choice
- Michael (9/5): Lovely stay, would love to return! - Loved the interior decor, room had so much character. Really relaxed environment too with friendly staff! Only thing was not being able to open window in bedroom, did find it quite hot at night as couldn't seem to turn off radiator
- Tina (9/5): -
- Martin (10/5): A nice country side break - As usual a very nice stay in a charming room in a country pub.
- Felix (9/5): -
- Holly (9/5): Very charming and cosy, perfect for our weekend away! - The room was charming it had a lot of character, so cosy and lots of lovely touches. The location was also perfect for a wedding we were travelling to nearby and the staff was lovely Sounds so small but the pillows were quite uncomfortable, and maybe that’s personal preference but they were quite hard so just sharing in case helpful
- FERIT (8/5): Acceptable hotel, with many improvements to be done for the breakfast. - Breakfast quality is disappointing: Not enough choice in general. No cheese, bad quality food.
Parking too expensive. It should be included in the price of the room.
- Sandra (8/5): -
- Kerensa (10/5): -
- Simon (8/5): All very enjoyable - Excellent food, freshly cooked breakfast. Wonderful collection of late Victorian prints and photos for someone over 6' tall it's all a bit of a nightmare with low beams and awkward stairs
- David (10/5): Lovely. - Characterful property and friendly staff What's not to like?
- Gábor (10/5): -
- Jenna (10/5): Lovely hotel , had a very enjoyable stay and would highly recommended. Service was excellent. - Clean and spacious rooms, very friendly staff and service was excellent. Great food! Highly recommended thank you !
- Sacha (10/5): Great Little Find! - The character of the pub is beautiful. The rooms were a really good size. Bed was comfy and the shpwer was great.
We had breakfast the next morning and it was delicious! -
- Ian (9/5): Lovely hotel/pub with great character - Pub was gorgeous. Exposed beams. 16th Century. Low ceilings. Slanting floors. Room was clean. Comfy bed. Good sized bathroom with good, powerful shower. Room was over the bar so noisy whilst the rugby was on. Bar shut at 11. No noise thereafter - but the bar was pretty much empty by 9 anyway. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Good choice of food. Well cooked. Bar had nice selection of beers. Breakfast was excellent. Good choice of dishes. Served at the table. Would highly recommend Be warned, the pub is quite remote. Nothing we could see in walking distance. You need transport to get there and to get around. This might be a plus point for many! Wouldn't prevent us visiting again.
- Hannah (1/5): Dissappointing, a shame as I actually like the pub itself but the rooms don’t cut it. - Filthy, my room hadn’t been cleaned (for a long time given the size of the cobwebs and build up of dirt in places) I decided not to stay here, luckily another place nearby had availability and was clean.
- Alex (8/5): -
- Pinnerjohn (10/5): A hidden gem of a hotel, near'ish Alton - The "standard room" we had was large, with a very large bathroom and walk-in shower.
Room was tastefully decorated.
Excellent restaurant with well trained and helpful staff.
Large on-site carpark.
- patrisha (9/5): Stayed for a wedding but would come back - The friendly staff made me feel welcomed especially as a solo traveller. Felt safe and comfortable as it’s in a remote area. No shops or restaurants around, just greenery N/A
- Bridget (10/5): Great stay - highly recommend staying here. - The Anchor exceeded our expectations in every area. We had a great short stay - the building is full of character, with old beams and restored to a high level. The welcome and service was warm. We appreciated the extra touches like being given fresh milk in a thermos for our room. The room itself was beautiful - decorated to a high standard but also warm and cosy. The bathroom was large and we appreciated the powerful shower.
The breakfast was included in our stay and was outstanding - great choice and standard of food. Nothing could have been better. Very tall people may need to duck in some areas, but that's because it's a historic building.
- Jacqui (10/5): A comfortable bed in a warm room, with delicious food served in the restaurant. - The breakfast was freshly cooked and not too big, just right for us.
The filter coffee and cafetiere in the bedroom , with both caffinated and decaffinated coffee provided. Nothing I can think of
- Warren (9/5): -
- Malcolm (9/5): - Wonderful staff, from the moment we arrived.
Carol who served breakfast was lovely, so helpful.
- Catherine (8/5): Would definitely recommend this pub as good value for money, great location and interesting place. - Amazing location, loved the pub and all the decor. Room was wonderful. Breakfast very tasty and service good. We arrived at around 7pm but were unable to get a light supper at the pub, only offered a portion of chips!
- Harry (9/5): First time was great, second was better. Lovely place to stay - watch out for low beams!!! - Big breakfast, built in to the room price, and it was wonderful...
Option to "downgrade" (that's a personal choice of words, I like a Full English) to slightly fare, but we didn't do that.
We took two plates full, and shuffled ingredients around after delivery to the table - always the best way in my book.
We had the same room as the last time we booked here, and it's still as quirky, quiet-at-night, and quaint as ever...hope we get the same one next time too!
The staff were amazing - so friendly!
Restaurant atmosphere was great.
We'll be back. Nothing!
(except maybe doing it all for a quid, which wouldn't do the staff justice!
- Karen (9/5): -
- Charlene (9/5): Great find! - Loved the ambience of the whole place, so cosy. Dinner and breakfast was excellent! Could’ve been a bit cleaner. We used the kettle and coffee strainer and they weren’t cleaned beforehand
- HARVEY (8/5): -
- ANGELA (10/5): -
- maggie (9/5): -
- Kathryn (9/5): -
- Rod (10/5): Brilliant - Breakfast was very tasty , and well presented, the staff were attentive , pleasant , and had enough time to chat creating an excellent experience
- Linda (9/5): -
- Mark (9/5): Great value and will definitely return - Love the location , the room was nicely furnished and great value. The staff were very helpful and friendly too N/A
- Iain (10/5): -
- Carrie (10/5): -
- Samuel (8/5): A cosy, friendly stay with great breakfast, though a quieter room and bigger TV needed. - Perfect Country Pub; Open Fire, Mulled Wine, Low Beams
Great Breakfast
Friendly Staff
Great Water Pressure
Relaxing and Stress Free. Noise from Bar until Closing Time - A room further away would naturally be better.
TV was too small to see from Bed.
- Jayne (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Nesli (9/5): -
- Kirsten (10/5): Unique, elegant room with a view - I was expecting this booking to be a cut above average, but my expectations were excee∂e∂ by speical touches such as a mini cafetiere an∂ fresh groun∂ coffee in the room. The large win∂ow that lea∂s out to the balcony is spectacular an∂ gives the room a really elegant feel. The balcony looks out over the pub courtyar∂ an∂ feels like a royal balcony. na
- Jeff (9/5): - Plenty of character, good food and bar. Good place to stay if you don't want to stray far. It is located in a hamlet so is a drive into Farnham. The ceiling height is very low, so tall people will be constantly crouched when standing.
- Dan (10/5): Fantastic! - Staff, food, spacious room. A few cob webs but overall nothing to moan about!
- Adi (9/5): -
- Weekes (9/5): -
- Tanya (8/5): - Great stay - delicious breakfast and friendly staff
- Ashleigh (9/5): -
- Chris MK (8/5): -
- David (9/5): Very nice country inn - Excellent food, friendly staff, large and comfortable room in nice country inn Nothing - all good
- Jackie (10/5): - Traditional, welcoming and great food No milk in the rooms
- Seohhuei (10/5): Excellent staff and breakfast. - Delicious, good variety of breakfast options which were included with the room. Spacious bedroom and bathroom. Excellent staff.. Carol (appreciate her wonderful service during breakfast), and the team rearranged the bookings and found us another room due to ventilation issues with the 1st room. The room was above the Inn's bar and is pretty noisy on Wed night happy hours which likely ends at 11pm. Stairs to the rooms upstairs can be tight for big luggage, but it is the charm of the Inn in a historic building.
- Christopher (9/5): Lovely traditional pub with a good restaurant. - Lovely country pub close to the A31 and to Alton, that we were visiting. Large, well decorated room with comfortable bed and armchairs, good shower room. Rustic public bar with low beams and good restaurant where we had a lovely meal. Friendly helpful staff. Nothing comes to mind.
- Emma (8/5): -
- Alan (8/5): Will stay again. - Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. good food.
- Chris (10/5): A hidden gem... - A fabulous inn. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My room, like the inn, was comfortable and had a lot of character. The food was excellent, with generous portions and absolutely delicious. I loved it.
- Pati (7/5): -
- avib62 (8/5): All in all a good experience, the place served us well and answered our needs - We loved the idea of the room above the pub, it was really special. The team were all very friendly and supportive, and the breakfast was lovely room was OK, but had some strange feeling to it, was not as nice as it looked in the pictures in the website
- scott (6/5): Disappointing for the cost - Room needed a good clean hair on bathroom floor dust every where
- kevin (9/5): -
- Robert (8/5): Typical country pub with all the character you could wish for - Breakfast was well cooked and very tasty although it was a little on the expensive side for me. Location was great, close to the office I was working and local sports centres which I used to play golf. Only spent a couple of nights so not in a position to comment other than my stay was very pleasant.
- Deborah (8/5): -
- Jeni (8/5): -
- Miles (10/5): -
- Miles (10/5): -
- Sharon Peat (9/5): Lovely staff and atmosphere. - we had a lovely stay at the Anchor Inn, staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. Our room was wonderful.
- Lauren (9/5): Beautiful stay and I'd love to come back! - - Beautiful location
- Brilliant food - breakfast, lunch & dinner all amazing!
- Really nice and helpful staff
- Accommodating - even had room service!
- Spacious bathroom Honestly no complaints at all. If I had 1 small thing I think the paintings in the bedrooms could be more contemporary/ less of them, and still fit the theme of the inn but make it feel a little less "spooky" haha
- Alexandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alex (8/5): Very good -
- Kevin (9/5): Superb - Very nice room quality breakfast Shower not good for tall people
- Tomomi (5/5): Passable -
- Bernadette (9/5): An enjoyable stay at the Anchor Inn - There was a good choice for breakfast. It was well presented and good quality.
The location was ideal for us. It was only 8 minutes from the wedding venue.
The beer garden was lovely. Great views and spacious.
The bedroom was a good size and the shower had good pressure.
The anchor inn is an old building with plenty of character.
There are low beams in places, so tall people need to take care. The mirror in the bathroom could have been bigger and no main light in the bedroom also meant putting make up on was a little hard.
- Julienne (10/5): Great inn - I loved the rooms and the restaurant (the breakfast was delicious). The staff was great! Room Richard Hillary was a little bit hot. Maybe they could let the window totally open.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nigel (9/5): An excellent stay - Lovely location in the countryside.
Nice pub and comfortable room.
Friendly staff
- David (7/5): Good -
- Lewis (10/5): Calm beautiful food staff great nice feel about it all - Room was beautiful settings was great food was unbelievable polite staff had fabulous time will return again Mybe curtains need dressing but rest was fab
- Lucy (8/5): Very good - Loved the location, one of the best beer garden views! A proper pub with old features and the rooms were very comfortable. Most of the staff were amazing (details below) Everything would have been exceptional apart from a member of the team calling me the day after we left saying that she was sending a bill as we owed for our room (which I had paid in cash before leaving) she then implied I had gotten confused as the price of the room was similar to our meal the night before. Really left a sour taste for me as she made me feel like we had done something wrong when she should have just checked the tills which would have been up and spoken to the staff.
- Jon (7/5): Good - Comfortable, quiet, good breakfast Shower not clean.
- Paul (7/5): Good -
- Peter (9/5): Superb - slow service when restaurant busy
- Wim (10/5): Fantastice place to stay - The Anchor Inn is an enchanting hotel on a wonderfull location. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. The room was beautiful, comfortable and clean. We had dinner in the pub downstairs where we enjoyed delicious food for a good price. Breakfast was great too.
- Ron (9/5): Superb -
- Grohne (8/5): Easy. - The room. The staff. Breakfast not included.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Tony (9/5): An enjoyable and relaxing 2 night stay. - Cosy and comfortable with very friendly staff. A bit tatty round the edges.
- Carol (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay and would stay at the Anchor Inn again. - We had dinner at the Anchor Inn which was excellent and Olivia our waitress was very helpful and we had a tip quality service. The breakfast was also excellent and the staff friendly.
- Jacob (9/5): Great stay at the Anchor Inn - Large, comfortable and clean room. Friendly staff and great breakfast.
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional - The lovely location, quiet area, very close to the Barn at Bury Court Bentley Farnham
The rooms are spacious and good-sized bathroom lots of tea and coffee choices Theirs nothing to dislike, except for firsthand taxi's and Farnham 24hr taxi's who let us down at the last minute, we were given the info from the Hotel , The Barn at Bury Court Bentley it's only 5mins by car
- Deacon (9/5): Really lovely welcoming stay for two tired Pilgrims way walkers (PS good pub if you are walking) - The staff were excellent, always happy to help. The room was spacious and clean with lovely soft towels and excellent coffee, liked the idea of a thermos for fresh milk - thank you
For walkers - happy to made 'Breakfast to go' - which we ate later as a mid-morning break. Couldn't fathom out the TV, but not an issue as didn't really want to watch and two lovely magazines left in room to read- thank you (oh, just to say I didn't bother to ask for help, as I don't really watch TV - just the news and it was lovely not to have all that negativity, I am 100% sure someone would have popped up to sort out)
- Nick (8/5): Very good -
- Garry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Derek (9/5): Didn't disappoint. - As with my last visit, excellent food, good beer and a more than passable glass of Malbec with the top notch seafood stew before retiring to my cozy room. Interesting to observe the bar/restaurant at work from behind my newspaper. Manager, Marta, misses nothing and has a great team of motivated youngsters helping her out. A model of good management. Dodgy reception on my room TV, but they were very apologetic and assured me they will get it sorted. A minor quibble.
- Julian (7/5): Pleasant visit to local relatives - location fine,
breakfast good,
bathroom and shower good
Towels excellent
Staff helpful
Beer garden was nice to sit in the sun
Good parking facilities The in-room tea & coffee facilities would have benefited by being place on a tray.
The milk flask on arrival was overfilled and spilt out
The TV screen was too small for the size of room
Certain foods on the dinner menu were not to our taste
