Guest Reviews
- keith (9/5): Relaxing, ideal location suits our business travelling and access but also enables relaxation next. - The staff were all very welcoming and friendly, especially housekeeping. who shared some good. tourist information when we were chatting We are returning customers and enjoy our stays. here very much.
- Christine (10/5): Highly recommend the Dundas Arms! Great stay, food and staff! Thank you! - We were very impressed with the staff at the Dundas Arms. They did everything and did a fantastic job. We checked in with the bartender who showed us to our rooms and helped us with our bags. Then he came back to check the heat was working properly. Then he served us our drinks in the bar, served people in the bar garden area and then was our waiter for dinner. So polite and accommodating! Dinner and breakfast were both delicious! Nothing.

- Jeanette (8/5): - Location was great. We were visiting Highclere Castle and had been to Stonehenge.
Room was at the back, so very quiet and comfortable. Bathroom was spacious and everything was clean and tidy. There was no TV control in the room but a quick visit to the bar and that was sorted.
We had a selection of sides and literally bites for dinner and I have to say we really enjoyed the food it was very tasty.
Breakfast was also delicious. Poached eggs on Sourdough is always a winner.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Nice to see plenty of locals using the bar and it all went quiet that bedtime.
We'd be happy to stay again for sure. Nothing really. I believe the management are fairly new and so imagine they are concentrating on getting food and rooms etc and customers in.
In due course perhaps a fresh coat of paint in communal hall and stairs would be good. First impressions are critical.
- Lucy (10/5): Fantastic stay - highly recommended -
- Karen (8/5): Lovely spot on the canal. - Beautiful location on the banks of Kennet and Avon canal, which surrounds much of the pretty garden. King-size bed a plus!
Excellent breakfast choice and staff able to adapt for food preferences/ intolerances.
Staff very friendly and helpful. The bedrooms would benefit from a mirror; preferably a full length.
The shelves over the sinks are too deep, making teeth cleaning difficult. The bar, snug, decor and garden furniture and some exterior woodwork could do with a spruce up.
- William (9/5): - Waking up and being immersed in the English Countrside with the canal on our doorstep and ducks floating by :)
Breakfast was really good - the dining room had a beautiful view of their enormous pub garden.
Staff were very friendly and attentive.
- WAYNE (10/5): Great short stay - Location beside the river
Close to Highclere Castle
Rustic charm
Good breakfast
- Sandra (8/5): Very pleasant stay and friendly staff - Good location, lovely bar and restaurant No hing
- Kevin & Liz (9/5): - Location was great. Sunday beef was inedible, very fatty and chewy. One day run out of a few items on breakfast (compot and sausages)
- TANIT MARIA (10/5): -
- MF (10/5): - Beautiful setting, lovely room with terrace & comfortable bed. The staff were amazing from start to finish. Facilities of pub, food & drink were exactly what we'd hoped for & although the bar was near by, our room was very very quiet. We woke to the sound of the birds by the water, followed by a stunning walk directly outside of the front door.
- JULIE (9/5): -
- Nicola (7/5): - Great location for walking, very comfortable large bed. Staff very pleasant. No milk or biscuit in the room.
No cereals fruit or preserves on offer at breakfast.
- Richard (8/5): -
- Dave (9/5): A nice quiet couple of days in the countryside. - Lovely spot by the river.

The place needs a refurbushment !
- Justin (10/5): Lovely pub on the river with great food, nice rooms and great service - Lovely pub on the river with great food, nice rooms and great service
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Jacqueline (9/5): Een prima locatie met hardwerkende en vriendelijke bediening - Ontbijt was uitstekend. Bediening vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Locatie perfect kamer prima
- Rosalyn (8/5): Lovely location, staff and hospitality - Staff were super friendly, organised, efficient and knowledgeable. The facilities are a bit tired but gather there is a refurb planned later this year. In terms of staff and location it is 10/10 and the menu/food/welcome is excellent. Thanks for a fab stay and we can't wait to see you again next time. Decor is a little tired.
- Thomas (8/5): Country pub with great access to walks and great food - Food options for both the included breakfast and dinner / Sunday lunch were all excellent - the restaurant was busy all weekend. The canal-side location is very nice and in summer the beer-garden must be a great place to spend an afternoon. The train gives easy access to Newbury. The pub is at the start point of a number of walks in the area The proximity to the trainline is not ideal for a really quiet getaway but it is by no means a dealbreaker; our room faced the tracks and we weren't really disturbed
- Kath (9/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Shauna (10/5): - Loved the location as well as the facilities
- Tessa (10/5): Great food Great service. - Excellent quality food Imaginative menu Decor could do with a freshen up

- peter (8/5): Will go again - Garden view when dining
- Kristian (7/5): Quaint get aeay - The quaintness and location. Breakfast was excellent and staff friendly Did not like the price variation from day to day, you were not sure what you would end up paying as no invoice is forwarded after payment
- Nick (9/5): - Breakfast was very good. Plenty of it and coffee.
Place was looking a bit tired, but I understand that is being refurbished 8n the next few months. Eggs were overcooked on bottom and nat enough on top. But that's personal preference.
- Alexandra (8/5): Wonderful stay in an idyllic spot with a warm, friendly team and excellent food. - Absolutely fabulous setting right on the water - the team were extremely helpful and friendly, nothing was too much effort for them including recommendations for walks in and around the area and property. Breakfast was excellent - lots of variety and very well executed. Warm, friendly team looking after us for dinner. Wonderful spot and wonderful team. We had a small issue with the water heat/pressure in our room and it was a little chilly.
- Gordon (6/5): One night in Kintbury - I like the place in general.
I liked the fact they moved us to another room, and the refund if the room cost.
Breakfast service was outstanding again. Being put into an unsecure room the patio door did not lock you had to use a knife to apply it which was not a secure way of doing things so it should not have been a room that was available for customers
- Tyler (9/5): Enjoyed our stay. Will happily return - Lovely location.
Staff were very friendly.
Lovely bedroom fronting on to the river .
Would be so lovely in the summer.
Enjoyed our evening meal . We were there on Thursday night ( curry night) and the food was delicious.
- Sheils (8/5): Staff were lovely. Food was exceptional - Food was exceptional Noise. I could hear every sound and noise in room nextdoor. Plastic walls. No sound proof. Was poor. Didn't get good night sleep
- Milena (10/5): -
- Vanessa (10/5): -
- Ellen (10/5): - Fabulous location and lovely pub accommodation
- Robin (7/5): -
- Conny (9/5): - Location, the friendly staff the amazing breakfast
- Stuart (10/5): Staff very good and all helpful. Made the stay very pleasant - food AMAZING - All aspects
- Humphrey (10/5): Brilliant stay -
- David (1/5): extremely disgusted - breakfast good location good we stayed in the Partridge room, it was filthy, extremely stained pillows, radiator full of black dirt & dust small fan covered of dust. couldn't see through window. The whole Pub needs a thorough clean. Even the dinning room was dirty except the table tops
- Kyra (10/5): Excellent accommodations with fantastic staff - James and the rest of the staff were extremely welcoming and genuinely friendly. We very much enjoyed chatting with them while we enjoyed the excellent food and beverages. The room was quite nice, very clean and comfortable. We’ll definitely choose them again if we’re in that area.
- Dee (8/5): will be back - Good Food all round. It will be great once the renovation is done it looks tired and. Location was good. We will revist. It has 4 star rating on the web site but not @ the moment.
- jennifer (6/5): - It is a curious mixture of a pretty tatty building with beautiful soft furnishings. The setting is very nice. It needs a lot of work to bring it up to standard.
Tiling in the bathroom mouldy and broken.
Seats in the bar area have seen better days.
Lots of the furniture is well used.
Photos on the wall of bullet cartridges (!)
Breakfast - lovely coffee, but the plate I ordered was small and soggy, marginally edible.
I don’t think it warrants this price tag.
- Vicki (10/5): Very comfortable room with a clean bath. Wonderful breakfast and a great location - Our room was charming with the unexpected patio and ducks in the stream. The gentleman who greeted us was very kind. We didn’t eat dinner, but had a dessert which was good. And the breakfast was excellent Can’t think of anything
- Ian (9/5): Great venue for an old friends' gathering. - Location was excellent and ideal motorway and rail connections.
- Charley (9/5): -
- Robert (8/5): - Great rural location. Has a room with an outdoor area looking on to the river Dinner u was a bit limited but I guess a Tuesday in January does not generate many customers.
- Sue (9/5): - We three all needed a headroom and came to see a friend in the area who could not put us up therefore you provided perfect accommodation. Thanks.
- Monica (7/5): Comfortable with nice dinner and breakfast. - Friendly and convenient location for our stay. Service a bit hit and miss at times.
- Sam (1/5): but we had no hot water… we booked the room specifically for the bath as my husband has a bad back. We were told to let - The room was nice No hot water
- Kathleen (8/5): -
- Nivin (10/5): Simply gorgeous - The pub, it's set up, decor, grounds, accomodation and food was stunning.
- Tim (8/5): Great fun, Comfortable and Value for Money - Location great, food great, friendly and helpful staff and all reasonably priced.
The Butcombe lager was surprisingly good too Can't think of anything
- Catherine (10/5): We will definitely return to this idyllic location. - This is an outstanding location. Staff, especially Fanny, were helpful and welcoming. We stayed in a beautiful room overlooking the river, our own private patio and everything you need for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was amazing!
- Jeremy (10/5): - Where it is situated It’s a little Tired
- dave (9/5): good food, comfortable room, real ales and great value - great historci location, comfortable room, good real Ales, helpful staff and excellent fish and chips meal a bin in car park for dog waste
- David (9/5): I met up with my old school friends for our yearly get together and we met in the bar which was pleasantly busy but we t - It was a typically English countryside Inn whilst being very functional

- Michael (8/5): -
- David (10/5): Great picturesque location and great staff. - The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable with a great view of the river. Tea and coffee with fresh milk was available in our room. the room had a lovely little patio with two chairs and a table. Nothing
- Sonja (9/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Warm welcome, good food, and a lovely setting - The staff are absolute stars. The food is really good and the setting is so relaxing - come prepared to enjoy a walk It was all fine
- Kelly (10/5): Will be back - The food was incredible, the staff were 10/10, and the bed was the comfiest bed I’ve slept on in my life. Location is good, next to the train station or short drives to neighbouring towns. The grounds are pretty and the decor inside is cosy. Easily one of the best places I’ve stayed ever. Nothing
- david (10/5): Always good. - All good.
- Poppy (9/5): Great location, lovely staff, comfy beds, tasty brekkie! - Wonderful staff and delicious breakfast We had a birthday supper there which was great and we were very well looked after BUT even on a fairly quiet evening almost half the menu was unavailable!
