Guest Reviews
- Rachel (7/5): Nice quiet location. - Perfect for our one night stay
- Amy (9/5): - Lovely place that I wouldnt hesitate to stay at again, peaceful and quiet and huge garden space for eating dinner etc. Friendly, responsive host.
- James (8/5): For the price, you just can’t argue. - Wasn’t sure what to expect for the price I paid, but you know what…. Wasn’t disappointed! The room was well appointed, it was clean, the area was nice and quiet. Honestly, if you’re there for a night or two you won’t be let down. Dave, who booked me in, seems a decent chap and was quick to help me get settled in. Honestly, nothing to dislike personally.
Just a couple of points of note about the area. It’s on street parking there - no car park. So just consider that if you’re precious about your motor. And there’s no food available in the village. I ended up having to back track to the next village down the road to get some dinner.
- Jon (10/5): A highly enjoyable stay in generous accommodation with very friendly hosts. - We received a very friendly welcome. The accommodation was generous and comfortable, having everything we needed and more. The breakfast was delicious and we appreciated the efforts put into catering for our special dietary requirements. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- Andrew (8/5): - Really comfortable bef
- Claire (1/5): Awful - There was nothing to like It was dirty. The bathroom was so disgusting with waste water from the sink emerging in the shower tray next to it. The toilet cistern had brown rusty stains seeping from it. The towels smelled sour and were damp, the decor was very dated and dusty. There were cobwebs behind the furniture, whole place was cluttered. Family photos adorned the staircase. I could go on……… my advice is don’t stay here. There’s nothing in the village, no pub etc and the only shop shuts at 5.
- Julia (10/5): - Made the breakfast we asked for but offered other items too. Sheets were very smooth and high quality...very comfy bed. Handy stop off for Cairnryan ferries. TV would not tune in at first but was quickly sorted
- Philip (10/5): Book you will not be disappointed. - Lovely property. Excellent hosts, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Will definitely be booking again.
- margaret (8/5): Very enjoyable - Friendly hosts and relaxed atmosphere
- Bethany (10/5): We would definitely come back and stay here again. We wish we could have stayed longer. - We loved its character and charm. The beds were very comfortable and the street was very quiet. The hosts were so lovely and the breakfast was delicious.
- Currie (9/5): -
- sharon (9/5): Would recommend - Friendly, cosy, comfortable stay
- AMANDA (9/5): Lovely cosy stay with friendly hosts - Lovely cosy room, very friendly hosts. Great to have microwave, kettle etc and access to kitchenette. All good
- Alfred (6/5): - Breakfast was very good.
Plenty of space in the accommodation A shortage of local amenities. It was approximately a ten mile round trip to find the nearest restaurant.
The advertisement for the accommodation gives the impression that it is a public house. This might have been the case once upon a time but not anymore. This should be clarified in the description of the accommodation. I am not the first to mention this misunderstanding.
- Dale (10/5): Our wonderful time on Kirkcowan - Very cozy, great host, beautiful location, dig friendly No restaurants in the area, but our host did offer to cook us dinner
- Mark (8/5): -
- Jane (8/5): Great stay - Great host, lovely breakfast and very quirky.
- Sophie (10/5): - Dave was such a welcoming host who made us feel so at home. He made us a delicious cooked breakfast in the morning. It was lovely chatting and hearing all the stories about when the place used to be a pub. Great sized room and a very comfortable night sleep. A hidden gem and 10 out of 10 from us.
- Deborah (10/5): Excellent, very dog friendly. - The accommodation was interesting and the decor was wonderful and interesting. I stayed for one night travelling from the ferry before I carried on my journey. I’m sure the area has a lot to offer and would like to return and stay for longer to explore the area. The bed was Devine, could have slept all day!! The hosts were very welcoming. My dog was very welcome. N/a
- Z (10/5): Excellent hospitality and lovely soace for out family to enjoy as well as great local dog walks - Lots of space great to have access to the space privately. Kitchenette to make an easy dinner. Breakfast was lovely
- Sarah Christie (10/5): Super overnight spot - Excellent value for money. Room was huge and beautifully decorated. Dog friendly :-) Met Dave when we were checking in who was super friendly and very easy to chat to. We used Craiglaw B&B as a stopover for the early Cairnryan ferry the next morning and it was perfect, only wish we could have stayed longer. Sadly, we had to leave too early to take advantage of breakfast but we were kindly offered a diy breakfast option which was much appreciated. Would recommend and stay again.
- Richard (10/5): -
- Jon (6/5): A unique and historic hotel, with attentive hosts. - A vintage feel for the room stylings, with a large four-posted bed and spacious bathroom. The host was attentive and replaced our TV when the one in the room was not working. We arrived at 7pm and the ground floor lights were dim/off in the lounge/ dining room which may the place appear closed and unwelcoming when we arrived. We weren't sure if this area is closed off at a certain time? But from the outside made the place appeared closed and unwelcoming at the time of arrival.
We travelled with a 6 month old so a high chair at breakfast would have been a useful facility.
- Martin (5/5): Shower not good and when you’ve travelled for 9 hours that was what was needed most! - Left early so had no breakfast, location was ok for the cairnryan to larne ferry crossing. The shower was very poor, literally a trickle. Bed quite uncomfortable.
- Kirsty (10/5): Perfect base for exploring gardens in the region. - Cosy, comfortable and spotlessly clean accommodation with a kind and friendly host. Generous breakfasts with excellent coffee!
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly
- Margaret (3/5): Poor -
- Nathan (9/5): Superb -
- Mary (9/5): Superb -
- John (9/5): Convenient worked well - Accommodating an extra early start for breakfast
- Tammy-jane (10/5): Beautiful place to stay - The decor was beautiful, very unique, and cosy. The room was big and the single bed in our family room was more like a small double (meant having to climb in with my toddler a lot more comfortable). Bathroom was huge! Debbie was so lovely and friendly and breakfast was yummy. We also enjoyed the park round the corner. There was nothing not to like.
- Colquhoun (10/5): Very hospitable, felt well looked after. - Very clean and well laid out.
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional - Everything
- Paul (5/5): Friendly owners let me park my bike around back bit out in the sticks - Secure parking Location
- Roseanna (10/5): Hand from the ferry and a very quiet area to stay in and a very good host. - Very good breakfast. Overall very happy with our stay. All was very good.
- Colin (9/5): Charming B&B with Lovely Hosts - Very welcoming hosts, charming old building full of character. Bed very comfortable. Good choice of breakfast. I hadn't realised that there was no food available in the evening (my fault), but Dave very kindly made something.
- Hannah (8/5): Clean and comfortable, thank you - Excellent stay with spacious room, bath and a great breakfast
- George (9/5): Superb -
- Mcsorley (9/5): Great host and a wonderful stay in a very quiet location - Historic hostelry - lots of charm
- Jim (7/5): Good -
- Heidi (10/5): Exceptional - Dave was an excellent host. Accommodations were perfect for our travels through the area.
- Alastair (8/5): Very good - Friendly owners, comfortable room, nice breakfast and good value for money. A bit off the beaten track but fine for a one night stay.
- Alan (9/5): Superb - A B and B full of character. Excellent continental breakfast, cooked was also available. Quiet village well placed for touring the Machars, or Newton Stewart/ Stranraer area.
- Jane (9/5): Superb - Beautiful room, all very clean. Comfortable bed. Huge bathroom. Good breakfast. Host very knowledgeable on local places of interest. Limited parking at back of property otherwise on street parking.
- Michael (8/5): Beautiful quaint and unique place and handy for the ferry. - Excellent hosts. Good breakfast. Warm, clean and comfortable. Bathroom small and tight.
- Garry (10/5): Best B&B I've ever stayed at. - I really enjoyed my stay at the Craiglaw Arms the place was spotlessly clean the landlady allowed me park my motorbike safely at the back of the property ,my room and bed was fantastic the best night's sleep I have had all week, the breakfast was lovely set me up for the day, so no complaints here,I will be going back, full marks. nothing!!!!
- Blair0257 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Austin (10/5): An excellent place to stay. We needed somewhere near the ferry in Cairnryan. - The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, breakfast more than adequate. Good value for money The toilet area was too cramped for someone with a bad knee. That is our only negative comment
- Justin (10/5): The owners kept in regular contact with me, no request was to big or small. Will definitely be going back - Very friendly staff, a very friendly atmosphere
- Brown (7/5): Good -
- Anthony (8/5): Very good - David was a great host :)
- Fiona (6/5): Very pleasant stay and would stay again - Was upgraded to a family room. Tasty breakfast. Lovely welcome. Very nice and chatty staff (owners I think). Nice and close to Cairnryan for the ferry. Unfortunately you could feel the springs in the bed. But actually had a great nights sleep despite this
- Alex (10/5): Fantastic experience - would highly recommend - Wonderfully welcoming, comfortable spot. Great breakfast and wonderful hospitality. Would highly recommend!
- Frank (8/5): great location,quirky premises(in a good way),recommended - the breakfast was excellent,the hosts friendly,the position handy,and the village very friendly,very quiet area,dark sky area,bed comfy,no complaints nothing
- H (8/5): Very good - Lovely people and great accommodation.
Food was excellent.
- Garry (8/5): Very good -
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kate (8/5): Very good -
- Trevor (8/5): Did what I needed it to do - Cosy fire Toilet. Not keen on mulching type. Prefer traditional flush.
- Navjyot (8/5): I would recommend Craighlaw Arms - David and Debbie were very welcoming and the accommodation was warm and comfortable this has nothing to do with the accommodation but the area is very remote (both good and bad) and you will need a car or vehicle to get around. There is no close eating places via foot and you will have to drive to the next town for take away, restaurants or supermarket However, the room was equipped with a microwave and kettle so was able to make something if needed and was offered food by Debbie and David.
- James (8/5): Well located - Property had an interesting history and was well located for our needs. Also a very good breakfast.
- Chrisine (8/5): Very good - We had a decent breakfast, the room was nice with very comfy beds. Very pet friendly.
- Holmes (8/5): Very good - 1700s inn with modern facilities. Quirky and quaint, a refreshing change from norm. Dodgy Tv reception but good internet.
- Samantha (9/5): Superb -
- Colin (10/5): Exceptional - It was very comfortable, beautifully clean. The hosts were lovely, a very cosy unique place to stay.
- Yuan (10/5): Enjoyable and warm! - The room is exactly like the picture, very clean and tidy. The interior decoration is elaborate. When I just came in,my mood was bright.
David was very patient and friendly,I started asking many questions before I arrived,he always responded me very quickly. The breakfast was perfect for my appetite, especially their homemade yogurt!Fresh and healthy! And David could make dinner also, just asking him!My pity was that I didn’t know the first day.The most surprising thing was that he has been my city before, what a coincidence!
I slept very well the two nights, the quilt was warm.
Hopefully I will come back next year!
- Kath (8/5): A lovely stay overall, worth every penny. Suggest that it be listed as "Vintage" not "Boutique". - David was a very welcoming host.
Room a very good size with good facilities, the bathroom was very spacious and there was an actual dressing room/ wardrobe area. Expected just a continental breakfast but a full cooked was offered and accepted. We were also offered an evening meal though we had made arrangements. Parking was on the street outside which wasn't ideal. Dining and lounge areas quite dark.
The brushed cotton bedding which would be welcome later in the year was too warm, but we adapted.
- Robert (3/5): Poor -
- Donald (8/5): Very good -
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional - The rooms were lovely. Our teenagers had a double and single room with a 4-poster bed. It had a beautiful big bathroom. We knew we would be arriving very late from the ferry and the owner(possibly Dave?) confirmed that would be OK. He was very kind and so welcoming. We had a lovely breakfast the next morning before continuing our travels. We would have loved to have stayed longer. We would definitely stay here again. It was a perfect location just 25-30 minutes from the ferry. Nothing. It was lovely.
- Margaret (8/5): The host was friendly, and provided us with a evening meal. - The breakfast was good. The location was good. It suited us, being only twenty three miles from the ferry. The shower-cubical was small.
- Margaret (8/5): Comfortable overnight stay after a friends wedding, would stay again if in the area. - Cooked breakfast was good, had better but had much worse so I'd rate it as fairly good.
Room was very clean & spacious. Bed very comfortable, ensuite was a bit on the neat side but had good shower which is always a winner.
Staff very friendly.
TV was on a fire stick which we've not used before but was good once we'd fathomed out how it worked lol. Nothing to dislike.
- Frank (9/5): Superb -
- Madeline (9/5): Very good - Breakfast was good
- Judi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sylvia (10/5): Unique, relaxed and comfortable stay. - Easy access off the main A 75, parking available outside on the Main Street. Debbie texts the access code and finer details on the day of check in. The boutique accents and decor are charming. The history of the inn display and dates back to 1814. Breakfast (full cooked breakfast) was excellent and included in the price. Such a unique place with a relaxed atmosphere. Nothing is too much trouble and Debbie is available for any questions or information you may have. The passion she has for her inn is evident in the little touches you see around the place. Definitely would recommend and hope to be back for another stay again soon. Nothing.
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Todd (10/5): We had a wonderful stay. - This is a building that was a hotel in 1711. We love staying in old lodgings like this. It is in a quiet little village within a short drive of many attractions. The host, Debbie, was wonderful and spoke of local sites to see. Old properties have their quirks, and Debbie was quick to address things we noticed.
- Arjon (10/5): Highly recommended if you would like to explore Galloway for a couple of days. - A place to feel at home. The owner does a great job making this a comfortable stay. We got carrots in the morning to feed the deer nearby as she knew the kids would love that.
- Elaine (8/5): Very good -
- Moritz (9/5): Lovely small B&B in a beautiful area! - Very big room, quit, comfortable and very nice host.
- John (10/5): Everyone needs a Dave and Debs 😀😀- brilliant hosts - A real little gem of a place - quirky but also homely all in one go
- Tara (9/5): Wonderful stay - Debbie and Dave were fantastic hosts. They truly looked after us during our stay.
- Steven (9/5): Superb - Surprisingly quiet considering on main road lovely room.
Nice people
- James (7/5): Good -
- Paul (10/5): Excellent stay, staff outstanding, super breakfast would highly recommend - Very clean and comfortable Nothing
- Trevor (9/5): Superb -
- Kathleen (8/5): Very good -
- Gerry (8/5): Enjoyable stay would return. - Quirky decor and history of the location.
Owners helpful and friendly. Toilet/showroom A bit tight.
- David (9/5): Welcome and relaxing stay after a long journey - Breakfast great. Evening meal, good. Friendly, would recommend.
- David (10/5): Glad I stayed here and met Debbie and Dave. - Quirky but comfortable room. The character of the place was wonderful. That I had to leave
- Stef (3/5): Very friendly and kind couple but property needs attention - The lovely owners did their best Undistinguished village and property dated . Unfortunately not boutique
- Jacqueline (9/5): Comfortable and looked after - Homely, comfortable, interesting old building, filled with love (many photographs). Dave pandered to my dietary quirks and even baked bread for breakfast. Felt welcomed and looked after.
- Edina (7/5): Nice little b&b - A charming little B&B in a quiet village, you'll have a good night's sleep despite the room facing the road. The room was spacious, well-prepared, and had nice amenities. The hosts are attentive without being overwhelming, and there is a cozy lounge to spend the evening with some drinks. Although the pub in the same building is no longer operating, they still have a license to sell alcohol. The breakfast is decent with good coffee, though another cooked option (e.g. porridge) would have been nice. One negative: the bathroom could be better maintained and cleaned. It looked noticeably more worn than the rest of the room (e.g. mould).
- Fiona (9/5): Peaceful base for exploring a beautiful area. - Location is perfect - only a few miles from the A75 and in a very quiet village. I was a good base for exploring the area. The building is old, and pre-dates ensuite bathrooms, but my room had been two smaller ones opened into one big one to allow for this which gave lots of space, even with a large double and a single bed in it. And the double bed was extremely comfortable. The room had a microwave as well as a kettle, and the breakfasts were excellent. It was also beautifully clean. And the hosts were super helpful. Everything that was there was fine, but a small fridge added would have been really useful. Not a fault, but as the nearest restaurant is 10mins drive away a fridge would be good for stays longer than one night.
- Ed (7/5): Good -
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - The host's were fantastic, Dave couldn't do enough for you. The history off the hotel is all around and well done. Nothing we liked everything about it.
- Daniel (8/5): Very good - Very friendly Hosts. Great Star.
- Alan (9/5): Very happy with our stay - Location was a quiet village very relaxing. All clean and tidy owner made you feel welcome.
